A/C CONDENSER CRACKED LOSING GAS & OIL BEING REPLACED. INFORMATION INDICATES COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. *JB
2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS FUEL GAUGE HAS NEVER WORKED CONSISTENTLY AFTER 2007 ON SOME OCCASION WE MAY GET SOMETHING IN BETWEEN BUT MOSTLY JUST FULL OR EMPTY. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE SINCE PURCHASE OF CAR, HEAD GASKET REPLACED TWICE. AS OF YET OUR GAS GAUGE ISSUE HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED AS THE AUTO MECHANICS TEND TO JUST THROW PARTS AT IT UNTIL WE NO LONGER HAVE MONEY TO SPEND. IN DOING RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE AND DO HAVE THE FEINT SMELL OF GAS AS NOTED IN A SAFETY RECALL THAT OUR CAR IS NOT A PART OF BUT MEETS THE MODEL YEAR. *KB
CAR HAD SMELLED LIKE URINE FOR A FEW MONTHS ON A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE FIXED. HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET DUE TO COST. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE AND WE ARE WAITING FOR SO ACTION TO BE TAKEN. *JB
ON TUESDAY NOV. 22, 2006 I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS IN MY GARAGE WHERE MY 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS WAS PARKED. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE GAS TANK WAS LEAKING WHERE THE FILLER PIPE MEETS THE TANK. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED BUICK TO SEE IF I COULD BRING THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD YES. I WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE THE TANK IS PLASTIC IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1100. PARTS AND LABOR. I ALSO ASKED IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER RENDEZVOUS AND WAS TOLD YES AND WAS ALSO TOLD THIS HAPPENS TO THE CHEVY ENVOY. I THEN ASKED IF BUICK WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS IF THIS IS AN APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE TANK AND WAS TOLD THAT A GM KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL I MUST ABSORB THE REPAIR COST. I WAS LUCKY THAT MY CAR WAS PARKED IN DOORS AND I SMELLED THE GAS LEAKING. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE POOR SOUL WHO PARKS OUT DOORS AND DOES NOT KNOW HIS TANK IS LEAKING. DOES IT TAKE FIRE OR DEATH FOR THE PEOPLE AT GM TO REALIZE THEIR MISTAKE AND FIX THESE TANKS BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I CAN GET THE INFORMATION AS TO HOW MANY OF THESE TANKS WERE DEFECTIVE AND HOW MANY WERE COVERED BY WARRANTY AND HOW MANY REPLACED ATT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. I HAD AN EXTENDED 75,000 MILE WARRANTY THAT JUST EXPIRED LAST MONTH OR I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO ENDURE AN $1112.06 REPAIR BILL TO ENSURE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL STIFFENS AND THE VEHICLE FAILS TO STOP WHEN IT SHOULD. THE FAILURE DOES NOT OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. SAFETY RECALL # 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES: HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK) DOES NOT APPLY TO THE VIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 72,463 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TURNS ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. CAR WILL NOT START. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. THE CONTACT ENTERED HIS GARAGE AND SMELLED A STRONG GAS ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC WELD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER MADE THE REPLACEMENT. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V349000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,500. UPDATED 02/19/08. *LJ
I REPORTED A PROBLEM WITH A LEAK IN MY GAS TANK OF MY 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS AS A RESULT OF A FAILURE OF A PLASTIC WELD LAST YEAR. I WAS NOTIFIED LAST AUGUST AS A RESULT OF MY LETTER THAT GM WAS RECALLING 20,594 RENDEZVOUS BUT ONLY FROM CERTAIN STATES WHERE THE HEAT CAUSED THE WELD TO FAIL DUE TO EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION. AS MY CAR WAS PURCHASED IN FLORIDA WHERE THE FAILURE RATE WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A RECALL MY V.I.N. NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I WAS TOLD IN SEPT BY AN N.H.S.T.A. REPRESENTATIVE THAT ALTHOUGH I WAS NOT IN THE RECALL I WOULD RECEIVE A SERVICE BULLETIN LETTER FROM GM AND BE ENTITLED TO