TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE LEFT DIRECTION UNCONTROLLABLY, AND TURNED PARTIALLY ONTO ITS DRIVER SIDE AND THEN LANDED BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL WITH THE POWER STEERING RESETTING ON ITS OWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETECT A PROBLEM. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER A PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND PUT MY COBALT IN PARK AND COULD NOT TURN THE CAR OFF. I WENT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. I ASKED HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN ON A NEW CAR. AND THE DEALER SAID THE SWITCH WAS ELECTRONIC. THE SWITCH WAS BAD. I HAD TO PAY TO GET THE SWITCH FIXED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I RECENTLY CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. GENERAL MOTORS SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP RETRIEVE MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS NOT ON 2009 COBALTS. I BELIEVE CHEVROLET WAS STILL USING THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCHES ON LATER MODELS. I WILL NOT GET MY MONEY BACK, BUT MAYBE PEOPLE WITH LATER MODEL COBALTS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH FIXED AS A RECALL. I HAVE SINCE TRADED IN MY COBALT BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
2009 CHEVY COBALT. OVER PAST 6 MONTHS, ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS: IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I HAD TO SELECT IGN SWITCH ON/OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ENGINE WOULD SWITCH OFF AND I COULD REMOVE KEY. SEPT 21 PARKED AT HOTEL TO CHECK IN. RETURNED TO CAR- STARTED NORMALLY. I PARKED CAR AT ROOM IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN OFF. KEY JAMMED IN IGNITION. I HAD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY TO SHUT OFF CAR. UPON RETURN HOME CAR TAKEN TO DEALER-IGNITION SWITCH,COLLAR AND KEY REMOVED/REPLACED. DEALER SERVICE MGR STATED HAD SEVERAL OF THESE AND MECHANIC FAMILIAR WITH REPLACEMENT. I HAD A 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT IGN SWITCH STARTED TO DO SAME THING ,BUT CAR WAS TOTAL LOSS ACCIDENT BEFORE I COULD TAKE TO DEALER. I THINK THIS IS A FIRE/SAFETY DEFECT. *TR
REAR BRAKES ON A 2009 COBALT SS TURBO SCORE AND GRIND WITHIN 10,000 MILES. YOU HAVE TO PUT AFTER MARKET BRAKES ON THE CAR. *TR
NORMAL DRIVING LEAD UP TO THE EXTREMELY PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCES WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND, THOUGH AT ONLY 25,000 MILES, THEY SAID I NEEDED TO *REPLACE*, NOT RESURFACE THE ROTORS. 25K MILES! TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, I HAD TO FIND AND PURCHASE HIGHER-QUALITY ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AND HAD TO PAY TO GET THEM INSTALLED. I BELIEVE THIS SURPRISING AND EXTRAORDINARILY EARLY FAILURE--EVEN THOUGH IT MAY FALL UNDER "MAINTENANCE"-- SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
REAR BRAKES MAKE SCRATCHING SOUNDS AND THE INSIDE OF BOTH REAR ROTORS HAVE BEEN SCORED DEEPLY THIS WAS NOTICED AT 5000 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HAS GOT MUCH WORSE AT 17,000 MILES. ALSO TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THE WOULD NOT REPLACE ANYTHING. *TR
HEADLIGHTS SIDE MARKER COVER CAME OFF ON BOTH HEADLAMPS NOT AT THE SAME TIME SHORT TIME AFTER THE FIRST ONE THEN THE RIGHT SIDE CAME OFF CAUSES GLARE. POWER LOCKS DO NOT FUNCTION ANY MORE WITH BUTTONS ONLY FUNCTION WITH GEAR SHIFTER SOMETIMES LOCKS WILL GO LOCK TO UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES MULTIPLE TIMES WITH OR WITH NOT DRIVING THE CAR. CONTACTED GM AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT RECALLED ON MY YEAR BUT THEY ARE FOR THE 2005'S. OBVIOUSLY THEY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM FROM THEN. I WILL NOT BY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT EVER. *JS
I HAVE A 2009 COBALT SS. THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS STARTED SCORING AROUND 5,000 MILES AND AND REAR PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN AWAY WITH 19,800 MILES. *TR
2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS, REAR BRAKE DISC HEAVY SCORED , GROOVED,CUPPED ESPECIALLY INSIDE OF DISCS. 13,000 MILES ON CAR AND DEALER SAID TOUGH LUCK NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT IT BEFORE. THAT'S A FLAT OUT LIE, I ALSO HAVE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT LOGGED WITH GM, THEY CALLED ME BACK WITH A REFERENCE NUMBER AND SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK IN OVER A WEEK NOW. THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE GOING ON HERE AND THEY DO KNOW ABOUT IT. EITHER THE METAL OF DISC IS INCORRECT OR PADS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE OR DEFECTIVE CALIPERS- HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. *TR
