MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A SUMMER VACATION AND WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD ALMOST GUN SHOT SOUND. WE WERE SURROUNDED BY TONS OF HUGE 18 WHEELERS SO WE ASSUMED SOMETHING FROM ONE OF THE TRUCKS HIT US. AS WE KEPT DRIVING, WE KEPT HEARING NOISES SO WE PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AROUND THE WHOLE CAR BUT DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING, UNTIL THE PASSENGER LOOKED UP AND SAW THAT THE SUN ROOF WAS SHATTERED. LUCKILY THE INSIDE OF OUR SUNROOF HAS TINY, SO IT WAS KIND OF STAYING TOGETHER. SINCE WE WERE ON THE ROAD, FAR FROM HOME MY DAD FOUND SOME CLEAR TAPE AND TAPED BOTH SIDES OF THE ROOF, SO THAT THE GLASS WOULDN'T FALL ON THEM DURING THE DRIVE. LUCKILY IT DID NOT RAIN, OR OUR TRIP WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY RUINED. WE STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH THE ROOF TO THIS DAY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS REPLACED WHEN WE GOT HOME. IT LEAKS
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY RPM'S WERE GOING UP BUT CAR WAS HARDLY MOVING. WE COULD HAVE BEEN HIT! AFTER CHECKING ON-LINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM FOR THE 2008 ENCLAVE. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL? I BELIEVE NO-ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH A COSTLY PROBLEM BUT SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT.....WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WILL NOT STOP HERE....I AM HOPING SOMEONE WILL ACTUALLY READ AND RESPOND TO ME. *TR
FRIDAY DEC 26TH AT 4:30 PM I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON I-35 WHEN I HAD A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THERE WERE NO ALARMS, LIGHTS, NOISES, SMELLS OR ANYTHING ELSE TO ALERT ME TO THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO FAIL. AS I MERGED MY RPM'S SUDDENLY WENT PAST 5000 AND MY 2008 ENCLAVE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. BY THE GRACE OF GOD THERE WAS NO LOSS OF LIFE, MINE OR THE OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME, AS MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT THE SITUATION DESCRIBED ABOVE IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT. LIKE SO MANY OTHERS BEFORE ME MY VEHICLE (AT 80,000 MILES) WAS DIAGNOSED WITH WAVE PLATE FAILURE (P0776). I HAVE CALLED GM AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT'S DUE TO A FAULTY PART, BUT THEIR RESPONSE IS TO DENY, DENY, DENY. THE MANAGER I SPOKE TO STATED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL SO GM IS NOT OBLIGATED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE MOST DISTRESSING PART OF THIS SITUATION IS NOT THE $3500.00 I'LL BE PAYING AFTER GM'S "ASSISTANCE". IT IS THE FACT THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE GM WAVE PLATE. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CHANCE TO FIX IT BEFORE I WAS PUT IN SUCH A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS LIKE A TICKING TIME BOMB. THANKFULLY, THE "BOMB" GOING OFF IN MY ENCLAVE DIDN'T RESULT IN ANY CASUALTIES, BUT IS THAT WHAT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO GET A RECALL? I HOPE THAT NHTSA DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *JS
WHILE BRAKING AGGRESSIVELY DURING HEAVY RAIN, RAINWATER POURED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLINER ONTO THE DASH. RAINWATER HAS BEEN LEAKING INTO THE CAR FOR THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS. THIS ISSUE WAS APPARENTLY REPAIRED THREE (3) PRIOR TIMES IN 2008, BUT HAS RECURRED. GENERAL MOTORS HAS ONLY OFFERED ME ONE FREE HOUR OF DIAGNOSIS TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE REGARDING DRIVER VISIBILITY, DISTRACTING THE DRIVER AND COULD EFFECT MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLES DASH DUE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF RAINWATER. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. TRANSMISSION LOSES POWER WHILE SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR, THEN ABRUPTLY JERKS INTO GEAR. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 64,000 MILES. *TR
