TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER HAD CAR TAKEN IN REPAIR SHOP TO FIX POWER STEERING PROBLEM IGNITION SWITCH AND THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR THREE MONTHS. *TA EACH TIME THE CONSUMER CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS INFORMED THEY WERE WAITING ON THE PARTS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE CONSUMER, THE TURN SIGNALS AND AIR CONDITION WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY.*JB
CAR SUDDENLY SHOWED SYMPTOMS OF COOLANT LOSS A DYE AND PRESSURE TEST WAS COMPLETED AND FOUND NO EXTERNAL LEAKS. I DROVE THE CAR TO WORK THE NEXT DAY 15 MINUTE COMMUTE AND UPON ARRIVING LOW COOLANT INDICATOR POPPED UP I CHECKED THE DIP STICK TO CONFIRM MY FEAR THAT THE COOLANT WAS ENTERING MY OIL SYSTEM 1-WAY. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 WEEKS OF TEARDOWN VERIFIED THE ENGINE HAD NOT SIGNS OF ABUSE AND THE HEAD AND HEADGASKET WAS NOT WARPED OR LEAKING/BLOWN. THE CAR WAS 2 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND GM DECLINED WARRANTY. LUCKILY I HAVE A 3RD PARTY WARRANTY AND THEY AGREED TO COMPLETE THE WORK DUE TO KNOWN ISSUES WITH SAID ENGINE/ SYMPTOMS . GM NOTIFIED ME THEY DID NOT HAVE A ENGINE AVAILABLE AND IT WOULD BE UNTIL OCTOBER BEFORE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND DENIED TO OFFER RENTAL WHILE I WAITED AFTER A MONTH OF FIGHTING WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY AGREED TO LEND A RENTAL CAR. TO THIS DAY MY CAR SITS IN A LOT ROTTING AWAY. I WAS DRIVING AND HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE LIGHTS KEPT ON GOING FROM DIM TO BRIGHT AND THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTS KEPT ON SWITCHING UP AND DOWN REAL FAST AND THE CAR JUST LOST ITS POWERSTEERING THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM THE CAR AND WHEN I PUT GAS IN IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO ACTUALLY CRANK BACK UP. IM AFRAID WHILE DRIVING FAST THE ELECTRIC PROBLEMS WILL CAUSE SERIOUS HARM. THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND ALL THE PROBLEMS I STATED AND I NEED THEM FIXED. *JS

THE TIMING OF THE OTHER RECALL WAS PURELY COINCIDENTAL. WHEN I CAME TO PICK UP MY CAR I WAS TOLD THEY'VE "HEARD OF ISSUES BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN OFFICIAL SO THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO." SO, HERE I AM TRYING TO GET THIS PROCESS GOING. THERE'S NO WAY I'M THE ONLY ONE AFFECTED AT THIS POINT. *TR
I CALLED THE DEALER WE PURCHASED OUR 2009 COBALT FROM BACK IN 5/5/14 TRYING TO FIX THE RECALL PROBLEMS. TWICE A MONTH I CALLED BACK UP UNTIL TODAY AND THE ANSWER THEY GAVE ME WAS THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON PARTS. THEY TRANSFERRED ME TO THE VOICE MAIL OF A PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO WAS HANDLING ALL THE RECALLS. I CALLED BACK IN THE AFTER NOON THE SAME DAY AND GOT THE SAME VOICE MAIL. I THEN DECIDED TO CALL 800/204-0261 NUMBER GIVEN TO ME ON CORRESPONDENCE FROM GM IF I HAD BEEN WAITING MORE THAN 30 DAYS FOR A RESPONSE. THE GIRL AT THIS NUMBER CALLED THE SAME DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF SHE COULD GET AN ANSWER. IT WAS THE SAME ANSWER. THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON PARTS. THE CEO OF GM [XXX] BARRA SENT A LETTER STATING THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS ORDERS WERE GOING TO BE COMPLETED BY OCT. 2014. IT IS THE SECOND WEEK OF OCT. AND WE ARE STILL UNABLE TO SCHEDULE A REPAIR APPT. TO FIX THE TWO RECALLS FOR OUR COBALT. IN ADDITION, NO ONE (DEALERSHIP OR GM EMPLOYEES) CAN TELL US WHEN THE PARTS WILL EVEN BE IN. JUST BECAUSE GM HAS RECOGNIZED, AND ADMITTED PUBLICLY, THAT THESE FAULTY PARTS CAN, AND HAVE CAUSED DEATH, DOES NOT JUSTIFY THE DELAY IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIECNED THE SAME FAILURE AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE INSPECTED, DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

