VEHICLE REACHED A SPEED OF 75MPH STARTED FEELING A VIBRATION, STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE DRIVE SHAFT CAME LOOSE FROM THE TRANSMISSION, DAMAGED FUEL LINE AND E-BRAKE CABLE. VEHICLE WAS MODIFIED IN 2011 AS A STRETCH LIMOUSINE, A MOBILE MACHINE STATED THAT FOUR OF THE SIX BOLTS WERE MISSING AND THE LAST TWO BROKE AND CAUSED THE DRIVE SHAFT TO COME OFF, VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN MINNESOTA AND THE CONVERSION WAS DONE IN ILLINOIS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER 30 DAYS. I FEEL THAT THERE WAS AN OVER LOOK FROM THE BUILDER TO THE LAST OWNER AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION. PLEASE ADVISE
THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ACCUMULATES WATER AND WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 32 DEGREES WATER WILL FREEZE AND CAR WILL NOT OPERATE. TWO GALLONS OF WATER WAS REMOVED FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO RUN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DURING A HEAVY RAIN, MY RADIO STARTED MAKING A STATIC LIKE SOUND, AND DIED, ALONG WITH THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM. THE FOLLOWING DAY I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE VEHICLE, AND HIS FINDINGS WAS A LEAK INTO THE ELECTRONIC PORT THUS CREATING WATER DAMAGE TO AMPLIFIER - MMI SYSTEMS. *TR
ELECTRICAL ISSUE DUE TO THE FAULTY SUNROOF WATER DRAIN HOSES(CONNECTION FOR HOSES). LIKE ALL (ALL) AUDI Q7 OWNERS I HAVE ENCOURAGED PROBLEMS WITH MY COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE CAR. WATER LEAKED FROM SUNROOF DOWN TO MOST ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WHICH ARE HIDDEN BEHIND UPHOLSTERY. AUDI IS FULL OF ELECTRONICS INCLUDING SAFETY SYSTEMS IN THE CAR. MY MMI SYSTEM DIED DUE TO AMPLIFIER GETTING WET. AFTER MMI, BATTERY DRAINED OUT AFTER JUST 7 HOURS THAT CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT. ALL DEALERSHIPS KNOW ABOUT THIS AND AUDI IS STILL RIPPING OFF ALL THE Q7 OWNERS ON THIS ISSUE. TOO BAD IS THAT IN LONG RUN THEY WILL LOSE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS.FULL REPAIR OF SUNROOF HOSES AND REPLACEMENT OF AUDI AMPLIFIER WHICH IS FIRST PART THAT GETS AFFECTED FROM WATER COSTED ME ALMOST $4000. NOT TO MENTION THAT I STILL STAINS FROM WATER ON MY ROOF LINER. I CONTACTED AUDI OF AMERICA AND THEY WILL NOT ADMIT FAULT, WANT ME TO GO TO DEALERSHIP AND PAY AGAIN FOR INSPECTION. YEAH. GOOD LUCK. I WILL NEVER SEE AUDI DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND NEVER BUY ANOTHER AUDI.

SUNROOF LEAKING AFFECTING RADIOS,AMPLIFIER,DRAINING BATTERY. *TR
CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND ESP/ABS LIGHT CAME ON - WAS TOLD BY DEALER WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ABS CONTROL MODULE FOR $2800! TO DIAGNOSE THIS TOOK 2 DAYS FOR THE DEALER AND EVEN THEN THEY ARE NOT 100% SURE THE REPLACEMENT WILL FIX THE ABS ISSUE. HAVE ALREADY PAID 500+ IN LABOR DIAGNOSIS! *TR
DRIVING MY CAR WHEN I HEARD POP AND CAR STALLED. ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SAID OIL PUMP WENT AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. KNOW I HAVE TO REPLACE ENGINE. CAR WAS AT DEALER TWO WEEKS PRIOR AND ISSUE NOT ADDRESSED. *TR
DRAINING SYSTEM IN THE ROOF OF VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN/ENGINEERING FLAW. IN UNDER 4 YEARS, WATER LEAKED INTO THE INTERIOR FRONT AND REAR OF CAR CAUSING ISSUES WITH THE AMPLIFIER AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE. DEALER SAYS IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND ESTIMATES $1600 TO FIX THE DRAIN ISSUES AND $2200 FOR THE BLOWN AMPLIFIER. *TR
AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED COMPLAINTS ABOUT, EVEN WITH CLEANING OUR SUNROOF DRAINS REGULARLY, THE GLUE FAILED CAUSING US TO NOT ONLY ENDURE THE EXPENSE OF A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT NOW WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A STEREO SINCE WE FEEL WE ARE ENTITLED TO AT LEAST THAT MUCH, HOWEVER, AUDI OF AMERICA DISAGREES. CONSIDERING HOW MANY ISSUES THERE HAVE BEEN WITH SUNROOF LEAKS IN THE PAST AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR Q7 OWNERS, I FEEL, AS MANY OTHERS DO I'M SURE, THAT THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER BY THE NHTSA. *TR