BOUGHT MY 09 COBALT SS TC SEDAN WITH 3500 MILES ON IT. REAR ROTORS ALREADY HAD GROOVES AT THAT MILEAGE. MY CAR IS AT 8700 MILES NOW WITH BOTH REAR BRAKE CALIPERS HAVING TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH DEEPER GROOVES IN REAR ROTORS AND SQUEAKING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. THE FAILING REAR BRAKES CAUSED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO FAIL. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED WHILE ON A HILL AND I WALK OUTSIDE TO FIND MY CAR UNDER MY GIRLFRIENDS TRUCK! (E-BRAKE ENGAGED AND IN REVERSE) THIS WAS FIXED WITH THE CALIPERS BEING REPLACED, I STILL NEED TO HAVE MY ROTORS WORKED AS THEY ARE ALREADY TO THIS POINT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE PARKED ON A NOT SO STEEP OF A HILL, COULDN'T IMAGINE SOMEONE IN THE SAME SITUATION LIVING IN A HILLY REGION. (LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT GAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT BACK TO THE RIGHT AND ROLL OVER. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED DURING THE CRASH AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL FOR THE STEERING ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM (10V073000) AND WAS REPAIRED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. WHEN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART; HOWEVER, IT WOULD TAKE SEVEN TO TEN BUSINESS DAYS TO ARRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER GAVE FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT THE VEHICLE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATALITY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE BRAKING. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 21,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE ONCE THE KEY WAS STUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V073000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT) BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE REPAIR COSTS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
A TERRIBLE GRINDING COMING FROM REAR BRAKES. THE BRAKES WEAR OUT TOO QUICKLY (AND THE ROTORS ARE BEING SCORED AT 100MILE-20,000MILE CARS) ALSO INSIDE REAR PADS START TO GET NOISY. *TR
INSIDE REAR BRAKE PADS COMPLETELY WORN THROUGH AT AROUND 20,000 MILES. DEALER WOULD NOT COVER BRAKES SO NEW AFTERMARKET PADS WERE PURCHASED AND INSTALLED. *TR

I JUST BOUGHT A 2009 COBALT SS THAT ONLY HAS 3289 MILES ON IT AND THE REAR BRAKES ARE ALREADY GOING BAD, AND THE REAR ROTORS ARE GETTING DEEP GOUGES. THIS COULD BE A VERY BAD PROBLEM. WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS TURN INTO ANOTHER TOYOTA THING SPECIALLY WHEN THE SS IS SUCH A GREAT CAR. I THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE AND BETTER ROTORS AND PADS SHOULD BE PUT ON THE SS COBALT. *TR

REAR BRAKE ROTORS SCORED HORRIBLY WITH ONLY 10K MILES. *TR
HAVE 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS AND HAS HAD TO TURN MY REAR ROTORS FOR THE 5TH TIME SINCE I GOT THIS CAR BRAND NEW, AT 36,000 MILES NOW. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS COUPE PURCHASED NEW IN MARCH OF 2009. AFTER 15,000 MILES (ABOUT A YEAR'S WORTH OF DRIVING), THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE PITTED AND SCORED, AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED A METAL-ON-METAL GRINDING NOISE WOULD OCCUR. ALSO, AFTER GETTING WET FROM DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THEN ALLOWING TO VEHICLE TO REST FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, ENOUGH RUST WOULD BUILD UP ON THE REAR BRAKES THAT A COPIOUS AMOUNT OF THROTTLE WOULD BE NEEDED TO BREAK FREE THE PADS FROM THE ROTORS TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE SELLING DEALER FOR INSPECTION/REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THIS PART WAS A WEARABLE ITEM AND NOT COVERED UNDER MY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED THAT MOST ALL OWNERS OF COBALT SS MODELS BETWEEN THE 2008 - 2010 MODEL YEARS WERE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR REAR BRAKE ISSUES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT DID NOT MATTER. THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND IF I WOULD LIKE THEM REPAIRED/REPLACED, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS USED WITH 9000 MILES ON IT. FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT IT I CONSISTENTLY HEARD REAR BRAKE NOISE WHENEVER I STOPPED THE CAR. THERE IS EXCESSIVE PAD WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKES AT 11000 MILES NOW. WAY TOO MUCH WEAR THAN NORMAL. DEEP SCORING IN THE ROTORS. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY RESURFACED THE ROTORS BUT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE AFTER I DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM THE SHOP. SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BY THE DEALERSHIP OF CHEVY. *TR
UNEVEN AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP PULLED THE PADS THERE WHERE CHUNKS OF METAL THAT APPEARED TO BE ROTOR MATERIAL EMBEDDED IN THE PADS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY INFORMED THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. CURRENTLY, THE ENGINE WAS BEING REPLACED WITH A REBUILT ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING DRIVE SHAFT AND THE STEERING COLUMN BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THREE PASSENGERS WERE INJURED AS A RESULT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HAND, BACK, NECK AND CHEST INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 17,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AT 30 MPH, LESS THAN 10000 MILES ON THE CAR, AND THE STEERING WENT OUT. *TR
