TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE DEFLATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE WHEELS WERE BENT, WHICH ALLOWED AIR TO ESCAPE PAST THE BEAD OF THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000......UPDATED 05/09/13 *BF UPDATED 05/31/2013 *JS
ROTORS ARE SCORED AND NEED REPLACED ON REAR AFTER ONLY 15K MILES. *TR
SEVERE GROOVING ON REAR BRAKE ROTORS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES. INBOARD BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING FASTER THAN OUTBOARDS. ALSO A NOTICEABLE GRINDING NOISE UPON APPLYING BRAKES. THIS ISSUE WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF MANUFACTURER'S DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL CONDITION AND NO REPAIR IS NEEDED. FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS APPEAR TO BE WEARING NORMALLY. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 14,000 MILES AND REAR BRAKE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE BECOMING MORE SEVERE. *TR
MY BRAKES VIBRATE AND HAVE DEEP GROOVES IN THEM AND I ALMOST GOT TURNED DOWN FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS FROM IMPROPER USE OF MY VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THE STEERING COMPONENT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 440. UPDATED 11/23/09. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WOULD BIND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A FEATURE DESIGNED TO SHUT DOWN THE ELECTRIC STEERING PUMP. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHEN I GO TO MAKE A SHARP TURN. (THE WHEEL WILL NOT TURN UNLESS I GIVE IT GAS AND GO STRAIGHT FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THEN SOMETIMES IT WILL THEN TURN.) GARAGE SAYS THAT COMPUTER DOESN'T SHOW ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT...BUT WILL TAKE IT BACK TO GARAGE AGAIN AND AGAIN...UNTIL THEY TELL ME THAT A RECALL IS ON IT. I PRAY THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN I'M IN HEAVY TRAFFIC! VERY DANGEROUS! *TR
2009 CHEVROLET COBALT HAS UNSAFE STEERING. MINE PULLED TO THE LEFT SO BAD AT TIMES IT WAS HARD TO HOLD ON MY SIDE OF THE ROAD. TOOK TO DEALER THREE TIMES. FIRST TIME THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. NEXT TWO TIMES THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO FAULTS. I TRADED IT OFF. UNSAFE TO DRIVE TO ME. STOP SELLING THAT CAR TILL IT'S FIXED. IT'S UNSAFE. *TR
REAR BRAKES ON VEHICLE BEGIN BY SQUEAKING REGULARLY. UPON INSPECTING THEM AT ROUGHLY 6000 MILES ON THE BRAND NEW CAR, THE INNER BRAKE PADS ARE COMPLETELY WORN WHILE THE OUTER PADS ARE NEARLY NEW (AS THEY SHOULD BE). ONE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THIS IS THAT THE PARKING BRAKE SPRING IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE INNER PADS FROM RUBBING THE ROTORS WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS DISENGAGED. GM SHOULD RECALL THIS BRAKE ISSUE AS IT WILL CONTINUE TO COST BUYERS HUNDREDS EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES, WHEN ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS LIKELY A SPRING WITH A BETTER SPRING RATE. *TR
MY CAR WOULD CHIME FOR ME TO LOOK AT INSTRUMENT PANEL TO SEE THAT THE "AIRBAGS NEEDED TO BE SERVICED".IT WOULD GIVE ME THIS MESSAGE EVERY 15 MINS. FOR THE HOUR DRIVE I WAS ON THE ROAD. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALER & SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. THAT AFTERNOON WHEN THEY WERE DONE WITH MY CAR I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC HAD ALREADY SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES & KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. MY PRINT OUT FROM SERVICE READS "DIAGNOSTIC CODE #B0012 STORED IN SYSTEM TEST CIRCUIT, MODULE SHORTING OUT UNDER STEERING WHEEL , REPLACED SIR COIL & REPAIR CIRCUIT.* MY CAR IS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT LT (JUST PURCHASED 06/05/09) WITH 2600 MILES. *TR
CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE BACK BRAKE PADS WORE OUT. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC HE SAID SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND GET IT FIXED FOR FREE DUE TO FAULTY INSTALL. DEALER ASSURED ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND CHARGED ME A 60 DOLLAR DIAGNOSTIC FEE. WHY WOULD THE BACK BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT BEFORE THE FRONT..AND WHY AT 15,000 MILES WITH CONSERVATIVE DRIVING? SOMETHING IS CLEARLY FAULTY WITH EITHER THE BRAKE PADS THEMSELVES OR HOW THEY ARE BEING INSTALLED. *TR
THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT ON THE SAME PROBLEM, SEE #10278491. EXCESSIVE SCORING OF REAR BRAKE ROTORS. THE DEALER TURNED THE ROTORS AT 4600 MILES, AT MY COST. SUBSEQUENTLY, CHEVROLET ACTION CENTER SENT ME A LETTER FOR $100 CREDIT ON SERVICE. NOW AT 7500 MILES, THEY LOOK PRETTY BAD AGAIN. THE DEALER AGREED THIS TIME TO WARRANTY PADS & ROTORS, ONE TIME ONLY. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT CAUSING A SAFETY PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF REPORTS THAT THE CALIPER PINS WERE NOT LUBRICATED AT THE FACTORY, CAUSING BINDING OF THE PADS ON THE ROTORS. OTHERS BELIEVE THERE IS A PAD/ROTOR INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUE. *TR
THE INSIDE BRAKE PADS ON MY 2009 COBALT SS TURBO CHEW UP WAY TOO QUICKLY. THEY WORE OUT ON THE INSIDE WITH LESS THAN A YEAR OF HIGHWAY DRIVING. THEY WEAR UNEVENLY WITH THE OUTSIDE BRAKE PADS IN THE REAR AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, WHICH ARE STILL THE THICKNESS OF NEW. *TR
I OWN A 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS/TC WITH LESS THAN 15K MILES ON IT MY REAR BRAKES HAVE BECOME COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE WITH UNUSUAL WEAR PROPERTIES TO THE INSIDE PAD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, AND THIS TIME THE PAD MATERIAL SEPARATED FROM THE BACKING PLATE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE MAKING THE CAR PULL TOWARDS THE RIGHT ANYTIME I SLOW DOWN AND LOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE DESPITE HAVING ABS ANYTIME IT RAINS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 COBALT TO WORK IN SEPTEMBER 2009 I WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT WHICH TOTALLY DEMOLISHED MY CAR. I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE INTERSTATE ON A CLEAR DRY MORNING WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC, AROUND 70 MPH WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE LANES WHILE SLIGHTLY BRAKING. THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO CORRECT. I HIT THE CABLE BARRIER IN THE MEDIAN GOING BACKWARDS AND THE CAR SPUN AROUND AFTER HITTING THE BARRIER REPEATEDLY. FROM THE MINUTE THE HIGHWAY PATROL ARRIVED I HAVE BEEN ASKED WHAT HAPPENED. I EXPLAINED TO THE OFFICER THAT THE CAR JUST WENT OUT OF CONTROL,LIKE HITTING SAND OR GRAVEL BUT THERE WAS NONE ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE ROAD THAT WE COULD SEE AND HE DID NOT ISSUE ME A TICKET. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WANTED TO KNOW IF I WAS TEXTING OR BLACKED OUT AND IF I WAS DRUG TESTED. NO TO ALL OF THE ABOVE! I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 30 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT. MY DRIVING RECORD IS CLEAR. I BELIEVE NOW THAT I LOOK BACK ON THE ACCIDENT THAT THE POWER STEERING MY HAVE FAILED SENDING ME OUT OF CONTROL. I OWN TWO OTHER COBALTS THAT MY CHILDREN DRIVE AND THIS CONCERNS ME GREATLY. MY COBALT WAS REPLACED WITH A CHEVY IMPALA. *TR
MY CAR HAS VERY LOW KMS JUST OVER 1000KMS AND MY REAR BRAKES ARE ALREADY NOISY AND THE ROTORS SCORED. *TR
