LOSE ALL POWER STEERING RANDOMLY WITH NO WARNING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. BOB HOOK CHEVROLET (4144 BARDSTOWN RD, LOUISVILLE, KY 40218, (866)935-6819) WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN TOOL SEARCH PROVIDED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000.
WITH NO RECENT CHANGES TO THE CAR, IT WON'T START, THEFT LOCK SYMBOL IS ON. TRIED THE SPARE KEY. TRIED THEFT LOCK RELEARN 10 MINUTE AND 30 MINUTE PROCEDURE. DISCONNECTED AND RE-CONNECTED NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL. NONE OF THE STEPS WORKED. THIS ISSUE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO KEEP FAMILIES STRANDED.
MY CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING TO HEAT UP AND I WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK I SAW ON THE MENU SCREEN IT SAID POWER STEERING SO WHEN I WENT TO BACK OUT I COULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT IT WAS VERY STIFF I HAD ALSO HEARD A RATTLE IN MY STEERING WHEEL A COUPLE WEEKS PREVIOUS TO THIS HAPPENING
The air bag never deployed I bought car in 2018 from original owner with car only having 33,000 miles on it and still under warranty til car had 100,000 miles and I hit a deer head on 2 months after getting car which bought in may of 2018 hit the deer in July 2018 . The deer was hit with the front passenger side it broke my headlight n messed my hood up and smashed in the grill little and my air bags never deployed I hit deer at 50 mph , after that had happened I took it in to Chevy dealership and had them look at car cause I told them I hit that deer and air bag never deployed and that my air bag light came on once in awhile and said service air bag . The dealership said they do that sometimes and did something to make light go off that was it my air vag light still comes on and says service air bag . Also ignition switch and fuel smell foul coming from car a lot and is as I speak . My reduce engine power light comes on a lot and have no power to gas pedal n car won’t stay running . I have try to get two recalls fixed back in 2-21 I was having problems with my car back then too special reach called me in Jan of 2021 and told me that there were two recalls on my car ignition switch and fuel module so I informed dealership when I took my car in That next month in feb 21 told them I was informed on 2 active recalls on my car . When they were done with my car later that day I asked them if they fixed the recalls they said no cause it was map sensor so I then made an appt to get recalls fixed when I got there for the recalls to be fixed one of the technicians told me it shows that they were done . I called Chevy and complained about the issue I just had and never had recalls fixed but they must of put it in computer they fixed them So I’ve been really upset that I been trying to get past recalls fixed that are on my car and I get run around and told there isn’t any I know about a past recall on shift selnoid low circuit too that was a past recal
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,780.
SMELL OF FUEL OUTSIDE VEHICLE. MECHANIC SAID CAR HAD A FUEL LINE LEAK AND THEY NEEDED REPLACING
THE FUEL LINES HAVE CORRODED CAUSING A HAZARDOUS GAS LEAK BY THE FUEL TANK WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SEVERE FIRE AND OR EXPLOSION WHILE DRIVING. I NOTICED A GAS SMELL IN THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED AND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION RECOGNIZED A GAS DRIP BY THE THE CORRODED FUEL LINES AND GAS TRAVELING DOWN THE LINES FROM THE LEAK. THANKFULLY I NOTICED THIS BEFORE A FIRE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. HAD I HAD A DISABILITY WITH NO SENSE OF SMELL OR COVID19 AND NO SENSE OF SMELL THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE GONE UNNOTICED POSSIBLY CAUSING A FATAL HAZARD SHOULD THE CAR HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING. MY GARAGE COULD HAVE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE. STAINLESS STEEL SHOULD NOT RUST AND THIS IS CLEARLY A DANGEROUS DEFECT BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS MATTER SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AND A RECALL ADDRESSED.
FUEL LEAK,. FUEL LEAKAGE FROM CAR, WILL NO LONGER START. BAD FUEL PUMP,BAD FUEL LINES. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL FOR THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW?
GAS LEAK BY DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL
SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE COMES ON WITH WARNING LIGHT MOSTLY IN COLDER TEMPERATURES AND WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS RANDOM AND DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME. HAPPENS WHEN JUST STARTING THE VEHICLE AND ALSO WHEN IN MOTION AND TURNING. DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO FIND AN ISSUE.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the contact struck a deer. The air bags did not deploy. Additionally, while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact restarted the vehicle. There was an abnormal sulfur and fuel odor detected. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the MAP sensor needed to be reset. The mechanic reset the air bag light. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the air bag failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
STRONG GAS SMELL IN VEHICLE AS I WAS DRIVING
FUEL LINE LEAKING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE REAR. PROBABLY CORROSION RELATED. NOTICEABLE ODOR WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED AFTER DRIVING.
