The car was making a strange noise when the starter was engaged. The local BMW dealer discovered the starter motor bolts had "backed themselves out" of their mounting, which resulted in the starter motor shifting. The shift resulted in the starter motor contacting the transmission bell housing and cracking the transmission case. The shift also damaged the flywheel; specifically, some teeth on the flywheel are damaged. The car has 60,000 miles on the odometer and has been in service 72 months. The car has only been serviced by BMW, and they deny ever working on the starter motor. The car now requires a new transmission, a new flywheel and a new starter motor assembly. If the starter had broken away at highway speeds it could cause a chain reaction mechanical failure and could have caused an accident.
2019 BMW GT640I ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS HAS STOPPED ABRUPTLY. 1) ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING MY VEHICLE STOPPED AS IF I HIT SOMETHING CAR RESTARTED SECONDS LATER. 2) DRIVING DOWN THE STREET VEHICLE CONTROL PANEL STATED OBSTRUCTION BUT NOTHING WAS AROUND THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE STOPPED WOULD'NT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD HAD TO TURN VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART TWICE. 3) DRIVING MADE A LANE CHANGE AND VEHICLE STOPPED/BREAKING ABRUPTLY NO OTHER VEHICLE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I FEAR FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVES SAFTEY I HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY SAID NOTHINGS WRONG BUT ASKED DURING THE INSPECTION WAS THE VEHICLE EVER IN AN ACCIDENT I TOLD THEM KNOW ITS A BRAND-NEW VEHICLE, I ASKED WHY HE MADE THAT STATEMENT HE SAID IT APPEARS TO HAVE EXTRA PAINT OR SOMETHING ON ONE OF THE SENSORS.
