Front side marker light it'd by canbus system as failed. Still illuminated, but resistance changed. 25 cent led, Audi says headlamp Assy need to be replaced ro $5100. Oh, and other side is about to go too. Design is non-compliant with NHTSA requirements for lighting (very early failures, often at.70k miles), places undo burden on consumers to comply to meet regulations of NHTSA. This consumer asks for recall to reimburse for costs to repair.
Power steering assistance unit stoped working suddenly while driving. Then car was very difficult to steer. Fault could not be reseted, unit was not accessible with service computer in Audi shop. The steering unit was replaced. Just by luck that did not happen while driving at high speed. This could have been resulting in crash with casualties. While browsing the internet for advice it shows multiple incidents with the Audi electric powered steering unit. In the attached pic’s it shows a wet rubber seal and a corroded drive shaft of the replaced part (note the part numbers). Water and oil can find its way into the resolver unit and render it useless, cause lost of feedback signal hence kill the unit. Additional observation: Month before this incident happen, while driving at low speed in warmer/hot environment, a stepper motor feeling was noticeable on the steering wheel. Also a sound can be heared similar to rubber scratches over a dry surface. The disturbance went away when the car cooled down for some hours. It would be advisable to investigate the issue further as the consequences of loss if steering power could be very serious. Wishing everyone a safe travel.
I brought in my car to Audi of Peabody for routine service at approximately 62,000 miles. I was told both rear coil springs were broken. The car, purchased new in July 2017 has been routinely serviced at the dealership. There were no warnings on the vehicle. The dealer said this is a common failure for the Q7 and not covered by warranty or recalls. Checking user message boards of other owners with Audi Q7, apparently this is very common and seems potentially to be a faulty component. I have owned many vehicles for extended periods of time (more than 7 years each) and this is the first car that I'm told is a common failure. Sudden suspension failure appears to be a safety hazard.
Start/Stop system malfunction. The vehicle gave me this warning and the vehicle almost stopped completely in the interstate while doing 65mph. The warning disappeared after couple of times of turning the car back on, but it appeared once again. It looks that their are many complaints and a class act lawsuit on Audi about this problem but no recalls. It's dangerous and really mind blowing that nothing has been done on this issue.
Rear passenger side coil spring broke with no reason during normal driving at about 80,000 mi. Audi said it is aware of issues with coil springs, but since there is no recall, I would have to pay $1997.04. I think it is unacceptable and there is manufacturing defect and they should correct it for free
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated that the passenger’s side front marker light defective message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V642000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting). The contact was informed that the repair would not be covered under warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle remained in the dealer's possession and was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
I am receiving dashboard warning error "Front right side marker light defective" when headlights are in use. The warning occurs when headlights are on and intermittently illuminates with a beep warning sound. It can happen every few seconds or every few minutes. It is very annoying. This problem started when the car was around 82,000 miles. The same thing happened on the OTHER side of the car around 72,000 miles, with the "Front LEFT side marker light defective" warning appearing. At that time the car was still under extended warranty (which expired at 80,000 miles) and the Audi dealer diagnosed the LEFT side problem as a "defective headlight assembly." The dealer replaced the headlight assembly at a cost of $3655 which was covered by the extended warranty. Now, with the extended warranty elapsed, the problem is happening on the RIGHT side. Online research shows very high numbers of 2017 Audi Q7 owners complaining about this issue. Audi recall 97CB (NHTSA 16V642000) exists for this issue but Audi only applied it to some 2017 model year VINs. My 2017 Q7 VIN is not included. It should be. Clearly this issue is rampant in this model+year combination, and owners should not have to spend thousands of dollars for it to be repaired.
