THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED TO WHAT I HAVE READ TO BE DUE TO A CRACK IN THE DETECTION MAT. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO REPAIR SHOPS AND ALL HAVE CONFIRMED THE SAME ISSUE. IN THE CASE THAT THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WILL BE DEPLOYED, OR AIRBAGS MAY BE DEPLOYED WITHOUT REASON. I HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS. I HAVE MADE TWO PHONE CALLS TO BMW WITH MY CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. BMW STATES THAT CURRENTLY MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER IS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALLS, BUT MAY BE IN THE FUTURE. MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS BEING REPORTED AS THE PREVIOUS TWO RECALLS, BUT SINCE IT WAS MANUFACTURED "JUST BEFORE THE INDICATED RECALL DATES" THAT I WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED. IF BMW CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS' SAFETY, I WOULD NOT THINK WAITING BY THE MAILBOX FOR A LETTER THAT MAY OR MAY NOT ARRIVE TO INFORM ME OF ANOTHER LETTER IN MARCH, IS AT ALL SUFFICIENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN A PASSENGER WAS OCCUPYING THE SEAT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,183 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,400.
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2006 BMW 330XI AND THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LAMPS HAVE BEEN ON/OFF ON MY CAR SINCE LAST NOVEMBER. SINCE THIS CAR MODEL HAS A RECALL RELATING TO AIRBAG AND SEATBELT, I AM WONDERING WHY I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY "RECALL LETTER" SO I CAN PRESENT IT TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP IN ORDER TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG SENSOR INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED A POSSIBLE FAILURE WITH THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE LOCAL DEALER (HOFFMAN BMW IN WATERTOWN, CT) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
MY LIGHTS COMES ON FOR AIRBAG PASSENGER SEAT. I SAW THAT NHTSA HAS CAMPAIGN # 08V-384 FOR THIS MATTER. IF THE DEALER REFUSE TO HONOR IT, HOW I PROCEED AFTER THAT. THE AIR BAGS DON'T WORKS WITH THAT LIGHT ON. I HAVE MY DAUGHTER WITH ME ALL THE TIME,TO AND FROM THE SCHOOL. THANKS. *TR
I WAS PARKING AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. USUALLY I JUST NEED TO PULL THE HANDLE TWICE AND IT OPENS BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I TRIED THE ELECTRIC REMOTE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND IT DID NOT AFFECT THE LOCKS. I TRIED THE PASSENGER DOOR AND IT DID NOT OPEN EITHER. I HAD TO EXIT THE CAR FROM THE BACK DOORS. I DETERMINED A FUSE WAS BLOWN AND REPLACED THE 15A FUSE WITH A 20A FUSE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE BMW FORUM AND IT NOW WORKS FINE. THE CONCERN IS IF I HAD TO EXIT THE CAR FROM THE FRONT DOORS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED. *TR
WHEN A PERSON SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE DASHBOARD AIR BAG LIGHT LIGHTS UP. ALSO THE CEILING MOUNTED WARNING LIGHT LIGHTS UP, STATING, "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF." MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT, IF THE VEHICLE WOULD BE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION AND HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT, THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
FAULT LIGHT FOR AIR BAG & SEATBELT ON DASH LGHTED, HAD SCAN DONE IT SHOWS A FAULTY PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THE AIR BAG FOR THE PASSENGER IS NOT WORKING. *TR
BATTERY WAS LOW AND WOULDN'T START JUMP STARTED THE CAR AND RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINT TENSIONER IS BAD. HAS A SEAT BELT WITH AIRBAG SYMBOL ON THE DASH...PLUS THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING A SYMBOL WITH A STEERING WHEEL WITH ARROWS THEN THE CAR WON'T START UNTIL I SHAKE THE STEERING WHEEL SEVERAL TIMES...WAS STRANDED FOR HOURS THEN FINALLY IT STARTED. BMW HAS VERY LOW QUALITY AND PROBLEMS. THIS IS BECOMING VERY UNSAFE AND NOT SURE IF I WANT MY FAMILY IN THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR
THE REAR DOOR LOCK IS NOT WORKING - THE HANDLES DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE - THE LOCK ACTUATOR IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. SO FAR I HAVE HAD THE FRONT DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE ACTUATORS REPLACED. BMW WILL NOT FIX THE ACTUATORS EVEN THOUGH THE PART HAS BEEN CHANGED OUT BEFORE, IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND THE ACTUATORS HAVE BEEN SUPERSEDED TWO TIMES BY BMW. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED IN MARCH. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS EXPERIENCING THE DEFECT LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