FOLLOWING AN EXTERIOR CAR WASH (BRUSHLESS) THE AUDIO SYSTEM AND MMI BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS. THE REAR AUDIO SPEAKERS BEGAN CRACKLING AND THEN STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. CERTAIN MMI CONTROLS, PARTICULARLY WITH THE HEATED SEATS AND FAN BLOWER ALSO STOPPED WORKING. AFTER SOME TIME, THE SPEAKERS RETURNED TO WORKING BUT THE MMI SYSTEM REMAINED SPOTTY. NO BATTERY DRAW WAS FOUND AND NO APPARENT (OBVIOUS) WATER INTRUSION WAS FOUND. *TR
2007 AUDI Q7. ATTORNEY REPRESENTING CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO LOSS OF POWER TO VEHICLE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING . *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS FORCED TO GLIDE TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE REPAIRS WERE ALLEGEDLY MADE. HOWEVER, ON DECEMBER 31, 2012, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 AUDI Q7. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED RAPIDLY AND THEN STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT A CHIP IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 AUDI Q7. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE NAVIGATION AND THE RADIO WENT COMPLETELY OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

PURCHASED FOUR CONTINENTAL CROSS CONTACT TIRES 265/50 R19 FROM ARLINGTON AUTO & TIRE POUGHKEEPSIE NY ON 6/7/2011 FOR MY 2007 AUDI Q7 3.2 WITH THE GUARANTEE OF GETTING APPROX 40000 MILES ON THE TIRES. ON 7/4/2012 WITH ONLY 13000 MILES TIRES COMPLETELY BALD WITH MY WIFE DRIVING AROUND WITH A 4YR OLD AND A 2YR OLD. TIRES ROTATED PROPERLY, EITHER DEFECTED OR ADVERTISED IMPROPERLY. *TR
THE 2007 AUDI WAS HIT ON A HIGH SPEED COLLISION AFTER OTHER VEHICLE RAN A RED LIGHT AND NO AIR BAGS WHERE DEPLOID BY THE AUDI Q7 AFTER MASSIVE FRONT AND SIDE COLLISION FROM OTHER VEHICLE AT 50 MPH . NOT VERY HAPPY OF THE SAFETY PROBLEM THAT THIS LUXURY 2007 AUDI Q7 VEHICLE HAS BY NOT DEPLOYING THE FRONT AND SIDE AIRBAGS CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY TO MY FAMILY DURING THE ACCIDENT. POLICE AND FIRE RESCUE IN THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT WERE VERY CONCERN WITH THE AUDI Q7 FAILURE OF THE SAFETY AIRBAGS AND SUGGESTED TO REPORT IT TO AUDI USA FOR EVALUATION OR POSABLE RECALL. *TT
WHEN RETURNING FROM A TRIP, ABOUT 1 MILE FROM HOME I EXPERIENCED A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WHEN I GOT HOME AND OPENED THE HOOD, GASOLINE WAS SPRAYING FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND INSTANTLY VAPORIZING INTO A CLOUD. I THINK WE WERE VERY LUCKY THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A FIRE THAT COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED ME AND MY FAMILY. I TOOK THE CAR TO A NEARBY GARAGE, AND THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THE ISSUE AND TOLD ME THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. I HAD IT TOWED TO ROGER BEASLEY AUDI, IN AUSTIN. AFTER EXAMINING THE ENGINE THEY CONFIRMED THE LEAK AND DETERMINED IT WAS DUE TO A BROKEN FUEL INJECTOR INSIDE THE ENGINE. I FEEL THIS ISSUE IS A VERY SERIOUS INJURY RISK, AND WILL LIKELY RESULT IN A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY AUDI Q7, IT JERKED AT 20 MPH FOR 3 TO 4 TIMES. TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO CARBON BUILDUP. THEY CLEANED IT, AFTER 3 WEEKS, I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 60 MPH, ITS HUGE JERK CAR STOP AND GO AS IF THERE IS LACK OF FUEL SUPPLY. THE GUY BEHIND ME HONKED AS IF I DID UNEXPECTED BREAKING. THE NEXT DAY I AM DROPPING MY KID AT SCHOOL, THERE WAS STEEP HILL, THE CAR IS DOING SAME I WAS SCARED AS CAR IS PULLING DOWN FROM UPHILL. I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE TO ME AND THE CARS BEHIND ME. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY AUDI Q7 THE 25TH OF AUGUST OF 2010 IN MIAMI, FL WHEN THE BRAKES SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING AND I RAN A COUPLE RED LIGHTS TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN THE MEAN TIME, I TURNED THE DRIVE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL POSITION AND I STARTED PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR SLOWLY. I STOPPED IN A SAFE PLACE AND I CALL AUDI TOW ASSISTANCE, THEY CAME IN ABOUT AN HOUR TO PICK MY VEHICLE UP AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (PRESTIGE IMPORTS). I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICES RENDERED BY THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO INSPECTION AND REPAIRS WHEN IT REACHED THE 60,000 MILES BACK ON APRIL, 2010, AT WHICH TIME I WAS CHARGED FOR THE FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACEMENT (SEE ATTACHED RECEIPT). I AM TERRIFIED ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME IF INSTEAD OF BEING IN A REGULAR STREET I WAS ON A HIGHWAY OR IF THERE WERE CARS WAITING ON THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS. I WANT TO NOTIFY PRESTIGE IMPORTS AND AUDI OF AMERICAS ABOUT MY CONCERNS IN REFERENCE TO THE QUALITY OF THE SERVICES RENDERED AT THIS FACILITY AND THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND I AM CONCERNED WHETHER THE BRAKE PADS REPLACEMENT WAS REALLY DONE AS REQUIRED BY AUDI'S MANUAL. *TR
AUDI Q7 4.2L WITH 34200 MILES LOST RPM ON HIGHWAY, SPEED SUDDENLY DROPPED FROM 62MPH TO 22 MPH, WHEN ESP LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGAGED THE ABS. THE CAR BEHIND COULD BARELY STOP, DISTURBING THE ENTIRE TRAFFIC. FREQUENT PROBLEMS WITH THE ESP (ELECTRONIC STABILIZATION PROGRAM), THE ESP LIGHT WILL COME ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES, MOSTLY ON, ALONG WITH THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP. WHEN ESP LIGHT COMES ON, THE CAR IS JERKING AND IT INVOLVES THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM), ALTHOUGH THE WEATHER/STREETS CONDITIONS ARE VERY GOOD (DRY, PAVED STREETS, SUMMER SUNNY DAYS). TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES, DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD I AM THE FIRST ONE WHO EXPERIENCED THIS KIND OF PROBLEM, AND THAT I AM THE "GUINEA PIG" FOR THEM. IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS CAR REPRESENTS A GREAT POTENTIAL DANGER WHILE IN TRAFFIC. TODAY, I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. HOW ABOUT TOMORROW? DO WE NEED MORE "GUINEA PIGS"? *TR
MY 2007 AUDI Q7 SUV HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES FROM A SPILLED DRINK FROM THE CUP HOLDERS. IF LIQUID TRAVELS DIRECTLY BELOW FROM CUP HOLDERS, THE MMI CIRCUIT BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE HEADLIGHTS, WIPERS, ECT, STOPS WORKING FROM SOMETIME OR NOT AT ALL. IT STARTS WITH THE RADIO AND THEN THE WINDOWS, ECT, AND THEN MOVES TO THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE WIPERS. AUDI SAYS IT IS THE OWNERS' PROBLEM AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE MY HOME'S GARAGE ON MY 2007 AUDI Q7 (3.6L GAS) SUV, I PUT REVERSE GEAR, WITH MY RIGHT FOOT IN THE BRAKE AS USUAL. AT THAT POINT MY 4 YEAR-OLD SON STARTED CRYING AND SPITTING UP A LOT OF SALIVA WITH BUBBLE GUM, SO I TURNED BACK AND TOOK IT WITH MY RIGHT HAND. I DID NOT PUT THE GEAR IN PARK BECAUSE MY RIGHT HAND WAS FULL OF SALIVA (NOW I REALIZE THAT I COULD HAVE DONE IT WITH MY LEFT HAND BUT AT THAT TIME I GUESS IT WAS NOT NATURAL DOING IT THAT WAY), SO I OPENED THE DOOR WITH MY LEFT HAND AND PUT MY LEFT FOOT ON THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO PARTIALLY SLIDE OUTWARDS TO THROW THE SALIVA AWAY (WHICH WAS IN MY RIGHT HAND). AT THIS POINT MY RIGHT FOOT LET GO THE BRAKE JUST A LITTLE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED GOING BACKWARDS. AS MY LEFT FOOT WAS ON THE FLOOR, I TRIPPED AND STARTING FALLING ON THE GARAGE'S FLOOR AS THE CAR WAS MOVING BACKWARDS. AT THIS POINT MY RIGHT FOOT LET GO THE BRAKE COMPLETELY AND THE CAR STARTED GOING BACKWARDS FASTER, AT AN UNREASONABLE FAST RATE! THE FRONT WHEEL ALMOST CRASHED MY BODY AND MY LEFT LEG GOT SEVERAL SCRATCHES AS IT CRASHED AGAINST THE OPEN DOOR RIPPING OFF ALL ITS PLASTIC COVER. WITH MY RIGHT FOOT STILL ON THE CAR'S FLOOR AND MY LEFT HAND GRABBING THE DOOR HANDLE, AND LOT OF ADRENALINE HELPING, I COULD SLIGHTLY SLIDE MY RIGHT FOOT INSIDE ENOUGH TO PUSH THE BRAKE AND MAKE THE CAR STOP. MY POINTS ARE: 1) THE CAR STARTED GOING BACKWARDS VERY FAST BY JUST RELEASING THE BRAKE; CARS SHOULD MOVE SLOWER, AT A LIMITED SPEED, IF THE GAS PEDAL IS NOT PUSHED. 2) THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY FEATURE PREVENTING CARS FROM MOVING (EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARDS) IF (A) THE DOOR IS OPEN, AND/OR (B) IF THERE IS NO DRIVER SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT (LIKE THE ONE IN PASSENGER AIRBAGS THAT ARE INACTIVE WHEN THERE'S NO PASSENGER). I HAVE A SECURITY CAMERA THAT GOT THE ACCIDENT. I CAN PROVIDE THE VIDEO IF YOU REQUEST IT. I HOPE YOU CAN DO SOMETHING TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OF MISFIRING FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND HAS BEEN POINTED OUT TO THE REPAIR SHOP ON MANY OCCASIONS. THE NEXT PROBLEM IS THE TRUCK TAKING VERY LONG TO CRANK OVER WHEN STARTING. THE LAST PROBLEM IS THE VEHICLE HAS WATER INGRESS THAT IS CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN TO BE REPAIRED OVER 10 WEEKS AND PROBLEM STILL IS HAPPENING. THE WARRANTY EVEN EXPIRED WHILE THEY WERE FIXING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BECOME A LOSS INTERMS OF RESALE VALUE AND CANNOT BE TRADED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 AUDI Q7. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF FOUR YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS EACH TIME AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL WAS CAUSING THE SPARK PLUGS TO MISFIRE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED HAVING THE FUEL LINES CLEANED. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2007 AUDI Q7 3.6 AND BELIEVE THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH ALL 2007 3.6 VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE IS ADVERTISED TO HAVE THE TOWING ABILITY TO TOW UP TO 6600LBS. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE TOWING A 435LB ALUMINUM TRAILER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE EPC (ELECTRONIC POWER CONTROL) LIGHT AND THE CAR GOES INTO A SAFE MODE WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO GO OVER 3000RPMS. THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS WHILE TOWING FOR OVER AN HOUR BUT WHEN THE SAFE MODE IS INSTALLED THE CAR HAS NO POWER AND WITH A TRAILER STILL HOOKED UP THE CAR HAS TROUBLE GOING OVER 45MPH. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN TRUCKS ARE PASSING YOU DOING 70MPH. MY Q7 WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I'M STILL NOT SATISFIED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. THEY DOWNLOADED NEW SOFTWARE TO MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WHICH CHANGES THE PERFORMANCE OF MY CAR BUT I BELIEVE ANYONE WHO OWNS THIS SAME VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTS TO TOW WILL FIND THEMSELVES IN THE SAME DANGEROUS SITUATION. MOST PEOPLE DON'T USE THIS TYPE OF CAR TO TOW WITH EVEN THOUGH THEY ADVERTISE THIS AS A SELLING POINT. WHILE DRIVING IN DRY/FAIR WEATHER CONDITIONS AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (50 AND 70 MPH) THE ESP WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGAGED THE ABS SYSTEM FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT CREATED A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE AUDI Q7 4.2 UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE ESP SYSTEM AS I EXITED THE FREEWAY TO STOP AND THEN RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE PASTED 100 MILES AND 3 MONTHS. THE SELLING DEALER FOUND NO CODES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. AFTER LEAVING MY TRUCK AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR A WEEK, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MIRROR MOTOR PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND WAS NOT IN STOCK. WHAT? THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,006.
