DT: THE CONSUMER'S CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALL (04V1233000) WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE, THIS RECALL WAS COMPLETE PRIOR TO THE FIRE. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IT STARTED TO SMOKE HEAVILY AND SMOKE CAME THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONSUMER SAW FIRE IN THE VENTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE CONSUMER PULLED OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THE CAR AND CALL 911. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PRIOR WARNING TO THIS FIRE. INSURANCE COMPANY IS INVESTIGATING AND DO NOT HAVE THE REPORT. *JB COOLANT BOTTLE LEAKED, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT BULB BLEW OUT. *NM
AUDI'S 2.8L V6 ENGINE, FROM THE LATE 1990'S FORWARD TO CURRENT V6 ENGINES HAS THIS PROBLEM. THE CAM ADJUSTERS COMMONLY LEAK OIL, AND THESE LEAKS DRIP OIL ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, WHICH PRESENTS A FIRE HAZARD.*AK
CAR HESITATES WHEN PULLING FROM A STOP. HESITATION APPEARS TO BE TRANSMISSION RELATED. TRANSMISSION IS AUDI/ZF TIPTRONIC AUTOMATIC. HESITATION IS UNPREDICTABLE, AND CAN LAST FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF NEAR MISSES AS I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC AND HAVE HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT TO REVERSE AND GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. AUDI STATES THAT THEIR TRANSMISSION IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. I BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS TO BE A KNOW BEHAVIOR OF THE TIPTRONIC TRANSMISSION AS USED IN AUDI AND SOME VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLES. VW/AUDI NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS GOING ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN SHE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE A PULLED IN FRONT OF VEHICLE B AND STOPPED SHORT, FORCING VEHICLE B TO REAR END VEHICLE A. IN THE PROCESS, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. OWNER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT HIT AT THE RIGHT ANGLE TO ACTIVATE THE AIR BAGS. *AK THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, THE POWER UNIT BENEATH THE FLOOR BOARD WAS SOAKING WET AND HAD SHORTED OUT, THE CONSOLE UNDER THE GEAR SHIFT WAS SO HOT THAT IT COULD NOT BE TOUCHED, THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK. *SC *JB
DT: THE ABS LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. IT STAYS ON MOST OF THE TIME. ALSO, HAD SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS RECALLED ,AND THE UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. THE CONTROL ARMS WORE OUT PREMATURELY. WHEN UPPER CONTROL ARMS FAILED VEHICLE HAD 70000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE LOST CONTROL DUE TO THE UPPER CONTROL ARM FAILURE, AND IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE
I NOTICED THAT MY FUEL GAUGE WAS INCORRECT. I TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A BAD FUEL SENDER UNIT. THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED TO COST $1000. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM BUT TOLD ME THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. HE GAVE ME A PRINTOUT OF THE RECALL NOTICE, WHICH HAD BEEN ISSUED IN 2001. I SPOKE WITH AUDI OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONFIRM WITH THE DEALER THAT THIS RECALL WORK HAD BEEN DONE ON MY CAR. IN THE DATABASE, THE DEALER FOUND THAT MY CAR HAD BEEN CHECKED FOR THIS PROBLEM IN SEPT 2001 (BEFORE I PURCHASED IT) AND IT HAD BEEN DETERMINED THAT NO ACTION WAS NECESSARY. I SPOKE AGAIN WITH AUDI OF AMERICA AND AFTER THEIR REPRESENTATIVE HAD "RESEARCHED" THE ISSUE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CORRECT FUEL SENDING UNIT MUST HAVE BEEN IN MY CAR OR THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT. SO I AM LEFT WITH A NONFUNCTIONING FUEL GAUGE AND NO HELP FROM AUDI ON FIXING THIS SAFETY PROBLEM.
