I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT AND THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY FAILS AT NO PARTICULAR TIME LEAVING THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING AT ANY MOMENT. THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER TODAY AND FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND A WEBSITE WITHIN 5 MINUTES WHICH HAS 387 EXACT COMPLAINTS AND THEY DESCRIBE EVERYTHING FROM NO ACCIDENT TO BEING TOWED AND UNFORTUNATELY SOME COLLISIONS. I AM PAYING TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AS THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECTIVE MOTOR. IT IS A NEW TYPE OF ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST AND NOT THE TRADITIONAL HYDRAULIC ASSIST TYPE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT. THE POWER STEERING FLASHES ON MY SCREEN AND THEN MY STEERING WHEEL BECOMES ALL STIFF. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO PARK, REVERSE AND TURN MY CAR. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO THE PROBLEM STARTED. THEN FOR ABOUT A MONTH IT COMPLETELY WENT AWAY. FOR THE PAST MONTH THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MUCH MORE SEVERE AND IT THE POWER STEERING FLASHES ON RIGHT AFTER I TURN ON MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEAL THE FIRST TIME IT BECAME AN ISSUE AND THEY SAID IT WAS $895 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN, I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THIS AND THIS CAR IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION. I'VE BEEN DOING MY RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN MANY COBALT DRIVERS. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, ITS VERY DANGEROUS! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED GASOLINE LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. HE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A LIGHT ILLUMINATING. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE LIGHT WAS DUE TO THE LINES THAT FAILED, WHICH WERE CONNECTED TO THE FUEL PUMP. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO A NEWER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,800. CHEVY COBALT FRONT END RATTLING SUSPENSION NOISE. *TR
KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF A 2007 CHEVY COBALT. MY DAUGHTER WENT TO THE MALL AND REALIZED THAT SHE COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. SHE HAD TO DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK HOME AND PARK IN THE GARAGE(THANK GOD WE HAD ONE). IT WAS THE WEEKEND SO THERE WAS NO SERVICE THAT COULD BE DONE FOR THE CAR. SINCE IT WAS IN THE ACC POSITION, HER BATTERY DIED OVER THE WEEKEND. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PROVIDED JUMP HOWEVER, THE CAR HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND AT THE RATE OF $99.00 PER HOUR THEY WILL DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM (WHICH IS ALREADY REPORTED AS A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN. WHERE DOES THE MADNESS STOP?... THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM YET, THE DEALER CAN STILL CHARGE FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS CRAZY. *TR
MY POWER STEERING IS OUT ON MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHES AND IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON IT GOES AWAY, ONLY TO COME BACK ON A FEW MILES DOWNT HE ROAD. IT NORMALLY OCCURS MOST WHEN IT'S HOT OUTSIDE. THE CAR IS BARELY ABLE TO TURN AT ALL. IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE TWO LITTLE CHILDREN. I WOULD HATE FOR ANYTHING TO HAPPEN. I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT APPROX 37K MI...AT APPROX 36K MY POWER STEERING NOTIFICATION CAME ON WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND BECOMES HARD TO STEER. I HAVE TO TURN VEH OFF AND RESUME DRIVING IN HOPES THAT IT WON'T COME BACK ON. THIS HAS GOTTEN GRADUALLY WORSE AND MORE FREQUENT IN THE HEAT OF SUMMER. GM RECALL YOUR DEFECTIVE PARTS! *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2007 COBALT WITH POWER STEERING PROBLEMS FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. WHILE DRIVING YOU COULD HEAR THE STEERING COLUMN VIBRATING REALLY LOUD, EVENTUALLY THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR WOULD LOOSE POWER STEERING AND IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. IF I COULD STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON IT WOULD DISAPPEAR. BUT EVENTUALLY IT CAME ON SO OFTEN THAT I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR
PROBLEM: I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT THAT IS LEAKING FUEL FROM UNDER THE CAR AT THE GAS TANK. I CALLED THE PARTS DEPARTMENT WERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR TO SEE WERE THE FUEL FILTER IS LOCATED. HE TOLD ME THAT JUST YESTERDAY A CUSTOMER CAME IN WHO OWNED THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL WHO ALSO HAD A LEAK AT THE SAME LOCATION AT THE FUEL TANK. THE PARTS PERSON TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS IN THE TANK. THE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE CAR IS EXTREMELY BAD. IT ALMOST SMELLS LIKE IT IS LEAKING INTO THE CAR. QUESTION: IS THIS A PROBLEM THAT OTHER 2007 CHEVY CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING? WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION? *TR
ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE PARKING BRAKE ON MY CHEVY COBALT, THE BRAKE HANDLE WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. THE VEHICLE HAS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION SO OTHER THAN PLACING THE CAR IN GEAR, THERE IS NO OTHER MEANS TO KEEP THE CAR FROM ROLLING. BECAUSE THE BRAKE WILL NOT STAY ENGAGED AT ALL THE CAR MUST BE SHUT OFF AND PLACED IN GEAR TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING EVEN WHILE ENGAGING IN SUCH SHORT TERM FUNCTIONS AS OPENING THE GARAGE DOOR. THE BRAKES THEMSELVES WORK, IT IS ONLY THE HAND BRAKE THAT WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. *TR

THE DEALER INVESTIGATED AND STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST WAS ESTIMATED AT $853 TO BE PAID BY THE CONTACT. 2007 CHEVY COBALT STEERING IS DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS! I PURCHASED A 2007 COBALT IN MAY OF 2009 AND HAVE HAD IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES SINCE. POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THAT THEIR POWER STEERING GOES OUT RANDOMLY CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BENT ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE WHEEL. LATER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE OVER ANOTHER POTHOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN, TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE BENT WHEEL WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON A LATER DATE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE FRONT VERTICAL BUSHING ON BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED AS WELL AS BOTH END LINKS FOR THE FRONT SWAY BAR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT AND COLUMN ASSEMBLY WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE STEERING FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,862 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
2007 CHEVY COBALT, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME. WAS GOING TO GET REPAIRS, BUT I'M FINDING OUT BY RESEARCH I CAN'T AFFORD THIS. IT'S A PAIN WHEN TRYING TO PARK. WORKS FINE AT START UP, BUT WHILE DRIVING IT WILL GO OUT. TENDS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN IT'S WARMER OUTSIDE AND I HAVE TO USE THE A/C. LESS OFTEN WHEN IT'S COLD AND I USE THE HEATER. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT I'VE BEEN SMELLING FUEL SINCE THIS STARTED, MAY BE UNRELATED. I HAVE IT BEING LOOKED AT LATER. BUT IF IT COSTS MORE THAN 500 TO REPAIR I WON'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING BUT DRIVE AN UNSAFE CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2007 CHEVY COBALT ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 11,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. EARLY LAST SUMMER IT WAS NEARING THE 40,000 MARK AND MY POWER STEERING STARTED GOING OUT. I ASSUMED THAT IT WAS OUT OF FLUID, SO I TOOK THE CAR AND HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND ALL THE FLUIDS CHECKED. AS I WAS LEAVING THE MECHANIC, IT WENT OUT AGAIN. I WENT BACK INTO THE OFFICE, TOLD THEM MY ISSUE AND THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PUT POWER STEERING FLUID, THAT IT WAS A CLOSED TRANSMISSION. (I LATER LEARNED THAT IT WAS ELECTRIC.) THE POWER STEERING CONTINUED TO COME AND GO FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS. I STOPPED DRIVING FOR ABOUT 8 WEEKS AND WHEN I RESUMED DRIVING, IT WAS FINE. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE PROBLEM HAD FIXED ITSELF. IT WENT OUT AGAIN ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO; IT HAD AROUND 41500 MILE ON IT. I LIVE IN THE BACK OF A NEIGHBORHOOD, WHERE I HAVE TO MAKE LOTS OF TURNS AND THAT IS GENERALLY WHERE IT GOES OUT. I DO NOT DO A LOT OF INTERSTATE OR HIGHWAY DRIVING, MOSTLY JUST INNER-CITY. I RARELY TRAVEL OVER 50 MPH. BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO GO OUT, IT MAKES IT HARD FOR ME TO MAKE TURNS AND DRIVE. I HAVE NOT YET BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE ISSUE, BUT I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS. I TRY TO REMAIN EXTRA AWARE OF MY SURROUNDINGS TO PREVENT ANY INCIDENTS. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE. POWER STEERING GOES OUT ABRUPTLY WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. AFTER TURNING CAR OFF AND BACK ON, POWER STEERING IS RESTORED BUT WILL ABRUPTLY GO OUT AGAIN AT RANDOM, SOMETIMES IT GIVES OUT 4 OR 5 TIMES WITHIN A SINGLE DRIVING TRIP RANGING FROM 4 TO 10 MILES. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE, AND POWER ASSIST MOTOR HOPING THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, PROCEEDING TO A TRAFFIC STOP SIGNAL. A CHIME SENSOR SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER EXERTED HIGHER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE WAS HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY BUT WAS NOW HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE FRONT STEERING, DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NOTHING FOUND. NOW IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE STEERING KNUCKLES. RADIO WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES!!! DOOR LOCKS DO NOT STAY LOCKED/UNLOCKED. DEALER STATES THEY NEVER FOUND ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. VEHICLE NOW HAS 110,000 MILES ON IT *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING HAS BECOME LOOSE SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND A POWER STEERING FAILURE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO HER DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,801 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,304.