MY CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW ON AUGUST 31, 2007 AND HAS 20068 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. 1. DURING A THUNDERSTORM, I ENTERED MY CAR AND PLACED MY UMBRELLA ON TO THE PASSENGER SEAT AND GOT INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT. SOME OF THE RAIN WATER DRIPPED OFF THE UMBRELLA AND ONTO THE FACE PLATE OF THE MMI CONTROL UNIT LOCATED ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. WITHIN TWO WEEKS THE MMI CONTROL UNIT SHORTED OUT AND FAILED. THIS FAILURE STOPPED MANY OF THE ELECTRONIC FUNCTIONS THE MMI UNIT OPERATED, IE., THE GPS NAV. SYSTEM, THE RADIO, THE BLUE TOOTH TELEPHONE, THE OPERATING CONTROLS OF THE AUTO, CD, VEHICLE SETTINGS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS (FRONT& BACK) AND ALL THE REST OF THE CONTROLS THE MMI SYSTEM OPERATES. 2. THE FAILURE SEEMED TO BE PERMANENT. I WAS UNABLE TO OPERATE ALL OF THE FUNCTIONS FROM THIS CONTROLLER. 3. I CONTACTED THE AUDI DEALER IN BUFFALO, NY AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A WARRANTY COMPONENT UNDER THE AUTO WARRANTY. I ARRIVED AT THE AUDI DEALER SERVICE DESK AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. WHERE IN THEY ADVISED ME THAT IF THERE WAS ANY MOISTURE FROM WATER, SOFT DRINKS, COFFEE OR TEA SPILLED ONTO THIS CONTROL UNIT, IT WOULD SHORT OUT ELECTRICALLY AND CEASE TO OPERATE. THE SERVICE PERSON STATED THAT THE AUDI LIMITED WARRANTY (4 YEARS OR 50,000 MILES) PAGE #4 OF WARRANTY MANUAL: ITEMS THAT ARE SUBJECT TO ADJUSTMENT, SUCH AS WHEEL ALIGNMENT, TIRE BALANCING, HEADLIGHTS, DOOR, SHIFT LINKAGE, AND SUNROOF ADJUSTMENTS, NOT CAUSED BY OUTSIDE INFLUENCE OR NORMAL WEAR ARE COVERED ONE TIME WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OR 6000 MILES WHICHEVER OCCURRED FIRST, ETC... I EXPLAINED THAT THIS MMI DID NOT NEED AN ADJUSTMENT...IT FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS $800.00 PLUS DOLLARS TO REPLACE THIS UNIT. IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY, I HAD NO CHOICE, I PAID THE AMOUNT. THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE. I TOLD THEM THAT THE CAR MANUFACTURER MADE A DESIGN AND ENGINEERING ERROR IN NOT WATERPROOFING THIS CONTROL UNIT. *TR

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE CONTACT CLOSED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND PROCEEDED TO THE BACK SEAT TO ASSIST THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE VEHICLE. BEFORE APPROACHING THE REAR DOOR, ONE OF THE CHILDREN LOCKED THE DOOR. THERE WAS NO MEANS OF ENTERING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REAR DOORS DID NOT FEATURE AN UNLOCK LATCH MECHANISM. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE DOORS. THE CONTACT WAS HIGHLY CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN ANY OF THE DOORS FROM THE REAR. THE SYSTEM IS LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE CUP HOLDER ON THE ARM REST. THE WOOD TRIM IS INADEQUATE AND DOES NOT SEAL THE COMPUTER MODULE, WHICH ALLOWS LIQUID TO ENTER INTO THE COMPUTER MODULE. AS A RESULT, THE ELECTRICAL DEVICES WILL MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $900 TO REPAIR THE COMPUTER MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,500.