THE FUEL GAUGE WAS DEFECTIVE, IT READ HALF A TANK WHEN IT WAS REALLY EMPTY. CONSUMER RAN OUT OF GAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY THE DEALER. UNDER THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM THE DEFECT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND. *AK *TC
SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2001, I'VE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. WITHIN THE FIRST 4 MONTHS, MY ROTORS WARPED. THEY'VE WARPED TWICE SINCE THAT TIME. ALSO, EVERY 4 MONTHS OR SO, I HAVE TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE BRAKES RESURFACED. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE TO BRAKE AGGRESSIVELY RATHER THAN SLOW TO A STOP. SO, I'VE TRIED THAT. THE BREAKS STILL WARP AND NEED RESURFACING MORE OFTEN THAN THEY SHOULD. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY TWO MECHANICS AT TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SOME, BUT NOT ALL, AUDI A6 2.7 TURBOS AND 4.0'S (8 CYLINDER VERSION). THEY'VE SAID THAT THE TECHNICAL PEOPLE KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM, BUT CORPORATE KEEPS DENYING IT. THE LAST MECHANIC SAID THERE ARE SOME THINGS THEY CAN DO TO TRY TO HELP THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY'RE NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK. NONE OF THE FIXES INCLUDED USING THICKER OR BETTER BRAKES, WHICH EVIDENTLY ARE AVAILABLE AT A HIGH COST! SOME OF THE TWEAKS THEY CAN DO INCLUDE PRECISION BALANCING OF THE TIRES AND MAKING THE SUSPENSION EVEN TIGHTER THAN IT ALREADY IS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH IN A RAIN STORM VEHICLE SWERVED AND LOST CONTROL, CAUSING IT TO CRASH HEAD ON INTO A WALL. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE SIX AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. TWO WEEKS LATER, CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE AIR BAG ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES. *AK
CONSUMER STATED VIA E-MAIL I FUMANI SHISANA WHILE DRIVING ON JUNE 3 2004 HIT A PATCH OF WATER IN THE ROAD. VEHICLE STARTED SLIDING FROM SIDE TO SIDE UNCONTROLLABLY. TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT SLID OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE GRASS ON DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER REMOVED SAFETY BELT AND JUMPED OUT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S DOOR. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. WHILE REACHING INTO THE VEHICLE TO RETRIEVE CELLULAR PHONE CONSUMER NOTICED FLAMES EMERGING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE INDICATOR LIGHT. THEN, VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. CONSUMER NARROWLY ESCAPED WITH HIS LIFE. REPORTED INCIDENT TO THE POLICE AND VOLKSWAGEN AUDI. VOLKSWAGEN AUDI SEEMED TO ACT QUIT SLOWLY ON TAKING ACTION TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. *AK
VEHICLE WAS FULL OF SMOKE WHILE GETTING INTO IT WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY ALL NIGHT. CONSUMER NOTICED BLACK SMOKE FILM ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR WINDOW. ALSO, CONSUMER OPENED THE TRUNK AND FOUND IT FULL OF SMOKE. CONSUMER CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE MARSHALL INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND BELIEVED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN VERY COLD SNOWY WEATHER MY AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHED THEN STAYED ON. THIS OCCURRED 3 TIMES DURING THE WINTER MONTHS AND HAS NOT REOCCURRED DURING WARMER MONTHS. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR THE LIGHT WENT OFF. ACCORDING TO THE DRIVERS MANUAL THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WITH LIGHT ON. ACCORDING TO ODI 756137 WITH SAME SYMPTOMS INDICATES NO AIRBAG WILL FUNCTION EVEN WITH AIRBAG LIGHT OUT AFTER THE INTERMITTENT LIGHT FLASHING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT REPLACE ANYTHING. DEALER TOLD ME UNLESS THERE IS A SOLID FAILURE OR THEY CAN DUPLICATE IT THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN GETTING RUN AROUND. CALLED AUDI CUSTOMER SERVICE (REF# 40192796), BUT HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. *AK
THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO THE AUDI RECALL REFERENCING REPLACEMENT OF TIRES TO MEET AXLE WEIGHT OF VEHICLE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NO #03V143000.TIRES 225/45 R17 91Y WERE TO BE REPLACED BY 225/45 R17 94W. IN NOV 03 TOOK VEHICLE TO THE AUDI PHIL LONG DEALERSHIP IN COLORADO SPRINGS TO MEET COMPLIANCE PER RECALL LETTER. DEALERSHIP TOOK THE PERFORMANCE "ALL SEASON" TIRES OFF THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THREE TIRES WITH 225/45 94W PERFORMANCE "SUMMER" TIRES AND ONE TIRE WITH A 225/45 91Y PERFORMANCE SUMMER TIRE. FIRST BY LOOKING AT THE SPECS OF THE TIRES THEY INSTALLED THEY PARTIALLY MET THE RECALL CRITERIA. SECONDLY, BY CHOOSING TO TAKE THE ORIGINAL PERFORMANCE "ALL SEASON" TIRES OFF THE VEHICLE IN THE PRESENT WINTER SEASON AND REPLACING THEM WITH A PERFORMANCE "SUMMER" TIRE WITHOUT TELLING ME (THE CONSUMER) OF THE TYPE OF TIRES THEY INSTALLED AND SENDING ME ON MY WAY ASSURING ME THAT MY SAFETY CONCERNS WITH THE RECALL HAD BEEN MET, BOTH AUDI USA, AND AUDI PHIL LONG DEALERSHIP CONFIGURED THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE FOR NORMAL OPERATION. THE RECALL CRITERIA WAS NOT MET, ADDITIONALLY BY TAKING AWAY THE ALL SEASON TIRES AND REPLACING THEM WITH SUMMER TIRES IN WINTER SEASON WITHOUT ADVISING THE CONSUMER PRIOR TO RELEASING THE VEHICLE GENERATED A NEW HAZARD. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS CHANGED, VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AS DRIVER WAS ACCUSTOMED PRIOR TO RECALL, AND AS A RESULT DURING ICY ROAD CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE SLID AND SUFFERED DAMAGES. AUDI USA DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY, NOR PHIL LONG DEALERSHIP. THE RECALL ATTEMPTED TO MEET ONE HAZARD, AND BY THE CHOICE OF TIRES CHOSEN AS REPLACEMENT WITHOUT CONSIDERATION OF VEHICLE LOCATION, AND FAILURE TO ADVISE CONSUMER OF REPLACEMENT TIRES SPECIFICATIONS AND LIMITATIONS GENERATED A GREATER HAZARD.*AK
2001 AUDI A6 WITH ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE ENGINE BASICALLY MELTED WITH OUT ANY WARNING. DEALER SAYS THE RADIATOR WAS FINE AND THE WAS NO OIL LEAK. ALL WIRES ARE MELTED ONTO THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE IS RUINED. SUSPECT ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ONLY 2 YEARS OLD BUT OFF WARRANTY. DEALER OFFERS NOTHING AND AUDI OFFERS 4000 TOWARDS A NEW AUDI PURCHASE. A NET 37000 DOLLAR LOSS IN 2 YRS FOR ME. I WAS TOLD WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, IT WOULD EASILY GET 90000 TO 15000 MILES BY EVERY DEALER. THEY ARE COVERING UP AN ELECTRICAL DEFECT OR SEVERLY MISREPRESENTING THEIR PRODUCT. *AK
ACCORDING TO THE VEHICLE TIRE STICKER ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR THE TIRE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 46-PSI PER TIRE. THE DEALER TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MAXIMUM AIR PRESSURE SHOULD BE 44 PSI PER TIRE. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THEY ASKED THE CONSUMER TO IGNORE THE STICKER AND INFLATE 34 PSI AIR PRESSURE PER TIRE. SEEKING NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. *AK *SCC *JB