A REFUND FOR THE COST OF THIS PLASTIC PIECE OF JUNK BUICK HAD INSTALLED. WELL I'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GM AND THE REPRESENTATIVE I AM ASSIGNED TO TOLD ME GM HAS NO PLANS TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE $700 PLUS I PAID FOR THE TANK. ( I WAS SUCCESSFUL TO GET THEM TO REIMBURSE MY LABOR COST LAST AUGUST OR SO.) I CAN NOT SPEAK WITH ANY GM EXECUTIVES AS MY GM CONTACT INFORMS ME THAT THEIR NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS ARE CONFIDENTIAL. I HAVE CALLED THE NHSTA REP I WORKED WITH IN THE PAST AND LEFT VOICE MAILS BUT DESPITE 3 SUCH CALLS I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL BACK. BESIDE WRITING MY STATE SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN WHO ELSE CAN HELP ME TO GET MY REFUND FOR A GAS TANK THAT SHOULD BE AS A SAFETY FACTOR THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM NOT THE CONSUMER. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES WERE INOPERABLE. ALSO, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT OPERATE UP OR DOWN, AND THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHT LOCATED ABOVE THE REAR WINDOW DID NOT ILLUMINATE. THE SERVICE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE BRAKES WERE DEFECTIVE. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR A WHILE, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE. UPDATED 12/01/06. *JB
THREE SAFETY RELATED ISSUES WITH MY 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS CXL. THE ABS SENSORS FAILED WHICH WAS A DIFFICULT PROBLEM TO DIAGNOSE AS THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY CAUSED BY WATER IN THE INSULATION TO THE SENSOR WIRING HARNESSES. I'M NOW BEING NOTIFIED OF A FRONT WHEEL BEARING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT YET REACHED A FORMAL RECALL. SECOND ISSUE INVOLVES THE AWD REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY (DIFFERENTIAL). MOANING NOISES START IN THE REAR END, IN LOW SPEED TURNS SUCH AS PARKING LOT MANEUVERS. OCCURRENCE INCREASES IN SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY FAIRLY QUICKLY. THE REAR AXLE IS TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. BUT I NOTICE THAT THIS IS NOT A RANDOM OR UNUSUAL PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR/MODEL BUICK. I WOULD THINK THAT BOTH OF THESE ISSUES DUE TO THEIR RATE OF OCCURRENCE WOULD TRIGGER A FORMAL RECALL. WHY DOES THE REAR DRIVE AXLE CONTINUE TO FAIL? IF IT SHOULD FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY, WILL IT POSE A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IF HIGHWAY SPEEDS ARE INVOLVED AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNSTABLE? *NM
I HAVE A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS WHICH HAS THE EXACT SAME DEFECT IN THE FUEL TANK AT THE INLET AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECENT RECALL NOTICE, GM RECALL NO. 06230 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NO. 07V349000. I CALLED THE PHONE NUMBER FOR BUICK AS DESCRIBED IN THE CAMPAIGN NOTICE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BUICK/GM THAT MY RENDEZVOUS DOES NOT QUALIFY AS PART OF THE RECALL; MY VEHICLE IS AN EARLIER MANUFACTURE DATE THAN THOSE IN THE NOTICE. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I CHOSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF THAT IF MY VEHICLE WAS EVER INTRODUCED INTO THE RECALL THAT I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR MY EXPENSE. THIS REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK AND INLET IS NEARLY $1,000 ACCORDING TO MY DEALER. I HAVE MADE TEMPORARY REPAIRS, BUT FEEL THAT BUICK/GM IS IGNORING A MORE WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES THAN THE RECALL INDICATES. MY RENDEZVOUS IS AN EARLY 2002, MANUFACTURED IN MID 2001. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVED SINCE OCTOBER OF 2006. ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR A STRESS CRACK DEVELOPED ON THE FUEL FILLER INLET TO THE FUEL TANK AT THE ICV COUPLING. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE DASHBOARD ELECTRONICS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BCM MODULE; HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEM.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD, THE POWER CONTROLS WERE INOPERABLE AND THE LIGHTS DID NOT WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
