The tail-lights have gone out creating safty issue and number of warning lights to come up on the dashboard. Dealership stated that the wiring harness around ground wire has melted. They stated that this is same issue that is mentioned under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V407000. The service advisor said that his issue would be fixed by same service bulletin SIB 630613, however my date range is not included in the recall. I would like to report an issue to open a case and extend the recall to include all E60 models from 2004 to 2010. Would you please open an investigation into this matter and contact me for additional information and photos.
The contact owns a 2005 BMW 545I. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the contact became aware of a ball of white smoke coming from the exhaust. The contact stated that whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed crank casting and the protective crank casting valve. The contact was informed that the failure was similar to an undisclosed manufacturer's recall, however the contact's VIN was not associated with the recall. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the smoke was excessive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,195.
I am encountering persistent issues with my 2005 BMW 525i. Despite having replaced several critical components, including the ignition coils, spark plugs, mass air flow sensor, and throttle body sensors, the vehicle continues to experience performance problems, specifically failing to advance beyond the fourth cylinder when driving uphill. After conducting numerous diagnostic tests, I have concluded that there may be an air leak in the intake manifold. Additionally, after prolonged use under these conditions, the positive battery cable from the trunk has shown signs of overheating, evidenced by smoke, which I suspect is related to repeated uphill driving. While the vehicle performs adequately on flat surfaces, it exhibits hesitation and jerking once it surpasses the fourth cylinder.
The wiring inside of the headlights has dried up and fallen off, leaving bare electrical wire. The resulting was both of the headlights became non operational at night. To replace the headlights in the car with all the factory features is about 3200.00 for parts alone. I know of others who have had this happen, and everyone i know who owns one, has the same exact problem. The vehicle in question barely has 125,000 miles on it. I feel the manufacturer should repair these vehicles at no cost to the owners.
At approxamitately 1:20pm on July 13, after being parked for a little over an hour I was told that my car was burning. 911 was called immediately and the owner of the establishment went outside and called to the firemen at the station on the other side of the street. Their response was immediate. Response was so quick that damage was limited to the right rear. Which seems that the fire started in the area directly foreward and above the battery
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHERE THERE WAS OIL IN ROAD. MY CAR LOST CONTROL AND VEERED INTO A GUARD RAIL ON THE HIGHWAY. MY CAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOTALED AND NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE CRASH.
I PURCHASED THIS BMW 525I USED FROM A PERSON THAT OBTAINED IT FROM A WHOLESALE DEALER, IT HAD SOME MINOR FRONTEND DAMAGE FROM A FENDER BENDER (BROKEN GRILL, DING TO HOOD) SHOWING 107900 MILES. EVERYTHING ELSE CHECKED OUT. I FEW MONTHS LATER I NOTICED A SLIGHT CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION SOUND, BUT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES HERE IN WISCONSIN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER WHILE JUST FINISHING GOING UP A SLIGHT STRAIGHT INCLINE AT AROUND 45MPH THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED DOWN INTO LIMP DOWN MODE AND A TEMPORARY NOTICE CAME UP ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN INDICATING A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE CLEARED THE PROBLEM, THE NEXT DAY NEAR THE SAME SPOT IT OCCURRED AGAIN. I ASSUMED THE TRANSMISSION MIGHT BE LOW ON FLUID BUT LOOKING ONLINE BMW INDICATED THIS IS A NO SERVICE TRANSMISSION BUT THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL BY ACCESSING A PLUG UNDER THE CAR. WHEN A SERVICE TECH CHECKED HE SAID THE FLUID LEVEL WAS NORMAL BUT SMELLED BURNT. HE RECOMMENDED AGAINST ANY SERVICE IN THAT IT LIKELY WOULD RESULT IN FASTER COMPLETE FAILURE. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT REOCCURRED AND NO CODES SHOW IN THE SYSTEM FILE, IN THAT BMW INSISTED ON NO PROVIDING A METHOD TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, THEY ASSUMED THE LIABILITY FOR FAILURE IF REGULAR MAINTAINANCE (TRANSMISSION FLUSH) COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FAILURE.