IN AUGUST OF 2006 I SIGNED A THREE YEAR LEASE FOR THE NEW AUDI Q7, 4.2. RIGHT FROM THE START, I ENCOUNTERED A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. ONLY BY REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN APPLYING FULL PRESSURE WILL I START MOVING AGAIN. THIS WAS NOT A LAG NOR A HESITATION, SINCE WITHOUT REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL THE CAR SIMPLY WILL NOT MOVE. DEPENDING ON THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATOR OR ACCELERATOR TO BRAKE SEQUENCE, THE CAR WILL EITHER COME A FULLY UNRESPONSIVE STOP OR FAIL TO SHIFT FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP INITIALLY DENIED THE EXISTENCE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW, AFTER HAVING HAD THE CAR TEST DRIVEN SEVERAL TIMES AND AFTER HAVING BEEN IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF AUDI AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT THE CAR FOR YOU. SHOULD HAVE NOT BOUGHT THIS CAR IF YOU DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET. I HAVE NOT FOUND THIS WARNING IN ANY PUBLICATION. AUDI OF AMERICA'S EXPLANATION WAS THAT THE DRIVE BY WIRE SYSTEM WILL SHUT DOWN THE FUEL SUPPLY WHEN THE BRAKE AND THE GAS PEDAL SENSE JUST THE SLIGHTEST PRESSURE AT THE SAME TIME, CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. AUDI HAS NOT ISSUED A SOFTWARE CORRECTION TO THE PROBLEM. I TEST DROVE THE SAME MODEL Q7 RECENTLY AND IT BEHAVED THE SAME WAY. BY DRIVING THIS CAR, I AM EXPOSING MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS TO VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON AN HOURLY BASIS.COMING TO A STAND STILL IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS A DEATH SENTENCE. EVEN THOUGH AUDI ADMITTEDTO THE PROBLEM AND OFFERED THEIR SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION TO THE SUDDEN FUEL SUPPLY SHUT DOWN, THE REPRESENTATIVES TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED TO MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS. *AK

IN MY PREVIOUS JOB, I EVALUATED VEHICLES FOR AN OEM. WE HAD AN AUDI Q7 SUV IN OUR FLEET. I NOTED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOWS (WITH AN AUTO UP FEATURE) WOULD ALLOW A GAP BETWEEN THE WINDOW GLASS AND FRAME AT A POSITION WHERE A CHILD COULD PLACE THEIR FINGERS. THE AUTO CLOSE FEATURE WOULD NOT RETURN WITHOUT CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF PRESSURE AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGE TO THE CHILD'S (OR ADULTS) FINGERS BEFORE REVERSING. THE ISSUE WAS NOTED WITHOUT INCIDENT. *JB
NOTE - THIS IS A 2007 AUDI Q7, WHICH IS NOT IN NHTSA'S SYSTEM - THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO LIST VOLKSWAGEN. AUDI Q7 REAR SEAT (2ND ROW) HEAD RESTS DO NOT ALLOW CORRECT INSTALLATION OF CHILD SEATS. THE AUDI Q7 HAS FOLDING REAR HEAD RESTS THAT ARE NOT REMOVABLE. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HEAD REST (SPECIFICALLY THE BARS WHICH EXTEND UPWARDS FROM THE SEAT TO HOLD THE ACTUAL HEAD REST) BLOCK CORRECT PLACEMENT OF FORWARD FACING TODDLER SEATS, INCLUDING MODELS TRIED FROM BRITAX AND GRACO. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE Q7 HEAD REST BARS, INSTEAD OF BEING STRAIGHT LIKE MOST CARS, CURVE FORWARD TO HELP THEM FOLD DOWN WHEN YOU LAY THE SEATS FLAT. SINCE THE TOP OF THE CHILD SEAT BACK EXTENDS ABOVE THE CAR SEAT BACK, THESE CURVED BARS BLOCK THE TOP OF THE CHILD SEAT SO YOU CANNOT LAY THE CHILD SEAT FLUSH AGAINST THE SEAT BACK, AND GET A SECURE FIT. BECAUSE THE BARS PUSH THE CHILD SEAT FORWARD, THE BASE OF THE CHILD SEAT EXTENDS PAST THE FRONT OF THE CAR SEAT BENCH. THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTOR WOULD NOT APPROVE THE INSTALLATION, AND COULD NOT FIND ANY ACCEPTABLE INSTALLATION WITH THE CHILD SEATS WE TRIED. *NM *AK