THE 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE HAVE A MODULE AIR BAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT WHEN A PASSENGER SETS IN THE SEAT THE AIR BAG INTERCATOR LIGHT IN CENTER CONSUL LIGHTS UP LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THE AIR BAG IS ON AND WORKING. MY AIR BAG MODULE SENSOR NEEDS REPLACING. I WAS TOLD FROM DEALERSHIP THAT THE SEAT WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN OUT TO REPLACE THIS PART WHICH WILL COST 850.00. PEOPLE JUST DON'T HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY. THE BUICK ENCLAVES ESPECIALLY THE 2008 MODEL HAVE HAD NUMEROUS RECALLS.I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BUICK SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE TO INSURE OUR SAFETY. IF NOT, THERE WILL BE THOSE ON THE ROAD DRIVING WITHOUT THE PROPER SAFETY THEY NEED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A PART THAT WAS CHEAP MADE AND BUICK KNOWS IT AND THEY SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THE CUSTOMERS SAFETY. WILL YOU PLEASE REVIEW THIS CASE. DEC. 2014....WIPERS WOULD STOP WITH NO WARNING...WHICH WOULD CAUSE ME NOT TO SEE WERE I WAS DRIVING RAIN OR SNOW, AT THE TIME, NO DEALER WAS ABLE TO HELP DUE TO WORK LOADS.....SO I HAD IT FIX FROM A TECH OTHER THAN A GM TECH..(WHICH SOME GM TECH SHOULD NOT BE) ANYWAY.....IT WAS THE WIPER TRANS WAS CORRODED THAT'S WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM...THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM TO HAVE,....DUE TO NOT HAVING GM TECH WORK ON IT I WAS TOLD THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME. THE TAILGATE/LIFTGATE IS BROKEN FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED WAS WHEN IT HAD ONLY 40,403 MILES. NOW, IT IS BROKEN AGAIN AT 77,000. THE HATCH WILL GO UP AUTOMATICALLY, BUT DOESN'T HOLD SO IT COMES CRASHING DOWN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! AM I TO EXPECT THAT EVERY 30,000-40,000 IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOR MONTHS THE REAR LIFTGATE RANDOMLY FELL DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V415000 (STRUCTURE:BODY) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V118000 (AIR BAGS) AND THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE REAR LIFTGATE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
JUST BOUGHT THE CAR ON THURSDAY. TODAY IS SUNDAY AND WE HAD A LIGHT RAIN. I HAD TO RUN TO THE STORE AND NOTICED WATER RUNNING ALL OVER THE SEATS AND THE DASH. THE CAR IS LEAKING ALL OVER. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN TOMORROW MORNING. *TR
CHECK ENGINE/EMISSIONS CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AS WE WERE DRIVING. STOPPED ABOUT A HALF HOUR LATER TO PUT GAS IN, AS WE WERE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO GO (NO POWER, NO SHIFT). AS WE WERE LEAVING THE STATION, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 3RD YEAR, RPMS WERE AT 4000 AT ONLY 40MPH. DROVE HOME AND LATER DROVE IT TO THE MECHANIC. DROVE FINE THEN, BUT THE RPM GAUGE WAS FLUCTUATING. MECHANIC READ THE CODES AS 716 AND 717. TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND IT DID THE SAME THING, WOULDN'T SHIFT. TRANS MECHANIC STATES ITS THE CLUTCH WAVE PLATE THAT PROBABLY BROKE AND MAGNETIC PIECES ATTACHED TO THE SENSOR CAUSING IT TO GO INTO A LIMP MODE. APPROXIMATE COST TO REPLACE THE $20 PART (WAVE PLATE) WILL BE IN THE UPPER $2000! RIDICULOUS. I'M LOSING MY FAITH IN GM VEHICLES. PER A WEB SEARCH, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ENCLAVE, ACADIA, OUTLOOK AND TRAVERSE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! *TR
DURING ACCELERATION ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, CAR LURCHED AND LOST POWER. EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN TO AVOID COLLISION WITH BIG RIG TRUCKS HAULING LARGE HAY LOADS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.TOLD BY SHOP THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. GEAR 3,5 AND REVERSE WERE AFFECTED BY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CLUTCH FAILURE. VEHICLE ONLY HAD 72500 MILES ON IT. HAVE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WHO STATED THEIR TRANSMISSIONS IN LIKE VEHICLES ALSO FAILED WELL SHORT OF 100,000 MILES. DANGER TO DRIVER AND PASSENGERS DUE TO SUDDEN LURCH AND LOSS OF POWER. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING I WAS JUST COASTING. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE AND WENT ABOUT A BLOCK THEN LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THE 3-5 CLUTCH FAILED. SOME METAL PIECES IN THE TRANSMISSION COME LOOSE. WHEN THE CAR COOLS DOWN THEY SETTLE AND THE GEAR MAY WORK. AS IT WARMS UP THEY GET IN THE WAY AGAIN AND THE GEARS STICK. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION OR A REBUILT ONE. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE PUTTING IN ANOTHER 2008 TRANSMISSION BUT THAT THE PART THAT FAILED HAD BEEN CORRECTED. I ASKED THEM TO CONTACT GM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COST BUT THEY WOULD ONLY COVER HALF OF THE COST. I AM THANKFUL FOR THAT BUT I FEEL THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO A 2008 CAR WITH 96,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD BEEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE DAY PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING AND THE VERY NEXT TIME I DROVE THE CAR THIS HAPPENED. IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. SO I WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR EIGHT DAYS. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 67,000 MILES, THE RPMS IN MY 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE STARTED GOING WACKY AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. IT FELT LIKE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, SO I TOOK MY ENCLAVE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. TURNED OUT THE 35R WAVE PLATE WAS BROKEN -- DEBRIS THROUGHOUT TRANSMISSION -- AND $2700 LATER THEY RETURNED MY ENCLAVE TO ME WITH A REPAIRED/REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE I WAS NOT REAR-ENDED WHEN MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AS I HAD TO LITERALLY LIMP MY ENCLAVE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I FOUND THAT THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS EXTREMELY WIDESPREAD AMONG OWNERS OF THE 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE, BUT NEITHER NHTSA NOR GM IS MOVING ON INVESTIGATING AND SOLVING THIS PROBLEM. ALL PARTIES SEEM TO BE KICKING THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THEN MAYBE SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN. ISSUE A RECALL NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE !!! *TR
AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AS I ALREADY HAD A LETTER STATING THIS COULD HAPPEN AND IF SO TAKE IT TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER BEING CHECK OUT BY DEALER I WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND THE PROBLEM HOWEVER MY BATTERY CHECK OUT BAD AND THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, SO I PAID THEM TO REPLACE BATTERY. AFTER BATTERY WAS REPLACED THE SERVICE LIGHT WENT OUT, UNTIL 1/13/15 WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HOME AFTER HAVING IT SERVICED BY DEALER THE AIR BAGS SERVICE LIGHT REAPPEARED AND WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO CHECK IT OUT AT MY COST WHICH I SAID NOT KNOWING WHAT THE COST COULD ADD UP TO I WOULD JUST CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITH THE SERVICE LIGHT ON. IN 2012, MY 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE WAS RECALLED DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE AIRBAG. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS #10085. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY FERMAN BUICK ON 11/21/12 AND THE COST OF THE REPAIRS WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. ON NOV 11, 2014, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FERMAN BUICK IN LUTZ FLORIDA BECAUSE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WAS NOT PERFORMING PROPERLY AGAIN. THE DEALER INDICATED THE "PRESENT SENSOR PAD" WAS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF OVER $900. I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS FAIR OR PROPER SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED FOR AIR BAG ISSUES AND BECAUSE GM IS CURRENTLY RECALLING THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES FOR KNOWN AIRBAG DEFECTS. *TR
CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING PROPERLY AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO BE SLIPPING WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO ACCELERATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY MENTIONED THAT 3-5-R CLUTCH HAD FAILED. THE CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 85000 MILES. WE FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BASED ON RESEARCH THAT INDICATES THERE IS AN UNUSUALLY HIGH NUMBER OF FAILURES OF THIS PART, WHICH CAN CAUSE SUDDEN DECELERATIONS, NOT ENOUGH POWER TO ACCELERATE, OR FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE WHEN IN "PARK" CAUSING CARS TO ROLL. (OUR CAR HAD ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION.) WE FEEL LUCKY WE DID NOT HAVE A MAJOR INCIDENT. GM HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAVE A WIDER PROBLEM AND SO FAR HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE AND THEN LOST THE ABILITY TO MOVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD RUN BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ON PASSENGER SIDE, AIR BAG SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT SO INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS SAYS "OFF" AND WILL TURN ON SOMETIMES, BUT MOST TIMES NOT TURN ON AT ALL. WE WERE CONCERNED THAT IN A CRASH, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY AS IT THINKS NO ONE IS SEATED THERE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO BERGLUND CHEVROLET FOR REPAIR. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SENSOR AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT CUSHION TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND IT COST IN EXCESS OF $700. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL AS I HAVE READ ON THIS WEBSITE THAT OTHERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR AIRBAG. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO OUR EARLIER COMPLAINT @10583156. *TR
AS THE 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE VEHICLE WAS SLOWED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY, IT SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY BECAME VERY, VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, SUCH THAT THE VEHICLE ALMOST WENT OFF OF THE ROAD AND INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS GOING SLOWLY ENOUGH THAT IT COULD BE ABRUPTLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND IT WAS NOT REAR-ENDED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. WHEN I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER CARE, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN CONDITION FOR WHICH SPECIAL COVERAGE #14329 WAS ISSUED. GIVEN HOW DANGEROUS THIS CONDITION IS THAT DRAMATICALLY AFFECTS THE ABILITY OF A DRIVER TO STEER THE VEHICLE, I AM VERY UPSET THAT GENERAL MOTORS FAILED TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED CARS THAT THIS HAZARDOUS CONDITION EXISTED AND THAT GENERAL MOTORS FAILED TO ISSUE AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE RECALL. IT IS URGENT THAT NHTSA REQUIRES THAT GENERAL MOTORS ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY DEFECT. PASTED BELOW IS THE DEALER NOTIFICATION THAT WAS ISSUED TO GM SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 BY GENERAL MOTORS. "#14329: SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT - LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST - (SEP 16, 2014). CONDITION. SOME 2008-2011 MODEL YEAR (MY) BUICK ENCLAVE, 2009-2011 MY CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, 2007-2011 MY GMC ACADIA, AND 2007-2010 MY SATURN OUTLOOK VEHICLES MAY DEVELOP A POWER STEERING PUMP WEAR CONDITION THAT CAN CAUSE AN INTERMITTENT DROP OF POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE THAT WILL CAUSE REDUCED OR LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST. THE VEHICLE MAY REVERT TO MANUAL STEERING WHICH REQUIRES GREATER DRIVER EFFORT, PARTICULARLY AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS." *TR
