BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY. FLUID LEAKED FROM SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES. LUCKILY, I WAS ON A 25MPH RD NEAR HOME. BARELY STOPPED WITH FULL PRESSURE ON PEDAL. I WAS HEADED FOR HIGHWAY AND AM VERY LUCKY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THERE. GM BRAKE LINE CORROSION IS A SCANDAL. 30 YEARS IN CAR BUSINESS AND I NEVER SAW THIS ON ANY OTHER CAR.
BRAKE LINE BURST DUE TO CORROSION, LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULATOR, DURING PANIC BRAKING SITUATION WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN. VEHICLE CAME WITHIN INCHES FROM REAR ENDING A SMALL CAR FULL OF PEOPLE. AS A PREVIOUS OWNER OF A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, OF WHICH I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE, AND SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL, I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE NHTSA AS A RESULT OF THE "GM BRAKE LINE INVESTIGATION" WHICH IN MY OPINION CAVED TO POLITICS IN ORDER NOT TO BANKRUPT GM. HOW MANY LIVES WILL BE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY INJURIES AND DEATH AS A RESULT OF NOT HAVING GM ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF USING GARBAGE MATERIALS FOR HYDRAULIC LINES? SHAME ON EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE DECISION TO CHALK THIS UP TO SALT CORROSION. AT THE TIME OF MY 2000 SILVERADO COMPLAINT, GM ASSURED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY 2008 CADILLAC SRX..... SILLY ME FOR BELIEVING THEM. I BEG YOU TO REOPEN THE INVESTIGATION. THIS ISSUE IS NOT IMPACTING JUST PICKUPS.
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2008 CADILLAC HAVE RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL, AND CAUSE OTHER DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM LINE OF THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CADILLAC SRX. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A RATTLING SOUND IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT BOTH FRONT CALIPERS WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR COSTS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,300. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,350.
1. NO BRAKING WHEN START CADILLAC SRX 2008 AFTER SITTING FOR MORE THAN 3 HOURS. JUNE 2009 2. TOOK TO DEALER-THEY REPLACED PADS AND TOLD ME IT WAS REPAIRED. JUNE 2009 3. NEXT DAY, NO BRAKES AGAIN, RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY INFORMED THAT A BRAKE PUMP NEEDED TO BE PUT ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO MANUFACTURING FLAW. HAD THEM ORDER PART, BUT DID NOT COME IN PRIOR TO RETURNING TO HOME TOWN. REFUSED TO FORWARD PART TO MY DEALER.JUNE 2009 4. TOOK CAR TO MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD NO SUCH PART EXISTED. JULY 2009 5. TOOK CAR BACK 3 TIMES TO MY DEALER AND WAS FINALLY TOLD THERE WAS A PART TO ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SEPT 2009 6. GM OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR BRAKE SYSTEM AND COMPONENTS. ACCEPTED BECAUSE THOUGHT PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF. OCTOBER 2009 7. JUNE 2010 PROBLEM RECURRED. 8. JULY 2010 WAS TOLD PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF. WENT TO PICK UP CAR. TEST DROVE WITH TECHNICIAN AND BRAKES STILL DID NOT WORK PROPERLY EVEN WITH NEW PUMP AND OTHER PARTS THEY HAD INSTALLED. HAVE BEEN WITHOUT CAR OVER A MONTH AND STILL NOT WORKING. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND ONLY OCCURS ON INITIAL START AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. SO FAR HAVE RUN OVER CURB AT OFFICE NEARLY HITTING AN ONCOMING CAR, ALMOST RAN OVER MY GRANDSON WHEN PULLING OUT OF GARAGE AND ALMOST HIT A CAR IN PARKING LOT DUE TO NON STOPPING OF VEHICLE. THE BRAKES ARE UNRELIABLE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. GM DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AFTER OVER A YEAR. *TR