AUDI 2001 A6 2.7T TIPTRONIC WHILE IN D TRANSMISSION MODE, CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE PER ACCELERATOR INPUT AFTER USING THE BRAKES. THERE IS A DELAY OF ABOUT A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE CAR ACCELERATES. THIS HAPPENS AFTER BRAKING FROM LOW SPEEDS FOLLOWED BY GENTLE ACCELERATION AND ALSO WHEN BRAKING FROM HIGHER SPEEDS FOLLOWED BY EITHER GENTLE OR AGGRESSIVE ACCELERATION. OFTEN THERE WILL BE A PRONOUNCED JERK WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE DELAY. *LA SAFETY ISSUE TYPICAL SITUATION: WHEN CROSSING MEDIANS TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAVE TO BRAKE HEAVILY TO AVOID A COLLISION BECAUSE THE CAR IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE SMARTLY AFTER BRAKING. THE SAME CROSSING IN PREVIOUSLY OWNED AUDI A4 1.8T AND AUDI A4 2.8 (BOTH WITHOUT FLY BY WIRE THROTTLE) COULD BE SAFELY NEGOTIATED WITHOUT ANY ACCELERATION DELAY. ESCALATION TO AUDI HEADQUARTERS ELICITS STATEMENTS SUCH AS "WORKING AS PER DESIGN, "SAFETY FEATURE (PREVENT OVER REVVING DAMAGE TO ENGINE/TRANSMISSION)", AND "SYSTEM HAS TO PROCESS A LOT OF DATA". *LA
I HAVE A 2001 AUDI A6 2.7T AND IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET INTO SEVERE ACCIDENTS WHERE I WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED IN A SIDE IMPACT COLLISION. THE CULPRIT IS THIS: IF YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKE (AS IF YOU WERE STOPPING OR COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP) AND TRY TO REACCELERATE, THERE IS LITTLE TO NO ACCELERATION. THIS "HESITATION" HAS ALMOST GOT ME KILLED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER AUDI A6 CONSUMERS REGARDLESS OF MODEL ENGINE (2.8, 2.7T, 3.0 AND 4.2) THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. THUS, IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR AUDI USA TO SAY THIS IS "NORMAL" AND "INHERENT IN THE OPERATION OF TURBOCHARGERS" AS THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE TOLD ME BEFORE WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING SERVICED. ALTHOUGH I DO UNDERSTAND THAT TURBOCHARGERS CREATE WHAT IS DEEMED AS "TURBO LAG" ON ACCELERATION, I EXPERIENCE MAJOR DELAYS IN ANY ACCELERATION IMMEDIATELY AFTER I HAVE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE (AT ANY SPEED) AND THEN TRY TO REACCELERATE. ALL FOUR ORIGINAL TIRES WERE REPLACED BY THE CONSUMER AT 14,500 MILES. THE TIRE DEALER PROVIDED 50% ON THE SECOND SET OF TIRES AND AT 25,000 MILES, THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. PIRELLI, SIZE# P225/55R17. *AK THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WERE NEARLY WORN WITH HARDLY ENOUGH TREAD REMAINING. (MODEL/ALLROAD) *SCC *JB
THERE APPEARS TO BE A POSSIBLE DESIGN DEFECT THAT I BELIEVE MERITS REPORTING AND POSSIBLE INVESTIGATION. I HAVE 2001 AUDI A6. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE OIL FILTER AT A JIFFY LUBE RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE OIL COOLER WHICH CAUSE ME TO SUFFER A $800 PLUS REPAIR BILL AT THE DEALER. THE DEALER TECHNICIAN ADVISED JIFFY LUBE THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE POTENTIALITY OF PROBLEMS IN REPLACEMENT OF THE OIL FILTER AND AS RESULT HAVE ONE MECHANIC SECURE THE COOLER WITH CHANNEL LOCKS WHILE THE OTHER REMOVES THE OIL FILTER. THERE ARE NO PRESENT WARNINGS FOR SHOPS OF THIS METHOD TO ASSURE NO DAMAGE TO THE OIL COOLER. I PRESENTED A B.A.R. COMPLAINT IN CA. AND TOOK UP A SMALL CLAIMS ACTION FOR RECOVERY, JIFFY LUBE STEPPED UP BUT AUDI REFUSES AND DENIES ANY POSSIBLE DESIGN FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE. AS A CONSUMER I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT SHOULD REQUIRE TWO TECHNICIANS TO REMOVE AND REPLACE AN OIL FILTER.