TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES BUT THEY FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,550 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,660. *TR
IN REGARD TO NHTSA 13V-564, MY 2007 BMW X5 HAS THE SAME FRONT PASSENGER SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE ISSUE. A WARNING LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME I START THE CAR THAT SAYS SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION OR SEATBELT TENSION SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THIS MUST BE A DEFECT, AS I HAVE LESS THAT 40,000 MILES AND HARDLY EVER HAVE A PASSENGER. THE RECALL WAS ISSUED IN DECEMBER 2013 AND REFERENCES UP TO 2006 BMW X5S AS HAVING THE DEFECTIVE PART. CAN YOU PLEASE EXTEND THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE 2007 BMW X5S? IF YOU WOULD LIKE OR NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANK YOU. *TR
IT WAS THE NIGHT OF INDEPENDENCE DAY 2012, IT HAD RAINED MODERATELY HARD EARLIER IN THE DAY. WHEN I STARTED MY 2007 BMW X5 3.0SI TO DRIVE HOME, I WAS GREETED WITH A BUNCH OF WARNINGS AND ERRORS ON BOTH MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND NAVIGATION DISPLAY. THE MOST MAJOR ONE READ "ELECTRONIC SYSTEM MALFUNCTION: TAKE TO NEAREST BMW CENTER." THE ABS LIGHT WAS ALSO LIT UP. SINCE IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT, THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED AND SO I PROCEEDED TO TRY TO DRIVE HOME. ON THE DRIVE HOME, I NOTICED THAT MY A/C SYSTEM SHUT ITSELF OFF AND THAT MY TURN SIGNALS WERE EXTREMELY LAGGY & AT TIMES, WERE NOT EVEN TURNING ON ' A REAL TRAFFIC HAZARD. FORTUNATELY, I MADE IT HOME, BUT TURNING THE CAR OFF WAS TRICKY BECAUSE EACH TIME, ODDLY, THE LIGHTS INSIDE THE CAR AND AMBIENT LIGHTING ON DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CAR WERE STILL LIT EVEN WHEN I REMOVED THE KEYFOB AND LOCKED THE CAR. EXAMPLES INCLUDE THE RADIO UNIT, THE ENGINE START BUTTON. THE NEXT MORNING, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED ME $200+ JUST TO PERFORM DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR. THEY ENDED UP FINDING NOTHING AND SUGGESTED THAT I PAY MORE FOR THEM TO TAKE OFF THE TWO FRONT SEATS AND INSPECT THE WIRES UNDER THE CARPET IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR (I FOUND OUT THAT THIS BECAUSE THEY KNEW ABOUT NHTSA ITEM #: 10032845 / SERVICE BULLETIN # SIB-61-13-07). I DECLINED BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ALL FOR THEM TO NOT BE ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING AGAIN. AS OF JULY 28, 2012, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE STILL OCCURS AFTER A MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINSTORM. I BELIEVE (ALONG WITH MANY BMW X5 OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE) THAT IT HAS TO DO WITH A FAULTY DRAINAGE PIPE RELATING TO THE PANORAMIC MOONROOF, WHICH ALLOWS FOR WATER TO LEAK INSIDE THE CAR AND SCREW UP THE CAR'S WIRING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. THIS IS SOMETHING BMW SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR & REPAIR AT NO COST. WHY SHOULD I PAY TO RESOLVE A DESIGN FLAW THAT BMW MADE!?? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONLY THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR COULD BE OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VACUUM PUMP 11667545384 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS LEAKING OIL. OIL CAUSED INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE, MAKING VEHICLE UNSAFE. THE RECALL 13V-045 ISSUED IN 2013 CALLED FOR VACUUM PIPE CHANGE AND NOT THE FAULTY VACUUM PUMP. VACUUM PUMP NEEDS TO BE PART OF THE RECALL. *TR
BMW RECALLED X5 FROM 2008-2011 FOR WATER PUMP FAILURE. MY X5 IS 2007 AND IT IS IDENTICAL MODEL AS 2008-2011 BMW X5. SAME DESIGN AND SAME WATER PUMP PART. HOWEVER BMW MANUFACTURER SAID IT WILL NOT BE COVERED BY RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT 2008-2011 MODEL. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE THAT THEY DO NOT RECALL 2007 X5 EVEN IF IT IS IDENTICAL CAR TO 2008-2011 BMW X5. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD FAILED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON BROKE WITH A SINGLE FINGER PULL. VERY POOR QUALITY PLASTIC TRIM. EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM CANNOT USED UNLESS REPLACE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION MECHATRONIC SEALING SLEEVE LEAKED FLUID AND LEFT PUDDLE OF OIL/FLUID ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS SHOWED ENGINE OIL LEAK AND EVENTUALLY CONCLUDED IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK RECENTLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE LEAKED THE FLUID DURING A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THAT WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT LEAKED ALREADY. THE TRANSMISSION IS A SEALED UNIT AND OWNER HAS NO WAY TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL VIA A DIPSTICK OR ANY MEAN. THE AUTOMATIC SENSOR SYSTEM ONLY CHECKS ENGINE OIL, BRAKE FLUID, POWER STEERING FLUID, ETC BUT NOT REPORTS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. SO, THERE IS NO WAY ANY BMW OWNER WOULD KNOW IF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS LOW OR TOTALLY EMPTY. THIS WOULD POST SAFETY ISSUE IF A VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN IN A MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DUE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN. FURTHERMORE, BMW HAS PUBLISHED A TECHNICAL SERVICE INFORMATION "SI B 24 08 06" DATED MARCH 2010 FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. BMW DID NOT NOTIFY OWNER TO CHECK THE VEHICLE FOR SIGN OF TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK, NOR ASKED DEALER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE DURING SERVICE VISITS. AS A MATTER OF FACT, MY 2007 X5 HAS NEVER BEEN INSPECTED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT CLEARLY HAD THIS PROBLEM! CONSIDERING IT IS A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE, THIS PROBLEM SHOULD NOT EXIST NORMALLY. THUS, THE WORKMANSHIP OR MATERIAL BMW USED IN THE (TRANSMISSION) ASSEMBLY FACTORY HAS POOR QUALITY AND CAUSES THIS SAFETY CONCERN. THERE WAS A SAYING IF A VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TOO MUCH, OR A VEHICLE WAS SITTING THERE OR NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, IT WOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM. SUCH A SAYING SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR OF DESIGN OR QUALITY CONTROL OF BMW (OR ANY) VEHICLE AND I URGE BMW RECALLS ALL VEHICLE TO CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION LEAK DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND PAYS FOR ALL NECESSARY REPAIR. *TR
ON 13 JULY, 2011, WITH ONLY 56,201 MILES, OUR BMW X5 SUFFERED WHAT AN INDEPENDENT BMW AUTO REPAIR SHOP LATER DIAGNOSED AS A "TOTAL ELECTRICAL MELTDOWN INVOLVING ALMOST ALL POWERTRAIN COMPONENTS AND DATA BUS SYSTEM." *TT SYMPTOMS UPON STARTUP THAT MORNING INCLUDED A LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION LIGHT, A TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION WARNING, A PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION WARNING, A PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION WARNING, AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE, DSC, ABS, AND EMERGENCY ABV MALFUNCTION WARNING, AS WELL AS RAPID WINDSHIELD WIPER MOVEMENT AND AN INTERMITTENT ENGINE START BUTTON. I AM AN OFFICER IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY, ON ACTIVE DUTY, AND I DEPLOYED THAT MORNING FOR ALMOST SIX WEEKS; I HAVE RECENTLY RETURNED. THE BURDEN OF COORDINATING AN AUTOMOBILE TOW AND REPAIR THAT DAY WAS LEFT TO MY WIFE, THE MOTHER OF OUR TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. TO SAY THAT THIS WAS AN INCONVENIENCE TO HER IS A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT. WE PURCHASED THE BMW BASED ON ITS PREVIOUS REPUTATION FOR QUALITY, AND WE PAID MUCH MORE FOR THIS VEHICLE THAN WE WOULD HAVE FOR SOMETHING LIKE A HONDA ODYSSEY OR A TOYOTA SIENNA. WE WERE WILLING TO PAY MORE WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT, DURING MY LONG AND FREQUENT ABSENCES IN THE SERVICE OF OUR COUNTRY, MY WIFE AND FAMILY WOULD HAVE A RELIABLE AND SAFE VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS DECISION TO PURCHASE THIS BMW PRODUCT WAS A MISTAKE, AND ONE I NEVER INTEND TO REPEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 6,000 MILES OUTSIDE OF THE 50,000 MILE WARRANTY, AND YET NONE OF THE $1,781.31 INVOICE WAS COVERED BY BMW; IT WAS COVERED SOLELY BY MY SAVINGS. I CAN NOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE RECOMMEND ANY BMW PRODUCT TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS OR COLLEAGUES.
ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ALLOY WHEEL DEVELOPED A FULL THICKNESS CRACK ON THE SUPPORT SPOKE. THIS WAS UNDER ROUTINE DRIVING CONDITIONS AND NOT FOUND AFTER AN ACCIDENT. FOUND ON ROUTINE OWNER INSPECTION. CAR HAS 49,000 MILES. SUSPECT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT GIVEN NORMAL LOCAL AND HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE ALLOY WHEEL WAS REPLACED WITH BMW REPLACEMENT AT MY EXPENSE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. PHOTOS AND ORIGINAL WHEEL AVAILABLE. *TR
THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT OF PROBLEMS CAUSED BY WATER INTRUSION OF MY 2007 BMW X-5. FIRST COMPLAINT WAS THE PASSENGER-SIDE FLOORBOARD CARPET GETTING WET. NOW, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS GETTING WET. MY SATELLITE RADIO RECEIVER WAS DESTROYED BY MOISTURE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM WITH WATER INTRUSION IS TRULY REPAIRABLE OR SHOULD BMW RECALL THESE VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS FAULTY. THE WATER PUMP WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V364000 (AIR BAGS) IN MAY OF 2016. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REMEDY WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE, REAR DIFFERENTIAL WERE DEFECTIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION LEAKED FLUID. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 93,000.

I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM MY BMW DEALER SHOWING THE CORRECT DEPTH. THIS CAR WAS REPRESENTED AS TO HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND ONCE IT ARRIVED IT WAS OBVIOUSLY REPAIRED. IN MAR 2007, I PURCHASED A NEW BMW 2007 X5. SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD TWO MAJOR ISSUES. 1) EMERGENCY PARKING FAILED IN DEC 2007 (LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE) AND 2) MY FAMILY INCLUDING MY ENFANT WAS LOOKED INSIDE OUR VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE VEHICLE WHILE I WENT INSIDE THE STORE. AFTER I GOT BACK TO THE VEHICLE, MY WIFE TOLD ME SHE SAW SERVICE LIGHTS. I TRY TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WOULDNT START. IDRIVE SCREEN FADED IN AND OUT, WINDSHIELD WIPERS MOVED SLOW, AND I SAW VARIOUS SERVICE MESSAGES. IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, ALL DOORS LOCKED. I TRY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND WASNT ABLE TO. MY FAMILY AND I WERE TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITH OUR KIDS. THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS WORKED AS WELL AS THE HORN. I NOTICE THE VEHICLE NEXT TO ME (DRIVERS SIDE) WAS BACKING OUT. I HONKED THE HORN AND BANGED ON THE WINDOW TO GET THE PASSENGERS ATTENTION. SHE WAS NICE ENOUGH TO NOTICE AND HER HUSBAND GOT OUT THE VEHICLE AND CALLED 911. THE GOOD SAMARITAN TRIES TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE FROM THE OUTSIDE WITHOUT ANY LUCK. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO FOG UP AND FELT AS IF THERE WERE NO AIR CIRCULATING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I WAS PARKED IN AN AREA WHICH WAS NOT WELL LIGHTED AND IT WAS DARK AND RAINING OUTSIDE. WITH A DARK INTERIOR AND NO LIGHTS WORKING INSIDE THE VEHICLE, I WASNT ABLE TO SEE FIND THE MANUALLY UNLOCK IN THE BACK TRUNK AREA. ABOUT 8-10 MINUTES IN TO THIS TERRIBLE ORDEAL, THE DOORS UNLOCKED AUTOMATICALLY. BMW SERVICE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND WASNT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM.THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AS MY FAMILY CAN BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND BMW WASNT ABLE TO FIND ANY ISSUE. IF THE BATTERY DIES AGAIN, WE MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE NEXT TIME. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA. THIS NEEDS TO BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED AS OTHERS MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE DUE TO BMW POOR/IMPROPER DESIGN.
ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE TOTALLY LOCK UP THE CAR. THE CAR IS TOTALLY LOCK UP, CAN'T MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. HAVE TO BE TOW ON THE TOW TRUCK BED TO THE DEALER. THEY STATED IT NEEDS TO UPDATE THE CODING ON THE MODULE. THIS RE-OCCUR AGAIN ON 7/3/2013. *TR
COMPLAINT IS OF A 2007 BMW X-5(PURCHASED 6 MONTHS AGO). I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE CARPET IN THE FLOOR BOARD(PASSENGER SIDE) GETS WET. SINCE HAS DISCOVERED THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. BMW ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON NOV. 2008. WOULD LIKE FOR THIS TO BECOME A RECALL ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED DURING RAINY WEATHER, WATER LEAKED INTO THE SATELLITE RADIO RECEIVER MODULE AND CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY INFORMED THE COTNACT THAT THE SATELLITE MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS NOT IN STOCK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD GETS WET. HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN SIX MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP OF VEHICLE. UPDATED 03/10/11 *BF
IN MAY 2007, I PURCHASED A NEW BMW 2007 X5 4.8 VEHICLE. SINCE THEN, I HAVE EXPERIENCED "HIGH BATTERY DRAINAGE" WARNINGS AT LEAST 12 TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE COMPUTER DOESN'T SHOW A HISTORY OF THIS MESSAGE AND IT DOES NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. THE CAR ENGINE ALSO FAILS TO START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS- THE LIGHTS, RADIO AND AIR TURN ON, BUT THE ENGINE DOES NOT. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS, THE ENGINE STARTS. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 12 TIMES SINCE 11/2007 AS WELL- BUT INDEPENDENTLY OF THE "HIGH BATTERY DRAINAGE" WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP FAILS TO FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE STARTING WHEN I TAKE THE CAR IN. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) STAYS LOCKED IN ONE GEAR AND THE ENGINE REVS UP WHILE DRIVING, FAILING TO AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT TO THE NEXT GEAR UNLESS THE DRIVER RELEASES THE GAS PEDAL OR PUSHES THE GAS PEDDLE TO "THROW IT" INTO THE NEXT GEAR. IT WOULD ALSO LURCH ON INCLINES, BUT STOPPED EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM (PERHAPS COINCIDENTALLY) WHEN I REMOVED MY CELLPHONE FROM THE CAR'S BLUETOOTH/HANDS-FREE SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN SAID THAT IT COULD NOT DETECT ANY PROBLEMS. BMW USA IS NO HELP EITHER, SINCE THEY RELY ON THE DEALERSHIPS TO REPORT ISSUES TO THEM. IF THE LOCAL DEALERS AREN'T REPORTING THE ISSUES THAT OWNERS EXPERIENCE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND AN ANSWER, THEN NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE OWNERS AND THEIR PASSENGERS DRIVING THEIR VEHICLES. I BELIEVE A PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM AND PERHAPS SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER PUTTING PARKING BRAKE ON BMW X5 2007, TRIED TO RELEASE PARKING BRAKE. SYSTEM DISPLAYED PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION. WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL A BMW ASSIST SUPERVISOR TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO MANUALLY RELEASE BY PULLING A CABLE IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING A CAR THAT HAS MALFUNCTION BRAKES. *TR
HAVE THEIR BEEN OTHER ENGINE/CAMSHAFT DEFECT COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2007 BMW X5 VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SENSORS ON MY X5 BMW ARE IDENTIFYING THIS AS A POTENTIAL REPAIR JOB AND THE BMW DEALER HAS CONFIRMED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW X5 MINI COOPER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. THERE WAS AN UNINTENDED INCREASE IN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO THE "NEUTRAL" POSITION. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TRAFFIC SIGNAL POLE. THE AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILED TO DEPLOY WITH THE LEVEL OF IMPACT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THERE WERE BODY DAMAGES TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP, THE CAR DOES NOTHING WHEN YOU STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN LUNGES FORWARD. THE SUDDEN BUCKING AND HESITATION MAKES HARD TO CONTROL THE CAR ESPECIALLY IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. I LIVE IN A SUBURB OF NEW YORK CITY AND I DRIVE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AT 5 TIMES EVERY WEEK. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME YOU ACCELERATE, BUT MOSTLY WHEN THE CAR IS HOT, LIKE IN TRAFFIC. THE CAR PERFORMS FINE WHEN IT IS COLD. THE DEALER HAS EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM, AND THE CAR HAS IMPROVED, BUT IT IS STILL BAD WHEN IT GETS HOT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVE REFUSE TO DO MORE THAN DRIVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND THE LAST TIME IT WAS THERE THEY DROVE IT WHILE IT WAS COLD AND IT WAS OK. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THEM SIX (6) TIMES AND THEY STILL CAN NOT FIX THIS. I THINK THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL IN TRAFFIC AND I AM AFRAID THAT SOMEDAY I MIGHT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN TRAFFIC. I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 BMW X5 IN DECEMBER 2006. DURING THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE CAR I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE PROBLEMS 18 TIMES. SIX OF THOSE TIMES IS FOR "HIGH BATTERY DRAIN". THE CONSEQUENCE IS A CAR THAT MIGHT NOT ALWAYS START. AFTER THREE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT. SINCE THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN TWO MORE TIMES WITH THE SAME BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW TELLING ME I HAVE BATTERY PROBLEMS BECAUSE I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR ENOUGH. BMW RECOMMENDS YOU DRIVE THE CAR AT LEAST 7,500 MILES PER YEAR FOR PROPER BATTERY OPERATION. I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR 12,000 A YEAR, EXCEEDING WHAT THEY RECOMMEND. I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS VEHICLE IN FOUR TIMES TO FIX A DMTL PUMP PROBLEM. BMW NORTH AMERICA SUGGESTED THAT THE BATTERY DRAIN HAS ALSO CAUSED THE DMTL PUMP NOT TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE DMTL PUMP PROBLEM WAS A RESULT OF A LOOSE CONNECTION, THEN A GAS CAP LEAK, THEN THE VENT VALVE STICKING OPEN AND LASTLY SAID ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT TO FIX IT THAT THE DMTL PUMP JUST DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND REPLACED IT. WHAT IS IT??? I DO NOT RECEIVE THE SAME ANSWERS FROM BMW NORTH AMERICA VERSUS THE DEALERSHIP. I ALSO INVESTIGATED A WEB FORUM PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE AND FOUND DOZENS OF OTHER BMW OWNERS WITH THE SAME "HIGH BATTERY DRAIN" PROBLEM. THE BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM IS NOT BECAUSE "YOU DO NOT PUT ENOUGH MILES ON YOUR CAR" AS BMW CLAIMS. IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. *TR

THE CONTACT SPECULATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED FROM A SHUTDOWN OF THE COMPUTER, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY CAUSED THE TRACTION CONTROL TO FAIL. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS FORWARDED TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,020. IN JULY 2007 I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW, FULLY LOADED 2007 BMW X5 4.8. BACK THEN, IT WAS MY DREAM CAR. NOW, IT IS A NIGHTMARE. FROM THE BEGINNING, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED DIFFERENT MINOR ISSUES WITH THE CAR (DVD PLAYER NOT WORKING, FOR EXAMPLE) THAT THE DEALERSHIP FIXED. HOWEVER, ONCE WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING, THAT WAS NO LONGER A "MINOR" ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR DID NOT START WAS AROUND THANKSGIVING IN 2008, ONLY A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER I HAD PURCHASE MY CAR. BY THE SUMMER OF 2009, THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND HALF THE TIME THE CAR WOULD NOT START. WE FINALLY TOOK THE CAR IN (NOV 2009) AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THE BATTERY WAS DEATH, AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AT NO CHARGE (WARRANTY). EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL MARCH 26, 2011, WHEN I WAS READY TO LEAVE AND MY CAR DID NOT START. AT THIS POINT, I WAS SO FRUSTRATED THAT I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I DID NOT WANT A CAR THAT DOESN'T WORK PARKED IN MY GARAGE, SO I WAS GOING TO DROP IT OFF. IT WAS A SATURDAY, SO I DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, ONLY TO TELL ME THAT THE BATTERY WAS VERY LOW AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING HABITS, BECAUSE MOST OF MY TRIPS ARE VERY SHORT (LESS THAN 5 MI) TRIPS. I ASKED THEM IF I NEEDED TO CHANGE MY DRIVING HABITS IN ORDER FOR MY CAR TO WORK, AND THEY SAID "HMM, YEAH". REALLY??? TO TOP IT OFF, SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED DUE TO MY "DRIVING HABITS", I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BATTERY. I BELIEVE THE DESIGN OF THE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS PROBLEMS. NO CAR, ESPECIALLY NO HIGH END CAR, SHOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE "IT IS NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH". DID BMW ENGINEERS FINISHED THE DESIGN AND SAID, IT IS DONE, BUT IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU DRIVE IT ENOUGH!. BMW NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND STOP BLAMING THE CAR OWNERS FOR THEIR POOR DESIGN.

TL-CALLER OWNS A 2007 BMW X5. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 650. DRIVING AT NIGHT AT 50MPH THE CAR BEHIND HIM HAD VERY BRIGHT LIGHTS. HE REACHED TO PUSH THE DIMMER ON THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED THAT THERE IS NO DIMMER SWITCH. SPOKE WITH DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT REARVIEW DIMMER IS NOT STANDARD AND TO GET REARVIEW MIRROR DIMMER YOU HAVE TO GET A PACKAGE THAT IS AN ADDITIONAL $4,000.00. KTF UPDATED 06/06/07. *JB