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated that upon a quick acceleration, the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal as an unknown warning light would appear on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the warning light would disappear upon restart of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the air bag warning light had also appeared on the instrument panel. In addition, the contact stated that the third-row seats would fail to adjust as needed. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V035000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), 16V955000 (Air Bags), and 16V641000 (Seats) which the contact linked to failures. The dealer was initially notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and informed that contact that each of the recalls that were referred to was already serviced prior to the recent failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
SUMMARY Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2019 Audi Q8 and 2017-2019 Audi Q7 vehicles. The bolt connecting the steering shaft to the steering gear may loosen, possibly resulting in a loss of steering control. CONSEQUENCES A sudden loss of loss of steering control may increase the risk of a crash. REMEDY Volkswagen will notify owners, and Audi dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering shaft bolt, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2020. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 36A1. Apparently my vin is not covered but others are. My car is telling me that this is the issue. Why are others covered and mine is not?
On the evening of 8/12/2023, my vehicle (2017 Audi Q7) began producing a vibrating noise while driving and a clunking noise while turning. The next day (08/13/2023), after halting at a traffic light and accelerating when the light turned green, a loud pop was heard from the rear of the vehicle. And the vehicle was unable to move forward or backward while the engine was running. The vehicle has been towed to the Audi dealer in Chantilly, Virginia. Upon multi point inspection, the service team found that the drive shaft got separated from the rear differential flange. All bolts connecting drive shaft found sheared off in rear differential flange. Initially the service team tried to extract broken bolts and replace bolts and gasket to reconnect drive-shaft. But after couple of days, they were unable to extract broken bolts. So the current recommendation is to replace rear differential pinion yoke, re-install driveshaft and rear exhaust section and re-evaluate operating condition. All six driveshaft bolts for connection to rear differential found broken off in pinion yoke. Unable to drill-out remaining material from broken bolts out of rear differential pinion yoke. The service person thinks parking brake may have got engaged when the acceleration pedal was pressed causing the bolts to break. But, in my opinion, that is not the reason. I am certain that the parking brake was not ON at the traffic light. I would like to find the root cause why the drive shaft was separated from the rear flange. I am a bit nervous it may happen again and also want to help other Q7 owners if this a recall issue. In the following link the Audi service person posted a video that shows the separation of the drive shaft from the rear flange. I do not know how long the video will be accessible. Please watch the video as soon as possible. [XXX] I have also recorded the video on my phone (screen recording). I will send some pictures as well. thank you. "front right" "side marker light defective. Headlights work fine, just the error message that come up at night.
AUDI 2017 Q7 PREMIUM PLUS: July 25, 2023 - Got a notification "Front right side marker light defective." The car had just passed the 50k manufacturer's warranty. The current mileage at the time was 51,426. Contacted dealership for assistance and they informed there was a recall on this issue but unfortunately my VIN did not qualify for it, also that the vehicle was no longer under the manufacturer's warranty. I then emailed Audi customer support explaining my concern and how I felt this was a safety issue that should be the manufacture's responsibility to repair. I received a call back from them and pretty much what they said was, "we apologize for the inconvenience but unfortunately your VIN does not apply to the recall and the vehicle is no longer under warranty." I got the same response as the dealership. I've taken my car to two different shops and the cost varies from 5k-6k. This is insane for a car that was barely over 50k miles. I've never experienced any other problems with my car in the 4 years I've owned it. This was the very first time. I maintain my car very well and it is always up to date with the maintenance services. This is a safety issue that can affect my safety and others as the purpose of these lights are to inform other drivers about my vehicle when observed from the side. Especially at night. After several attempts with the dealership and no luck I gave up. I found a European Auto Shop to look into this and they are now working with my extended warranty in hopes they can get this fixed for the safety of others and myself. I strongly feel Audi should have made this recall apply to all their 2017 vehicles experiencing this problem. Thank you.
