About Car Safety DB
Car Safety DB is a free, independently operated public tool that makes it easy to look up official safety data for vehicles sold in the United States. The site was built to solve a simple problem: NHTSA publishes valuable vehicle safety data, but their website is difficult to navigate. We present the same official data in a cleaner, faster, mobile-friendly format. All data comes directly from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public records - we do not create, modify, or editorialize the data in any way.
What We Provide
- Recalls: Official NHTSA recall campaigns, including the defect description, consequence, and remedy status.
- Owner Complaints: Consumer-submitted reports to NHTSA about vehicle problems. These are unverified reports and may not represent confirmed defects.
- Safety Ratings: NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash test ratings, including overall, frontal, side, and rollover ratings.
What We Are Not
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by NHTSA or any government agency. We are an independent project that republishes publicly available federal data in a more accessible format. For the authoritative source, always visit nhtsa.gov.
Data Freshness
Our database is synchronized with NHTSA's public APIs on a regular basis. Each vehicle page shows a "Last Updated" timestamp indicating when the data was last refreshed. There may be a delay between when NHTSA publishes new data and when it appears on this site.