2008 ENCLAVE DEVELOPED A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING A SLOW SPEEDS. TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW RACK AND STRUTS. CAR HAD BEEN TOTALLY SERVICED IN JULY WITH NO ISSUES SEEN. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF THESE PARTS FAILING ON THIS MODEL YEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT EVERY TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE VEHICLE WOULD DRASTICALLY DECELERATE MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON IN ORDER TO RESET THE COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART EACH TIME BUT THE FAILURE WAS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALER TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE TRANSMISSION REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED GM DENIED HER REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT. IN SPETEMBER 2014, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED DUE TO A WAVE PLATE DEFECT. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THEY WOULD OFFER FULL REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLES THAT HAD THE REPAIR IF THEY WERE LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD OR HAD LESS THAN 120,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR. MY FAMILY AND I WERE ON OUR WAY BACK TO WISCONSIN FROM A TRIP TO FLORIDA ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 2014. MY HUSBAND HAD EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT. THE SPACE WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. AS HE PULLED INTO THE SPACE, THE ENCLAVE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARD. I CHECKED THE POSITION OF THE GEARSHIFT THINKING THAT HE HAD ACCIDENTALLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BUT FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. THE ENGINE REVVED WHEN HE PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARD. THE ONLY GEAR THE WOULD WORK WAS PARK. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL BUICK GMC CADILLAC DEALER. ON MONDAY, AUGUST 18, A SERVICE TECHNICIAN CALLED TO LET US KNOW THAT THE 35R WAVE PLATE HAD FAILED AND THE 35R HOUSING WAS ALSO DAMAGED AND THAT METAL DEBRIS HAD BEEN FOUND THROUGHOUT THE UNIT. THE REPAIR TOOK ABOUT TWO DAYS AND COST $3589.49. THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. HAD WE REMAINED ON THE INTERSTATE ANOTHER MILE AND SUDDENLY NOT BEEN ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE MOVING FORWARD WHILE THE TRAFFIC AROUND US MOVED AT EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS, WE COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN TERRIBLE INJURY OR FATALITY. I WROTE A LETTER TO BUICK REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT OF COST OF THE REFUND AND EXPENSE WE INCURRED DUE TO HAVING TO WAIT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I ALSO REQUESTED THAT THEY ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE WAVE PLATE FAILURE DUE TO THE SEVERE DANGER THAT THE FAILURE CREATES. FINALLY, I MENTIONED INFORMATION I FOUND ON THE INTERNET STATING THAT THIS FAILURE IS COMMON ON THE ENCLAVE AND ITS SISTER VEHICLES. THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE NHTSA, NOT GM, ISSUES RECALLS AND GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT THE NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. *TR

CAR WOULD LOOSE COMPLETE POWER. THE FIRST THREE TIMES IT WOULD TAKE A JUMP OFF. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS TIME TO BUT A BATTERY. I WENT TO GET MY BATTERY TESTED FIRST AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE BATTERY WAS PERFECTLY FINE. I DROVE IT TO WORK THE NEXT DAY AND IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. EVERYTHING WOULD WORK IN THE CAR BUT NO FIRE WAS GETTING TO THE IGNITION. I HAD IT TOWED TO WIESNER AUTO IN HUNTSVILLE TEXAS AND THEY FOUND THAT THE WIRES THAT GOES FROM THE STARTER TO THE IGNITION HAD SHORTED OUT. I ENDED UP SPENDING $204.00. THE LIFT GATE WOULD NOT STAY OPEN. IT WOULD OPEN BUT THEN SUDDENLY JUST SLAM DOWN. THE LIFT GATE STRUTS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ON MANY OCCASIONS WHILE WE WERE UNLOADING GROCERIES, THE LIFT GATE CAME CRASHING DOWN ON MY FAMILIES HEADS. IT BEGAN THE SUMMER OF 2014. I ENDED UP TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED IT, HOWEVER, I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. I JUST NOW RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE SAME PARTS SO I WILL BE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER.
AFTER 66,000 MILES OF EASY DRIVING, OUR 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE HAS A BROKEN WAVE PLATE AND NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION! THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAUSED TWO SEPARATE DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATIONS, ONE OF WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. THE FIRST EVENT OCCURRED WHEN STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. I HAD TWO CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. WHEN THE INTERSECTION CLEARED, I BEGAN TO MAKE THE LEFT TURN, BUT THE ENGINE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND MERELY COASTED INTO THE LANE OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE 7-YEAR-OLD CHILD SITTING THERE WERE LEFT EXPOSED TO THE THREAT OF IMPACT BY FAST-APPROACHING TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 2 SECONDS, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AND WE WERE ABLE TO LEAVE THE INTERSECTION MOMENTS BEFORE ON-COMING TRAFFIC ARRIVED. THE SECOND EVENT OCCURRED TWO DAYS LATER. TRAVELING 45-50 MPH ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SLIPPED GEARS AND WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE RETURNED HOME AT SLOW SPEED. IN THE DRIVEWAY, WE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. IT BARELY MOVED IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE NEXT DAY, WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE NEARBY DEALERSHIP. IT SHIFTED GEARS ON THE WAY, BUT THE WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT THE WAVE PLATE IS BROKEN AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REPLACED. WE TRIED CONTACTING GM CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT RECEIVED NOTHING MORE THAN A RECORDED MESSAGE ASKING US TO HOLD ON THE LINE. WE HELD FOR OVER ONE HOUR AND RECEIVED NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. A REVIEW OF MANY WEBSITE POSTINGS REVEALS A WIDESPREAD FAILURE OF THE ENCLAVE WAVE PLATE AND TRANSMISSION, THAT GM IS FULLY AWARE OF IT AND HAS TAKEN NO STEPS TO ADDRESS IT OR TO ENSURE OF THE SAFETY OF THE THOUSANDS OF ENCLAVE OWNERS AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. FAILING ANY ACCOUNTABILITY BY GM, WE INSIST THAT NHTSA TAKE ACTION ON THIS WIDESPREAD SAFETY HAZARD AND ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
THREE WEEKS AGO I TOOK MY 2008 ENCLAVE TO O'NEAL BUICK GMC TO HAVE THE AIR BAG RECALL COMPLETED AS I HAD THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN MY DASH ALONG WITH THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING SIGN. I ALSO NOTICED WHEN I DROPPED MY VEHICLE OFF THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WASN'T WORKING REGARDLESS IF ANYONE WAS SITTING THERE OUR NOT EVEN MY HUSBAND WHO'S 210 POUINDS THE LIGHT STAYED OFF. AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE THE TECHNICIAN CAME TO ME AND ADVISED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ISSUE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING IT BACK AND LEAVE IT BUT THAT THEY WERE FIXING THE RECALL WHICH HAD TO DO WITH THEM TOUCHING WIRES UNDER MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP I EXPECTED THE PASSENGER SEAT TO BE THE SAME AS THEY TOLD ME I WOULD NEED TO BRING IT BACK. HOWEVER THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AND SERVICE AIRBAG SIGN SHOULD HAVE GONE AWAY AND THEY BOTH WERE STILL PRESENT. I QUESTIONED IT AND THE TECH SAID AGAIN IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL. UPON DRIVING HOME I NOTICED THAT I NOW HAD ANOTHER ISSUE A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT WHICH WAS NSOT PRESENT BEFORE THEY DID THE WORK. I DROPPED MY VEHICLE OFF TO THEM AGAIN ON 7/28/14 FOR THE FOLLOW-UP VISIT AND ADVISED THE DEALER THAT BASED ON MY PAPER WORK FROM GM THE WARNIGN LIGHTS I HAVE ARE A RESULT OF THE RECALL. I ALSO ALERTED THEM TO THE CLICKING NOISE AND THEY SAID WE WILL LOOK INTO IT. TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I PICKED MY VEHICLE UP ON 7/29/14 ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF AND EVEN THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT WAS WORKING AND OF COURSE NO CHARGE TO ME. HOWEVER, AS OF TODAY 7/30/14 I STILL HAVE THE CLICKING NOISE AND IT'S WORST. I HEAR IT ALL OVER MY FRONT END AND NOW EVEN WHEN I TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. WHILE