The high pressure fuel pump failed. I still have the vehicle but it does work. It cannot be driven with a bad high pressure fuel pump. To repair it is over $2000.00.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMX 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE CONTACT AND A POLICE OFFICER PUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY. AFTER WAITING 30 MINUTES THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN BACK TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS. KNOWN PROBLEM AT BMW AND MECHANICS. BMW HAS OFFERED AN "LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENSION". WHY WASN'T IT A FULL RECALL? MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. I'M REPORTING IT ONLY AS A CONCERN.
MY CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THERE WAS NO APPARENT CAUSE. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, HE FOUND THAT THE HOSE CONNECTING THE FUEL LINE TO THE GAS TANK HAD ROTTED COME DISCONNECTED, SO MY CAR WAS NOT GETTING FUEL. HE PUT A NEW HOSE AND CLAMP ON THE CAR. ONE WEEK LATER MY CAR WOULDN'T START; I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AGAIN. HE STATED IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE. THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE A COMPLETELY NEW FUEL TANK, NEW LINES, CLAMPS, ECT. INSTALLED. THE FIRST REPAIR COSTS ME $500.00 AND THE NEW TANK COSTS ME ANOTHER $1400.00 I CALLED BMW AND THEY INDICATED THERE WAS A MEMO REGARDING SOMETHING SIMILAR, BUT NO RECALL. I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD PROVIDE SOME HELP TO ME SINCE IT IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND COST A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY. THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE IT WASN'T A STATED RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OF THE FUEL LINES FRACTURED AND THAT THE FUEL LINES AND FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE PA TURNPIKE NEAR THE QUAKERTOWN EXIT AT 75 MPH IN THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND CAME TO A STOP IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC. AS THE CAR WAS SHUTTING DOWN I HAD DIFFICULTY STEERING BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE ERROR CODES OR LIGHTS TO INDICATE ISSUE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ROLL BUT I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT A STATE FARM HIGHWAY WORKER STOPPED TO PROTECT ME FROM HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME UNTIL I COULD BE SAFELY MOVED OFF OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WEST GERMAN BMW IN FORT WASHINGTON, PA. COST FOR THE ABOVE SERVICE WAS PAID FOR BY BMW UNDER A "WARRANTY EXTENSION" AS THIS IS A "KNOWN ISSUE." I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS NO RECALL OR SERVICE NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT BY BMW TO INSPECT OR REPAIR FAILING FUEL LINES. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE ISSUES FOUND IN MY CAR ARE EXCEPTIONALLY SERIOUS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE THESE REPAIRS WILL APPEAR ON MY CARFAX AND WILL POSITION MY CAR TO OTHER BUYERS AS ONE WITH MAJOR ISSUES. DURING INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCESS SEVERAL ISSUE WERE NOTED. 1. NO FAULTS WERE STORED IN THE VEHICLE. 2. UPON CHECKING THE FUEL PRESSURE, NONE WAS FOUND @ RAIL 3. UPON REMOVING THE FUEL TAN COVER THEY DISCOVERED THAT A HOSE POPPED OFF INSIDE THE TANK 4. AFTER REATTACHING, THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, ONLY TO HAVE THE HOSE COME OFF AGAIN THE NEXT DAY AS IT WAS GOING THROUGH THE COURTESY CAR WASH 5. AFTER OPENING THE CAR AGAIN, THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINE THAT WAS CLAMPED ON "LINE A" RUPTURED, FULL FUEL TANK AND ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT 2ND TIME IN 8 MONTHS. BRAND NEW CAR WAS LEASED IN MARCH 2010. FIRST HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT BAD AND WAS REPLACED IN JULY. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. CAR SHUTS OFF AND ALL ELECTRONICS GO DEAD INCLUDING BREAK SYSTEM. I HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ONCE ABOUT BMW 335XI 2010 MODEL AND THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF ONLINE COMPLAINS AS WELL. *TR
I OWN A JAN. 2010 BMW 335I WITH 5,800 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE WARNING SYSTEM CAM ON AND READ THAT THE ENGINE WAS AT REDUCED POWER BUT I COULD CONTINUE DRIVING AT A REDUCED SPEED. AS I WAS READING THE NOTICE, THE ENGINE DIED AND I HAD TO GLIDE OVER 5 LANES WITH NO POWER TO REACH THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM EXPLAINED, SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUSPECTED IT WAS THE HIGH INJECTION FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY'VE HAD TO REPLACE OTHERS. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. SO WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL OUT ON THIS? I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED TRYING TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. *TR
I WAS EXITING A FREEWAY AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I PASSED THE VEHICLE AND ACCELERATED IN ORDER TO KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR BEHIND ME. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I "PUT THE PEDAL TO THE METAL", I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER FOR ABOUT 5 - 8 SECONDS. THE CAR I HAD JUST PASSED NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPECT ME PASS AND THEN REDUCE MY SPEED. I TOOK MY CARE TO THE BMW DEALER WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THEY CHECKS OUT THE CAR (IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS OLD) AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE MORE OFTEN IN SPORT MODE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO OTHER TIMES OVER THE LAST 21 MONTHS AND THE DEALER HAS SAID EACH TIME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2010 BMW 335XI (3,500 MILES) SUDDENLY STALLED ON WA HIGHWAY 520, ON THE LAKE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC DUE TO HPFP FAILURE. THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WARNING ON THE NAV DISPLAY, STATING THAT ONLY LIMITED ENGINE POWER WAS AVAILABLE, WHEN TWO SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE STALLED, LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AS WELL. I WAS GOING APPROX. 