TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON ARRIVAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT DID NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AND NOTICED THAT IT WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT TRIED TO OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE BUT IT STILL WOULD NOT OPEN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT IS HAVING POWER STEERING ISSUES. I THOUGHT THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD FIX THE ISSUE AS I HAD IT REPAIRED A WEEK AGO. AFTER THE REPAIR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BECAME HARD TO STEER. THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $43.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND CAME UP WITH SEVERAL CODES IN THE COMPUTER BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. NO POWER STEERING AND THE CAR STARTED SHUTTERING THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT I THEN HAD POWER STEERING BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I DO NOT BELIEVE GM IS FIXING THE RIGHT PROBLEM. *TR
CAMPAIGN 09V419000 STATES THAT CERTAIN VIN NUMBERED 2006 CHEVY COBALTS HAVE A FUEL PUMP MODULE THAT MAY CRACK AND BREAK AND LEAK GAS WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOW GM IS SAYING MY CAR DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE VIN NUMBERS. MY CAR DOES FIT BETWEEN THE BREAKPOINTS. I AM HAVING TO PAY FOR A NEW FUEL PUMP WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. MY CAR HAS BEEN LEAKING GAS AND IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS EXACT CAUSE AND NOW GM WON'T FIX IT. *TR
FIRST WE NOTICED THAT THE SHIFTER ON OUR 2006 COBALT WAS ACTING UNUSUAL, IT TOOK MORE EFFORT TO TAKE OUT OF PARK AND THE BUTTON DID NOT NEED TO BE DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE OR THE LOWER GEARS. THEN THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION. IT COULD ONLY BE REMOVED BY DEPRESSING THE BUTTON INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY A CHEVY DEALER BY REPLACING THE GEAR SHIFTER CONTROL ASSEMBLY FOR $208 AS THIS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF FAILURE WAS 69,800. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN AN OVERPOWERING GASOLINE FUEL ODOR FILLED THE INTERIOR CABIN. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FUEL LEAK AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE FUEL MODULE WAS FRACTURED IN HALF. THE MECHANIC PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE FUEL MODULE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
VEHICLE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN TWO WEEKS AFTER DEALER PERFORMED MANDATED RECALL WORK TO FIX POWER STEERING FAILURES WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. WITH MOST RECENT STEERING FAILURE, DEALER CLAIMS THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PERFORM ANY MORE WARRANTY WORK TO FIX THE POWER STEERING SINCE THEY SAY THEY ALREADY DID THE REQUIRED RECALL WORK. WHAT LEAVES US WITH A VEHICLE THAT POTENTIALLY STILL SUFFERS FROM INTERMITTENT LOSE OF POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING. *TR
BRAKES LOCKING UP ON 2006 CHEVY COBALT. VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH ANTI LOCK BRAKES. ALSO A FRIEND WITH 2005 COBALT BRAKES COMPLETELY LOCKED SEIZED. BRAKES BURNED UP. CAR TOWED, AND HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES. *TR
FAILURE ON THE FUEL PUMP,LEAKING UNDER THE CAR ALOT DANGEROUS FUMES DOES NOT START AT TIMES AND WHEN IT DOES LEAKS ALOT OF GAS AND SMELLS REALLY STRONG AND THEN STOPS SUDDENING. SO WILL NOT MOVE IT DUE TO ITS DANGER OF THE GAS LEAK. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 COBALT AND THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT INTO PARK. THE CAR WAS BASICALLY IN NEUTRAL. I HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR IN THE "ON" POSITION OVER NIGHT. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED AT VANN CHEVY IN CARROLLTON TX AND HAD TO PAY $640.00 FOR THE REPAIR. I HAD TO GET THE WHOLE SHIFTER REPLACED FROM THE SHIFT BUTTON TO THE FLOOR. CHEVY CONTACTED ME TODAY AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE PROBLEM. CHEVY STATED AT THIS POINT IT IS NOT A RECALL EVEN THOUGH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND A LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR. THE SPEED ODOMETER ALSO BECAME INOPERABLE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE PREVIOUS DAY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE APPLIED TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,887.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OR IN OPERATION, THERE WOULD BE AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DETECTED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE EMISSION VALVE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY IN ORDER TO COVER THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,200.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COLBALT LT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WITHIN A WEEK AFTER HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE SALES CENTER, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 105,000. UPDATED 07.20.11