ON AN ON-RAMP TO AN INTERSTATE, MY WIFE WAS MERGING INTO FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. AS SHE ACCELERATED AND MERGED INTO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV AND THE VEHICLE TO LOSE SPEED. NOT ONLY WAS THE SURPRISE AND SHOCK OF THE EVENT TO INCLUDE THE VERY HIGH REVVING ALARMING, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION BY FAILING TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN PROPER LANE POSITION IN TRAFFIC. MY WIFE MANAGED TO COAST THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SHOULDER WHERE SHE WAITED IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE POSITION FOR HELP. THAT IS WHEN I REALIZED MY ENCLAVE HAD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND HIT THE BRAKES TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WHERE I THEN RESTARTED IT. THAT WAS 2 DAYS AGO. TODAY I WENT TO START IT FOR WORK AND FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 2 MONTHS IT WOULD NOT START. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE BATTERY AS WELL AS THE CONNECTIONS CHECKED WITH NO WRONG FINDINGS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 MONTHS! I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THERE IS A 'SERVICE BULLETIN' POSTED IN THEIR REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE "MANY PEOPLE" WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT IT WAS NOT A RECALL. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND AS CAR WAS TRYING TO CLIMB A HILL AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTING GEARS, IT SLIPPED. HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHILE ON INTERSTATE. GOT TO LOCATION AND THEN WENT TO LEAVE AGAIN AND BACKING UP CAR WAS HESITATING. PULL FORWARD THEN NEEDED TO GO IN REVERSE AND CAR HESITATED LIKE SOMEONE PRESSING ON AND OFF GAS. ARRIVED BACK AT HOME AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO TRANSMISSION PLACE (HAD ALREADY RESEARCHED THROUGH WEEKEND ON PROBLEM AND SAW ALOT OF PROBLEMS WITH 2008 BUICK ENCLAVES WITH WAVE PLATE (SNAP RING) GOING OUT ON TRANSMISSION. JUST RECEIVED CALL AND MY BUICK IS ANOTHER ONE THAT HAS JOINED THE RANK OF ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REBUILT/REPLACED AT THIS STAGE OF VEHICLE LIFE. I AM ONE YEAR OUT OF MY WARRANTY, BUT UNDER THE MILEAGE, HOWEVER, THAT DOESN'T MATTER! GM NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS! WHILE DRIVING OUR 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE IN A PARKING LOT, I ATTEMPTED TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT AND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP ON ME AND I WAS UNABLE TO FINISH THE TURN AND ALMOST RAN INTO A CAR. LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT I WAS ABLE TO STEP ON THE BRAKES BEFORE I HIT THE CAR PARKED IN THE SPACE NEXT TO THE ONE I WAS TRYING TO PARK IN. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. SINCE THEN EVERY TIME I AM GOING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED AND MAKE A SHARP TURN THE STEERING GOES OUT OF THE CAR. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THE DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING PUMP IS FAULTY. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT. AS I RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET I SAW THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AS THE FIX FOR THIS IS OVER A $1000.00. FOR A VEHICLE THAT COSTS ALMOST $50,000 BRAND NEW THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I SHOULD NOT BE TAKING THIS CAR TO THE SHOP FOR STEERING PROBLEMS AT THIS LOW MILEAGE. *TR

ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO WHEN I WOULD GET IN MY VEHICLE AND ATTEMPT TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING WOULDN'T FUNCTION FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT FOUR TIMES. THIS WEEKEND ON SATURDAY I DROVE FROM MY HOUSE TO A GAS STATION, WAS PULLING UP TO A GAS PUMP AND LOST MY STEERING AGAIN FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. ON SUNDAY I WAS PULLING OUT OF A RESTAURANT ONTO A BUSY ROAD AND LOST MY STEERING FOR FIFTEEN SECONDS!! AFTER BRINGING IT TO THE DEALER, BEING CHARGED $50 AND BEING TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, I CALLED BUICK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE ONLINE THAT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE.