Took 2017 Q7 to dealer to check brakes. Dealer found both rear coil springs broken. Will cost $2k to replace. Searching internet I find many examples of this same safety related failure. The VW ATLAS with the same frame does have a recall for this issue. Why is the Audi not included. I have the inspection video and will attempt to add here: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car caught fire and burnt to to the frame. The message that came on the dash board before it caught fire was camera. I told Audi and they disregard all of that. They told me they were going to check or do investigation and the only thing I was told after looking for answer was this! These people know my insurance was state minimum so everyone put aside our safety concerned… Thank you for your continued patience while allowing Volkswagen Group of America the opportunity to review the subject Audi Q7 bearing the Vehicle Identification Number, [XXX] . When driving into a dimly lit area the car rings and displays the message front left side marker defective. The warning stays on for some time and then goes away before returning again. This continued for a few weeks. The car then experienced a full electrical system malfunction, doors unlocking and locking randomly while driving before dinging repeatedly with multiple warnings displayed in the dash and then stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle would not shift into park. Multiple warnings continued to ding and flash in the dash. After being turned off for 20 minutes the car was able to be started shifted into Drive and driven with no warnings displayed. The car was taken to the dealership for diagnostics which were performed, but with no electrical system malfunction displayed. The left side marker warning was still on, but the dealer said there was no fix for this. The following month the car was taken for 60,000 mile service. At this time the dealer advised the fix for left side market was replacing the entire headlamp fixture. The service was declined. When the vehicle left the dealer the cruise control was on and would not turn off. After turning off the car and turning it back on the cruise control was off. After driving a short distance the speed control warning dinged and displayed and the cruise control was back on. The orange engine light was also displayed although there was no written warning for this.
When putting the car in park, the car shot forward instead and when I tried to put it in reverse the car shot backward and I was unable to stop it.
there is side marker lights issue. it happened 1 one year ago. it was right side. few months later , left side had same problem. I checked up audi q9 with same problem. I found that old model has same issue with recall. I searched audi owner web site, and saw there were so many owner had same problem. however, audi did not declare 2017 Q7.
On my way to drop my child off at school, I stopped to refuel my Audi Q7. Upon inserting the nozzle to refuel the car, gasoline immediately began jetting out of the fuel door before the auto-shutoff kicked in, covering myself as well as my vehicle. Thankfully, the hot exhaust did not ignite the liquid or fuel vapor potentially causing a deadly fire. Despite having no fuel remaining, I was able to take the vehicle to our local mechanic where they discovered a TSB denoting this specific issue. The TSB was initially released 04/28/2016 for Model Year 2017 Audi Q7s. It was subsequently updated to include Model Year 2018 Q7s as well. This is a documented factory safety defect that denotes if this issue is to occur, to replace the whole fuel tank. Further research shows that a valve inside the non-wear, non-serviceable fuel filler neck can become dislodged and nearly completely block the filler neck from accepting fuel. This can cause a potential safety issue as the result of this blockage, the vehicle as well as driver can become doused in gasoline before a pump's auto-shutoff can kick in due to the shallow depth of the fault. The problem is known and documented as being an issue nearly immediately after the Model Year 2017 Q7 line was released. There was no prior warning or indication that this could occur at any time filling the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH at night, she was informed by another driver that the turn signals and the running lights were inoperable. The contact stated the "Auto Adaptive Light” malfunction warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the headlight module needed to be replaced due to corrosion. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V642000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Car issued an alert for Low Coolant, I checked next morning only to find that the coolant tank was empty. This warning could have alerted long back when the level fell below "Min" marker. Owners cannot notice this leak because the coolant doesn't drip on the floor. Took it to an independent service center who alerted me about this issue. I researched and noticed that there's been a lot of complaints on forums for 2017 Audi Q7 3.0 for coolant leak cause by the water pump, which always needs replacement. The replacement costs by AUDI are upwards of US $1300. This issue seems like a regular pattern and can cause an engine failure. AUDI should take responsibility and fix these cars.
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated that at the initial start-up, there was a warning message flashing on the instrument panel that the “Front Driver’s side marker light was defective”. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
2017 Audi Q7. Both rear coil springs are broken. The car is garage kept with 45000 miles.
I have a 2017 Q7 with the "front Left side marker light defective" warning. However I saw that there was a limited recall 97CB or 16V6420000 for this issue with 2017 Audi Q7 vehicles, but it's VIN specific and my VIN isn't included. Looks like the issue is much more widespread than the Vins they included for the recall as I saw online that lot of people have the same issue in this model. Please help!