2009 COBALT SS. THE INNER REAR BRAKE PADS ARE COMPLETELY GONE WHILE THE OUTER BRAKE PADS STILL HAVE OVER 80% LIFE LEFT ON IT. BROUGHT THE CAR TO RICK HENDRICK CHEVY AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL. THE CAR HAS 23K MILES ON IT, JUST ABOUT ALL OF THAT IS HIGH WAY MILES. I DRIVE THE CAR NORMAL AND DO NO ABUSE IT. ALSO WANT TO STATE THAT THE FRONT BRAKES STILL HAVE OVER 50% LIFE LEFT. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW ON 12/1/08. MILEAGE 75 MILES. WE'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THREE DEALERSHIPS WITH A COMPLAINT OF NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. IT WAS DETERMINED A LOWER BEARING IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FAULTY AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. TO DATE THE STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN REPLACED 7 TIMES BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY LOWER BEARING AND G.M. SAYS THERE ISN'T A FIX FOR IT. I'M CONCERNED THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT'S A FAULTY STEERING COLUMN BEARING AND IF IT SEIZES I WOULD ASSUME IT COULD CAUSE A CRASH/WRECK SINCE STEERING WOULD APPARENTLY NO LONGER BE AN OPTION. *TR
REAR BRAKES FAILING FAR TO QUICKLY, LESS THAN 23,000KM, RESULTS IN VERY LOUD SCREECHING/GRINDING NOISE. *TR
REAR BRAKES SEQUEL REALLY BAD AT TIMES AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE CAR HAS LESS THEN TWO THOUSAND MILES ALSO ON THE 20TH OF SEPTEMBER THE SHIFTER LINKAGE BROKE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO PUT CAR IN GEAR. *TR
MY COBALT SS T/C HAS 9000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A VERY LOUD SQUEAL COMING FROM THE FRONT BRAKES SINCE 5000 MILES. ROTORS WERE TURNED BY DEALERSHIP AND PADS REPLACED YET THE SQUEAL REMAINS. A SQUEAL SO LOUD IT CAN'T BE IGNORED YET GM STATES IN A BULLETIN RELEASED RECENTLY THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKES. GM NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS BRAKING SYSTEM IN RECENT MONTHS. THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE STEERING COLUMN BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE FAILURE ONLY RECURRED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IN ADDITION, THE IGNITION FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY UPON STARTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE STEERING MALFUNCTION PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT NO LONGER OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,900.

REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING DOWN UNUSUALLY FAST, PARTICULARLY ON THE INSIDE SURFACE WHERE IT IS HARD TO SEE. BRAKE ROTORS ARE GROOVING SEVERELY. DEALER HAS RESURFACED THE ROTORS AND SANDED THE PADS ONCE ALREADY LESS THAN 4000 MILES AGO, AND NOW THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. CLEARLY, FAILING BRAKES IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. *TR
THE STOCK ROTORS ON MY CAR STARTED GETTING SEVERELY WARPED WITHIN THE FIRST 3-4 MONTHS OF OWNING THE CAR. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I PURCHASES IT. I REPLACED THE BRAKES AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR 10 MONTHS AND THE CAR HAD ABOUT 14,000 MILES. I SHOWED THE DEALER THE ROTORS AND THEY RESURFACED THEM. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR WITH NEW BRAKES SINCE JUNE 2010, THE NEW BRAKES ARE ALREADY SQUEAKING AND ROTORS HAVE SEVERE GROOVES ON THEM. I PURCHASED THE CAR JUNE 2009 BRAND NEW. *TR

WE WERE COMING BACK TO MARYLAND FROM A BIRTHDAY PARTY IN SPRINGFIELD, OHIO. WHILE COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAINIST AREA OF I-69, THE FRONT END STARTED TO WOBBLE WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER IN LAUREL, MD WHEN WE GOT HOME. INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART. THEY TURN THE ROTOR. I HAD TO GO THE AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES AND FRONT ROTORS REPLACED TO COMPLETELY CORRECT THE PROBLEM THAT THE CERTIFIED MECHANICS AT CHEVROLET COULD NOT CORRECT. *JS
THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS ARE FAILING AT JUST 2400 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE INNER PADS HAVE WORN DOWN TOO QUICKLY, CAUSING EXCESSIVE GROOVING ON THE ROTORS. THIS HAS DECREASED BRAKES PERFORMANCE VASTLY. *TR
