DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE BRAKE DUST WAS NOTICED ON THE FRONT RIMS, THE INSIDE OF THE ROTORS HAD GROOVES ON THEM AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY TURNED THE FRONT ROTORS AND CUT THE BRAKE LINE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
2006 CHEVY COBALT, SHIFTER WON'T ENGAGE @ 500 MILES-DEALER TRADES CARS. 2006 CHEVY COBALT, CLUTCH BURNS UP @2000 MILES, DEALER REPLACES CLUTCH PLATES AT NO CHARGE, WILL CHARGE FOR ANOTHER OCCURRENCE OF SAME NATURE. DEALER STATES ABUSE IS CAUSE OF CLUTCH DAMAGE. *NM
2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR IGNITION KEY LOCK REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. ALSO, SHE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, WHICH ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *JB UPDATED 06/12/14 THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. UPDATED 07/02/14
1. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES CONTINUE TO MOVE AFTER VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF. OCCURS DAILY AND HAS DONE SO SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE 2/2006. DEALERSHIP REPLACED ENGINE COMPUTER TWICE WHILE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY BUT ONLY AFTER I PERSONALLY CONTACTED GM. 2. WHILE DRIVING CAR THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT. DEALERSHIP STATES THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE THIS CONDITION YET OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM. SAW ON NEWS BROADCAST A POSSIBLE RECALL FOR THIS. 3. IGNITION IN STEERING COLUMN WILL NOT TURN ON. IGNITION REPLACED 4-5 TIMES BY DEALERSHIP. 4. GEAR SHIFTER STICKS OR WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. REPLACED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND UNDER SERVICE BULLETIN NUMEROUS TIMES. 5. WHILE TRYING TO START CAR STARTER OR SOMETHING DRAGS. HAS DONE THIS SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE CONDITION. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UNLESS THE AUTOMATIC ON SENSOR DETERMINES IT NECESSARY THE DASH LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. THERE IS NO SWITCH ALLOWING THE CONTACT TO TURN ON THE DASH LIGHTS. ON PAGE 3-14 OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL IT STATES THE DASH LIGHTS ARE SUPPOSE TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON. ACCORDING TO TITLE 49 OF THE U. S. CODE PART 571.101, PARAGRAPHS S5.3.3 AND S5.3.1 UPDATED 03/15/05
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DEACTIVATE. TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT LEAST 4 TIMES EACH TIME HARDER THAN THE TIME BEFORE IN COMBINATION WITH TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF. WHEN IT DEACTIVATED THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THAT WAS HEARD. WITHIN THE NEXT 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED WITHOUT BEING TURNED ON, THIS OCCURRED ON 2 OCCASIONS. IT WAS DEACTIVATED IN THE SAME MANOR AS STATED BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE HOWEVER THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED THEREFORE NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE FREEWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT RESPONDING FOR A MOMENT SO I WAS SO SCARED A THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT SO I STOP FOR A WHILE AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN BUT WHEN I GOT HOME I TRIED TO PARKED MY CAR AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO MY DAD CHECK THE CAR TO PUT SOME FLUID ON THE POWER STEERING BUT WE FOUND THAT THE SYSTEM IS ELECTRIC, TODAY COULD BE REALLY DANGEROUS NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT OTHERS THAT WERE DRIVING CLOSE TO ME IN THE FREEWAY. *TR
WHEN TURNING SHARP RIGHT IN MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT LS 4DR, THERE IS A LOUD, METAL RUBBING SOUND COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL, AS IF STEERING IS HITTING SOMETHING UNDERNEATH. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TURN IS SHARP, SUCH AS A U-TURN OR COMING OUT FROM AN ALLEY, DRIVEWAY, ETC. *TR
POWER STEERING KEEPS FAILING ON MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT. THIS HAS JUST STARTED AND I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. *JB
BRAKES FAILED. HIT ANOTHER CAR AT STOP LIGHT. CAR SLOWED BUT WOULD NOT STOP. FELT ABS KICK IN BUT BRAKES ONLY SLOWED CAR DOWN. LESS THAN 5 MPH. NO AIB BAG INFLATION. CAR WAS A LOANER FROM DEALER, WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING WORKED ON. HAD CAR TOWED BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE AND I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT BRAKES DON'T WORK WHEN YOU USE THEM.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. PRIOR TO THE LIGHT ILLUMINATING, THE VEHICLE APPEARED SLUGGISH WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE REAR TIRES WOULD OCCASIONALLY SPIN, REGARDLESS OF THE ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE DEALER INSTALLED AN 02 SENSOR, BUT THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO ILLUMINATE. THE NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 3,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE AT 40 MPH THE VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM BEHIND AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE FRONT END WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. *AK