FUEL GAUGE FOR 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS CXL WAS READING INCORRECTLY. THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF GAS WHILE GAUGE INDICATED FULL TANK. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FUEL KIT. DEALERSHIP (CERTIFIED BUICK DEALERSHIP) INSTALLED NEW FUEL KIT. NEXT DAY, THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF FUEL ON DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE FROM FUEL TANK. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED AND ABLE TO CORRECT. DURING SAME TIME PERIOD, TRANSMISSION WAS NOT PROPERLY SHIFTING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NEVER SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE AND WOULD SOMETIMES SHIFT ABRUPTLY OR VERY HARD (JERKS). DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW TRANSMISSION. DEALER CORRECTED. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, VEHICLE TURNING BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT AND POWER STEERING FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALERSHIP INDICATED NEEDED AN ENTIRE NEW RACK AND PINION. DEALER CORRECTED. CURRENT DEFECT INVOLVES COOLANT LEAKING INTO ENGINE DUE TO A LEAKING LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS OUT FOR SAME COMPONENT IN THIS AND OTHER GM VEHICLES. DEALER INDICATED THAT THIS WILL CAUSE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO ENGINE IF NOT CORRECTED. CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO HAVE VEHICLE SERVICED IN 2 WEEKS. TOTAL REPAIRS FOR 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE ARE NOW OVER $8000. ALL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PAID BY OWNER AND NONE HAVE BEEN COVERED BY DEALERSHIP. *JB
MY GM BUICK RENDEZVOUS HAS A BROKEN FUEL GAUGE. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2002 AND BY 2006, THE FUEL GAUGE NO LONGER WORKED. WE NEVER REPORTED IT UNTIL I READ AN ARTICLE REGARDING THE NUMBER OF GM FUEL GAUGES THAT ARE BROKEN, YET IT DID NOT LIST THE RENDEZVOUS MODEL AS ONE THAT HAD PROBLEMS. WE HAVE TO MONITOR FUEL USAGE BY THE NUMBER OF MILES DRIVEN. *TR
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THIS VEHICLE. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER THE OTHER DAY TO HAVE THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING REPLACE (PAID FOR BY GM) AND IN THE PROCESS, THE MECHANIC FOUND ANOTHER SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAD BEEN HEARING A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR END FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW. I JACKED THE REAR END OF THE CAR UP AND COULDN'T FIND THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT IT IS THE RIGHT REAR KNUCKLE THAT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. WHEN THEY GOT IT ON THE RACK, THEY FOUND THAT THE TIRE IS MOVING FRONT TO BACK ABOUT 2 INCHES. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I WILL NEED TO GET IT FIXED ASAP AT A COST OF ABOUT $750. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC TO GET A SECOND OPINION. I GOT THE SAME DIAGNOSIS FROM THE SECOND MECHANIC WITH THE ADDITION OF "WE'VE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THESE GO BAD. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE THIS PART" THEY WENT ON TO SAY THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DO THIS WORK BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY LABOR INTENSIVE AND NOT THEIR SPECIALTY. I AM GOING TO TAKE IT TO A FRAME SPECIALIST AND HAVE THE WORK DONE THERE. DID I MENTION THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE TWO WEEKS AGO?. *JB
I WAS DRIVING IN THE DARK AND THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH, LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IN TIME, BUT THIS ISSUE AFFECTS ALL THE LIGHTS SO NO ONE CAN SEE ME STOPPING. *JB
