I PURCHASED THE CAPTIVA AFTER MY VAN WAS TOTALED, IN FEB 2017, PROBLEMS STARTED IN APRIL, CAR WOULD DIE, EVERYWHERE, DRS OFFICE, GROCERY STORE, DRIVEWAYS, LIBRARY, RESTAURANTS, RAIN, SNOW, DAY OR NIGHT. COULD NOT TAKE KEY OUT, GEAR FROZE IN PARK, NO ELECTRICAL WORKING AT ALL, AT 1ST CAR WOULD START AFTER A WHILE, THEN IT WOULD NOT, CALLED AAA, NO 1 COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I HAVE SPENT $453.00 WITH NO RESULTS, USED UP MY FREE CALLS FROM AAA PLUS. EVERY MECHANIC HAD A DIFFERENT REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. BOUGHT CAR AT A CARFAX...THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING....TOOK CAR TO CHEVY DEALER, THEY COULD DO NOTHING AS THEY HAD NOT SOLD THAT MANY CAPTIVAS, WOULD CHECK IT FOR $500.00. I WROTE TO CHEVROLET TO TELL THEM OF THE PROBLEM, WAS TOLD VERY NICELY THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I HAD NOT TAKEN THE CAR INTO A DEALERSHIP SOONER. THEY COULD DO NOTHING, I COULD PAY THE $500.00 MAYBE WITH NO RESULTS. I KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS...1 OF THE MECHANICS SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE LEFT HAND NODE ON THE BATTERY..NOW I START THE CAR BY HITTING THE RED PLASTIC COVER!!! I AM A 84 YRS OLD F, LIVE ALONE & WORK. SO FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE I WILL BE DOING THIS TO START THE CAR. HAVE HAD GMA & CHEVY CARS ALL MY LIFE, I WILL TELL ALL MY FAMILY (20) NEVER BUY GM. I CANNOT EVEN SELL THIS LEMON EVEN IF I COULD AFFORD IT. I AM REPORTING THIS TO THE BBB AND TO CONSUMER PROTECTION.
MY 2012 CHEVY CAPTIVA SPORT SHUTS OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING IT! MY RADIO TURNS OFF AND ON, SO DOES MY A/C. MY KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS COME ON, DIES COMPLETELY. WE'VE REPLACED THE BATTERY QUITE A FEW TIMES WITHIN A TWO YEAR PERIOD. IT IS NOT THE BATTERY. WE TOOK IT IN TO A CERTIFIED CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH ENDED UP WITH ZERO RESULTS. SUPPOSEDLY THE CAUSE OF THESE ISSUES CANNOT BE FOUND. MY CAR HAS DIED OUT ON ME WHILE I'M DRIVING! I NEED ANSWERS OR SUGGESTIONS A.S.A.P. GM IS NOT BEING COOPERATIVE. I AM SO SCARED TO DRIVE MY ONLY CAR!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR DISPLAYED "SERVICE AIR BAG". THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION WHEN VEHICLE IS IN PARK. THIS IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. STARTED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. NORMALLY YOU HAVE TO RUN THROUGH THE GEARS SEVERAL TIMES OR RESTART. NOW IT'S MUCH HARDER AND TAKES LONGER TO GET THE KEY OUT. ALSO, THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT ELECTRICAL ISSUES. WE REPLACED A THE BATTERY AND STILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT TURNS ON, STABILITY-TRACK LIGHT COMES ON, A/C GOES ON AND OFF AND BLINKERS, CRUISE AND ALL DASH LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, AS WELL AS RADIO GOING ON AND OFF. WHEN THIS GOT REALLY BAD, I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY AND THEN EVERYTHING SEEMED TO RESET AND WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS BUT STARTED AGAIN. THIS STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO BUT THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO
CAN NOT REMOVE KEY WHEN VEHICLE IS IN PARK MOST OF THE TIMES NOW
OIL CONSUMPTION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (MARTIN CHEVROLET, 8800 GRATIOT RD, SAGNINAW MI 48609) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED ON DECEMBER 3, 2016 THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON JANUARY 25, 2018. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PISTONS, RINGS, AND WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 8-3844130010. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,390.