I AM REQUESTING THAT DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT (PART# 10394225) SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN I AM ACCELERATING, DECELERATING, COASTING (NEUTRAL), AND BRAKING. WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH IT MAKES A "CLUNKING" NOISE GIVING ME THE NOTION THAT THERE IS INDEED SOMETHING IN THE STEERING FUNCTION THAT IS BROKEN. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS OCCASIONS UPON ACCELERATING WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL HAS OVERPOWERED MY GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING MY CAR TO STEER VERY HARD TO THE LEFT ALMOST CAUSING COLLISION WITH OTHER CARS. THE LOSS OF CONTROL ON STEERING IS EVEN WORSE UPON LOW SPEED BRAKING; THE WHEELS HAVE IN THE PAST TURNED AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. AGAIN, THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED A NUMBER OF COLLISIONS AT STOP LIGHTS WHERE THERE ARE 2 OR MORE LANES, OR THERE IS A TURNING LANE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE IS DONE. COBALTS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO REPLACE THIS PART 2-3 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 5 YEARS IN OPERATION. SO FAR NO ACTION TO REPLACE THE PART HAS BEEN DONE ON MY PART. CURRENTLY THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF TESTIMONIES AND EVIDENCE THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM HERE AND I WISH YOU TO FORMALLY INVESTIGATE. THERE IS NO INCIDENT REPORT YET, DISREGARD INCIDENT DATE. *TR
11/24/05 CLUTCH BURNING ODOR, WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL EXHAUST COATING BURNING OFF 12/27/05 CLUTCH SLIPPING WHILE ON HIGHWAY, PROCEEDED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT TOOK ALMOST 3 WEEKS AND COST ME 1600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE A FAILING CLUTCH. LATER CONFIRMED FOR A PRIVATE MECHANIC THAT THE CLUTCH WAS TOO WEAK FOR THE CARS HP RATING. I AM NOT THE ONLY COBALT SS/SC TO HAVE THIS FAILURE. *NM
2-INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT FREEWAY SPEEDS: THE FIRST TIME THE CRUISE WAS ACTIVATED AND ON HITTING RESUME THE CAR TOOK OFF ON IT'S OWN. THE COAST FUNCTION DID NOT SLOW THE CAR AND TURNING OFF THE CRUISE DID NOT SLOW THE CAR. I WAS IN FAIRLY LIGHT TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE OUT OF TROUBLE UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR RETURNED TO NORMAL[THE BRAKES ONLY PARTIALLY SLOWED THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE HIGH SPEED INVOLVED]. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I WAS ENTERING A FREEWAY AND AT ABOUT 40-45 MPH THE ACCELERATOR WENT TO THE FLOOR ON ITS OWN AGAIN AND I HAD ONLY PARTIAL CONTROL OF THE CAR'S SPEED. THE CRUISE WAS OFF THIS TIME AND AGAIN AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND MILES THE ENGINE REVVED DOWN TO NORMAL ON ITS OWN. AGAIN TRAFFIC WAS FAIRLY LIGHT SO I WAS ABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE THROUGH WITHOUT A CRASH BUT IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC THIS WOULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 18-MILES BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT WHICH IS RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT AND THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS SHOWED THESE INCIDENTS NEVER HAPPENED BUT BELIEVE ME THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM WHEN THESE COMPUTERS OR ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS MALFUNCTION. GENERAL MOTORS HAS OPINED THAT THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE WHICH IS A COVER UP SINCE EVERYTHING IS CONTROLLED ELECTRONICALLY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SINCE IT HAPPENS AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND THE PEDAL GOES TO THE MAX. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED 3 TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRST 2 TIMES, AFTER WAITING FOR AN HOUR THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
CONSUMER 2006 COBALT INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN SWITCHED ON. *TS WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS WERE TURNED ON MANUALLY THAT IS WHEN THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY TIME THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING ILLUMINATED WAS WHEN THE AUTOMATIC LIGHT SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED AT NIGHT. *JB
I AM WRITING THIS LETTER BECAUSE OF CONCERNS I HAVE WITH MY 2006 COBALT I PURCHASED 31 AUGUST 2005. (VIN#1G1AK55F767633 614) MY FIRST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. ON THE 25 OF OCTOBER WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO GO OUT OF GEAR AND BACK IN CAUSING A JERKING MOTION AND WHEN I PULLED OVER THE MOTOR STOPPED. I HAD 675 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. YESTERDAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY DROVE IT FOR A FEW MILES WITH NO PROBLEM. NO OTHER CHECK WAS MADE BY THE DEALER ON THE CAR. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING INDICATOR WAS FLASHING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING. THE FAILURE MADE STEERING DIFFICULT. THE LACK OF POWER STEERING ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS CRASHES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,440 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WITHIN A SECOND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND THEN HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER A REPORT WAS TAKEN; HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,000.
STEERING WHEEL GET STUCK WAS REPAIRED IN THE SAME YEAR PURCHASED IN 08 NOW THE SAME PROBLEM SERVICE SAID IT WILL COST 1,000 DOLLARS I CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPAIR IT NOW WHAT DO I DO? THE SAME PROBLEM 2 TIMES IS THERE A DEFECT IN THE PART. *TR
