THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERIM REPAIR UNTIL THE PERMANENT REPAIR SOLUTION BECAME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. TAKATA RECALL HAVE A RECALL FROM 3/16 FOR THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG. HAVE A RECALL FROM 3/17 FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG. BMW REPEATEDLY STATES THEY HAVE NO PARTS. RECEIVED RECALL 4/17 FOR FAULTY UNIVERSAL JOINTS. DRIVESHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BMW STATES NO PARTS AVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL: I RECEIVED MY LETTER NOTIFYING ME OF THE RECALL MARCH 2016. THE DATE FOR REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN PUSHED OUT FROM BY THE END OF 2016 TO MARCH 2017 AND WHEN I CALLED IN MAY 2017 I WAS ADVISED THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG ALSO HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE CURRENT REPLACEMENT TIME IS NOW SEPTEMBER FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AND DECEMBER FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE WHEN THE REPLACEMENT CONTINUES TO BE EXTENDED.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER A YEAR. FOR THE NEW REPLACEMENT AIR BAG. EVERY TIME I CONTACT THE HENDRICK BMW DEALER IN CHARLOTTE, NC FROM WHO I PURCHASED THE CAR, THEY TELL ME THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AS IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR. SINCE I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION.

TAKATA RECALL IT'S BEEN MORE THAN 1 YEAR SINCE RECALL HAPPENED FOR MY VEHICLE, AND AFTER REPEATED CONTACTS WITH THE DEALER, THEY ARE STILL NOT REPLACING MY AIR BAG!
I RECEIVED AN INTIAL LETTER BACK ON 2/5/16 THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER A YEAR AND ALL I RECEIVE IS LETTERS LETTING ME KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL. I THINK THAT THE STATEMENT "EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE COULD CAUSE RUPTURE...RESULTING IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE PASSENGER OR OTHER OCCUPANTS...POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH", IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE FIXED IN A MORE REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME. OVER A YEAR IS TOO LONG AND I BELIEVE THAT BMW NEEDS TO MAKE AN ALTERNATE PLAN IF THIS IS NOT/OR CAN'T BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY. I TAKE/PICK UP MY AND OTHER'S CHILDREN ON A DAILY BASIS AND REQUIRE THE USE OF THE FRONT SEAT. I DON'T FEEL SAFE KNOWING THAT THIS BMW'S SAFETY EQUIPTMENT IS NOT SAFE. IN THE LATEST LETTER I RECEIVED IT STATED THAT IF BMW WAS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT IN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME TO NOTIFY THE NHTSA - THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING.
I AM STILL WAITING ON THIS ISSUE TO BE FIXED. I CANNOT EVEN GET A FAIR TRADE IN VALUE ON THE VEHICLE WHILE THIS RECALL REMAINS OPEN. I HAVE BEEN WAITING NEARLY A YEAR NOW. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. MY VEHICLE HAS AN ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK MECHANISM THAT DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE UNLOCKED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN DRIVING AND IS SUPPOSED TO UNLOCK WHEN THE INSIDE HANDLE IS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR; HOWEVER, IT WILL NOT UNLOCK AND THOUGH BMW IS AWARE OF THIS MALFUNCTION (IT IS A COMMONLY KNOWN DEFECT), THEY WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE DEALER TO REPAIR. I FEEL THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY THE DRIVER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR LOCKS WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING BUT WILL NOT UNLOCK AFTER THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK.
"TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL" WE WERE ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM OVER 1 YEAR AGO BY OUR BMW SERVICE ADVISOR AND WE APPLIED FOR A NEW REPLACEMENT AT THAT TIME. WE LIVE IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA AND THE CAR IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE SUN ALL THE TIME. I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD THAT IS ROUTINELY A RIDER IN THIS CAR AND WE FEEL THAT THE BAG SHOULD BE REPLACED OR DISCONNECTED UNTIL A REPLACEMENT BAG CAN BE INSTALLED. I HAVE CALLED MY DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND HAVE ALSO CONTACTED BMW CORPORATE ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL BE FIXED! THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO ME OR MY FAMILY IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE USED OUT 2012 BMW X5 DIESEL FOR A ROUND TRIP OF MN TO FL. OCTOBER OF 2015. WE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING WE NEEDED TO BE AWARE OF FOR THE LONG TRIP. UPON RETURN TRIP BACK TO MN WE WERE ALERTED BY THE SYSTEM MONITOR THAT THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) WAS LOW. WE WERE 5 HOURS INTO OUR 18 HOUR TRIP FROM FL TO MN. IT WAS SATURDAY AFTER 1:00 PM AND WE STOPPED TO ADD DEF TO THE SYSTEM. THE FILL PORT ON THE X5 WOULD ONLY ACCEPT 4 OZ OF DEF WITH REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO FILL THE RESERVOIR. WE USED THE INTERNET TO SEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT WITH OUT THE BMW CONTAINER OF DEF THE RESERVOIR WOULD NOT ACCEPT ENOUGH DEF TO FILL THE SYSTEM. WE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. THE BMW MANUAL DID NOT STATE THAT THE BMW BOTTLE WAS NEEDED NOR THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. WE COULD NOT PURCHASE THE BMW BOTTLE AS NO BMW DEALERSHIPS WERE OPEN, NOR WOULD THEY BE THE NEXT DAY. THE BMW SYSTEM ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN AFTER THE 200 MILE LIMIT WAS REACHED. WE HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT IN OUR CURRENT LOCATION AND THEN DRIVE 12 HOURS THE NEXT DAY, SUNDAY, WITH OUT SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AS IF WE DID THE BMW OVERRIDE WOULD SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND WE VERIFIED THAT FACT ON THE WEB. WE MADE IT HOME AND AS SOON AS WE SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN IT WAS DISABLED. WE PURCHASED THE BMW DEF BOTTLE AND FILLED THEY RESERVOIRS. THE SYSTEM DID NOT REST AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT TOOK THEM 3 DAYS TO RESET THE SYSTEM AND THEN DISCOVER THE O2 SENSORS WERE NOW NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE DEF ISSUE. COST OF THE O2 SENSOR REPLACEMENT IS $2000.00. THE SYSTEM WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED.BMW'S OWNER MANUAL IS INCORRECT AND NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED THE BMW ENGINEERED DEF BOTTLE TO REFILL THEY SYSTEM. WE CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA WITHOUT ANY RESULTS.
MY CAR MADE GRINDING / WHIRLING NOISE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL MORE THAN HALF WAY. THE NOISE WAS ON AND OFF FOR SOME TIME DURING PARTING LOT SPEED TURNING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I TOOK THE CAR TO A BMW REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC SAID THE TRANSFER CASE AND SHAFT WERE DAMAGED AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. IT COST AN ASTRONOMICAL $4,716.34 TO REPAIR THE ISSUES. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AMONG BMW X5 AND X3 AND I WAS VERY UNLUCKY TO HAVE IT AT 69K MILES. I AGREE WITH THE UNLUCKY PART. BMW SHOULD OWN UP THE ISSUE AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR.

THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO MORE TIMES, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO VALENCIA BMW AND GIVEN AN UNKNOWN DIAGNOSIS AND UNKNOWN REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD TRY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, BUT THAT IT WOULD TAKE TIME TO REVIEW THE CASE; HOWEVER, A CASE MANAGER WOULD BE IN TOUCH. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK, THE VEHICLE SAT FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. AFTER ABOUT A DOZEN ATTEMPTS, VEHICLE RESTARTED, BUT THIS TIME WITH NO ERROR MESSAGES OR DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS. AFTER SEVERAL ADDITIONAL STALLS, VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT THIS TIME WITH THE VEHICLE INFORMATION DISPLAY INDICATING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND ADDITIONAL WORDING STATING "REDUCED POWER AVAILABLE" (LIMP HOME MODE) AND "SAFE TO DRIVE". BASED ON THE MESSAGE AND THE FACT THE CAR RESTARTED, I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME. ON THE HIGHWAY (LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY) WHILE APPROACHING HIGHWAY SPEEDS (45 MPH) THE ENGINE AGAIN SHOOK VIOLENTLY, STUMBLED, AND SHUT OFF LEAVING NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. UNFORTUNATELY, A TRACTOR TRAILOR WAS BEARING DOWN ON MY POSITION FROM THE REAR AND NEARLY STRUCK MY VEHICLE, DUE TO THE SUDDEN POWER LOSS AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. BEYOND THE FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (PER BMW DEALERSHIP), THE VEHICLE INFORMATION SYSTEM IS FLAWED AS IT DID NOT REMEMBER THE FIRST CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND INSTEAD RESET ITSELF. IT ADVISED ALTHOUGH THERE WAS AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH REDUCED POWER AVAILABLE. A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE EVENT LIKE THAT SHOULD RESULT IN A WARNING AND ADVISEMENT NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE REAR READING LAMPS IN THE VEHICLE HAVE NO PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE HALOGEN BULBS AND ARE LOCATED RIGHT NEXT TO THE ON/OFF SWITCH MAKING IT FAR TO EASY FOR CHILDREN IN A MOVING VEHICLE TO ACCIDENTALLY TOUCH AN EXTREMELY HOT BULB. THEIR EITHER NEEDS TO BE A PROTECTIVE COVER OR THE BULBS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH SOME LIKE AN LED THAT GENERATES FAR LESS HEAT. *TR

I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION, AND AS I APPROACHED THE PUMP AND PUT ON BRAKES, I HEARD A CRACK. AFTER I PUMPED MY GAS, I STARTED MY CAR, AND A BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH AN INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A "CHARGING ERROR". I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE OFF, BUT I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. MY HUSBAND LOOKED ON THE HOOD, AND NOTED THAT A BELT WAS HANGING DOWN AND FLUID WAS SPEWED EVERYWHERE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. MY INVOICE INDICATES THAT THE ALTERNATOR TENSIONER BOLT WAS BROKEN THAT CONNECTED THE ALTERNATOR BELT TO THE ENGINE (?) AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS TROUBLING BECAUSE THIS BOLT WAS A REPLACEMENT BOLT. THAT IS, WHEN I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED IN DECEMBER 2012, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON AN ALUMINUM BOLT, AND MY INVOICE FROM THAT SERVICE VISIT INDICATES THAT THE "ALTERNATOR PULLEY BOLT" WAS REPLACED. I AM TROUBLED BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT BOLT WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS THE RECALL ISSUE, BUT THE REPLACEMENT BOLT BROKE IN THE EXACT MANNER THAT THE RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT.