MY CAPTIVA HAS APPROX 40,000 MILES ON IT, IT RANDOMLY WILL NOT START, THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I CALLED AAA, THEN WHILE WAITING FOR TRIPLE AAA, I TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT TURNED ON. IT RANDOMLY HAPPENS AND WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, I CANNOT GET THE KEY OUT AND IT GETS STUCK. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. ALSO, THE RADIO RANDOMLY DOESN'T WORK OR, RANDOMLY ALL THE STATIONS ARE CHANGED, THE REMOTE KEY OPENER DOESN'T WORK WHEN ALL THIS IS HAPPENING AS WELL. IN 2015 THE AC WAS NOT WORKING, IT TOOK THREE DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS TO FINALLY FIX IT, THE BATTERY HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED. THIS MORNING THE KEY GOT LOCKED IN, NEVER RETURNED TO BEING ABLE TO START. WHEN I CALLED DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM I'M HAVING IT TOWED IN THEY SAID THE CAR HAS TO BE SHOWING THE "SYMPTOMS" BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, SO TODAY SINCE IT NEVER WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND THE KEY IS STILL STUCK IN IGNITION I AM HAVING IT TOWED IN. I'M ASSUMING ITS ELECTRICAL RELATED, I SURE HOPE THE AIR BAGS AREN'T AFFECTED BY ALL THIS, IT'S BAD ENOUGH NEVER KNOWING IF THE CAR'S GOING TO START OR NOT. *TR
ONCE YOU TURN OFF THE VEHICLE THE KEY STAYS IN ACC AND DOES NOT COME OUT OF STEERING WHEEL COLUMB. SO YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG BATTERY IF YOU ARE OUT OF THE VEHICLE FOR ALONG TIME OR YOUR BATTERY WILL GO DEAD.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. AFTER HAVING IT CHECKED BY A LOCAL CERTIFIED MECHANIC, IT WENT OFF BUT CAME BACK ON DAYS LATER. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND I COULD NOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE SWITCH. I CALLED AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO VICTORY CHEVROLET IN CHARLOTTE, N.C. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR OVER ONE WEEK AND KEPT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING UNTIL THEY REPLACED MOST OF MY ELECTRICAL PARTS. WHEN I ASKED HOW MUCH THIS WOULD COST, I WAS ASKED IF I HAD A PRICE IN MIND. I SAID, "I DON'T WANT TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS." HE SAID, "YOU HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS." HE CONTINUED TO FIND MORE?? AND BEGAN TO TELL ME A NUMBER OF THINGS. THREE YEARS AGO, I HAD A TRAILER HITCH INSTALLED AND HE TRIED TO BLAME MY PROBLEMS ON THAT. I HAVE NEVER USED THE HITCH AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THE FOLKS WHO INSTALLED IT, AS I HAVE DONE BUSINESS WITH THEM IN THE PAST. AFTER A PERIOD OF OVER ONE WEEKS TIME, THE SERVICE MAN CALLED ME WITH A PRICE FOR THE REPAIRS OF ALMOST 2500 DOLLARS. I FEEL THIS WAS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT AND FEEL THAT THEY WERE MILKING ME FOR WHATEVER THEY COULD GET. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO LOCK UP AND NOT ALLOW ME TO TAKE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, CAUSING ME TO HAVE IT TOWED EARLIER TO THE DEALERSHIP. I FEEL ROBBED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE FOR ANYTHING. I WILL FIND ANOTHER KIND OF CAR FOR MY PERSONAL AND BUSINESS LIFE. I WAS HAPPY WITH MY CAPTIVA WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND BRAGGED ABOUT IT TO EVERYONE BUT ALL OF THAT HAS CHANGED . WE RESEARCHED THIS CAR AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON YOUR WEB-SIGHT. WHY HAS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEEN CORRECTED OR RECALLED? I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CHEVROLET PERSON, PREFERRING THEM OVER OTHERS BUT WILL CONSIDER SOME OTHER CAR IN THE FUTURE. IS THIS YOUR FAULT? I THINK SO AND HOPE YOU WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
THE CAR WILL NOT START, KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. WE HAVE JUMPED IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND FOR NO REASON THE CAR WILL NOT START AGAIN. THE BATTERY WAS GOOD, HAD IT CHECKED. 4TH TIME SINCE THE START OF 2016. RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO, POWER , I CAN'T EVEN GET THE INDOOR LIGHTS ON. IT IS GOING BACK TO THE MECHANIC. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, (IN MY CAR PORT).
THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON AND WE STARTED DRIVING AND THEN CAR IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE OUT, AND WE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN. THEN AFTER WE WERE DRIVING THE CAR IT STOPPED AND LOCKED UP ALL THE DOORS KEYS NOTHING WORKED AS WE WERE DRIVING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THE POLICE AND TOW TRUCK WERE CALLED AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER GOT THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND HE GOT THE VEHICLE TO START AGAIN. THEN WE DROVE TO A NEARBY GAS STATION AND IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AGAIN WHEN WE WERE ENTERING THE GAS STATION WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 4 DAYS UNTIL IT DID ALL THIS WHILE DRIVING. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT CAME FROM. IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 5 DAYS FROM THE 15TH OF JULY WENT THE TOW TRUCK BROUGHT IT THERE UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US IT WAS OK TO COME PICK THE VEHICLE BACK UP ON JULY 20TH. THEY EXPLAIN TO US THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AS TO WHY THIS ALL HAPPENED. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO BRING IT BACK.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN FEBRUARY. IN MARCH THE RADIO STARTED GOING OFF AND ON SOMETIMES WHEN BLINKER IS TURNED ON SOMETIMES NOT. TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON FOR NO REASON. ONE DAY JUST STARTED ACTING LIKE BATTERY WAS GOING DEAD. TURNED IT OFF COULD NOT GET KEY OUT OF EGNITION. HAD IT TOLLED TO CHEVY SAID IT WAS MY BATTERY. 400.00 HUNDRED FOR THAT TRIP .THAT WAS THE 4TH TIME IN SHOP IN TWO MONTHES. THIS IS THE THIRD BATTERY IN 4 YEARS. HAD IT REPLACED IN APRIL. IT STARTED THE SAME THING LAST WEEK RADIO, LIGHTS GO DIM, TONIGHT GET HOME AGAIN KEY STUCK IN EGNITION. THE SAME THINGS I HAVE READ ABOUT HAPPENING TO OTHER CAPTIVA . MY HUSBAND READ ON OTHER SITE TO MOVE ELECTION SEATS UP AND DOWN AND KEY WOULD COME OUT HE TRIED IT AND IT WORKED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP MORE THEN I HAVE DROVE IT. I BOUGHT THE EXTRA WARRANTY BUT IT DIDN'T HELP. ONE MECHANIC SAID IT COULD BE THE BATTERY CABLE IN WHICH THE EXTRA WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER COST FOR CABLE IS 600.00. JUST SPENT 400.00 ON BATTERY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I WISH I WOULD HAVE LOOKED AT CONSUMER REVEIWS. 13,00.00 DOLLAR MISTAKE. BACK IN THE SHOP AND DEPENDING ON A RIDE AGAIN! OH AND EXTRA WARRANTY NOT WORTH IT STILL HAD TO PAY TO HAVE CAR TOLLED TO SHOP ,AND TO HAVE IT ANALYSISED. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A FORD.