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITH UNCONTROLLABLE SPEED CAUSING VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER AND SKID INTO AN EMBANKMENT. DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY HELICOPTER TO THE HOSPITAL. THERE WERE NO FATALITIES. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *MR THE DRAIN HOLES WERE NOT APART OF THE 20K MILES MAINTENANCE. THE CONSUMER LEARNED THAT THE PLENUM CHAMBER COVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED DURING MAINTENANCE AT WHICH TIME ANY EVIDENCE OF DEBRIS WOULD HAVE BEEN OBVIOUS TO THE TECHNICIAN. THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO WATER DAMAGE UNDER THE COWL, WHICH DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. *SC *JB

MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS EVERY 3000 MILES. SOME FOR MAJOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS REPLACING THE STEERING ASSEMBLY AND OTHER TIMES FOR MULTIPLE REPAIRS OF THE SAME PROBLEMS (ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON). *JB
CAR BURNS OIL 1/2 QUART/1000 MI. ALMOST RUNS OUT BEFORE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. AUDI SAYS THIS IS NORMAL- WE HAVE HAD TWO EMERGENCIES ON THE FREEWAY WHERE WE ALMOST RAN OUT OF OIL. ALSO, IT IS VERY HARD TO READ THE OIL DIP STICK- IT IS ARTFUL NOT USEFUL. ROTORS (ALL) FAILED AT 14K MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WE ARE ADVISED WE ARE NOT ALONE. AUDI CORP ARROGANT AND WILL NOT RESPOND. THROWS EVERYTHING BACK TO DEALER. DEALER FIXED ROTOR PROBLEM AT NO COST. TRIED TO CHARGE FOR OIL TEST REPAIR. BELIEVE THERE ARE DESIGN ISSUES IN BOTH INSTANCES. AUDI HAS LEARNED NOTHING FROM THEIR PAST PROBLEMS- THEY ARE THE MOST ARROGANT BUSINESS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 35 TO 40 MPH, RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS OBSERVED THAT SIDEWALL HAD CRACKED AND SEPARATED FROM TREAD ALONG THE ENTIRE INSIDE CIRCUMFERENCE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED ON THIS CAR. THE FIRST SEPARATION OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 26,000 MILES (COMPLAINT ODI 769362) WHILE THIS ONE OCCURRED AT 36,000 MILES.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP COMPLETELY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED THEM TWICE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK...... THE BRAKE PROBLEM OCCURRED FIRST AT 16,000 MILES, OCCURRED AGAIN BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED, AT 60,000 MILES , AND THEN AT 75,000 MILES. DEALER REFUSED TO GIVE ANY RELIEF, APPEALED TO AUDI HOM EOFFICE, AND THEY TOO REFUSED TO D O ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, REMOVED AND INSTALLED WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES. *AK

CONSUMER REPAIRED THE TIRES DUE TO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THEY WON'T REIMBURSE FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRE BECAUSE THE DAMAGE OCCURRED PRIOR TO 12/16/2002. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS THE DATE GIVEN BY NHTSA. *LA THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIRE RUPTURED WHILE DRIVING AND APPARENTLY THE SIDE OF THE TIRE FAILED AND SUDDEN PRESSURE LOST CAUSED THE WHEEL TO COME IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT, THE TIRE AND THE WHEEL HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB
THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS HIT AT 40 MPH RESULTING IN INJURIES TO THE CONSUMER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *MR *JG *NLM