I FEEL THAT FOR A RECALL THAT HAS CAUSED SEVERAL DEATHS, GM SHOULD BE GETTING THE REPLACEMENT PARTS IN QUICKER. IT TOOK THEM OVER A MONTH TO EVEN NOTIFY ME OF THE RECALL, AND WHEN I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT THEY SAID IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 1-2 MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD GET THE PART IN. IT HAS NOW BEEN NEARLY A MONTH AND IT'S NOT THERE YET. I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING A CAR THAT I KNOW COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE MY DEATH. IT TOOK THEM ALL THESE YEARS TO EVEN ADMIT TO THE PROBLEM, LET ALONE ALL THIS ADDITIONAL TIME TO GET THE PARTS IN AND THE RECALLS COMPLETED. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, IT'S A MINOR PART AND DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG TO FIX THEM. I'M NOT VERY HAPPY RIGHT NOW. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE NEXT WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11TH, AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE THIS RECALL TAKEN CARE OF AT THE SAME TIME TO EASE MY CONCERNS. I HAVE TO WONDER HOW MANY MORE WILL BE KILLED BEFORE THESE RECALLS ARE ACTUALLY COMPLETED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE UPON STARTING THE ENGINE AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. MY WIFE TRIED TO START THE CAR ON 4/30/14. PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TRY TO TURN THE KEY TO START THE CAR THE KEY WOULDN'T TURN. IT WAS LOCKED UP. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T RUN. EVENTUALLY IF SHE COMES BACK AFTER APPROX. ONE HOUR AND TRY AGAIN THE KEY WILL TURN IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WILL START. THIS HAPPENS COUPLE OF TIME A YEAR SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT; THEY TOLD US THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM WITH THIS CHEVY MODEL. *JS

I HAVE ALSO RECEIVED RECALL NOTICES FROM GM. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS TAKING SO LONG TO GET THESE PARTS? ARE THEY WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN? *TR

DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY WHEN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON AND "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MESSAGE APPEARS ON STATUS BAR OF DASHBOARD. REPAIRED AT DEALERSHIP BY REPLACING THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. OCCURRED TWICE MORE OVER NEXT 3 DAYS, REPAIRED AT DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP SAYING FIRST THROTTLE CONTROL BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. OCCURRED AGAIN 2 DAYS LATER, DEALERSHIP REPLACED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. OCCURRED AGAIN 1 DAY LATER. NEED TO TAKE IN FOR MORE SERVICE. BASIC INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM ON CHEVROLET COBALTS. *JS

MY CAR IS NOT WORKING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY, SO I HAD IT CHANGED. I HAVE POWER BUT IT STILL WILL NOT START. I DOESN'T MAKE ANY SOUNDS WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO START IT. I SHUT MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT OFF AFTER I RETURNED HOME. UPON RE-ENTRY, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. THE CAR WAS CLEARLY IN PARK, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS UNLOCKED. LOCKSMITH IS COMING TO REPLACE THE IGNITION KEY, IN THE HOPES IT WILL FIX. I JUST WANTED TO REPORT THIS SINCE THE 2005-2007 MODELS OF MY CAR ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME REASONS (PER GM'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 13454). IT DID NOT DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING, EXCEPT FOR ONCE A WEEK OR SO AGO WHEN I HIT A SPEEDBUMP AND HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH DID WORK AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. *TR

AS IT WAS THE TOOL BOX WENT INTO THE WALL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS KEPT ON GO AS FULL SPEED, THE TIRES WERE SPINNING AND THERE WERE SKID MARKS ON THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE GARAGE WAS FULL OF SMOKE FROM THE TIRES THAT IS HOW FAST THE CAR WAS GOING. I HAD TROUBLE SHUTTING OFF THE CAR.