GOOD EVENING ALL, SINCE 2011 I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE I DRIVE SYSTEM. JUST RECENTLY, THE SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH BMW OF ONTARIO, THEY DECLINED TO COVER THE VEHICLE'S I DRIVE COMPUTER MODULE. FINALLY, THE COMPUTER STOPPED WORKING AND I COULD NOT SEE MY COMPUTER DISPLAY OR LISTEN TO MUSIC. I COULD NOT RE-SET THE AIR PRESSURE ON THE TIRES. I DROVE THE VEHICLE THAT WAY FOR MONTHS. FINALLY, I WENT TO THE JUNK YARD AND FOUND A VEHICLE SIMILAR TO MINE AND REPLACED IT. EVEN THOUGH I REPLACED THE COMPUTER, I WAS NOT ABLE TO GAIN CERTAIN FUNCTIONS ON MY VEHICLE THAT CAME STANDARD WITH THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE SUCH AS THE SATELLITE RADIO OR SPEAK TO CALL FUNCTION. I'M PRETTY SURE MANY VEHICLE OWNERS CAN RELATE TO THIS ISSUE AND THE DIFFICULTY IT HAS CREATED TO TRY AND MITIGATE WITH THE DEALER. TAKE CARE,
GOOD EVENING ALL, EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS IN THE VEHICLE, THERE IS A STRONG SMELL INSIDE THE CAB. THIS BEGAN OCCURRING ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO BUT HAS CONTINUED THOUGHT MY TIME WITH THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY, I CANNOT FILL THE TANK AT MORE THAN . IF I DO FILL UP THE VEHICLE TO MORE THAN I FACE HAVING TO SMELL THE FUMES OF THE FUEL INSIDE THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. MANY PEOPLE HAVE A SIMILAR COMPLAINT WITH THESE VEHICLES.
AS I UNDERSTAND A VEHICLE FOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IN PASSENGER SIDE FREE STREAM HAS BEEN DEALT WITH ALREADY I JUST RECEIVED THIS VEHICLE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO SO IT IS NEW TO ME AND I HAVE THE SAME ERRORS AS WHICH A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MY CAR 2005 545 I BMW. AS I HAVE READ AFTER X AMOUNT OF YEARS A RECALL IS FINALIZED I JUST RECEIVED THIS VEHICLE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO SO I FEEL I AM STILL ABLE TO SUCCEED FROM THIS SAFETY RECALL FROM THE MANUFACTURE
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR IN A BUSY HIGHWAY THE CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING. NO ODD SOUNDS NO SHUTTING NO CLUNKING. IT WAS LIKE SOME JUST TURNED THE KEY OFF. I MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO WAIT TWO HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO SHOW UP. MOST OF THE WEEK PREVIOUS TO THIS MY CAR WOULD NOT START AT RANDOM TIMES EVEN THOUGH MY BATTERY WAS GOOD AND I HAD GAS. THE PROBLEM WAS THE DME HAD WATER INGRESS FROM A POOR LOCATION WHERE THE DME AND METRONIC COMPUTER AND THE INTERGRADED POWER MODULE ARE LOCATED AND STORED. THEY ARE IN A SEALED PLASTIC BOX UNDER THE CABIN FRESH AIR INLETS AND CABIN FILTERS AND THE FRONT HOOD COWL. I'M THE BOX THERE IS A FAN AT THE BOTTOM TO EXPELL MOISTER. IF THE INTERGTATED POWER MODULE STARTS TO GO THEN THE FAN STOPS WORKING OR THE FAN IT SELF GOES BAD. AT THAT POINT THERE IS ALMOST ALWAYS WATER INGRESS INTO THE DME AND OR THE METRONIC COMPUTER CAUSING THE CAR TO NOT TO RUN OR EVEN CRANK AND WITH WATER CORROSION ON THE THE DME IT CAUSES PHANTOM PROBLEMS IN OTHER AREAS OF THE CAR. THE DME IS ALSO NOT EASILY REPLACED. THE CAR HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TO ORDER A NEW DME AND ALIGN IT WITH THE BE CAS MODULE FOR THE IMMOBILIZER TO WORK CORRECTLY AND FOR YOUR CAR TO START. THIS USALLY COST IN EXCESS OF $2,000 JUST FOR THE NEW DME. THE WORST PART OF THIS WHOLE THING IS I LOST MY JOB BECAUSE I WAS 4 HOURS LATE TO WORK AFTER WAITING FOR THE TOW AND GETTING A RIDE TO WORK
GOOD EVENING SIR, I AM WRITING TO YOU BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAD BARE WIRES ON THE HEADLIGHT. THE HOT WIRE AND GROUND WIRES WERE TOUCHING. I DID NOT HAVE THE HEADLIGHT WORKING. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRES OF THE VEHICLE PEELING OFF AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME.