FUEL LEAK FOUND BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE RESULTING IN A PUDDLE OF FUEL ON THE FLOOR. THIS LEAK WAS FOUND WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS WELL AS WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OFF.
FUEL LINE ARE CORRODED AND LEAKING FUEL NEAR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND MUFFLER
NO START ISSUE. BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR GOOD. WONT START AFTER IT'S BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR. WHEN YOU TURN CAR OFF IT WON'T START UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE BECAUSE IT WON'T START WHEN I COME OUT OF STORE ST SHOP AGAIN. NEW STARTER PUT IN AND WON'T START. THEY ARE GOING TO KEEP LOOKING
NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE20011 COMPONENTS FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER OPENED FROM: JULY 5, 2020'PRESENT FUEL LEAK EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED. I OWN 2 COBALTS (2007 LT AND 2009 SS) AND BOTH HAVE THIS ISSUE. DEALERSHIP WANTS $700 TO FIX AN ISSUE CAUSED BY OEM DESIGN.
THERE IS A FUEL LEAK IN FRONT OF THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THIS LEAK IS WORSE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THEY WOULD PAY TO REPAIR (AFTER I PAID THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RESUMING DRIVING AND AT 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARAMUS CHEVROLET, INC. (194 NEW JERSEY 17, PARAMUS, NJ 07652, (201)261-7100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
THE FIRST TIME I SMELLED GAS AND FOUND THE GAS LINE LEAKING FROM A BRACKET HOLDING THE GAS LINES WAS ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO (2018), COST $100 DOLLARS TO GET FIXED. NOW THERE IS ANOTHER GAS LEAK FARTHER BACK NEAR THE GAS TANK COMING FROM ANOTHER BRACKET. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE GIVE THIS MANY PROBLEMS WITH GAS LINE LEAKS. I DRIVE THE CAR ALMOST EVERY DAY, IT RARELY SITS FOR MORE THAN 2 DAYS IN A ROW
I COULD HEAR A LITTLE SOMETHING MOVING AROUND UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE AGE. THEN FRONT WHEELS WHERE SHAKING JUST A BIT. THIS SHAKING PROCEEDED RAPIDLY AS IF I NEED AN ALIGNMENT OR TIRE BALANCING. THEN MY STEERING WENT OUT!!!!
OBSERVED AN EXTENDED CRANKING TIME. DROVE TO MY DESTINATION DURING THE TRIP KEPT SMELLED HEAVY FUEL ODOR WHILE IT INTENSIFIED WHEN WAITING ON A TRAFFIC LIGHT. UPON PARKING THE CAR AT HOME IMMEDIATELY UPON EXIT NOTICED A PUDDLE OF GAS COLLECTING BY THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL. LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND FOUND GAS LEAKING FROM A CORRODED FUEL LINE.
FUEL LEAK FROM FUEL LINE IN THE REAR ON VEHICLE. CORROSION TO FUEL LINE. LEAKS BADLY WHEN RUNNING! LONG ENGINE CRANK AFTER SITTING A SHORT TIME. LEAVES PUDDLE OF FUEL UNDER VEHICLE. FUEL SMELL ALL THE TIME.
FIRST TIME PLASTIC FUEL LINE CRACKED AT FUEL PUMP AND WHOLE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACED. NOW THERE IS A FUEL LINE THAT HAS CORRODED. IT IS COSTING $1030 AT THE CHEVY DEALER TO FIX THIS LINE. FUEL IS LEAKING BEHIND THE DRIVER DOOR IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE. WHEN LIFTED FUEL APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM ABOVE FUEL TANK.
Fuel line rusted to the point of major leakage. Inside the heat wrap near the exhaust pipe, just forward of rear drivers side tire.
FUEL LINES RUSTED OUT NEAR LEFT REAR WHEEL WHERE LINES ARE SECURED BY A PLASTIC BLOCK. FUEL IS DRIPPING AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE IF IGNIGHTED BY THE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
MY CAR IS LEAKING GAS FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I NOTICED A SMELL AND IT'S DRIPPING
THE FUEL LINE UNDER THE CAR HAS RUSTED AND CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT I AM LEAKING A STEADY STREAM OF FUEL OUT OF THE LINE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, I SMELLED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE CAR STRUGGLED TO START SO I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND LOOKED UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE A LARGE PUDDLE OF FUEL WAS FOUND UNDER MY CAR WITH A STEADY DRIP OF FUEL CONTINUING TO DRIP FROM THE FUEL LINE IN FRONT OF MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE.