AT APPROX 20,000 MILES MY AIR CONDITIONER UNIT WENT BAD. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE CONDENSER. AT APPROX 23,000 MILES MY RADIO WILL STAY ON AFTER WE EXITED THE CAR AND WOULD DRAIN OUR BATTERY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. THEY REGROUNDED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. AFTER A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES SAME ISSUE RETURNED AND DIDN'T BOTHER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER. AT APPROX 30,000 MILES WE WERE GETTING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BUT DEALER DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS AIR IN THE FUEL TANK. HAD SAME ISSUES FOR A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT DIDN'T BOTHER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER. AT APPROX 45,000 -50,00 THE COMPUTER UNIT WENT BAD. THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND FUEL GAUGE WAS GOING HAYWIRE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER UNIT AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY FOUND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS BAD. THEY WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED IT. AT APPROX 50,00 - 52,000 THE KEY CYLINDER WENT BAD. I COULDN'T PUT IN THE IGNITION KEY AND HAD TO TOW THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER. I NEVER HAD THOSE PROBLEMS WITH PREVIOUS VEHICLES. NOW AT APPROX 57,500 MILES THERE IS A NOISE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE'S NO NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IDLES WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED. WHEN THE TRUCK STARTS SPEEDING UP YOU HEAR A HUM IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FASTER YOU GO THE LOUDER IT GETS. IT ALSO GETS LOUDER IF YOU STEER TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. THE PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER YOU GET THE CAR FIXED, THERE'S ALWAYS SOME OTHER THINGS GOING BAD. ONCE AFTER ANOTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE FUEL TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL # 03V454000 BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE REAFFIRMED THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. CHANGED COMP CODE.PCO
I OWN A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FOR ME SINCE THE GET GO (2004). I HAVE NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS THAT ARE GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE AS OTHER OWNERS. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS STARTED AT OR AROUND 70000 MILES. THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS GO OFF WITH OUT WARNING AND FOR NO REASON FOR SOMETIMES UP TO A MINUTE (AND THIS HAS HAPPENED AT NIGHTIME) "MAJOR SAFTEY ISSUE" NO ONE CAN TELL US WHY THE VEHICLE DOES THIS. THE NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVEN AT 45 MPH OR MORE IS OUTRAGIOUS...IT MAKES AN AWFUL HUMMING SOUND SO LOUD THAT THE RADIO CAN'T BE HEARD. THE VEHICLE ALSO WILL NOT START AT TIMES AS WELL...FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON AT ALL...NOTHING CAN BE FOUND WRONG WITH IT ALL!!! IT WILL STALL OR WILL NOT START AT ALL AFTER SEVERAL STARTS AND TURN OFFS. IT HAS ALSO DONE THIS ON INCLINES OR AFTER FILLING AT THE GAS STATION ONCE AS WELL. IF YOU GO BACK AND TRY TO START THE VEHICLE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR IT WILL START...I FIGURED THIS OUT AFTER CALLING A TOW TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES...AND BY THE TIME THEY GOT TO ME..THEY TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED. THE VEHICLE BURNS A QURT OF OIL EVERY 3000 MILES OR SO. NOW MY BRAKES ARE TO THE FLOOR WHICH I HAVE RECENTLY HAD IT TO THE SHOP AGAIN AND THE MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKES ARE FINE THAT I NEED MY ABS PUMP (MASTER CYLINDER) REPLACED IT IS LEAKING 800.00 +++ JUST FOR THE PART ALONE HMMMMM??? JUST ANOTHER ISSUE REPORTED LIKE ALL THE ABOVE FROM OTHER BUICK RENDEZVOUS 2002 OWNERS. OH AND ALSO MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAS BROKE AND THAT WILL BE COSTING ME 450.00. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT SHUT CORRECTLY NOW AT ALL THE HINGES ARE MESSED UP ON THESE MODELS. THE DOOR GETS STUCK ALL THE TIME. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE PROBLEMS THAT OTHER BUICK RENDEZVOUS OWNERS OF THE 2002 MODELS ARE HAVING AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT ASAP. *JB

I HAVE BEEN HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH OUR 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP SO MANY TIMES BUT THEY CAN NOT FIND NOR FIX THE PROBLEM. HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS JUST COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING. RIGHT NOW OF 8/8/06 ITS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR: 1. ALL EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL LIGHTS INCLUDING HEADLIGHTS AND BACK LIGHTS TURN OFF EVEN WHILE CAR IS IN DRIVE. TURNS OFF FOR ABOUT 6 SECONDS. DROVE COUPLE OF NIGHTS WHEN THIS OCCURRED 1 INCIDENT ON MAJOR HIGHWAY WHILE MERGING, ALMOST AN ACCIDENT. LEFT IN PURE DARKNESS. HAPPENS ANYTIME OF THE DAY. SAFETY ISSUE THAT GM SERVICE HAS NOT YET FIXED. 2. CAR GOES ON LIKE A SECURITY MODE. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT SOON INDICATOR STAYS ON, RADIO NOT WORK, AC NOT WORK, WINDOWS AND DOORS LOCK, CLOCK STOPS. EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL LOCKS UP. TOOK THIS TO THE SHOP MANY TIMES AND STILL NOT FIXED. BCM CHANGED IN 2004 TO TRY TO FIX THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BUT DID NOT WORK. 3. 1ST TIME ONLY SUV COMPLETELY WON'T START. LAST DRIVEN WAS JULY 31ST 06 AND IT WORKED FINE, IT SAT IN THE GARAGE AFTER. NEXT DAY OF WANTING TO USE IT WAS AUG. 5TH 06 WOULD NOT START AND TRIED TO JUMP CHARGE IT BUT DID NOT WORK. HAD TO GET IT TOWED OUT OF OUR GARAGE. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT IT HAS BEEN HAVING. SO FAR, NO LUCK ON WHAT'S THE CAUSE OF IT AGAIN. MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT ON JULY 2, 2006. SHE WAS A PROMISING MICRO-BIOLOGIST WHOM WORKED ON CURES FOR OVARIAN CANCER. SHE WAS RAN OFF A ROAD BY ANOTHER DRIVER AND SENT INTO A LINE OF TREES IN OUR BUICK RENDEZVOUS (2002 CX). THE DRIVER-SIDE HEADLIGHT MADE DIRECT CONTACT WITH ONE TREE AND THE FORCE OPENED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ALLOWING IT TO BE "RIPPED" OFF THE HINGES. THEREBY, EXPOSING HER TO THE NATURAL ELEMENTS AND MAKING HER VULNERABLE TO STRIKE A SECOND TREE THAT BROKE EVERY BONE IN HER FACE AND KILLED HER. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE WHEN THE 2002 RENDEZVOUS WAS TESTED, IT RECEIVED 3 TO 4 STARS AND THE CONSISTENT PROBLEM THAT AROSE, BASED UPON THE ARTICLE THAT I READ, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OPENS DURING AN OFFSET FRONTAL ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED MY 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS CXL IN EARLY 2003. BY 2004 I HAD TO HAVE THE A/C CONDENSER REPLACED, THE SHOCKS & STRUTS REPLACED AND NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE A/C. THEN IN SUMMER OF 2006 THE CAR ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING AND THE CAR STALLED OUT WITH SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD, ETC. HAD IT TOWED TO BUICK, THEY SAID THE ENGINE HAD A LEAK SOMEWHERE AND WATER LEAKED INTO THE OIL...HUH? ANYWAY, OF COURSE EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, I WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THE OPTION WAS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR $6,000. THIS VEHICLE WAS ALREADY PAID OFF AND WORTH ABOUT $14K PRIOR TO THE ENGINE BLOWING UP. I ENDED UP SELLING IT FOR $3K. IS THIS NORMAL? I THINK NOT. I SUBMITTED MY CASE TO SEVERAL "LAWYER" CLAIMING TO SPECIALIZE IN THIS TYPE OF RIP OFF ACTIVITY BY CAR MANUFACTURERS BUT THEY SAID IT WASN'T WORTH IT TO THEM TO PURSUE IT. TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD THAT THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS SHOT AND THE RIGHT ONE WAS STARTING TO GO BAD. ESTIMATED COST OF OVER $1,000. $303 FOR EACH WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSY (AUTO PART STORE MAX PRICE OF $134 EA) 1.4 HR LABOR FOR EACH SIDE (MANAGER SAID HIS MECHANIC COULD HAVE EACH SIDE DONE IN AN HOUR). EQUALS $606 ($338 IN PROFIT) IN PARTS AND $400 IN LABOR FOR 2 HOURS OF WORK. I ALSO NOTICE THIS HAPPENING WHEN DRIVING ON DOWNGRADES OR SMALL HILLS THAT I'M TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEEDS. I ALSO SOMETIMES HEAR A RUBBING SOUND WHEN THE TRACTION ACTIVATION LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR IN THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY FIRST SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD TWO DIFFERENT BRANDS OF TIRES - SO I REPLACED THEM AND THAT DIDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE ABS SENSOR/WHEEL BEARING, BUT THEY STATE IT'S FINE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A LEAKING HEAD GASKET AND INTAKE GASKET, BUT COULD NOT REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THERE WERE OTHER VEHICLES WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. ON 06/18/06, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR A SCHEDULED REPAIR ON 06/19/06. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE DEFECT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE SAME MODEL.
BROUGHT A NEW 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS CX FROM A DEALER. AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES THE CAR STARTED HAVING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS THAT WERE BEYOND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. STARTING WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT AND OTHER PROBLEMS. THEY WERE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY. BUT ABOUT 24,000 AND WITHOUT WARRANTY, THE CAR GOT OVERHEATED FOR A 15 MINUTES TRAFFIC JAM. TURNED OUT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE AC SENSOR WASN'T WORKING. REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING SENSOR. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, THE OTHER WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. JUST ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO AND 35,000 MILES LATER, THE OVERHEATED PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN, COMPOUNDED WITH THE A/C LINKAGE, AND THE ABS SENSOR WASN'T WORKING. I PAID $1,200 FOR FIXING THE OVERHEAT PROBLEM AND REPLACING THE ABS SENSOR. I DIDN'T FIX THE AC LINKAGE BECAUSE IT WOULD COST ME ANOTHER $900!! TWO SAFETY RELATED ISSUES WITH MY 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS CXL. THE FRONT HUB ABS SENSORS FAILED AT 51,000 MILES (LEFT SIDE) AND 58,500 MILES (RIGHT SIDE). DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM UNTIL ACTUAL FAILURE AND ERROR CODE. MEANWHILE, THE BRAKES ARE VERY ERRATIC AT LOW SPEEDS. OFTEN LONG STOPPING DISTANCE WHILE THE PEDAL PULSATES SEVERELY. VEHICLE PULLS SEVERELY TO ONE SIDE. DEALER REPLACED A WHEEL HUB THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. THEY REWIRED THE ABS SENSOR ON THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL THE SECOND TIME. IT WAS CORRECTED WHEN FINALLY DIAGNOSED BUT, PARTICULARLY WITH THE FIRST INCIDENT, WE HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH UNSAFE BRAKES UNTIL THE ERROR CODE WOULD REGISTER AND THE DEALER WOULD PERFORM THE REPAIRS. SECOND ISSUE INVOLVES THE AWD REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY. MOANING NOISES START IN THE REAR END, ESPECIALLY IN LOW SPEED TURNS SUCH AS PARKING LOT MANEUVERS. OCCURRENCE INCREASES IN SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY FAIRLY QUICKLY. THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE BY THE DEALER. ONCE AT 27,000 MILES AND ONCE AT 55,000 MILES. THIS IS A $3,000+ REPAIR AND IS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY. WHY DOES THE REAR DRIVE AXLE CONTINUE TO FAIL? IF IT SHOULD FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY, IT WILL POSE A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IF HIGHWAY SPEEDS ARE INVOLVED AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNSTABLE. NOT ONLY IS SAFETY INVOLVED BUT THE VERY HIGH COST OF REPLACEMENT IS UNACCEPTABLE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *JB

THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AND ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF LATER - GEAR SHIFTING GOT MUCH ROUGHER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN INITIALLY PUT INTO DRIVE, THEN WOULD JUMP INTO GEAR - BUT WOULD JUMP OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING! BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER SERVICE COMPANY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS MAJOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT AND IS USED MOSTLY FOR LOCAL DRIVING. I HAVE HEARD ABOUT 4 OTHERS WHO HAVE RENDEZVOUS STATE THAT THEY ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITHIN THE PAST MONTH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL MODULE ALONG WITH THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HVAC CONTROL HEAD AND THE BATTERY CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER HUSBAND REPLACED BOTH PARTS AND THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLINKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. AS OF NOVEMBER 8, 2007, THE MECHANIC HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT OPERATE. AS OF NOVEMBER 8, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A SLIGHT THUMPING NOISE IN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE AREA AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED. THE REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING HAD SIGNIFICANT PLAY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 3/20/2006 - THE ROTORS WERE ALSO REPLACED. *NM
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED A WHINING NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN DRIVING AROUND 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE LOCAL MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE FRONT HUB BEARINGS WERE WORN AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE HUB BEARINGS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. ON AT LEAST 50 OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE JUST COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD "BUCK" AND STALL AS IF IT WERE OUT OF GAS. WITHIN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOR APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES, EVEN AFTER REFUELING. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO WAIT BETWEEN THIRTY MINUTES AND TWO HOURS BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO RESTART WOULD COINCIDE WITH HOW HOT IT WAS OUTSIDE. MANY TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS ACTIVATED. BOTH THE DEALER AND A LOCAL GARAGE WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

I HAVE HAD ALL THE PROBLEMS: BAD INTAKE MANIFOLD, HOLE IN THE A/C CONDENSER, WINDOWS FALLING DOWN INTO THE DOORS (TWICE) DUE TO BAD REGULATORS, FRONT PASSENGER DOOR BECAME SPRUNG ON IT'S OWN, IT EATS TIRES FOR BREAKFAST.
