I WAS EXITING A FREEWAY AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I PASSED THE VEHICLE AND ACCELERATED IN ORDER TO KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR BEHIND ME. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I "PUT THE PEDAL TO THE METAL", I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER FOR ABOUT 5 - 8 SECONDS. THE CAR I HAD JUST PASSED NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPECT ME PASS AND THEN REDUCE MY SPEED. I TOOK MY CARE TO THE BMW DEALER WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THEY CHECKS OUT THE CAR (IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS OLD) AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE MORE OFTEN IN SPORT MODE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO OTHER TIMES OVER THE LAST 21 MONTHS AND THE DEALER HAS SAID EACH TIME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR CAME ON. POWER WAS SUDDENLY REDUCED TO LESS THAN 35MPH. THIS WARRANTED AN IMMEDIATE MOVE TO THE SLOW LANE OF TRAFFIC AND HAD TO GO SEVERAL MILES UNTIL IT WAS SAFE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO ATTEMPT A RESTART. RESTART DID NOT HELP, HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR AT 35 MPH TO NEAREST DEALER FOR SERVICE. *TR
MY 2010 BMW 335XI (3,500 MILES) SUDDENLY STALLED ON WA HIGHWAY 520, ON THE LAKE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC DUE TO HPFP FAILURE. THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WARNING ON THE NAV DISPLAY, STATING THAT ONLY LIMITED ENGINE POWER WAS AVAILABLE, WHEN TWO SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE STALLED, LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AS WELL. I WAS GOING APPROX. 25 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ENTERING THE BRIDGE THAT HAS NO SHOULDER. I WAS BLOCKING ONE OF TWO EASTBOUND LANES AND POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND GO FOR APPROX. 50 YARDS BEFORE THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN. DOING SO 4-5 TIMES I REACHED THE MIDSPAN TURNOUT AND STOPPED IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SPOT. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN A DOT TRUCK APPROACHED AND PUSHED ME OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE BRIDGE. I WAS IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE POSITION FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES! THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE PROBLEM WAS A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, THE PUMP WAS REPLACED. WHEN I CALLED BMW TO COMPLAIN, THE REP SAID SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I JUST READ AN ARTICLE AND THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WIDESPREAD. A BRAND NEW CAR STALLING ON THE FREEWAY WITHOUT WARNING IS EXTREMELY UNNERVING AND DANGEROUS. *TR
BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RUN FLAT TIRES CAUSE NOISE AND VIBRATION AFTER 7000KM ON A 2010 BMW 328IX. *TR
FAILURE OF BMW HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND KNOWN ISSUE FOR A LONG TIME NOW. CAR OPERATES AT REDUCED POWER AND PART MUST BE REPLACED AND PROBLEM IS LIKELY TO RETURN. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILED A MONTH AFTER THE CAR WAS LEASED. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START UP. I TOOK IT TO BMW AND THEY STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. THIS FUEL PUMP FAILURE COULD HAVE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I STARTED INVESTIGATING AND NOTICED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. ITS A SHAME NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE FROM YOUR AGENCY THUS FAR AS WELL AS A RECALL FROM BMW. *TR
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 328I EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTIPRO CONTACT TIRES, SIZE 205/55/R16, DOT NUMBER: 1LT4 BXH62711. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR OF THE TIRES WOULD CONSISTENTLY LOOSE AIR AND THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRES, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000. UPDATED 11/17/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAS BEEN ON GOING SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE. SHE ALSO STATED THE TIRES MUST BE CHECKED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. UPDATED 06/13/2012 *JS