I have been seeing a warning message which states “Front left side marker light is defective” even though the light seems to be working. There is an open recall for my Audi Q7 model but somehow my VIN is not part of the recall. Audi recall: 97CB Campaign: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I got a message said that the front leftside marker light defective see owner's manual. I did research online and found that many vehicles just pass the warranty then have the same issue. Please help review this case
Headlight side marker bulb out. A malfunctioning side marker light not only compromises the visibility of your vehicle to other drivers, especially in low-light conditions, but also heightens the risk of accidents, particularly during lane changes or turns.
The fuel tank has a broken flap in the filler neck. Per the NHTSA ID # below, this issue is a known issue. My vehicle is experiencing this issue and will not allow me to put fuel into my car. I am unclear why the NHTSA feels that this is just a technical bulletin rather than a recall. Why should the consumer be subject to replacing a faulting known design by the manufacturer, Audi, in this case. I am now going to have to pay an extract few thousand to have this issue resolved. This is completely unfair to the consumer. NHTSA ID Number: 10150656 Manufacturer Communication Number: A201804 2044039-
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the side marker light malfunction message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V642000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 74,000.
Drivers front side marker LED light warning.
Engine coolant leak due requiring a water pump and thermostat replacement. Vehicle has 53,621 miles.
During a state inspection, the technician discovered that the water pump was damaged and was leaking coolant onto the engine. The coolant overflow was below minimum, but no low coolant lights appeared on the dash. The repair cost me $1200 out of pocket, and no assistance was offered as the vehicle is just out of warranty. This issue is commonly documented as highly prevalent in the 2017 Q7, among other models--poor design of the pump is resulting in premature failures. There was a class action law suit against other Audi models that is providing relief to consumers and extending warranty for this issue. With the number of failures being reported, please extend this support to Audi Q7!
Vehicle was parked and went out to start it and coolent was all over ground under car. Water Pump blew on Audi with only 25,000 miles on it. Currently a class action on the Q7 3T stating the water pumps keep going out on new vehicles or vehicles with low mileage. Now the malfunction light will not go out and repair shop said its an emissions issue.
Hello. Campaign Number 16V642000 needs to be expanded to include the full range of VINs manufactured for all the 2017 Audi Q7 model year(s). This vehicle reports a side marker light malfunction, but the VIN is not included in the Audi recall. There are numerous complaints on the NHTSA website itself, and even more across various Internet forums to warrant NHTSA investigation. The continued delay by NHTSA not to investigate the need to expand the range of VINs covered under this recall, allows a safety issue to continue to go uncorrected by the manufacturer and therefore unnecessarily and negligently increases the risk of crash for countless motorists.
I am reporting a serious issue with the 2017 Audi Q7 involving excessive oil consumption. The vehicle burns 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles or less, requiring me to constantly add oil between regular oil changes to avoid engine damage. This is not normal and poses a serious safety risk if the engine runs dry during operation. Audi denied my buyback request without inspecting the vehicle or reviewing service records. Instead, their solution has been to provide free oil top-offs, which proves they are aware of the problem but are avoiding a permanent fix or recall. Other Audi Q7 owners, even with newer models and low mileage, report the same defect. This is a manufacturing defect that makes the vehicle unreliable and unsafe for normal driving. This can cause the vehicle to stall or stop suddenly while driving, especially at high speeds or in traffic. That’s a major safety risk. If the oil burns too quickly, the warning may come too late. The need to constantly monitor and add oil makes the car unreliable for everyday use. Regular oil changes are meant to keep the car safe and working smoothly. But if oil is burning quickly between changes, the car can’t be safely operated on a normal maintenance schedule, which defeats the purpose of service intervals and puts extra responsibility and risk on the driver. Audi’s refusal to issue a recall or perform proper repairs is deceptive and dangerous. I request NHTSA to investigate this issue and determine whether a recall is necessary for this known defect. It also breaches Implied Warranty of Merchantability (UCC § 2-314)
Hi Hope this message finds you well. I am getting "Front right side marker light Defective, see owners Manual" with light bulb signal and I found a recall document "Safety Recall Code: 97CB" on NHTSA.gov which applies to my 2017 Audi Q7depite my marker light is working fine .. I called dealer and they say there are no recalls on my VIN. This is known issue, has many forums has discussion threads. Please help me on How I can get issue fixed by Audi Service team. Regards Siva
Water pump failure. A very well known issue with this particular part and the same exact vehicle as mine, also with lots of other Audi models.
