Power steering was lost while driving, speedometer stopped working and will not shift from low. Other sources say there has been a recall.
I started up my car and it was very hard to turn the wheel easier when I gained speed. The warning said "Power Steering"
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while parked, the contact attempted to open the driver's side door; however, the door failed to open. Additionally, the window failed to operate as needed. The contact had to exit the vehicle through the passenger's side door. The contact attempted to unlock the door from the outside however, the door failed to open. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Ignition switch had a previous recall, but now the ignition switch won’t turn the car on on the first 5-10 switches with any keys, or spare keys. Steering wheel shakes/wobbles when exceeding over 50mph.
ABS light lit, Traction light lit, power steering light lit, car jerking, not shifting. Stalling.
My mother owned this 2005 chevrolet cobalt 4D (vin # stated above). The power steering seemed to have quit working, as it was very hard to turn the steering wheel. On Dec.28, 2021 she (& my 2 daughters) were turning left & her car was hit by another car on the right front (passenger side), front 1/4 panel. The car was spun around several times. My mother was temporarily knocked unconscience & then came to. Car was totalled out. (Doctor ignored to perform a head scan instead he scanned her back). My mother bled on her brain for 3 months & died. It was very devastating
I have a fuel leak by the left rear tire possibly a corroded fuel line. I smelled gas for two days. The leak was by the exhaust. My children and I could of been killed.
My husband was driving and the car suddenly stopped taking gas and said reduced engine power. He got it back home as it was only a few miles but top speed was less than 10 mph. It never did run right anymore and then completely stopped a few days later. Also the key gets stuck in the car if the battery goes dead. I had to leave the key in with the window down because I was scared of getting locked out. When my husband was able to come and charge the battery some it released the key. It never had any issues like these until they suddenly started. These issues showed up in summer 2021. Codes mentioned general electrical failure, throttle control issues with pedal and tac module. High and low voltage to tac module.
The tcm in my 5 cobalt is not working properly I've tested and replaced everything els and had the tcm reprogrammed still getting problems aiming back to the tcm it wasn't looked at by a business

THE TRACTION CONTROL AND POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRANSMISSION MADE AN ABNORMAL CLICKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SEVERAL YEARS PRIOR AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC GROUNDED OUT THE TRACTION CONTROL MODULE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE SWAY BAR, CONTROL ARMS, & BUSHINGS WERE ALL FAULTY. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WILL HAVE TO BE REBUILT DUE TO SUBPAR PARTS BEING USED IN MANUFACTURING.
THE 2013 POWER ASSIST MODULE (DUE TO PROBLEMS AND RECALL) THAT WAS INSTALLED IN MY CAR BACK AT THAT TIME-THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2015--WELL BEFORE I PURCHASED MYCAR WHICH WAS 2018. POWER STEERING PROBLEMS HAVE RETURNED AS I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR DUE TO LACK OF POWER STEERING-CANNOT DRIVE EVEN IN MY DRIVEWAY.. THIS, OBVIOUSLY, IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND ANOTHER RECALL NEEDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED ESPECIALLY WHEN THOSE OF US CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT IS THE MANUFACTURER'S AND/OR MANUFACTURERS' FAULT. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION CAR SHUT OFF. THIS LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. I CALLED CHEVY DEALERSHIP TODAY AND WAS NOTIFIED IGNITION SWITCH WAS ALREADY REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY AND THAT I MAY BE CHARGED A DIAGNOSTIC FEE IF I BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR.
MY 05 CHEVY COBALT STARTED LEAKING FUEL FROM THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK. I HAVE READ ONLINE OF RECALLS ON THE 08 COBALTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE.
FUEL LEAK UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE, JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR WHEEL. LEAK IS NEAR EXHAUST, HEAT SHIELDING FROM FACTORY CAUSED FUEL LINE TO RUST AND LEAK.
MY 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT HAS DEVELOPED A GASOLINE LEAK FROM A POINT ROUGHLY A FOOT IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLES LEFT/DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE. THE LEAK TAKES THE FORM OF GAS DRIPPING FROM THE ABOVE MENTIONED POINT WHILE THE CAR'S ENGINE IS ON. THE DRIP CONTINUES FOR SEVERAL MINS AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF BUT THEN STOPS.
CAR SHUTS OFF AND LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING AND THE KEY KEEPS GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOORS KEEP LOCKING AND UNLOCKING CONSTANTLY UNTIL IT LOSES POWER AGAIN AFTER CHANGING THE BATTERY
POWER STEERING LOCKS IN AND OUT BY ITSELF CAUSING THE CAR TO SHIFT HARD AND DOESNT WANT TO IDLE BUT WHEN STEERING IS WORKING CORRECTLY IT RUNS LIKE A NEW CAR PLEASE HELP

UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,087.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HER LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE ON WAS UNKNOWN.
FUEL LINE LEAK BY THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AT BODY MOUNT. SIMILAR TO WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECENT RELEASE REGARDING THE 2008-2010 COBALT FUEL LEAK ISSUE. THE INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO 2005 AS WELL.