MY CAPTIVA DID NOT WANT TO START. THE KEY WAS LOCKED IN THE IGNITION. ALL THE LIGHTS WERE OFF AND THERE WAS NO LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FOR A MINUTE AND THEN PLUGGED IT BACK ON TO THE BATTERY. WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR THE HORN STARTED HONKING AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON. I DEACTIVATED THE ALARM WITH THE REMOTE ON THE KEY BUT ACCIDENTLY HIT THE LOCK BUTTON. I STATED THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO CLOSE THE HOOD. BUT WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR THE DOORS HAD LOCKED AND MY VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. I HAD TO BREAK THE WINDOW BECAUSE MY YEAR OLD BABY WAS IN THE CAR. MY WIFE COMPLAINED THAT THE RADIO WILL SOME TIMES TURN OFF AND THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS WILL COME ON. ONE IS THE TRACTION CONTROL NEED TO BE SERVICED AND ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. ALSO THE SERVICE LIGHT WILL TURN ON. ALSO THE LIGHTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE WILL DIM AT TIMES. MY WIFE ALSO COMPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL STALL ON HER AND SHUT OFF ON HER ONCE. SHE WAS IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE CHURCH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND STOPPED ON HER. I HAVE READ FORUMS AND CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF OTHER CAPTIVA SUV'S HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONES SUGGESTING THAT ITS THE BATTERY CABLES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT COULD BE A REAL PROBLEM IF THESE VEHICLES START TO STALL ON BUSY HIGHWAYS. TAKATA RECALL-I BOUGHT MY 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA LS IN MARCH 2013. ON JUNE 20, THE CAR WENT ON A TRIP TO BRANSON, MO.WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE AC STARTED BLOWING DRY VAPOR FROM THE VENTS-NO COLD AIR. ALSO THE LIGHT FOR THE SHIFTING GEARS P,N,R &D WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SHOP. NO PROB. FOUND. THEN ON JULY 6, 2014,THE CAR WENT TO WISCONSIN. I HAD THE CAR N SHOP ON JULY 2 BEFORE THE TRIP TO MAKE SURE THAT AC WAS WORKING GOOD. THEY SAID THAT THEY FOUND NO PROB. WHILE ON THE TRIP THE AC DID THE SAME THING-NO AC & THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON TO B SERVICED. THEN ON APRIL 2016, THE CAR WENT TO FLORIDA. THE AC ACTED UP AGAIN- DRY VAPORS FROM AC VENTS & NO COOL AIR. THE DRIVER LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD & SAW THAT THE ALUM. PIPE TO THE AC HAD ICE ON IT. THE AC HAD FROZEN UP. HE ALSO SAID THAT WHEN DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, THE RPMS ARE HIGHER THAN WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN IN TOWN OR WITHIN 30 MIN. ON HIGHWAY SO THE AC PROB. DOESN'T HAPPEN. THE DRIVER IS A MECHANIC. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 18, 2016 TO MAKE AN APPT. TO GET THEM TO FIX THE AC. ALSO THE DASH LIGHT COMES ON TO SAY SERVICE THE AIR BAG. HOPEFULLY IT WILL B FIXED THIS TIME, THE 3RD TIME! AS OF THIS DATE, I HAVE NO APPT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITH AN OCCUPANT PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
KEY STICKS IN IGNITION AND WILL NOT COME OUT WHEN IN PARK. AT TIMES CAR WILL NOT EVEN SHUT OFF. IGNITION WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. LESS THAN 3,000 MILES AND IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION UNLESS YOU RESTART THE CAR. HAVE MOVED THE SHIFTER AND STEERING WHEEL AND PUSHED THE KEY IN AS ADVISED BY DEALERSHIP. STILL NOT WORKING. ALSO, STABLITRACK AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON PERIODICALLY WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE CAR TO JUMP AND BUCK. DEALERSHIP ADVISED TO TURN OFF TRACTION CONTROL, BUT WHILE THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE CAR IS JERKING, YOU CANNOT DEACTIVATE. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS AN ENGINE MISFIRE PROBLEM BUT NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO WARRANT TAKING CAR APART TO FIX.
THIS CAR IS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. DRIVING STEADY BETWEEN 30-45MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL JERK LIKE THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS HAVING PROBLEMS. DURING SLOW SPEED DRIVING SUCH AS A TRAFFIC JAM < 20MPH THE CAR WILL JERK INTO GEARS. DURING SLOW SPEEDS OF ABOUT 10MPH IF I STEP ON THE GAS THE CAR LAGS, NOSEDIVES A LITTLE, AND THEN TAKES OFF. GENERALLY SHIFTING IS VERY JERKY.
CANNOT REMOVE KEY WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF. HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR TO GET THE KEY OUT. I SEE THIS IN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLETS OF ALL MODELS!