MY 2006 COBALT SS SEDAN HAS HAD A RECURRING ISSUE. THE TRACTION CONTROL (T/C) LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL BEGIN TO SHIFT HARD, SLAMMING INTO EACH GEAR. I HAD THIS PROBLEM SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE USED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON WITH THE T/C LIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND I HAD A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND A DAMAGED CYLINDER HEAD. THE POWERTRAIN WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. NOT LONG AFTER, MY POWER STEERING STARTED TO GO OUT, EVERY TIME I DROVE. I HAD THE FAULTY COMPONENT REPLACED PER THE RECALL. NOW THE T/C, TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS BACK, THE CAR DOESN'T STORE ANY CODES AND THE T/C LIGHT GOES AWAY WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF (MOST OF THE TIME) THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME WAY IT STARTED OUT LAST TIME. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS, EXPENSIVE AND IT IS BEING IGNORED. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS, FORUMS WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED! *TR
CHEVY 2006 COBALT POWER STEERING FAILED FOUR TIMES SINCE AUGUST 13TH POWER STEERING MOTOR REPLACED. *TR
WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V419000 ON OUR 2006 CHEVY COBALT (VIN [XXX]). WE SMELLED A STRONG FUEL SMELL AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (SANDS CHEVROLET GLENDALE AZ) FOR REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. WE WERE DENIED SERVICE UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE PLASTIC SUPPLY PORT WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING FUEL AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. WE WERE CHARGED $673.48 TO REPAIR THE DANGEROUS DEFECT PLUS $134.24 FOR ANOTHER FUEL FILTER THEY SAID WE NEEDED. DUE TO THE POTENTIALLY DEADLY DEFECT WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. IF THE DEALER WAS TELLING THE TRUTH THEN IT SEEMS THE SCOPE OF THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. WE DON'T WANT TO SEE DRIVERS OF THE 2006 COBALT EXPOSED TO THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY DEFECT AND FIRE HAZARD. HIT A VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, THE FRONT END OF THE CAR IS MESS UP, THE AIR BAG DID NOT COME OUT. BUMP HEAD NOSE AND LIPS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. *TR
MY VEHICLE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR YEARS. GM HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE COST TO REPAIR IT, STATING IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY, EVEN THO THE AIRBAG HAS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE WARNING LIGHT BEING ON INDICATES THAT IF I NEED THE AIRBAG IT WILL NOT DEPLOY. THEY ISSUED A RECALL AND MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN IT. *TR
MY DAUGHTER OWNS A 2006 CHEVY COBALT, (WHICH I PROVIDED MUCH OF THE $$ FOR) IT HAS APPROX 32K MILES. IT RECENTLY DEVELOPED AN ISSUE WITH A KNOCKING SOUND FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD THAT CONTINUES FOR 10-15 SECONDS ALMOST EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED. SHE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL TRUSTED REPAIR SHOP, AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A POWER STEERING PROBLEM THAT THE MECHANIC FELT SHOULD /COULD BE A RECALL ITEM AND SUGGESTED THAT SHE TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP; CHARGED $48. DEALERSHIP CHECKED OUT CAR FREE OF CHARGE (THAT IS SUSPICIOUS) FOR 2 HOURS, AND DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT PART # 15800140. THEY REFERRED TO BULLETIN # 04-03-08-006D.THE APPROX COST TO REPAIR IT WOULD BE $1100, BUT IT WAS DEEMED SAFE TO DRIVE ALTHOUGH THE KNOCKING SOUND WOULD BE A NUISANCE. SOON AFTER I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND EASILY FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, INJURIES, AND ACCIDENTS FROM COBALT STEERING PROBLEMS FOR 2005-2009 VEHICLES, YET IT WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM. I KNOW THAT MY DAUGHTER'S CURRENT ISSUE WILL ONLY GET MUCH WORSE AND THE VALUE OF THE CAR