BACKGROUND: I HAVE A CHEVY COBALT ('07) AND CURRENTLY HAVING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICED HUNDREDS OF OWNERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY(US). 1. PROBLEM OCCURS AFTER START DRIVING FOR COUPLE HUNDREDS FEET OR LESS. REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, PROBLEM WILL OCCUR. 2. HOW OFTEN? VARIES FROM COUPLE MINUTES TO COUPLE SECONDS, BUT PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME THE CAR RUNS. 3. SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE AND REIGNITE IT AGAIN. THIS WILL RESTART THE PROGRAMMING OF THE VEHICLE BUT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AFTER COUPLE OF HUNDRED OF FEET, PROBLEM ARISE. *TR
REAR BRAKES DISC'S GROOVING AT 4000 MILES . I'VE OWNED THE CAR SINCE NEW SO I CAN SAY FOR SURE THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY ABUSE TO THE BRAKES. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT MY CAR IN APRIL OF 2009. I OWN A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS AND I AM SEEING A FAIRLY QUICK BRAKE WEAR RATING ON THE BACK BRAKES. UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION, I NOTICE THE BRAKES HAVE SOME PRETTY DEEP GROVES WHICH I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE ON BRAKES DISCS ON A CAR. I RESEARCHED THESE GROOVES ONLINE AND APPARENTLY ITS CALLED "SCORCHING". ITS WHAT'S RESPONSIBLE FOR WEARING THE BRAKES AS QUICKLY AS THEY ARE. IT SEEMS TOO BE CAUSED BY FRAGMENTS OF METAL NOT FILED DOWN ON THE REAR CALIPERS ETCHING OUT THE REAR ROTORS. ITS ALSO BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE CALIPERS COMPRESS THE REAR ROTORS HARDER ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROTOR THAN THE OUTSIDE. THIS MIGHT BE ANOTHER REASON TO THE SCORCHING. *TR
AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT CRASH THAT CAUSED $7,200 IN DAMAGE AND ON STAR DID NOT CALL OR REPORT THE CRASH. WHEN I ASKED WHY, I WAS TOLD "BECAUSE THE "BRAINS" OF ONSTAR WAS "KNOCKED OUT" IN THE CRASH, THAT SHUT DOWN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND OTHER SAFETY MEASURES." FORTUNATELY, THIS CRASH DID NOT CAUSE ANY BODILY HARM TO THE PERSON INVOLVED, BUT THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE CAR WAS PUSHED IN, RADIATOR WAS PUSHED BACK, WITH LOTS OF OTHER DAMAGE. THE PERSON IN THE CAR WAS FINE, BUT IF THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE BEEN PUSHED IN FURTHER IN, IT COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE LAP OR, EVEN WORSE, THE CHEST OF THE PERSON DRIVING. I DO NOT HAVE ON STAR FOR IT TO BE "DISABLED" IN A CRASH BECAUSE OF WHERE IT IS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE EXAMINED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE DOES REALLY GET HURT, IF THIS HAD NOT HAPPENED ALREADY. *TR

MY COBALT WAS PURCHASED 3/5/2009, AND HAS ONLY 5400 MILES ON IT AS OF 9/8/2009. I DO NOT DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY AND THE CAR IS PRETTY MUCH JUST DAILY DRIVEN TO WORK/HOME. THE REAR BRAKES ARE ALREADY EXHIBITING WHAT I'D CONSIDER TO BE ABNORMAL WEAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED TO MY OTHER VEHICLES. THE ROTORS ARE BECOMING DEEPLY SCORED AND THE INSIDE BRAKE PADS ARE WORN MUCH MORE THAN THE OUTSIDE. HAVE BEEN TOLD ME THIS IS "NORMAL" (ALONG WITH A HOST OF OTHER ISSUES, INCLUDING OIL LEAKS FROM THE ENGINE). THERE ARE SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE ON A NATIONAL COBALT FORUM ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THE ROOT CAUSE APPEARS TO BE THE PARKING BRAKE NOT FULLY ALLOWING THE CALIPER TO RETRACT, BUT I'M NOT AN ENGINEER. *TR
REAR BRAKES WEAR OUT TOO QUICKLY, HORRIBLE SCORING ON THE ROTORS. NOISE ISSUES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING THE CONTACT LOSS CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS FORCED SHUT THE ENGINE OFF SO THAT IT COULD RESET ITSELF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 650.