WHEN STARTING UP, ONCE I GET GOING, POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT OCCURS CONSTANTLY, SOMETIMES COMING BACK ON WHEN RESTARTING, BUT GOING OUT SOON THEREAFTER. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY COBALT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT SINCE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM, AND THAT THE UNITS THEY REPLACE ALSO FAIL IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN TO NOT ONLY ME BUT SOMEONE ELSE. THIS PROBLEM COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF NOT FIXED. *TR
CLUTCH FAILURE, THERES A MECHANISM THAT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SPIN THE WHEELS INTO 3RD GEAR ON THE 2007 CHEVY COBALT SS. THIS MECHANISM HAS CAUSED MY GIRLFRIENDS CLUTCH TO BE BURNED UP OVER A ONE MONTH PERIOD. THE VECHICLES CLUTCH NO LONGER FULLY DISENGAGES AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO MOVE. THE PART(S) HAVE NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED YET BECAUSE IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AS OF 3 P.M. TODAY. THE VEHICLE THEN JERKED TO THE LEFT AND THE STEERING COLUMN BECAME VERY STIFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO HIS DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,000. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL, NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

THE VEHICLE WILL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL; HOWEVER, OCCASIONALLY, IT WOULD RESET ITSELF. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEFORE OR AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER AGREED TO PAY HALF OF THE $1800 REPAIR COST AND THE CONTACT REQUESTED THE REPAIR BE NO CHARGE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 49,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A 2 LANE ROAD ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, STEERING LOCKED TO THE RIGHT WHILE TRYING TO TURN TO THE LEFT, WENT OFF ROAD AND WHEN GOT MY CAR BACK ON ROAD BARELY MOVING BY THIS TIME, THEN CAR WENT LEFT, ALMOST HIT CAR IN OTHER LANE, STOPPED AND CHECKED TIRES, AND WENT ON, ABOUT ANOTHER MILE OR TWO DID IT AGAIN, TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND NOTHING. I LOVE MY CAR BUT I AM FINDING THERE IS TOO MANY STEERING COMPLAINTS WITH THIS CAR. GM IS NO HELP, THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME EACH WEEK TO CHECK ON ME. IN THE MEAN TIME I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, SO I HAVE A PRETTY LAWN ORNAMENT. PLEASE SAFETYCAR.GOV HELP US. I FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT TODAY ON THE PHONE, WAITING ON MY PAPER WORK TO SIGN AND RETURN, PLEASE EVERY ONE DO THE SAME, GET THE NUMBER FROM THIS SITE AND FILE, AND ALSO CALL GM CORPORATE, NOT JUST YOUR LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATED THAT FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE WIRING IN THE IGNITION AND THE AIR BAG COIL WHICH WERE REPAIRED. THREE MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

THE POWER STEERING FUNCTION WOULD RANDOMLY GO OUT ON THE 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THIS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND AT VARIOUS TIMES OF DRIVING. THIS STARTED WITH AN APPROXIMATE MILEAGE OF 43K AND BEGAN OCCURRING EARLY IN 2009. THE POWER STEERING MECHANISM WAS REPLACED IN EARLY MARCH 2009. I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD PART. THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE WAS A 16 YEAR OLD AND I FELT I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET THIS REPAIR. I DID SOME RESEARCH OF MY OWN AND FOUND A TECHNICAL BULLETIN (BULLETIN 07-02-32-007) ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE BY CHEVROLET. I ALSO WROTE A LETTER TO GENERAL MOTORS EXPRESSING MY CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS OUT THERE AND THE FACT THAT HIS POWER STEERING FAILURE HAPPENED SO EARLY IN THE VEHICLES LIFE. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AND POWER STEERING CAME UP ON THE LITTLE SCREEN, THEN WITH NO WARNING MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND WAS VERY UNSAFE. THIS REGARDS A CHEVY COBALT SS. THIS VEHICLE IS MOSTLY DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS AND OCCASIONAL LONG FREEWAY TRIPS, NO TOWING OR OVERLOADING. NOTICED AT SOMEWHERE AROUND 10,000-15,000 MILES (MAYBE SOONER.) THAT REAR BRAKES WERE VERY NOISY WHEN BACKING. LOUD ENOUGH THAT THE NEIGHBORS COULD HEAR THEM IN THE MORNING WHEN I BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE. EASILY BE HEARD DOWN THE STREET. THE BRAKES HAD ALWAYS BEEN NOISIER THAN I WOULD EXPECT FOR A NEW VEHICLE. FINALLY GOT TIRED OF NOISE AT 17,000 MILES AND TOOK CAR TO DEALER. (03/03/08.) THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKES, INSPECTION REPORT FROM JACK MAXTON CHEVY STATES THAT FRONT AND REAR LININGS HAVE THE APPROPRIATE THICKNESS IN MM. THEY APPLIED "ANTI-SQUEAK" TO THE BRAKES. AS TIME PASSED THE BRAKES RETURNED TO THEIR NOISY STATE. TIME FOR A 30,000 MILE CHECKUP SO WE TOOK THE CAR IN AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE BRAKES AGAIN. THEY ADVISED US THAT WE NEEDED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST OVER $400, WE DIDN'T WANT TO PAY THAT MUCH AT THE TIME SO THEY TURNED THE ROTORS, INSTALLED NEW BRAKE PADS, COSTING OVER $200. THE NEW BRAKE PADS SQUEAK AND SQUEAL, TOOK THE CAR BACK IN, THEY LOOKED AT IT AGAIN, SERVICE REP ADVISED THAT THE NEW PADS WOULD SOUND THAT WAY WHILE THEY BROKE IN. I NEVER HAD NEW BRAKE PADS MAKE NOISES AFTER HAVING THEM INSTALLED ON OTHER VEHICLES IN THE PAST. THEY SENT US A SURVEY TO COMPLETE. (THEY'RE ALWAYS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE.) WE REPORTED ALL OF THIS ON THE SURVEY AND ALL WE EVER RECEIVED IN RESPONSE WAS A PHONE CALL ADVISING US THAT WE WERE GOING TO RECEIVE A SURVEY. (WE RECEIVED A CALL WITH THE SAME ADVICE PRIOR TO THE SURVEY TOO.) TO ADD INJURY TO INSULT, WE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED, 7-YEAR BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY WHEN WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION. YESTERDAY I FILLED UP THE CAR WITH GAS AND I SMELLED THE GASOLINE. I CHECKED OUT MY CAR AND I FOUND OUT THAT MY GAS TANK WAS LEAKING FROM THE CONNECTOR THAT CONNECTS THE GAS TANK TO THE RUBBER HOSE THAT LEADS TO THE METAL PIPE THAT YOU INSERT GAS FROM. THIS HAPPENED TWO TIMES AFTER FILLING UP COMPLETELY. IT APPEARS THAT THE WELD PROCESS THAT SEALS THE CONNECTOR TO THE GAS TANK WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND STARTED TO CRACK. TODAY I HAD TO REPLACE MY GAS TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I DON'T BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. PERSONALLY I THINK ITS A PROBLEM CHEVROLET HAS HAD FOR AWHILE. I ALSO HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT THE NEW VERSION OF THE TRIAL BLAZERS HAD A RECALL ON THEIR GASOLINE TANKS FOR LEAKING PROBLEMS TOO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,516.
MY STEPBROTHER HAD TWO CHEVY COBALTS. THE FIRST ONE HE WRECKED ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHERE HE SKIDDED ON GRAVEL, HIS CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. HE REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER COBALT. IN JANUARY 2009 HE HAD ANOTHER WRECK, SINGLE CAR. HIS CAR HIT A POLE AND IMMEDIATELY BROKE OUT IN FLAMES. UNFORTUNATELY FOR MY FAMILY HE WAS NOT ABLE TO GET OUT, HE COULDN'T GET HIS SEAT BELT UNDONE AND THE FLAMES WERE MELTING THE INTERIOR CAUSING CAUSTIC FLAMES. THE POLICEMAN BROKE OUT THE BACK WINDOW TO GET HIM OUT AND THE POLICEMAN WAS HOSPITALIZED FROM SMOKE INHALATION MY BROTHER DIDN'T MAKE IT, HE DIED. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT. AT FIRST IT WAS INTERMITTENT BUT KNOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME, ANYWHERE FROM 2 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUGUST OF 2007, I PURCHASED A $3600 EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT SAID IT WOULD COVER POWER STEERING ISSUES BUT WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME MY WARRANT WOULDN'T COVER THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO THE POWER STEERING MODEL REPLACED.