STRONG GASOLINE VAPORS WHILE DRIVING AND AFTER STOPPING ON A 2009 COBALT, DRIVERS'S SIDE OF THE CAR. TOOK THE COBALT TO EMPIRE CHEVROLET IN HUNTINGTON, NY. COMPLAINED AND SHOWED THEM THE NTSB COBALT FUEL LINE INVESTIGATION SHEET, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX THE COBALT UNDER A RECALL, NTSB INVESTIGATION OR SERVICE BULLETIN. TOOK THE COBALT TO MY LOCAL GARAGE WHO REPLACED TWO LEAKING FUEL LINES FOR $450.00, BILL INCLUDED AS AN ATTACHMENT. THEY SAID THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY OF THESE OVER THE YEARS. THIS IS A TOTAL JOKE ON GM'S PART AND COMPLETE FOOT DRAGGING BY THE NTSB FOR NOT MOVING SOONER. INVESTIGATING? - TRY DOING A WEB SEARCH.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JOHN HIESTER CHEVROLET (3100 N MAIN ST, FUQUAY-VARINA, NC 27526, (919) 552-4944), WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
RUSTED OUT FUEL LINES LEAKING BADLY ON FLOOR LOOKS LIKE A FIRE HAZARD!! I NOTICED A VERY STRONG ORDER OF GASOLINE AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH CARS TO SEE IT DRIPPING AT A VERY FAST RATE I NOTICED IT AS I CAME BACK FROM A DRIVE ON FLAT SURFACE WAS HIGHWAY DRIVING
I FIRST STARTED HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY CAR ON 9/15/20. I WAS SMELLING A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM MY CAR. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT IT BECAUSE IT HAD NEVER GIVEN ME TROUBLE BEFORE. I SAW THE CAR LEAKING GASOLINE NEAR THE DRIVERS REAR TIRE. IT WAS LEAKING VERY QUICKLY. I LOOKED IT UP AND MANY PEOPLE MENTIONED A RECALL FOR THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CAR. THEY ALL SAID THEIR PARTICULAR CAR DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. I THINK MORE CARS ARE HAVING THAT PROBLEM THEN THE COMPANY REALIZES. I AM AFRAID TO HAVE THE CAR PARKED ON THE STREET OR TO EVEN DRIVE IT, AS IT ALWAYS LEAVES A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE IN ITS WAKE. ALSO THE MUFFLER HAS STARTED BEING LOUD AT THE SAME TIME. I THE COMPLAINTS I READ BEING THE EXACT SAME, SAID THE PROBLEM WAS CORROSION IN THE GAS LINE STEMMING FROM THE BRACKETS HOLD THEM UP.
KEPT SEEING PUDDLES UNDERNEATH CAR NEAR DRIVER REAR TIRE, WENT TO GET OIL CHANGE AND MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE WERE LEAKS IN MY FUEL LINE. MECHANIC SHOWED ME AND IT WAS NOT A SMALL LEAK. HE SAID THAT IT IS A TOTAL RISK TO DRIVE AND CAN CATCH FIRE EASILY.
I FILLED UP TANK WITH GAS ,NOTICED GAS SMELL TWICE DID NOT SEE ANYTHING ,STARTER SKIPPED A BEAT A COUPLE TIMES WHEN STARING EARLY IN THE MORNING,, DIDNT NOTICE GAS SMELL. CHARGED CAR FOR 6 HOURS ON CHARGER.NEXT MORNING I DROVE ABOUT 8 MILES AFTER SITTING FOR AN HOUR I WENT BACK TO CAR AND NOTICED PUDDLE OF LIQUID ,SMELLED LIQUID ,, IT WAS GAS , SEEN IT DRIPPING RAPIDLY IN BIG DROPS ,CALLED AAA GOT THERE HOUR LATER AND IT HAD STOPPED.DRIPPED BEHIND REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR IN FRONT OF REAR TIRE.HAD IT TOWED READ ALOT OF THESE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS WITH COBALTS AND OTHER VEHICLES SAME CIRCUMSTANCES BUT SOME NOT COVER BY A RECALL ,FUEL LINES AND PUMPS ETC..ALL THE CARS SHOULD BE FIXED WITH THIS PROBLEM.ANYTIME
FUEL LINE BEHIND DRIVER DOOR AND IN FRONT OF REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE/AXEL - RUSTED AND LEAKING FUEL NEAR EXHAUST.