DRIVER DIED IN A SOLO CAR ACCIDENT INVOLVING A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. AFTER SWERVING FROM HIS TO THE NEXT, THE DRIVER COULD NOT SAFELY RETURN TO HIS LANE. HIS CAR JUST WENT OFF THE ROAD AND CRASHED. THE STEERING ON THE CAR JUST DID NOT SEEM TO WORK TOGETHER WITH THE CAR BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, DOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, MY 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS SHED IT'S INNER LEFT REAR BRAKE PAD, CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SINK TO THE FLOOR, WHEN PRESSED, TO NO AVAIL. LUCKILY, NO ACCIDENT RESULTED. UPON INSPECTION, THE LEFT INNER PAD WAS COMPLETELY GONE, WHILE THE LEFT OUTER, AND BOTH RIGHT REAR PADS WERE WELL WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. THE GM DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, STATING THAT IT WAS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". A MECHANIC AT THE DEALER WHISPERED TO ME THAT IT WAS A FAILURE THAT WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY THE CALIPER NOT RETRACTING PROPERLY, AND, WHILE IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT ABOUT 12,000 MILES, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD. THE REAR BRAKE PADS, AS WELL AS, THE LEFT REAR ROTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THERE IS A STRONG FUEL ODOR. IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME AS THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000. THAT ID NUMBER COVERS RECALLS IN SEVERAL STATES BUT TENNESSEE IS NOT INCLUDED. I BELIEVE TENNESSEE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS WELL. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES OF MY 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS ARE WORN DOWN THE METAL AFTER APPROX. 15 000KM. THE INSIDE PADS WAS METAL ON METAL, AND THE OUT SIDE PADS WERE FOUND TO BE STILL 80%. ALL PARTS ARE BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER ALL PARTS WERE REPLACED. REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE BEING REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING A CLANKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING SHAFT WERE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11000.
BRAKE PADS WEAR AT AN EXTRAORDINARY RATE. THEY HAVE ALSO GOUGED THE ROTORS. THIS IS ON A BRAND NEW 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS, LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON THE CAR (PURCHASED IN APRIL). THE BRAKES CONTINUALLY SQUEAK, AND HAVE DONE SO SINCE I PICKED UP THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED IT WAS A "BREAK-IN" PERIOD, BUT CLEARLY IT SHOULDN'T LAST THIS LONG. THE SQUEALING, IN ADDITION TO BEING ANNOYING, MAY POSE A SAFETY RISK DUE TO THE ACCELERATED PACE AT WHICH THEY BRAKE SYSTEM WEARS. I NOTICED AFTER A CAR/WHEEL WASH, THE NOISE DISSIPATES, BUT RETURNS SOON THEREAFTER. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE LONGEVITY OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR

REMAINING FRONT BRAKES HAD MORE THAN 60 PERCENT OF LIFE. REAR BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY GONE. REAR BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE IS REASON, BUT CHEVROLET REFUSES TO ADMIT FAULT. *TR
