TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH WITH HER FOOT HER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. SHE THEN LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE STEERING WHICH MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE, DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42312.
POWER STEERING JUST GOES OUT. THIS COULD BE DEADLY. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH 2005 CHEVY COBALT. *TR
AS MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SCHOOL, HER POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT ON AS THE WARNING BELLS IN HER DASH RANG. AT THAT POINT, SHE LOST ALL POWER STEERING IN HER CAR. SHE SAID THAT IT TOOK ALL OF HER STRENGTH TO MAKE THE REMAINING TURNS TO GET HOME. *TR
AT ROUGHLY 40,000 MILES AND 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, A PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT LOCK ON THE CAR WAS OBSERVED. AT FIRST, THE PROBLEM WAS LIMITED TO THE KEY BEING STUCK IN THE IGNITION EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK. AFTER EJECTING THE KEY WITH THE BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN, THE SHIFTER WOULD REMAIN IN PARK. EVENTUALLY, THE PROBLEM ESCALATED TO THE POINT THAT THE SHIFTER COULD BE MOVED FROM PARK TO OTHER GEARS WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, BUT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED AT THE TIME. A FEW MONTHS PASSED AFTER THE ESCALATED PROBLEM WAS FIRST OBSERVED WHERE THE SHIFTER BEHAVED AS INTENDED OR IN THE MANNER WHERE THE KEY WOULD NEED EJECTED BUT THE SHIFTER WOULD REMAIN IN PARK. AFTER A FAILURE IN POWER STEERING SYSTEM RESULTED IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE OWNER WITH THE GEARSHIFT BUTTON STUCK "DOWN." SINCE THEN, THE KEY REMAINS STUCK IN THE IGNITION UNLESS THE EJECTION BUTTON IS USED AND THE SHIFTER MOVES FREELY FROM PARK TO ANY OTHER GEAR EVEN WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION OR A FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT SUDDENLY GOES OUT. I HAVE FOUND THAT IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THEN THE POWER STEERING WILL RETURN FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY REAL ACCIDENT WITH IT TO DATE, BUT I CAN TESTIFY THAT THE POWER STEERING DOES GO OUT IN CHEVY COBALTS. IT'S PRETTY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THIS HAPPENS, AND I'M A GROWN MAN OF AVERAGE STRENGTH. *TR

THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AS HE WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND THE VEHICLE WAS VERY UNCONTROLLABLE WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT.THE GM MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED. PREVIOUSLY, THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE BEFORE THIS FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,437.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WITHIN SECONDS THE POWER STEERING FAILED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSIS LOCATED THE FAILURE AS THE POWER STEERING MOTOR , AND THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND STATED THAT IF SHE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE AGAIN THEY WOULD ALSO NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR THE POWER STEERING COLUMN WAS $1,000. THE REPAIR COST FOR THE MOTOR WAS $375.00. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 28,880.
2005 CHEVROLET COBALT, 28,880 MILES. PURCHASED NEW OFF SHOWROOM FLOOR IN JULY 2006. I AM THE ONLY OWNER. POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT MIGHT BE THE POWER STEERING BOX AND REPLACING IT COST ME $375.00 AND HALF A DAY OFF WORK. IF THIS DOESN'T WORK, I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS CAR HAS ONLY 28,880 MILES! *TR
THE POWER STEERING IS FAILING ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. I WILL BE DRIVING, A CHIME SOUNDS, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON TO RESET IT. I WILL THEN HAVE POWER STEERING FOR A SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE DRIVER NOTICED THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE DRIVER SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND UPON RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD RESET ITSELF. WITHIN MINUTES, THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER VERIFIED THE POWER STEERING AS WELL AS ANOTHER UNKNOWN PART HAD FAILED. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,500 AND THE CURRENT WAS 58,000.
2005 CHEVY COBALT...POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL...I HAVE A 14 MONTH OLD SON WHO WAS IN THE BACK SEAT AT THE TIME...THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO DAYS. VERY CONCERNED FOR MINE AND MY FAMILY'S SAFETY WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SIGNAL COMES ON WHEN DRIVING AND IT MAKES DRIVING VERY HARD TO STEER. IT LOCKS UP AND THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE MAKES IT HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL WHEN TURNING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING. STARTING ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY POWER STEERING WOULD RANDOMLY GO OUT, MOST OF THE TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN THE TEMP OUTSIDE GOT ABOVE 50. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I ALMOST HIT A CAR AND RAN OFF THE ROAD. I WENT AND HAD MY CAR FIXED FRIDAY AND PAID 500 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT FIXED. I FOUND OUT TODAY THERE WAS A RECALL BEING DONE. I CALLED THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND ALTHOUGH THE RECALL SAYS ITS FOR THE COBALT 05 TO 10, WHICH MINE IS AN 05, IT APPARENTLY DOES NOT HAVE THE VIN NUMBER OF THE ONES BEING RECALLED. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED ON WHAT COBALTS THEY ARE RECALLING BUT ITS REALLY ODD HOW MINE ONLY MESSES UP WHEN THE TEMP WAS OVER 50. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE POWER STEERING MOTOR UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTS SYSTEM) YET THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
POWER STEERING ISSUE WAS OBSERVED AT LOW SPEEDS BUT ALSO PRESENTED EXTREME LURCHING OF THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNINGS WERE PRESENT AT THE TIME THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING. VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. *TR

POWER STEERING STARTED TO GO OUT OCCASIONALLY. IT WOULD COME BACK ON IF I TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR. QUICKLY BECAME MORE FREQUENT. TOOK CAR IN AND GOT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR COMPONENT REPLACED, THEY KEPT THE OLD MOTOR. *TR
POWER STEERING COLUMN AND MOTOR REPLACED FOR OVER 1,000 DOLLARS ALSO BUSHING. ENGINES STALLS WHEN PRESSING GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL. KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT IGNITION AND MY CAR WOULDN'T STAY IN PARK. HAD TO PAY A LOCKSMITH TO REMOVE THE KEY. HEADLIGHTS KEEP HAVING TO BE ADJUSTED. WHEEL BEARING AND STRUTS NEED TO BE REPLACE BUT I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR ALL OF THESE REPAIRS FOR A 2005 VEHICLE. ITS TO MANY PROBLEMS FOR SUCH A NEWER VEHICLE. WHAT IS CHEVY GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS, HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR GET INJURED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT THE CONTACT TOOK THE KEY OUT THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE REMAINED ON UNTIL THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ENGAGED AFTER PUTTING THE KEY BACK INTO THE IGNITION. SEVERAL TIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START INSTEAD IT STALLED. THE CONTACT DID INFORM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED SINCE SHE HAS ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ONE MONTH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80129.

VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES DASH WARNING FOR POWER STEERING, MULTIPLE TIMES PER TRIP. STEERING GEAR AND STEERING COLUMN REPLACED. CUSTOMER WAS FEARFUL OF DRIVING, DUE TO NEARLY HITTING A VEHICLE IN THE NEXT LANE. *TR

THERE WAS DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED TO GREATER FORCE IN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION FOR A SHORT PERIOD TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
MY POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN ON A REGULAR BASIS. *TR
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY COBALT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING TURNING OFF IN PARKING LOTS WHILE I MADE FULL TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL. NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY TURNING OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. ITS REALLY RANDOM SOME TIMES IT SEEM TO NEVER WANT TO STAY ON AND SOMETIMES IT SEEM TO NOT AFFECT MY CAR AT ALL. SCARY THAT IT IS INCONSISTENT. I'M AWAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP. *TR

HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON. AT 300 YARDS THE VEHICLES POWER STEERING LOCKED AGAIN AND THE DUPLICATE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WILL BE CONTACTED TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY TIME HE DRIVES THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS TO THE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,800. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,025.
I HAVE A 2005 COBALT SS WITH 62K ON IT AND MY POWERSTEERING WENT OUT. *TR
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT ON A FREQUENT BASIS MAKING THE CAR VERY HARD TO TURN AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND CAUSE AND ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS INJURIES OR WORSE. I SEE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE AND THE LIST CONTINUES TO GROW ON A DAILY BASIS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WITHIN SECONDS THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT SHAKE OR MAKE A NOISE. SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF SO THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD RESET AND WITHIN FIVE MINUTES THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE STEERING FAILED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT IF THE MOTOR WAS ELECTRICAL AND THERE WAS A PROBLEM THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE MOTOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE FOR $391. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,418. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 48,847. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $391.00. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN WAS ALSO MAKING NOISE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 05/12/10.*JB
I WAS RIDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT THREE TIMES AND I CAN NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE.. I FELT THAT MY LIFE AND FAMILY WAS ENDANGERED. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS RUNNING AN ERRAND EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS (THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 45F) WHEN MY DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER WARNED OF A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. AT THE TIME I WAS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD ONLY GOING ABOUT 25MPH, SO WHEN I GOT TO THE UPCOMING STOP SIGN, I SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED MY CAR. I DROVE ANOTHER 5 MILES TO PICK UP SOME FOOD AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM UP TO THAT POINT. ON THE REMAINING MILE FROM THE FOOD STOP TO MY HOME, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT TWICE. I WAS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD GOING ABOUT 35MPH THE FIRST TIME, AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS PULLING INTO MY PARKING SPOT. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR SINCE THEN, AND AT THIS MOMENT I PLAN TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP MONDAY (IF THEY ARE NOT CLOSED FOR PRESIDENT'S DAY). THE REASON I AM REPORTING THIS TO NHTSA SORT OF PREMATURELY IS BECAUSE THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON OCCURRING PROBLEM BASED ON WHAT I FOUND AFTER LOOKING UP 'CHEVY, COBALT, POWER, STEERING' ON A SEARCH ENGINE. ONE ARTICLE ALONE HAD OVER 810 COMMENTS, ALL OWNERS OF THE SAME CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
FREQUENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN 2005 COBALT. HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY DAY WITHOUT NOTICE AND AT DIFFERENT TIMES. CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
2005 CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING FAILURE. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS BEGUN TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS. THE CAR IS INSIDE OF THE TIMELINE FOR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, BUT IS OVER MILES. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE POWER STEERING FAILURE, ENGINE STALLING, ROUGH SHIFTING, STRANGE MOVEMENTS OF THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. POWER STEERING LOSS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE ALSO STALL WHEN BRAKING. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT TODAY AND THE SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE. MY WIFE AND I DRIVE OUR 1 YEAR OLD CHILD IN THIS CAR AND MY WIFE IS PREGNANT. WE CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AS NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THE WEB INDICATE THAT THIS IS A EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. I WAS DOING 30MPH WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON AND I HAD A HARD TIME STEERING THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. MY MECHANIC CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *TR