I WAS DRIVING, GOING AROUND 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY 684 TOWARDS WHITE PLAINS, NY. HEARD A VERY LOUD SOUND, RAISED MY EYES SLIGHTLY UPWARD TO THE RIGHT TO DISCOVER MY SUNROOF SHATTERED. SOME OF IT FELL INTO THE CAR LEAVING A HOLE . THE GLASS REMAINING, LOOKED AS THOUGH THERE WAS A PRESSURE BUILD UP INSIDE OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS RAISED TOWARDS THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE ALSO FAILED TO START AS THE THEFT ALARM INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A THEFT MODULE MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 2015 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AROUND 5:30 PM MY CHARGING SYSTEM SIGNAL CAME ON AND MY AC STOPPED WORKING. I FIGURED THE CHARGING SYSTEM SIGNAL WAS AN INDICATION THAT MY AC HAD BROKEN AND I RESOLVED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR. TEN (10) MINUTES AFTER THE CHARGING SYSTEM SIGNAL CAME ON MULTIPLE SIGNAL LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD STARTED FLASHING AND IMMEDIATELY MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND STARTED DECELERATING. THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING SEVENTY (70) MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I WAS ALSO IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO STEER MY CAR TO A RAMP WITHOUT BEING COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER CAR. AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY I NARROWLY AVOIDED COLLIDING WITH A CAR THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND I SWERVED JUST BARELY AVOIDING ROLLING INTO A DITCH. MY CAR CAME TO A HALT ALONG THE SIDE OF AN OFF-RAMP WHERE MY IT SAT FOR NEARLY TWO (2) HOURS, JUST BARELY OUT OF THE REACH OF EXITING TRUCKS AND CARS, AS I WAITED FOR AAA. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A HENDRICK CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT MY ALTERNATOR WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FEE WAS NINE HUNDRED FOURTEEN DOLLARS AND NINETY NINE CENTS ($914.99). I ASKED THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHY THIS HAPPENED AND IF I COULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO PREVENT IT. HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT A DEALERSHIP COULD HAVE DETECTED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS GOING BAD AND THAT FURTHER COMMENTED THAT HE WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD GONE BAD WHEN MY CAR AT ITS LOW MILEAGE.

RADIO GOES OFF WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNALS AND SOMETIMES DOES NOT COME BACK ON. HEADLIGHTS DIM WHEN OPEN/CLOSE WINDOWS, DASH BOARD LIGHTS FLICKER, PARKING BREAK SERVICE LIGHT GOES ON/OFF RANDOMLY, CAR IS COMPLETELY DEAD WHEN YOU TRY TO RESTART IT AND THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. SOMETIMES CAR WILL RESTART OTHER TIMES IT NEEDS TO BE JUMPED TO START IT. BATTERY POSITIVE POST IS HOT TO THE TOUCH EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS DEAD FOR OVER 24 HRS.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. IT STAYED ON FOR 8 MILES THEN SWITCHED OFF. I WAS DOING APPROX 68 MPH WHEN IT CAME ON, TURNED OFF WHEN I SLOWED DOWN AT 50 FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION. HAD JUST PICKED THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER THAT MORNING AFTER HAVING A REAR AXLE BOOT/SHAFT SOMETHING LIKE THAT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.
I GOT INTO MY CAR AND CLOSED THE DOOR. I DON'T RECALL IF I HAD PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION YET, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD "BOOM" SOUND LIKE THAT OF A EXPLOSION. I TURNED AROUND AND LOOKED AT MY REAR WINDOW THERE WAS ABOUT A 1 FOOT WHOLE AND THE REMAINDER OF THE WINDOW IS SHATTERED WAITING TO CAVE IN. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED, THE FORCE BLEW THE MOLDING OFF ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDOW AND IT AND MULTIPLE PIECES OF SHATTERED GLASS WERE ON THE GROUND. MY NEIGHBORS AND I JUST STOOD THERE AND LOOKED BECAUSE WE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE. THANKFULLY I HAD NOT PULLED OFF YET, AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.