WHILE DRIVING WITH NO INDICATION HAD NO INDICATION OF OIL LEAKING FROM ENGINE. DEALER NOTIFIED. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AIR BAGS DEPLOYED PREMATURELY. CONSUMER DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE STREET. CONSUMER SUSTAINE D SOME INJURIES TO ARM AND LEFT HAND. *AK
THIS IS THE SECOND A6-4.2 THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR DUMPS ALL POWER FROM SLOW SPEEDS. IMAGINE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE STREET OR ONRAMP AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF. AUDI REPLACED MY FIRST A6 BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NOW ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGERS AT THE DEALERSHIP HAS NUMEROUS OTHER 2000 AND 2001 A6'S AND A8'S WITH THE 4.2 ENGINE THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. IT 'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THERE IS GOING TO BE A HORRENDOUS T-BONE OR REAR-END CRASH WITH THESE CARS. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, AUDI KNEW THAT THESE CARS HAVE THIS PROBLEM WHEN THEY TOOK BACK MY ORIGINAL A6 AND SOLD ME THE SECOND ONE. THE AUDI ZONE MGR ASKED THE SERVICE REP WHY THE HECK THEY SOLD ME ANOTHER ONE. THIS IS A RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE AND RARE CAR BUT THEY CONTINUED TO SELL THEM AFTER KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS FLAW IN THE ECM AND THROTTLE COMBO THAT MORE THAN LIKELY WILL CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. AFTER 5 WEEKS OF PHONE CALLS TO AUDI CUST RELATIONS IN MICHIGAN I HAVE GIVEN UP AND WILL HAVE TO GET LEGAL HELP. I HAVE IMPLORED THEM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUES AND CUST RELATIONS HAS PLAYED RUN-AROUND WITHOUT GIVING ME ANY ANSWERS UP TO THIS POINT TODAY. THE MOST ASTOUNDING POINT TO THIS IS THAT I HAVE PURCHASE 6 OR 7 AUDI'S OVER THE YEARS AND 4 NEW VW'S FOR MY KIDS IN THE PAST 6 YEARS AND THEY ABSOLUTELY DON'T CARE IF I GET HURT OR KILLED IN THIS CAR! THIS MODEL CAR WITH THIS ENGINE WILL KILL SOMEONE IF THEY DON'T DO A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ASAP. I GUESS THEY ARE RELYING ON THE AIRBAGS SAVING THEIR CUSTOMERS
THE ALTERNATOR BRACKET BROKE AT 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH RESULTING LOSS OF VBELT MECHANISM AND POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURRED ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. THE RESULTING STEERING DIFFICULTY ON A CURVED ROAD WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH EVEN AT 30 MILES PER HOUR..*AK
AUTOMOBILE SLOWS UP WHEN GOING UP A HILL, IT SEEM AS IF TURBO IS NOT FUNCTIONING. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS TRANSMISSION OR TURBO HAD A HOLE IN IT. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION IS INOPERATIVE, WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE IN DRIVE IT WILL MOVE 15 - 20 FEET THEN IT WILL STOP FOR ABOUT 4 SECONDS, THEN VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO DEALER, THE VEHICLE IS NOT CONSISTENT IN SELECTING THE STARTING GEAR, SOMETIMES STARTING FAST AT OTHER TIMES, SLOW, THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT VISIBLE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, EVEN WITH SUNSHDES ON, CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE STALLS. *JG *AK

THERE WERE PROBLEMS GETTING THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION. AUDI USED MY CAR TO TRAIN MECHANICS, RATHER THAN REPLACING THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND GET MY CAR BACK TO ME IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE WRONG PARTS WERE ORDERED, WHEN THE RIGHT PARTS WERE ORDERED THEY WERE NOT MACHINED TO PROPER TOLLERANCES. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED MISSING CRUCIAL PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION!
