The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced; however, the part had been discontinued. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 ACURA RL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN RIGHT AT 20 MPH, SHE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. AS A RESULT, SHE WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM MAY NEED TO BE FLUSHED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY BY ACURA. HOWEVER, ACCORDING AMFAM INSURANCE, WHEN THE DECODED THE VIN, THE RECALL FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER CAME UP FOR THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 108,000.