THE CONTACT REPLACED THE RACK AND PINON. THE CONTACT CONTACTED AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEIR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE PART HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WILL FLASH ON MY DASH AND MY CAR WILL START TO JERK AGGRESSIVELY. IF I CAN'T PULL OVER AND I DRIVE FOR JUST A WHILE TO FIND SOMEWHERE TO PULL OVER, MY CAR WILL STOP MOVING AND START GOING BACKWARDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I HAD AN O2 SENSOR REPLACED WHICH STOPPED THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT FOR A WHILE BUT IT STARTED BACK AGAIN. MY POWER STEERING WILL ALSO GO OUT AS I START THE CAR, FORCING ME TO TURN THE CAR, WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND START IT AGAIN. IT CAN GO ON FOR A WHILE AND MULTIPLE MECHANICS HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT THEY CAN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE TO WAIT 30 SECONDS BEFORE I CAN DRIVE MY CAR, WHICH CAN MAKE ME LATE TO PLACES IF I HAVE TO DO IT MULTIPLE TIMES, IF I DON'T WAIT THEN THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT ON ME AND IT CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE. LAST YEAR, IT WENT OUT WHILE I WAS GOING 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND I COULDN'T GO ANYWHERE TO PULL OVER, I'M LUCKY I DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
MY FRONT LEFT AXLE FELL OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING HOME THE TOW MAN SAID THAT SOME THING RUSTED OUT THAT HOLDS THE AXLE UP A METAL BAR IS RUSTED ALL THE WAY THREW
I GOT THE CAR A FEW YEARS AGO ONLY DROVE IT FOR 5 MONTHS FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE CAR TO GO NASSAU BAHAMAS. THEY NEVER SHIP IT FOR ME .THEY PAID THE IGNITION REPAIRS NEVER GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR. THEN I CALLED BACK A FEW MONTHS ABOUT A WARRANTY SAY 60,000 MILES OR 5 YEAR THEY TELL ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE SAME THING. SO I STARTED CHECKING COME TO FIND ALL KINDA LAW SUIT ON THAT TYPE MODEL. THEY WANT THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. I ASKED THEM TO PAY OUT THE CAR. CAN'T GET A RESPONSE. THEY OPEN BUT THE BAHAMAS OFFICE CLOSED FROM COVID-19. STILL HAVE TO WAIT ON A RESPONSE.*DT*JB *TR

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS ON THE FOREARM AND TEMPORARY HEARING LOSS DUE TO THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS SOUGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WIRING HARNESS DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE CLOCK SPRING WHICH CAUSED THE HORN AND SEVERAL OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE INOPERABLE. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE, CASE NUMBER: XXX. THE CONTACT WAS OFFERED A $2500 COMPENSATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75000. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT HAD MOISTURE BUILDUP INSIDE THE FIXTURE .PLUS THE FIXTURE HAD DISCOLORED AND FADED AND WAS NOT CLEAR. APPARENTLY THE SEALANT AROUND THE HEADLIGHT FIXTURE DID NOT MAKE A PERMANENT TIGHT SEAL THEREFORE WATER ENTERED INSIDE. AS A RESULT THE DAYTIME LIGHT WENT OFF AND ON AND THE SIGNAL LIGHT DID THE SAME. THE SAFETY ISSUE WAS WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET TURNING THE DRIVER FACING ME DID NOT KNOW I WAS SIGNALING AND THE DRIVER BEHIND ME SAW FAST SIGNAL LIGHTS FLASHING FROM MY CHEVY COBALT. I HAD MY COMPLETE HEADLIGHT LIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY A BODY SHOP AND THIS CORRECTED THE WHOLE PROBLEM. IT COST ME $173.52

THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

SO MUCH SO THAT GM HAS A BULLETIN TO MAKE REPAIRS FOR YEARS 2006-2009. WHY IS THE 2005 NOT COVERED? ITS THE SAME VEHICLE WITH THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. GAS IS LEAKING WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION WHILE DRIVER IS UNAWARE.