MY CAR HAS A GAS SMELL EVEN IN THE INSIDE SMELLS LIKE GAS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 530I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE AFFECTED THE AIR BAGS, AND THAT THE FLOOR MAT SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INDICATED THAT AN UNKNOWN RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS AVAILABLE FROM 2009; HOWEVER, THE STATUTE EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AFTER HAVING AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SCAN MY VEHICLE WITH AN ADVANCED SCAN TOOL, THE ERROR THAT CAME UP WAS FOR THE "PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR". THIS FAULT HAS CAUSED BOTH THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT TO REMAN ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I HAD THE CODE RESET. BUT AFTER A PERSON SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE ERROR CODE CAME BACK WITH THE SAME FAULT CODE.
CERTAIN BMW MODELS INCLUDING E60 2005 545I ALMOST ALL REQUIRE VALVE SEAL REPLACEMENT DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. THIS RESULTS IN OIL LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND SECONDARY AIR INJECTOR CAUSING SMOKE TO EMIT OUT OF THE TAILPIPES. ALTHOUGH MY CAR PASSED AL COMPUTERIZED SMOG CHECKS, IT DID NOT PASS THE NEW VISUAL TEST BECAUSE OF THESE FAULTY VALVE STEM SEALS. THIS OCCURS AFTE IDLING THE ENGINE FOR 10 MINUTES. THE REPAIR COSTS FOR THIS ARE ABOUT EQUAL TO THE RETAIL VALUE OF THE CAR. EVERY MECHANIC I'VE SPOKEN TO BELIEVES THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED NOT TO ACTIVATE THE SEAT HEATER. PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAULT.
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR HAS FAILED. REAR LEFT HAND BRAKE/BACKUP LIGHT IS PROBLEMATIC AND INTERMITTENTLY WORKS, USUALLY ONLY SHOWS UP ON CAR'S DASHBOARD WHILE IN REVERSE, BUT SOMETIMES WILL STAY ON-SCREEN DURING DRIVING. FRONT ASHTRAY OUTLET/CIGARETTE LIGHTER DOESN'T WORK.

SUNROOF DRAIN CLOGGED INTO TRUNK CAUSING FIRE IN BATTERY COMPARTMENT AND SPARE TIRE AREA. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN SHOP AFTER NOT BEING RUN FOR HOURS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT AN AIR BAG RECALL AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000.

HEADLIGHT WIRES ARE ALMOST BARE, AND COULD POSSIBLY SPARK AND CAUSE A FIRE.
MY IDRIVE SHOWED A MESSAGE INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IN THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS DEACTIVATED BECAUSE OF A SENSOR OR SIMILAR ISSUE. I TOOK THIS TO THE DEALER, ASKED FOR IT TO BE COVERED UNDER THE PREVIOUS SERVICE BULLETIN WHICH INDICATED THE SEAT MAT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. I CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND THEY SAID THEY MIGHT FIX IT IF I PAID FOR THE ASSESSMENT. THE ASSESSMENT SUGGESTED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN DIFFERENT SENSOR. AND SUGGESTED THAT A BATTERY CABLE SHOULD BE REPLACED. ALL OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE CAR WORKS FINE. BOTH BMW AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER REPORTED CASES OF THE BATTERY CABLE ACTUALLY CAUSING THE AIRBAGS TO BE DEACTIVATED. TODAY, THE AIRBAG IS STILL NOT WORKING, AND BMW HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
BMW I-DRIVE CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING, AND BLINKS OR REBOOTS. WHILE DRIVING HOME IT CUT OUT, AND WOULD NOT STOP BLINKING. THIS DISTRACTION AND MALFUNCTION IS DANGEROUS.
WHILE DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER, THE PASSENGER WARNING SENSOR ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC VERIFIED THAT THE SENSOR IS BAD. I CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA CONCERNING THE VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN #08V384000, BUT THEY SAID MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL THAT COVERED MY MODEL, MANUFACTURE DATE AND THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 94,400 MILES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHICH SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.

