The contact owns a 2008 Cadillac CTS. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, he noticed there was a puddle of fuel on the ground coming from the passenger's side fuel line. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with corrosion on the fuel line causing the fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
Fuel supply stops and engine stalls when I get near or below 1/4 tank. I can restart the engine and it will run for anywhere from a few seconds to sometimes a minute, but mostly only a few seconds. Limp my car this way to a gas station, fill the tank, problem solved. I know it had fuel in the tank as it only took 11 gallons with my 16 gallon tank. Installed a new fuel pump, problem continues. This can put someone in a life threatening situation. The first time it happened I was passing a semi truck on a 2 lane Interstate with cars and trucks behind me. Just as I got half way on the semi's left, I'm doing about 70 mph, the engine stalls. Luckily, I kept a cool head and turned on my blinker as the car slowed down. The semi behind me took a hint and backed off so I could coast to the right shoulder. This could very easily have caused a fatal accident. It has since happened 3 or 4 other times.

I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE IT SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING FROM THE TOP. MY CAR IS A AWD AND THIS WILL BE A COSTLY REPAIR. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON A DANGEROUS COMMON PROBLEM? THANKS

14V542000 WAS A RECALL ON 2004-2007 CADILLAC CTS FOR FUEL LEAK ABOVE THE TANK. THIS 2008 MODEL HAS THE VERY SAME/SIMILAR LEAK AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? WHY NOT? SAME PROBLEM, VERY DANGEROUS. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS IT LOOKS LIKE IF YOU SEARCH INTERNET ABOUT THE 2008 CADILLAC CTS FUEL LEAK.
THE FUEL PUMP FUEL FEED LINE HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK AND IS SPRAYING FUEL CREATING A FIRE HAZZARD. ON TOP OF THE TANK SITS THE FUEL PUMP. ON THE FUEL PUMP THE FEED TUBE CONNECTS TO THE FUEL LINE WHICH THEN GOES TO THE ENGINE. THIS LEAK CREATED A FUEL ODOR AND GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I FOUND DAMPNESS ON TOP OF THE TANK, WHICH WAS GASOLINE. UPON MY FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THE FUEL SPRAYING OUT OF A PIN HOLE SIZED CRACK. THIS IS SIMILAR TO A RECALL ISSUED ON OTHER GM VEHICLES IN THE PAST AND I FEEL THE CADILLAC CTS SHOULD BE INCLUDED. I'VE NOTICE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES VIA AN ONLINE SEARCH AT CADILLAC WEB FORUMS. I PERFORMED THE REPAIR MYSELF BUT IT IS A VERY LABOR INTENSIVE AND EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A NON CAPABLE PERSON IF DONE BY A DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A 6 HOUR JOB BECAUSE THE REAR FRAME, DIFFERENTIAL, EXHAUST ETC MUST BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE GAS TANK. A MAJOR ISSUE AND SAFETY RISK IN MY VIEW. THE LEAK WILL OCCUR WHENEVER THE CAR IS ON AS WELL AS OFF SINCE THE FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER PRESSURE. WHEN CAR WAS PARKED - MY GARAGE SMELLED LIKE GAS THE LEAK WAS SO BAD. ** I HAVE PHOTOS AND VIDEO AND WILL UPLOAD AT A LATER TIME. ** THIS CAR IS A PERFECTLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE AND STILL APPEARS BRAND NEW - NO ABUSE OR OTHER ISSUES CAUSED THIS DEFECT IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE.

STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WAS COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, A CRACK AND LEAK IN THE PLASTIC SUPPLY LINE OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS FOUND. THIS CAUSED FUEL TO SPILL AND SETTLE ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK WHICH RESULTS IN A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. THIS IS SIMILAR TO A PREVIOUS RECALL (12V459000) ON 2007, 2008, 2009 GM VEHICLES THAT DID NOT INCLUDE CADILLAC. *TR

DRIVING UP A HILL IN PA. WE WERE ON STATE HIGHWAY 118 NEAR SWEET VALLEY PA. CAR BUCKED AND JERKED VIOLENTLY. CAR STOPPED RUNNING IN MIDDLE OF ROADWAY WITH TRAFFIC BACKED UP BEHIND ME. EVENTUALLY CARS WORKED THEIR WAY BY ME AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT CAR BACK TO A PLACE WHERE I COULD GET IT OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY. VERY HARROWING EXPERIENCE. VERY UNSAFE. CAR WAS TOWED IN AS IT WOULD NOT RESTART. TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO TRIED TO RESTART TO MOVE CAR TO OPTIMUM PLACE TO PUT CAR ON FLATBED. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER DIAGNOSIS THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT: CAR ONLY HAD 3 GALLONS OF GAS IN TANK AND THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH TO GET UP HILL. GAS GAUGE SHOWED BETWEEN 1/8 TO 1/4 OF TANK. NO LOW FUEL LIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT THAT IT COULD. AFTER RETURNING TO MY HOME IN FL I TOOK IT TO THE SELLING DEALER. THEY CALLED CADILLAC AND CADILLAC AGREED WITH BOTH DEALERSHIPS THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG BUT THAT DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE GAS TANK, THE CAR COULD STALL GOING UP A HILL AT ANY TIME UNLESS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS WAS IN THE TANK. THEY WOULD NOT DEFINE SIGNIFICANT. THEY SAID THAT GAS HAD SLOSHED TO THE REAR OF THE GAS TANK AND THE GAS PICKUP WAS SUCKING AIR. THEY SAY THAT AFTER CAR WAS TOWED 30 MILES ON A FLATBED GAS SLOSHED TO THE FRONT OF TANK AND ENGINE COULD BE STARTED. THEY SAID THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THIS IS A VERY, VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. THE GUY BEHIND US ALMOST HIT US AS WE DECELERATED RAPIDLY. AND THEN A WHOLE LINE OF CARS ALMOST COLLIDED. CADILLAC SAYS THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 CTS, WITH NO ADVANCE NOTICE, THE ENGINE JUST DIED. IT SEEMED TO RUN OUT OF GAS. MY FUEL GAUGE READ BETWEEN 1/2 TO 3/4 FULL. THIS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. ALL 3 TIMES I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM. ALL 3 TIMES I GOT DIFFERENT REASONS IT HAPPENED, FROM BAD FUEL PUMP IN GAS TANK, TO SOME TYPE OF BAD CONNECTION, ETC. AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE 3RD TIME, I DEMANDED A NEW CAR, WHICH I RECEIVED.