FRONT & REAR ROTORS SCORED SEVERELY WITH DEEP GROOVES THROUGHOUT. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 12,000 MILES. BRAKING IS SEVERELY HINDERED DURING WET CONDITIONS AND PERIODICALLY THE BRAKES ARE NOISING MAKING "SCREECHING" SOUNDS AS THOUGH METAL TO METAL IS TOUCHING DURING BRAKING. PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY DUE TO BRAKE PADS BEING FAR TO HARD OF A MATERIAL CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE ROTORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING SHAFT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN, STEERING SHAFT AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
PURCHASED THE CAR NEW. AT ABOUT 3,000 MILES I NOTICED SCORING ON THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS. AFTER ABOUT 12,000 MILES MY EMERGENCY BRAKE STARTED FAILING TO HOLD THE CAR ON EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HILL. AT ABOUT 14,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES STARTED TO GRIND. AT THIS POINT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE ROTORS TURNED. ONLY THE INSIDE PADS WERE WORN COMPLETELY DOWN, THE OUTSIDE PADS LOOKED RELATIVELY GOOD. *TR
BOUGHT MY 09 COBALT SS WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES AND MY REAR BRAKES SQUEAL AND GRIND HORRIBLY WITH ONLY 11,500 MILES. *TR
I HAVE 5000 MILES ON MY 09 COBALT SS AND I TOOK MY CAR IN TO PUT STAGE 1 ON AND LOOK AT MY BRAKES BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAD GROOVES IN THEM. THERE NEEDS TO BE A HIGHER QUALITY BRAKE AND ROTOR PUT ON THE REARS. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE LOWER BEARINGS ON THE STEERING COLUMN WAS THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND SPOKE WITH AN ENGINEER, WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS NOT A REMEDY AVAILABLE FOR THE FAILURE AND THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THE COMPONENT REPLACED EVERY 3,000 MILES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN VEERING TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO AN ONCOMING VEHICLE; THE VEHICLE THEN SPUN AROUND AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) A WEEK PRIOR TO THE CRASH; WHEN SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE DEFECT WAS NOT DANGEROUS. THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,300.

PURCHASED CAR BRAND NEW, HAVE APPROX 10K MILES ON IT. REAR BRAKE CALIPERS SEEM TO NOT RELEASE FULLY- CAN BE HEARD GRINDING WHEN REVERSING AND SCREECHING WHEN GENTLY BRAKING WHILE MOVING FORWARD. REAR BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING UNEVENLY SO THAT THE OUTSIDE PAD IS SCORING THE ROTOR AND WEARING MUCH FASTER THAN THE INSIDE. POSSIBLE THAT THE SLIDER PINS ON THE CALIPER ARE NOT LUBRICATED? I'VE HAD MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LOOK AT IT, THEY WROTE IT OFF AS BRAKES BEING A "WEAR&TEAR" ITEM. 2009 COBALT SS WITH DISC REAR BRAKES. MILEAGE 16588. THE REAR BRAKES ARE GETTING EXTREMELY SCORED (LOOK LIKE A RECORD WITH GROVES) AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PARKING BRAKE IS DRAGGING. I NOTICED THIS STARTED 2 DAYS AGO WHEN IT FELT LIKE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS STILL ENGAGED WHEN I WENT TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. THE REAR OF THE CAR SQUATTED DOWN, TO ME INDICATE THE BRAKE WAS HUNG UP. THEN I HEARD A "TWANG" SOUND FOLLOWED BY A POP. IT SOUND LIKE A BRING THAT WAS HUNG UP FINALLY LET LOOSE. AFTER THAT INCIDENT I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT AT SPEED LESS THAN 10 MPH YOU GET A NOTICEABLE SCRAPING SOUND FROM THE REAR BRAKES. IT SOUND SIMILAR TO WHEN YOU TURN ROTORS ON A BRAKE LATHE. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING REALLY BADLY AT 5000 MILES ON MY NEW 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS. WHILE PERFORMING A TIRE ROTATION, I INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS FOR UNUSUAL WEAR. I NOTICED TWO REALLY DEEP GROOVES/SCORES ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE ROTOR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY AGREED THAT WAS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND REPLACED THE ROTOR. THE BRAKES STILL SQUEAK BUT NOT AS BAD. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THOUGH THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND IN A NEW CAR AND AM EMBARRASSED TO COME TO A STOP WITH ALL THE SQUEALING. I WAS HANDED A TSB (#08-05-22-004) STATING THAT SQUEAKING BRAKES ARE NORMAL AND ARE NOT TO BE REPAIRED. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT NO ONE TOLD ME TO EXPECT SUCH AWFUL NOISES FROM MY NEW CAR WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS OF DRIVING IT. *TR

WHEN THIS WOULD OCCUR, THE CONTACT WOULD ATTEMPT TO DECREASE SPEED BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, TO NO AVAIL. HE HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,170.
REAR DISC BRAKES ON MY 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS TURBOCHARGED HAVE FAILED AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES. THIS HAS CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE STEERED OUT OF CONTROL TRAVELING THROUGH BUSHES AND CRASHED INTO SEVERAL TREES. THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES TO THE HEAD, RIGHT LEG AND LOWER BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