Both rear coil springs were found rusted and broken by Audi dealer and need to be replaced. Car shouldn't be driven since both broken coil springs are just resting on the lower control arms. Quoted $2,171.05 before tax and shop fees.
The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the warning message pretensioner malfunction and contact the dealer was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic stated that the front driver’s side seat belt pretensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage 32,000.
I was driving down a well paved road obeying the speed limit of 35MPH when a loud bang startled me. There was nothing in the road, and I checked my rear view mirror to confirm and there was nothing in the road. The car started handling a little differently. I brought it to the dealership and they told me both rear springs had broken. The vehicle only had about 70K miles on it. It could have severely affected the car's driving and could have put driver, passenger or other cars in jeopardy. There were no warnings at all.
We purchased a 2017 Q7 with low milage. At around 75k miles the engine started consuming oil every 1,200 miles, when previously it never required an oil change before the regularly scheduled service. The dealer always said "that is 'in spec'". This went on for over a year. Then, when we were driving cross-country for thanksgiving in 2022, the engine made a major concussive noise and we lost power while driving on the freeway at around 70mph. This almost caused a high speed collision. It was winter and we had the entire family in the car. we took it to the dealership, and the service tech recommended a compression test and borescope. No carbon build-up was found. Pressure was 'ok' in all cylinders. There were codes showing a fuel injector misfire, so the dealer recommended replacing all of them. The repair was done, but we've continued to have excessive oil consumption, the engine continues to run rough, and we occasionally get 'drive system malfunction' errors. When driving cross country in sub-freezing winter weather, last week, the engine lost power again. I stopped at the nearest Audi service center two hours later, and the tech found that the spark plugs had significant carbon fouling. Spark plugs were replaced. Engine continues to consume too much oil. Based on my research, it appears that this is a known issue, with several class action lawsuits. The Q7 does not appear to be part of these suits (yet), but there are posts and forums all over the internet with owners reporting this problem.
Front left side marker defective
Dash display is showing "Right Front Marker light malfunction" message even though the marker light is fully functional and operational. Message only appears when headlights are ON. Vehicle will NOT pass Massachusetts inspection with warning light ON, EVEN though light is fully functional. Audi service code is C11A615. Audi service center is quoting a $5300 repair cost.
My vin was not included in. The Fix Side Marker Light Software Glitch. Safety Recall Code: 97CB. There’s a lot of vehicles same model and year like mine with This safety issue. Audi refuses to fix it because my vin it’s not included in this fix. They will replace my whole lights for $9,500.00 this is insane. I will like to drive a safe car without having to pay for something that it’s actually a defect. We yo too much for this cars and for them to be not held responsible. I don’t feel safe driving my car but I can’t afford $9,500 in repairs. We can’t even fix it ourselves if we wanted to because it’s not repairable it needs a new unit. I would like my vin to be included in this safety recall.
Abnormally early water pump failure. This is a known Audi-wide issue with other recalls on different engines. A substandard OEM water pump is used from the factory
The front marker LED light bulbs in the headlight housing is gradually turning yellow. The LED light bulbs can't be replaced. They were originally white and now they are turning yellow. It is my understanding that only the side markers should be yellow. The front markers being yellow may be mistaken for the side markers and there distorting the width of the vehicle.
The water pump was leaking while I was on the highway and smoke came out from the engine blocking my view. Had to make an emergency maneuver and pull over immediately.
This issue appears to fall under recall 97CB for a Side Marker Light Violation on select Audi vehicles. I own a 2017 Audi Q7 and have been receiving an error that the "front right side marker light is defective". Audi service has stated that the issue is with an individual LED diode so the entire headlight unit must be replaced to the tune of $4,400.00. Since my VIN is not included in recall 97CB, they will not replace it. My vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle and had approximately 63,000 miles when the defect occurred. I am respectfully requesting to expand the pool of VIN numbers included in this recall as it appears to not be localized to the VINs previously identified.