THE FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD THAT HAD A RECALL AND SHAME ON BMW FOR NOT COVERING THIS FOR THE LIFE OF THEIR VEHICLES. GOD FORBID SOMEONE GETS HURT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT AFFORD TO PONY UP THE $1300 TO FIX THIS SHODDY PART

BOUGHT MY TIRE IN FEBRUARY OF 2015. HAD ISSUE IMMEDIATELY WITH IT DEFLATING ON ITS OWN WITH NO NOTICEABLE LEAKS. TOOK TO TIRE STORE I BOUGHT FROM THEY FOUND NO ISSUES. PUT INFLATE A TIRE IN IT AND SEEMED TO HELP FOR 2 MONTHS. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE OTHER DAY MY TIRE SHREDDED AND THE TREAD ALMOST CAME OFF THE WHEEL. GOT THE SAME TIRE ON OPPOSITE BACK WHEEL, HAVE NO ISSUES AT ALL WITH IT.
DRIVING IN A NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT HOME, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE ABOUT 86 DEGREES, DRY DRIVING CONDITIONS. DRIVER BUMPED INTO A CONCRETE CURB UPON TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY AND TIRE BLEW OUT, TIRE SIDEWALL COMPLETELY SEPARATING FROM TIRE TREAD. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR LAST YEAR WITH 140,000 MILES ON IT. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT AND SEATBELT LIGHT BOTH CAME ON AFTER MAYBE A MONTH OF DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO THE BMW SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT IT CAME ON BECAUSE I HAD SOMETHING HEAVY SITTING IN THE SEAT---NOTHING HEAVIER THAN MY PURSE. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME A DIAGNOSIS FEE TO TURN THE LIGHT OFF BUT I REFUSED. THAT IS NOT A CAUTION IN THE HANDBOOK SO HOW WAS I SUPPOSE TO KNOW THAT WAS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM SOMEONE. THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION SIGNAL ON COMPUTER HAS COME ON, THE BRAKE PAD MALFUNCTION WARNING HAS ALSO COME ON, ALONG WITH THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION! I HAVE TRIED TO HAVE BMW HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THE PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT, TO NO AVAIL! I HAVE ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISOR SEVERAL TIMES, THEY ARE SAYING I NEEDED TO PAY TO HAVE THIS DONE, ALTHOUGH IT WAS STILL UNDER THE TERMS OF 10 YEAR RULE! THE LIGHT AND BRAKES ARE FINE, HOWEVER I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY THE COMPUTER SAYS OTHERWISE, UNLESS THERE ARE SOME UNDETERMINED PROBLEMS. THE BRAKES AND SENSOR HAVE BEEN REPLACED! WHEN THE BATTERY WAS CHANGED IN THE CAR, THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION, NOR HAS IT BEEN IN ANY KIND OF WRECK. AN AIRBAG LIGHT AND PASSENGER RESTRAINT LIGHT IS NOW ON. BMW SAYS IT IS NOT UNDER RECALL.
I HAVE A 05 BMW 530I WITH SPORT PACKAGE AND I GOT AN ERROR WITH THE PASSENGER RESTRAIN SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. ON APRIL 11, 2015. I WAS TAKING MY VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC TO GET IT SERVICED AFTER SITTING ALL WINTER. AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER, COULD NOT LOCATE THE SOURCE. I CONTINUED TO MY MECHANIC. ONCE THERE WE OPENED THE TRUNK, WE NOTICED AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. WE TOOK OUT THE TIRE AND NOTICED WATER IN THE WHEEL WELL, WHICH MADE AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT SPARKING, SMOKING AND ON FIRE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO BMW. THEY STATED THE WATER DAMAGED THE MICRO POWER MODULE. BMW PAID FOR THE REPAIRS, AND RELOCATED THE MODULE AWAY FROM THE WHEEL WELL. I FEEL WHERE IT WAS PLACED PREVIOUS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. IF I HAD ANY COMBUSTIBLE ITEM IN MY TRUNK MY BMW WOULD HAVE FULLY CAUGHT FIRE. BMW SHOULD RECALL ALL VEHICLE AND RELOCATION ANY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT CAN BE DAMAGED BY WATER, POSSIBLY CATCH FIRE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS