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE NO LONGER HAD POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 49000.
MY 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT HAS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AND THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT. IT NOW OCCURS WITHIN MINUTES EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. THIS CAR HAS AN ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO LOSE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING, MAKING TURNS, PARKING, ETC. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND I REALLY HOPE THAT GM ISSUES A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR AND AT THIS POINT I AM NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT AT ALL. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THIS INTO CONSIDERATION. *TR
POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, ALL DISPLAY LIGHTS BEGIN GOING OFF AND ON, SPEEDOMETER NEEDLES GO CRAZY, CLICKING NOISE IN DASH, CAR SPUTTERS WHEN STOPPING AND JERKS REAL HARD WHEN BEGINNING TO RESUME DRIVING AFTER STOPPING. ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME, NOT ALWAYS JUST OFF AND ON, NEVER KNOW WHEN ITS GOING TO HAPPEN. HAD RECALL ON POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, HAD THAT REPLACED AT 70,558 MILES, STARTING HAVING SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN. HAD STEERING COLUMN, SHAFT AND LINK REPLACED AT 73,117 MILES. CAR SEEMED OK FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN AGAIN AT 73,900 MILES SAME PROBLEMS ARE HAPPENING AGAIN. CONTACTED GM, WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS DONE SO ANYTHING ELSE THAT HAPPENS NOW IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. HAVE SEEN 100'S OF OTHER COMMENTS FROM COBALT OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE AND GM. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY MORE OF A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES THAN JUST THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. SOMETHING MORE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND DONE WITH THIS ISSUE. IT IS AND OR CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WHEN OCCURRING (STEERING GOING OUT AT ANYTIME) LIKE I'VE SEEN ON MANY COMMENTS FROM OTHERS, DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? GM STATES THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A 5 STAR SAFETY RATING BUT YET THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX A PROBLEM AS SERIOUS AS THIS. I LIKE MANY OTHERS CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP FIXING THIS PROBLEM JUST TO KEEP HAVING IT RE-OCCUR. I HAD TO PAY OUT $950 A MONTH AGO AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE AM NOW HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAD TO BORROW MONEY TO HAVE THE FIRST REPAIRS DONE AND HAVE NO WAY TO HAVE IT DONE THIS TIME (CAN'T AFFORD IT) SO NOW AGAIN LIKE I'VE SEEN MANY OTHERS COMMENT I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT'S STEERING COULD AND WILL GO OUT AT ANYTIME. MY POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO FAIL 3-4 TIMES A WEEK NOW. I OWN A 2005 CHEVY COBALT AND HAD RECENTLY LOST MY STEERING IN A SNOW STORM. I HAVE CONTACTED GMAC, AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO, BUT REPAIR IT IF NECESSARY @ MY EXPENSE, SEEING AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, AND THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. 2005 CHEVY COBALT - POWER STEERING FAILS DAILY AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES. RANDOM, LOOSE ABILITY TO STEER AND CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF AND RESET IT. THIS IS MY TEENAGE CHILD'S CAR AND THIS IS A DANGER TO HIS SAFETY. HE CANNOT EVEN DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A SAFETY CONCERN, I NOW DRIVE IT TO WORK 40 MILES ONE WAY AND DEAL WITH IT SO HE CAN BE SAFE. *TR

MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS 2005 CHEVY COBALT WHEN THE POWER STEERING UNEXPECTEDLY WENT OUT. IT KEPT GOING ON AND OFF UNTIL HE GOT TO WORK. HE HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME HANDLING THE CAR AND ALMOST WENT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD COST $800.00 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND IT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY'S. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE CAR AND IT IS NOT SAFE. *TR