25 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ENTERING THE BRIDGE THAT HAS NO SHOULDER. I WAS BLOCKING ONE OF TWO EASTBOUND LANES AND POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND GO FOR APPROX. 50 YARDS BEFORE THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN. DOING SO 4-5 TIMES I REACHED THE MIDSPAN TURNOUT AND STOPPED IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SPOT. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN A DOT TRUCK APPROACHED AND PUSHED ME OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE BRIDGE. I WAS IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE POSITION FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES! THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE PROBLEM WAS A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, THE PUMP WAS REPLACED. WHEN I CALLED BMW TO COMPLAIN, THE REP SAID SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I JUST READ AN ARTICLE AND THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WIDESPREAD. A BRAND NEW CAR STALLING ON THE FREEWAY WITHOUT WARNING IS EXTREMELY UNNERVING AND DANGEROUS. *TR

FUEL PUMP FAILED A MONTH AFTER THE CAR WAS LEASED. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START UP. I TOOK IT TO BMW AND THEY STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. THIS FUEL PUMP FAILURE COULD HAVE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I STARTED INVESTIGATING AND NOTICED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. THE FUEL INJECTOR FOR MY 2010 BMW 335I DIED AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 14 DAYS. THE VEHICLE WILL STILL DRIVE, BUT IF YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, IT SHAKES VERY BADLY. AFTER HAVING IT REPLACED, ONE OF THE INJECTORS WENT BAD AGAIN- 7 DAYS LATER. THIS IS AN ISSUE, AS I AM DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY. *TR
WE LEASED A NEW 2010 BMW 335D (DIESEL) ON 12/12/09. ON 2/28/10, THE CAR FAILED TO START FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER A VERY HEAVY RAIN AND WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY BMW DEALER. WE TOLD THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR THAT WE BELIEVED THERE WAS WATER IN THE SYSTEM RESULTING FROM THE RAIN. AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR, HE TOLD US THAT THE CAR'S FAILURE TO START TWICE AFTER A HEAVY RAIN WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE, THAT THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF FAULTY GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WOULD TAKE A WHILE TO COME FROM GERMANY. HE ALSO INFORMED US THAT REPAIR EFFORTS WOULD BE FURTHER DELAYED BECAUSE NO DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA HAD TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONSULT A DIESEL EXPERT ON THE EAST COAST. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON 3/11/10. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, THE CAR STARTED ERRATICALLY AND RAN POORLY, SO WE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER A MONTH OF FAILING TO FIX THE CAR, THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT THEY HAD SENT THE FUEL TO A LAB TO BE TESTED (THIS LATER TURNED OUT TO BE FALSE) AND HAD DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, THAT THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FUEL COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY US AND THAT WE WERE, THEREFORE, FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIRS. EXHAUSTIVE EFFORTS TO GET BMW TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM HAVE PROVEN USELESS. WE WILL FILE A "LEMON LAW" LAWSUIT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. SAFETY ISSUES: (1) OUR PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE OUR CAR HAPPENED TO BE STATIONARY. IF, AS WE BELIEVE, THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF THE RAIN, THE STRONG POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT OTHER BMW DIESEL CARS MIGHT STALL WHILE ON THE ROAD IN BAD WEATHER AND PERHAPS AT HIGH SPEEDS. (2) IT IS CLEAR THAT BMW IS SELLING ITS BMW DIESEL CARS WITHOUT HAVING IN PLACE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS, MEANING THAT OWNERS OF BMW DIESEL CARS HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THEIR CARS ARE BEING PROPERLY REPAIRED & MAINTAINED. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT MISTAKES COULD BE MADE BY UNTRAINED MECHANICS WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. *TR
I HAD NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTIONS. MY CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CAR WAS IN "LIMP" MODE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. I PARKED MY CAR AND LEFT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 2ND 2010 MY BRAND NEW (ONLY 3859 MILES ON IT) BMW 335I COUPE STARTED EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY STARTING UP (THEN ENGINE WOULD JUST TURN AND TURN). UPON STARTING UP, THE ENGINE IDLED VERY ROUGHLY, AS IF ONLY FIRING ON PARTIAL CYLINDERS. NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS WERE OBSERVED AT THIS TIME. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE SEEMED TO START RUNNING SMOOTHLY. DURING DRIVING OF THE CAR LATER ON THE "ENGINE MALFUNCTION - REDUCED POWER" LIGHT APPEARED. WHEN TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED (APROX. 20MPH) THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL I WAS FORCED TO CALL TOW SERVICE TO PICK THE CAR UP AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. SURVEYING THE ONLINE COMMUNITY OF BMW OWNERS THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR AND SO I AM DOCUMENTING THIS OCCURRENCE WITH ME HERE IN THE HOPES THAT BMW CAN BE MADE TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT FOR ALL CONCERNED. *TR