PROBLEM 1 - ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR AT STARTUP. CAR DID NOT IDLE CORRECTLY AND RAN ROUGH WHEN DRIVEN. WHEN DRIVING, MISFIRES AND REDUCED POWER. MAX SPEED ACHIEVED WAS 35MPH. *TR
THE FUEL INJECTOR FOR MY 2010 BMW 335I DIED AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 14 DAYS. THE VEHICLE WILL STILL DRIVE, BUT IF YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, IT SHAKES VERY BADLY. AFTER HAVING IT REPLACED, ONE OF THE INJECTORS WENT BAD AGAIN- 7 DAYS LATER. THIS IS AN ISSUE, AS I AM DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY. *TR
WE LEASED A NEW 2010 BMW 335D (DIESEL) ON 12/12/09. ON 2/28/10, THE CAR FAILED TO START FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER A VERY HEAVY RAIN AND WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY BMW DEALER. WE TOLD THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR THAT WE BELIEVED THERE WAS WATER IN THE SYSTEM RESULTING FROM THE RAIN. AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR, HE TOLD US THAT THE CAR'S FAILURE TO START TWICE AFTER A HEAVY RAIN WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE, THAT THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF FAULTY GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WOULD TAKE A WHILE TO COME FROM GERMANY. HE ALSO INFORMED US THAT REPAIR EFFORTS WOULD BE FURTHER DELAYED BECAUSE NO DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA HAD TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONSULT A DIESEL EXPERT ON THE EAST COAST. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON 3/11/10. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, THE CAR STARTED ERRATICALLY AND RAN POORLY, SO WE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER A MONTH OF FAILING TO FIX THE CAR, THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT THEY HAD SENT THE FUEL TO A LAB TO BE TESTED (THIS LATER TURNED OUT TO BE FALSE) AND HAD DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, THAT THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FUEL COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY US AND THAT WE WERE, THEREFORE, FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIRS. EXHAUSTIVE EFFORTS TO GET BMW TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM HAVE PROVEN USELESS. WE WILL FILE A "LEMON LAW" LAWSUIT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. SAFETY ISSUES: (1) OUR PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE OUR CAR HAPPENED TO BE STATIONARY. IF, AS WE BELIEVE, THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF THE RAIN, THE STRONG POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT OTHER BMW DIESEL CARS MIGHT STALL WHILE ON THE ROAD IN BAD WEATHER AND PERHAPS AT HIGH SPEEDS. (2) IT IS CLEAR THAT BMW IS SELLING ITS BMW DIESEL CARS WITHOUT HAVING IN PLACE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS, MEANING THAT OWNERS OF BMW DIESEL CARS HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THEIR CARS ARE BEING PROPERLY REPAIRED & MAINTAINED. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT MISTAKES COULD BE MADE BY UNTRAINED MECHANICS WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. *TR
MY BRAND NEW CAR'S WINDOW SHIELD WIPER STOP WORKING WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY SON IN A HEAVY RAINING DAY. LUCKILY IT IS CLOSE TO HOME AND THERE IS NO ACCIDENT. MY CAR IS A BRAND NEW AND ONLY DROVE AROUND 500 MILES. EVENTUALLY, THE DEALER TOOK ABOUT 4 DAYS TO FIX THE CONTROLLER AND WIPER MOTOR. *TR
I HAD NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTIONS. MY CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CAR WAS IN "LIMP" MODE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. I PARKED MY CAR AND LEFT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL HOURS AND THE CAR TOOK A LONG TIME TO START, UPON STARTING THE CARE IDLED VERY HIGH AND THE THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND SHUT OFF SHORTLY AFTER. UPON BEING TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THERE OUTCOME IS MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *CN
ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 2ND 2010 MY BRAND NEW (ONLY 3859 MILES ON IT) BMW 335I COUPE STARTED EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY STARTING UP (THEN ENGINE WOULD JUST TURN AND TURN). UPON STARTING UP, THE ENGINE IDLED VERY ROUGHLY, AS IF ONLY FIRING ON PARTIAL CYLINDERS. NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS WERE OBSERVED AT THIS TIME. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE SEEMED TO START RUNNING SMOOTHLY. DURING DRIVING OF THE CAR LATER ON THE "ENGINE MALFUNCTION - REDUCED POWER" LIGHT APPEARED. WHEN TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED (APROX. 20MPH) THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL I WAS FORCED TO CALL TOW SERVICE TO PICK THE CAR UP AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. SURVEYING THE ONLINE COMMUNITY OF BMW OWNERS THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR AND SO I AM DOCUMENTING THIS OCCURRENCE WITH ME HERE IN THE HOPES THAT BMW CAN BE MADE TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT FOR ALL CONCERNED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER HEAD REST WOULD NOT GO DOWN FAR ENOUGH AND IT WAS APPROXIMATELY AN INCH AND A HALF FROM THE TOP OF THE SEAT. ONE OF THE DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE IS FIVE FEET TWO INCHES AND THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK. TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL
MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILED IN MY 2010 BMW 335I WHILE ON AN ONRAMP TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I ACCELERATED I FELT A CHUGGING SENSATION FROM THE CAR FOLLOWED BY A GONG. THE GONE WAS ALERTING ME THAT MY CAR HAD WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER THAN I HAD ALREADY. LUCKY THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME MOVED OVER ONCE I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY EXIT ONTO THE NEAR BY FEEDER AND INTO A PARK LOT TO AWAIT ASSISTANCE. I WAS LUCKY IN THAT THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC BECAUSE IF THERE HAD BEEN HEAVY TRAFFIC THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD CHANCE FOR INJURY OR EVEN POSSIBLY DEATH FOR ME AND OTHER MOTORIST. FAILURE OF THE HPFP HAPPENS RANDOMLY, THERE ARE REALLY NO CONDITIONS ON WHEN IT CAN FAIL, IE: MILES DRIVEN OR DRIVING SITUATION. THERE ARE A FEW SYMPTOMS, BUT THOSE VARY FROM CAR TO CAR. MY CAR HAD NO PREVIOUS INDICATIONS OF FAILING PRIOR. HOWEVER ONCE FAILED I EXPERIENCED LONG, HARSH CRANKS, FOLLOWED BY AN ERRATIC IDLE, AND EVENTUAL "LIMP MODE" OCCURRING SHORTLY AFTER. THE LONG CRANKING AND HARSH IDLE ARE USUAL SYMPTOMS OF A FAILING/FAILED HPFP. VIDEOS AND PICTURES I DOCUMENTED SHOW THIS IN MY CAR. MY ISSUE WAS TEMPORARY "PATCHED" WITH A NEW HPFP REPLACEMENT. RECENTLY I HAVE STARTED HAVING LONG CRANKS WHICH THE DEALER TRIED TO REMEDY BY REPLACING A LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP SENSOR, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I ALSO HAVE PAPERWORK DOCUMENTING THAT VISIT AND THE VISIT THAT REPLACED THE HPFP BACK IN DECEMBER. BMW HAS HAD THIS ISSUE EVER SINCE INTRODUCING THE N54 ENGINE IN VARIOUS MODELS IN 2006 OR SO AND HAS YET TO HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION ALERT COMING IN END OF MAY 2014. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE AIRBAG IN HEADREST AND REPLACED IT. LESS THAN A MONTH THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION CAME ON AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR THIS TIME TO MY NORMAL DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE. THEY RESET THE MALFUNCTION ALERT ON JULY 2 2014. THE MALFUNCTION ALERT FOR THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM RETURNED, I AGAIN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN IRVINE THE ONE THAT RESET THE ALERT IN JULY. THIS TIME I EXPLAINED TO THEM THEY NEEDED TO FIND WHAT THE ISSUE IS. AFTER AN ENTIRE DAY THEY GAVE ME A CALL AND SAID THEY FINALLY FOUND THE ISSUE ITS IN THE WIRING HARNESS. OF COURSE THIS WILL COST ABOUT 1250.00. I WENT BACK AND FOURTH ASKING WHY WAS MY HEAD REST REPLACED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AT CREVIER BMW 1500 AUTO MALL DR, SANTA ANA, CA 92705. THE IRVINE BMW SAID THAT CANT ANSWER THAT AND I WOULD NEED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THEM. I DON'T BELIEVE NOW THAT THE HEADREST FOR THE AIR BAG NEEDED REPLACED AND THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. I SPENT 450 ALREADY ON THE ISSUE IN MAY AND TODAY RETURNING BACK TO THE CREVIER DEALER. *TR