ONE OF MY VALVE COVER BOLTS BROKE CAUSING THE OIL TO LEAK EVERYWHERE. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING SHOWED UP. TOOK TO THE SHOP THEY CHARGED ME $1200 TO REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT. I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED BY BMW TO FIX THIS IN 2006 3 SERIES. I WANT TO GET MY REFUND FOR THE REPAIRS WHICH I HAVE ALREADY GOT DONE. *TR
WHITE SMOKE COMING THOUGH AC DUCTS. WHEN TAKEN TO SHOP THEY SAID IT WAS COOLANT LEAK IN HEATER CORE. REPLACEMENT WOULD COST ME $3000-$4000. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR MAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
AFTER PUSHING THE START BUTTON I GET THIS MESSAGE (NOT AN ERROR, A MESSAGE): "ELECTRIC STEERING WHEEL LOCK MAY PREVENT ENGINE STARTING. MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL SO THAT ENGINE CAN BE STARTED." SO THE WHEEL LOCKS ITSELF ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAVE TO TOW THE CAR FOR NO REASON. NOW DEALER IS SUGGESTING TO CHANGING A PART AND SOME OTHER DEALER SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE REPROGRAMMED. UNBELIEVABLE. BMW DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE REASON OF THIS ISSUE.. *TR
RECEIVED YELLOW STEERING WHEEL AND LOCK ICON WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. ATTEMPTED USING DIFFERENT KEYS, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE STEERING WHEEL REMAINED IMMOBILE. I EXITED THE CAR AND WAITED ABOUT 30 MINUTES TO TRY AGAIN, BUT RECEIVED YELLOW STEERING WHEEL WITH LOCK ICON AGAIN WHEN PUTTING THE KEY FOB INTO THE VEHICLE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS QUOTED ABOUT $1200 AS SOON AS I DESCRIBED THE YELLOW STEERING WHEEL AND LOCK, WITHOUT THEM HAVING SEEN THE VEHICLE. THE SA ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE NEWER MODELS DON'T EVEN HAVE THIS FEATURE AT ALL. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT IT IS NOT A BMW RESPONSIBILITY OR DEFECT, AND THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SHOP REPAIRS AND TIME. DOING RESEARCH ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I FOUND THIS IS A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED AND KNOWN ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE DUE TO POOR DESIGN BY THE AUTO MANUFACTURER, SO MUCH SO THAT THE "FEATURE" ISN'T EVEN INCLUDED ON NEWER MODELS OF THE VEHICLE AT ALL. *TR
THE PASSENGER SEAT PAD IS DEFECTIVE IN MY 2006 BMW 325I. IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AS DEFECTIVE. IN DECEMBER OF 2013 BMW RECALLED 76K OF THESE PADS FOR MY MAKE/MODEL/YEAR, BUT EXCLUDED MY VIN AS A RESULT OF A NHTSA INVESTIGATION. I AM REQUESTING AN EXPLANATION OF HOW BMW WAS ALLOWED TO EXCLUDE MY VIN WHEN THE RECALL IS OBVIOUSLY MORE WIDESPREAD. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT THAT DETERMINES IF AND HOW THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG SHOULD DEPLOY IN A CRASH MAY FATIGUE AND DEVELOP CRACKS WHICH COULD LEAD TO A SYSTEM FAILURE. CONSEQUENCE: SHOULD THE SYSTEM FAIL, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WOULD BE DEACTIVATED, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. REMEDY: BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS WITH AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION LETTER IN JANUARY 2014 SINCE PARTS ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, ANTICIPATED TO BE IN MARCH 2014, BMW WILL SEND A SECOND LETTER AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT TO ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY THAT IT MAY CRACK, FREE OF CHARGE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE MAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG MALFUNCTION AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
BROKEN CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS AT THE FRONT TIMING COVER. SYMPTOM WAS OIL LEAK AT TIMING COVER. UPON INSPECTION, THE HEADS OF 4 BOLTS HAD SHEARED OFF AND 3 BOLT HEADS HAD DROPPED THROUGH THE TIMING CHAIN HOUSING AND ENDED UP IN THE OIL PAN. *TR FIRST, HEAD BOLTS SHOULD NOT FAIL. SECOND, THE SHEARED BOLT HEADS PASS THROUGH THE TIMING CHAIN HOUSING AND COULD INTERFERE WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND CAUSE IMMEDIATE ENGINE FAILURE.