IS VERY DIMINISHED. THE ODDS OF SELLING IT ARE SLIM. PLEASE! MAKE CHEVROLET RECALL COBALT FOR THEIR STEERING DEFECTS A.S.A.P. WE WORK HARD AND CAN'T AFFORD TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE A 06 CHEVY COBALT. SINCE OCTOBER 2007, THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN ACTING UP. AT THE BEGINNING, THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR ONLY ONCE IN A WHILE. NOW IT IS HAPPENING EVERYDAY. I'M CURRENTLY A NURSING STUDENT AND RELY ON MY CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES WHEN MY CAR WOULD START ACTING UP AND DURING DANGEROUS CONDITIONS SUCH AS THUNDERSTORMS OR JUST IN AN UNSAFE PART OF TOWN. I WAS HAPPY WHEN A POWER STEERING RECALL WAS ISSUED, BUT AFTER HAVING THE RECALLED FIXED, THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING! I'M A MICHIGAN NATIVE AND KNOW FIRST HAND THE IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY ON THE AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY. I WANTED TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL ECONOMY BY CHOOSING THIS CAR. VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ALONG WITH SEVERELY REDUCED ENGINE POWER. HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE, ABOUT EVERY 3 MONTHS. HAVE HAD DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED AND IT IS A CODE P060E, WHICH TRANSLATES INTO 'INDETERMINATE FAULT'. COULD RESULT IN MAJOR ACCIDENT IN IT OCCURRED WHILE TURNING ACROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS THERE IS A SUDDEN SLOWING. RECURS ABOUT EVERY 3-6MONTHS AND AFTER A FEW DAYS, SELF CORRECTS. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK OF MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. ALTHOUGH I WAS NOT INJURED, IF THERE HAD BEEN AN ACCIDENT OR A FIRE IN THE CAR, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IN A TIMELY MANNER. VERY DANGEROUS!! I AM UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AS WELL. MY DEALERSHIP WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR BECAUSE THEY CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT DAMAGING IT. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 31,000 MILES SINCE PURCHASING IT NEW IN JUNE OF 2006. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN LEFT TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. SHE HAD TO USE ADDITIONAL FORCE TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND AVOID A CRASH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WOULD NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 86,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE FUEL GAUGE RAPIDLY STARTED MOVING DOWN AND FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. SHE HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE WHERE A MECHANIC INSPECTED IT AND FOUND A LEAK ON THE FUEL PUMP HOSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
CHEVY COBALT 2006 CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE. THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. BUT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ON A RECALL. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET OF OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING A FUEL LEAK THAT WAS RECALLED UNDER CAMPAIGN 09V419000, FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED BECAUSE OF THE OXYGEN SENSOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL PUMP MODULAR ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). A GEAR SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN IS CHEAPLY MADE AND WEARS OUT. THERE IS SLACK BETWEEN THE TEETH ON THE GEAR'S. IN RESULT AS YOU GO OVER SMALL BUMPS AND BIG THERE IS A CLUNK NOISE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. AS WELL AS THE CAR DOES NOT TRACK STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THE SLACK IN THE GEAR TEETH THE TIRES SLIGHTLY WOBBLE AS DRIVING BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOT CONTROLLING THE TIRES FOR THE AMOUNT OF SLACK BETWEEN THE GAP IN THE GEAR TEETH. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL BASED ON THE SEVERITY OF BEING A STEERING ISSUE, AND AS A RESULT, LOSS OF STEERING COULD BE POSSIBLE IF THE GEARS COMPLETELY STRIP OUT. MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT SS HAS A TRANSMISSION/TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AT RANDOM AND WHEN IT DOES, MY CAR WITH SLAM INTO THE NEXT GEAR. UPON EXITING VEHICLE, NOTICED EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL OF GAS ON 9/1/10. GAS SMELL DID NOT DISSIPATE, AND IN FACT GOT STRONGER OVER THE PERIOD OF ONE WEEK. NOTICEABLE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CABIN. MILEAGE AT TIME OF FAILURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72500. SPOKE WITH DEALER ABOUT PROBLEM, TOLD THAT IT DID NOT FALL UNDER CURRENT RECALL CONDITIONS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. HAD MECHANIC LOOK AT IT, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED REPLACED THE LINES ATTACHED TO IT HAD CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING FUEL ON THE TOP OF THE TANK. EXTREME FIRE HAZARD. REPAIRS WERE $760. FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS REPLACED AFTER DIAGNOSTICS AND HAVING THE TANK DROPPED. PART AVAILABLE. EXACT DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM FALLS UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN 09V419000 RECALL. CAR IS NOT IN RECALL STATE, BUT ISSUE HAS BEEN INDICATED TO BE RELATED TO HIGH HEAT. HEAT IN CURRENT STATE (WV) HAS BEEN 90+ DEGREES FOR MORE THAN 2 MONTHS. DEALER DID NOT LOOK AT RECALL, ONLY AT THE VIS WHICH DID NOT INCLUDE MY CAR'S VIN, APPARENTLY. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL 2006 CHEVY COBALTS WHO HAVE SIMILAR PARTS IN THEIR CAR. THE STATE SPECIFIC RECALL HAS BEEN INDICATED IN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABUNDANT ON THE INTERNET TO BE A FALSE, AS PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED NATIONWIDE. I WAS DRIVING MY COBALT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE RPM'S RED LINED AND I HAD NO POWER. I HAD TO COAST INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I WAITED ABOUT 30 MIN, STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT SEEMED FINE. THEN I STARTED TO HAVE TROUBLE GETTING MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES I HAD TO LEAVE MY KEY IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. THE NEXT PROBLEM CAME WHEN I WOULD HIT THE BRAKES. IF SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD, THE CAR WOULD IDLE REALLY ROUGH AND SHUT OFF. THAT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 2 TO 3 YEARS. I CALLED THE LOCAL KOONS DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THESE PROBLEMS WERE COMMON AND THAT I NEEDED A NEW BCM. SO, I PURCHASED A NEW BCM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THE BCM WAS "PLUG AND PLAY". BASICALLY, IT WAS A FEW CLIPS, A FEW BOLTS AND THAT I COULD INSTALL IT MYSELF, SO I DID. IT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I CALLED BACK AND THE GUY THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE TOLD ME TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY AND WAIT 15 MINUTES, THEN HOOK IT BACK UP. NOT ONLY DID IT NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT BY UNHOOKING THE BATTERY THE ANTI-THEFT LOCKED MY RADIO. WHEN I CALLED BACK THE THIRD TIME THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME I NEEDED TO BRING THE CAR IN AND HAVE THEM RESET IT FOR 300$. BEING AS THOUGHT I JUST SPENT 300$ ON THE BCM I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY. I BOUGHT THE COBALT BECAUSE IT WAS A CHEVY AND A SMALL RELIABLE CAR. I WAS ALSO A COLLEGE STUDENT SO THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. SINCE THE RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS COME OUT, I CALLED THE KOONS DEALERSHIP AND ASKED ABOUT A REFUND ON THE BCM BECAUSE THAT OBVIOUSLY WASN'T THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF LUCK AND THEY WEREN'T GOING TO HELP ME. NOW, I HAVE A DEATH TRAP, IM OUT THE MONEY FOR THE BCM, AND I DON'T HAVE MONEY FOR A NEW CAR. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT ENGINE HAS BEEN CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL JUST CUT OFF DOWN TO THE BATTERY. IT STARTED OUT BY JUST QUITTING WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AND THEN IT GRADUATED TO CUTTING OFF WHEN DRIVING ON INTERSTATES WHILE I WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL OFF ON TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE CAR. WE THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN WATER IN THE GAS OR THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS STOPPED UP, BUT AFTER RUNNING HIGHER OCTANE FUEL AND USING THE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IT STILL WAS CUTTING OFF. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE GOING FROM MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK TO ALMOST EVERYDAY. IT WOULD NOT DO IT FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THEN IT WOULD START DOING IT AGAIN. WE FINALLY TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT IT COULD BE THE FUEL INJECTOR OR THE O2 SENSOR GOING BAD. AFTER REPLACING BOTH OF THESE COMPONENTS, THE CAR IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 120,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. MY MOTHER BOUGHT HER CAR AROUND THE SAME TIME I DID.