MY 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA SPORT 2LS IGNITION SWITCH IS FAULTY. THE KEY IS NOT REMOVABLE FROM IGNITION TO TURN VEHICAL OFF, IT STOPS IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION. SAFTY CONCERN IS THAT THE VEHICLE COULD POSSIBLY BECOME DISABLED NOT ALLOWING RESTART OF ENGINE OR INABILITY FOR THE KEY TO BE REMOVED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE SHIFTED FORM PARK INTO GEAR. IT WOULD ALSO DRAIN THE POWER FROM THE BATTERY NOT ALLOWING IT TO BE RESTARTED. DEALERSHIP IS STATING THAT THERE WAS TO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE KEY RING, ONLY THE FACTORY KEY FOB IS ON THE KEY RING.
VEHICLE DRIVEN IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREA WHEN WITHOUT WARNING SLOWLY LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. INITIAL ATTEMPT TO START VEHICLE FAILED. AFTER SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPTS THE VEHICLE STARTED ONLY TO GRADUALLY LOSE POWER AND STALLED AGAIN. ABLE TO ROLL VEHICLE OFF MAIN STREET ONTO SIDE STREET AND CALLED AAA. WHILE WAITING FOR AAA I DISCONNECTED BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLES WAITED 10 MINUTES AND RECONNECTED. VEHICLE STARTED BUT WHEN MOVED IT AGAIN LOST POWER AND STALLED. AAA ARRIVED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED AND WAS DRIVEN ONTO THE FLATBED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY HOME AND WHEN THE OPERATOR ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE FLAT BED IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE OPERATOR WAS ABLE TO START AND DRIVE VEHICLE OFF THE FLAT BED. WE HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE WE ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHILE IN MOTION OR AT STOPPED-WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNAL, CRUISE CONTROL, AND BRAKES THE ELECTRICAL PANEL (INCLUDING RADIO, DASH LIGHTS, AND SIGNALS TURN OFF FOR 3-5 SECONDS. I TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPLACEMENT OF BRAKES ON 2/17/15. ON 2/18/15, LATER IN THE NIGHT, THE KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM IGNITION AT ALL. I HAVE VEHICLE AT DEALER AS OF 2/20/15 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND AWAITING THE RESULTS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS THE SAME GM PROBLEM WITH IGNITION SWITCH FOR OTHER MODELS THAT ARE BEING "RECALLED." CALLED FOR A JUMP BUT BEFORE THE PERSON CAME THE CAR STARTED OUT OF THE BLUE. I NEVER ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN BUT HAD INADVERTENTLY LEFT THE SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION. I TOOK THE CAR INTO GOOD CHEVROLET FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR'S BRAINS WERE BASICALLY SCRAMBLED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PCM, BANK 1 SENSOR 2 OXYGEN SENSORS WERE REPLACED AND THAT ALL CODES WERE CLEARED AND THAT THE REPAIR WAS VERIFIED. I PICK THE CAR UP ON 8/14/14 DROVE IT ON 8/15/14 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND ALL POWER WAS LOST. AGAIN I SAT THERE AND WAITED AND ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES LATER THE CAR STARTED. THIS TIME THE CAR SHOW ADDITIONAL ISSUES. THE LIGHTS WHERE THE RPMS ARE SHOWN FLICKERS ON AND OFF, THE CAR SPUTTERS, TRYING TO GET UP TO A CERTAIN SPEED IS TAXING AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE THERE IS A RATTLING COUPLED WITH A SQUEALING SOUND. TODAY IS 8/16/14 AND I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR BACK INTO GOOD CHEVROLET ONCE AGAIN FOR SERVICE. I BOUGHT THE SUV IN DEC. 2013. SINCE THIS TIME THE CAR HAS FAILED TO START TWICE. EACH TIME I HAD THE BATTERY BOOST AND THE CAR STARTED. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK INTO MUNDAY CHEVERLOT. I HAD THE EXACT SAME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AS THE PREVIOUS PERSON. TWICE NOW, WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD FLASH, THE RADIO WOULD GO DEAD AND ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULD COME ON.