MALFUNCTION OF INTEGRAL LOCK SENSOR IN STEERING COLUMN NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AT COST OF $1300. THIS IS THE SECOND REPLACEMENT IN THIS VEHICLE, THE FIRST FAILED AT 80,000 MILES. SAME ISSUE WITH 2006 325I MODEL AT 90,000 MILES. UNDERSTAND THAT ELECTRONIC SENSORS WILL ALWAYS WEAR OUT AND FAIL BUT THIS IS DEFECTIVE ENGINEERING. THE SENSOR SHOULD BE A SEPARATE PART ANTICIPATING THE NEED TO REPLACE IT FROM TIME TO TIME. WOULD EXPECT MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND MORE CONSIDERATION FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER FROM GERMAN ENGINEERING. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 BMW 325I THE VEHICLE IS LEAKING FUEL AND FROM WHAT I THINK IT IS THE BREATHER PIPE. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS WILL GENERATE A SERIOUS PROBLEM LIKE EXPLODING OR ANY TYPE OF FIRE PROBLEM. THERE IS A PUDDLE OF FUEL EVERY TIME I PARK MY CAR. THE FUEL LEAK IS ON THE LEFT REAR SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL IS ASCENDING. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A DESIGN FLAW,AND EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD AND MUST COVER THIS SAFETY CONCERN BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ERROR CONSISTENT WITH FRONT PASSENGER SEAT PRESSURE MAT RECALL NOTICE. BMW ONLINE RECALL CHECK REVEALED THAT THIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JS
BEGINNING SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, THE VEHICLE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND SEATBELT WARNING INDICATORS BEGAN TO DISPLAY ERRATICALLY. THEY WOULD GO ON AND OFF AT DIFFERING INTERVALS. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO THE INDICATORS BOTH CAME ON AND HAVE REMAINED ON. DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, I LOCATED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2008 FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE WHICH INCLUDED MY 2006 325I AND THAT BMW HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS. THE SEAT MAT WIRING WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY WHICH CAUSE THE VEHICLE SENSOR TO ENGAGE THE WARNING/INDICATOR AS IT COULD NOT DETERMINE IF A PASSENGER WAS IN THE SEAT OR NOT AND THEREFORE THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I CONFIRMED MY VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME RECALL ISSUE FROM 2008 WITH A LOCAL BMW SHOP AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT BMW OF NORTHAMERICA. I CONTACTED BMW OF NORTHAMERICA AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER. ??? THIS IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. WHY WOULD MY QUALIFYING VEHICLE NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND RECALL ISSUE AS THE RECALL? WHY WOULD MY VIN BE EXCLUDED? *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE LEFT LANE, TRYING TO PASS A CAR IN THE MIDDLE LANE. AFTER GETTING IN FRONT OF THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE LANE, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE SO I COULD RE-ENTER THE MIDDLE LANE, BUT THE CAR ACTED AS IF IT SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE GROWLED AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. IT KEPT DRIVING, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, DESPITE ME STEPPING HARDER ON THE GAS. THIS WAS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AS THERE WAS A CAR IMMEDIATELY BEHIND ME, WHICH COULD HAVE REAR ENDED ME AT OVER 60MPH, AND THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE LANE THAT I WAS TRYING TO PASS COULD HAVE ALSO HIT ME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR. FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. INVESTIGATION REVEALED A FAILED PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT AS THE CAUSE. FAILURE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE FAILURES HIGHLIGHTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN 08V384000. BMW NORTH AMERICA POSITION IS THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE (VIN) IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS IS VERY TROUBLING. THERE IS A KNOWN FAILURE SERIOUS ENOUGH TO WARRANT A SAFETY RECALL, HOWEVER THE RECALL IS LIMITED TO A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THE ACTUAL VEHICLES THAT WILL EXPERIENCE THIS FAILURE. RESEARCH ON THIS SITE (AND OTHERS) CONFIRMS THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM AFFECTING SEVERAL MODELS AND MODEL YEARS OF BMW VEHICLES. LEFT UNFIXED, A PASSENGER SEATED IN THE FRONT SEAT WILL NOT HAVE THE SAFETY BENEFITS OF AN OPERABLE AIRBAG AND THIS COULD RESULT IN UNECESSARY SERIOUS INJURY. MY REQUEST IS FOR THE NHTSA AND BMW TO EXPAND THE SAFETY RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES EXHIBITING THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT AND RECTIFY THE POSSIBLE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS THIS FAILURE PRESENTS.
WHEN MY CAR REACHED ~75,000 MILES, THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION NOTIFICATION STARTED TO APPEAR ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. THE MESSAGE SEEMS TO CONVEY THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH BMW AND FINDING OUT THAT MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS USED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE TREAD OF THE TIRE BEGAN DE-LAMINATING FROM THE TIRE AFTER 40K MILES. FORTUNATELY THE CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND THE MECHANIC FOUND THE DEFECTIVE TIRES BEFORE THEY CAME APART WHILE DRIVING. ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE OLD TIRES REMAIN IN MY POSSESSION. *TR

THERE ARE NUMEROUS TSBS & RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. MECHANIC CALLED BMW TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL, YES, 10 YEARS/UNLIMITED MILES. I CALLED BMW GAVE THEM MY VIN...BUT, NO LUCK, MY 2006 IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT, YET OTHER 2006 BMW ARE. ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN AGAINST BMW, AS I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE AND AS YOU CAN SEE, I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM MY MECHANIC. STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT AND LOCKED THE DOOR AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. THE DOOR LOCKS DIDN'T OPEN WHEN TRYING TO OPEN WITH THE REMOTE. THE DOOR FUSE AND ACTUATOR BLEW UP. MY VEHICLE (BMW 330I ? 2006), HAS AN AIRBAG/SEAT BELT LIGHT ELIMINATED ON THE DASH. BMW HAS DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILED PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. 2006 330I SPORTS SEATS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ITEM IN 2008. MY VEHICLE WHICH HAS SPORTS SEATS WAS NEVER CALLED FOR THE RECALL. THEY STATED MY VEHICLE'S VIN 'DOES NOT QUALIFY' FOR THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ALSO EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS ON ALL 3 SERIES MODELS WITH OUT THE SPORTS SEAT OPTION FOR THIS SENSOR. I HAVE TALKED A DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND BMW DIRECTLY. THEY SAID MY ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE TO WARRANT A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND COMBINATION OF OPTIONS. BMW RECALL ID # 57362 - AIR BAGS: FRONTAL RECALL DATE AUG 05, 2008 RECALL DATE: AUG 05, 2008 MODEL AFFECTED: 2006 BMW 3-SERIES SUMMARY: BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM, WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL BE ILLUMINATED. CONSEQUENCES: IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REWORK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT SO THAT EXTERNAL FORCE APPLICATION TO THE SEAT DOES NOT CAUSE A CRACK TO THE MAT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2008. MY DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED IN THE GARAGE AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS EITHER FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OCCUPIED AND THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. *TR
FIRST THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK SO I WOULD HAVE TO USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE DRIVER DOOR. BOUGHT A NEW ACTUATOR AND HAD IT REPLACED. NOT EVEN ONE MONTH LATER THE BACK SEAT DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR WENT OUT AS WELL. HOWEVER THERE IS NO KEY HOLE FOR THE BACK DOOR AND IT CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. I WAS TOLD BY A BMW DEALER THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE DOOR TORN OFF AND REPLACED WITH A NEW DOOR BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! BOTH BACK WINDOW REGULATORS WENT OUT AS WELL! GOT THE BACK SEAT PASSENGER SIDE FIXED. BUT CAN'T GET THE DRIVER SIDE DONE YET. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN A YEAR. *JS

THE MIRROR HAS LEAKED RELEASING THE CORROSIVE ACIDIC MATERIAL USED IN THE MIRROR. IN 2004 THE BMW TECHNOLOGY BOOKLET HI-LIGHTED THE AUTO-DIMMING MIRROR ADVANTAGE, "INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY FREES YOU FROM HAVING TO REACH UP AND RESET THE MIRROR'S DIMMING MODE MANUALLY.......REPRESENTS YET ANOTHER CONTRIBUTION TO DRIVING SAFETY". I NOW UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO FAR TOO MANY BMW OWNERS AND THAT BMW IS NOT STANDING BEHIND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO DRIVING SAFETY. WHY WASN'T A RECALL MADE WHEN THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST IDENTIFIED. THE CORROSIVE MATERIAL LEAKED ONTO THE PASSENGER LEATHER BUCKET SEAT AND THE CENTER CONSOLE EATING AWAY THE MATERIAL. OUR BMW DEALER, ROCKVILLE BMW, WANTS TO CHARGE $585 TO REPLACE THE MIRROR, $200 TO REPLACE THE CONSOLE AREA AND THEN GAVE US A PHONE NUMBER FOR SOMEONE IN VIRGINIA TO DISCUSS FIXING THE LEATHER BUCKET SEAT. WE LOVE OUR BMW, (EVEN HAVE A SECOND 2010 BMW 325XI) AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT COVERED BY A RECALL AS A WARRANTY ISSUE. BMW HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND NEVER NOTIFIED CAR OWNERS THAT THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE WHEN IT OCCURS. THE CAR BARELY HAS 39,000 MILES, IS GARAGE KEPT AND WAS PURCHASED IN MAY 2004. THE AUTO DIMMING REAR VIEW MIRROR IS NOW A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT BLURS EVERYTHING THAT IS IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR.