THE VEHICLE HAS FUEL LEAK WHEN EVER THE CAR IS RUNNING. NOTICE THIS FIRST TIME WHEN OIL CHANGE WAS DONE. IT DRIPS FROM THE FUEL TANK DOWN TO THE DRIVER SIDE REAR END IN FRONT OF THE REAL DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. WHEN INQUIRED OVER THE INTERNET FOUND NUMEROUS SAME PROBLEM BEING CITED BY THE COBALT OWNERS. SURPRISED THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE POTENTIAL SEVERE CONSEQUNCE OF FIRE HAZARD.
LEAKS ARE CAUSED BY CORROSION OF METAL FUEL LINES NEAR POLYMER BLOCKS THAT HOLD THE LINES TO THE BODY. THE LEAKS ARE BENEATH AN INSULATION HEAT SHIELD NEAR THE EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
THE LEAKS ARE CAUSED BY CORROSION OF METAL FUEL LINES NEAR POLYMER BLOCKS THAT HOLD THE LINES TO THE BODY. THE LEAKS ARE BENEATH AN INSULATION HEAT SHIELD NEAR THE EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2010 WITH ABOUT 8,000 MILES ON IT AND IT'S BEEN A GARAGE KEPT CAR. THE CORROSION IS JUST ON THE GAS LINES AND NOT SO MUCH ON THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE.
MY COBALT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A FUEL LEAK. UP UNTIL I BROUGHT IT INTO SERVICE, IT HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES ACCELERATING. IT WOULD SOMETIMES FEEL AS THOUGH IT WOULD GET STUCK INTO A SLUMP, WHERE EVEN DEPRESSING THE PEDAL COMPLETELY WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE UP TO AROUND 45-50MPH. THIS WOULD THEN EVENTUALLY GET UNSTUCK AFTER COMING TO A STOP, OR AFTER SHUTTING DOWN AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE HAD BEEN STARTING TO OCCUR OVER THE PAST YEAR. ALSO WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS OR SO, THE CAR'S ACCELERATION STARTED BECOMING RATHER JERKY. IT WAS NOT A SMOOTH TRANSITION DURING THE ACCELERATION AND ROAD RATHER ROUGH DURING MY COMMUTES INTO TOWN. I HAD ATTEMPTED TO FLUSH OUT THE FUEL SYSTEM WITH 2-3 CANS OF SEAFOAM TO NO AVAIL. HERE RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES STARTING. FOR THE PAST 2-3 WEEKS IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS TO START UP RATHER THAN INSTANTLY, AND THEN WITHIN THE PAST WEEK IT BEGAN NOT STARTING AT ALL UNTIL I TOGGLED THE KEY ON/OFF MULTIPLE TIMES TO PRIME THE FUEL. IT WOULD THEN USUALLY BE GOOD TO GO FOR THE ENTIRE DAY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER DOWN THE STREET, AND THEY INFORMED ME THIS MORNING THAT IT IS A FUEL LEAK. THEY INDICATED THEY DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE MORE INFORMATION FROM THE MECHANIC ON THE PRECISE LOCATION BESIDES THAT IT IS A 'FUEL LEAK' AND THEY INDICATED THEY DID NOT KNOW OF ANY OPEN INVESTIGATION ON THE MATTER, ONLY ACTIVE RECALLS. I REQUESTED THAT THEY PLEASE THOROUGHLY DOCUMENT THE ISSUE SO THAT I CAN PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS OPEN INVESTIGATION AS NEEDED. FUEL LEAK COMING FROM CORRODED FUEL LINES AT THE BEND LOCATED AT THE DRIVERSIDE REAR OF CAR. THE HEAT TAPE AROUD THE FUEL LINES HOLDS MOISTURE AND SALT WHICH CORRODED THE LINE. FUEL LEAK OCCURS RIGHT BY THE EXHAUST PIPE. DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED HOW MUCH OF A FIRE HAZARD THIS WAS AND THAT IT SHOULD BE FIXXED IMMEDIATELY. FUEL LINES SHOULD BE MADE OF STAINLESS TO PREVENT CORROSION AND POSSIBLE FIRE FROM OCCURING.
THE GAS IS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL LINES. THEY ARE CORRODED. WHEN I EXIT THE CAR, THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED IN NORTH CAROLINA.
AFTER FILLING MY CAR UP ON 7/28/2020 MY CAR STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH STARTING WITHOUT HESITATION. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED AND QUICKLY REALIZED I WAS LOSING GAS. I ENDED UP LOSING MY TANK OF GAS AND HAD TO RETURN TO THE SHOP TO HAVE MY ENTIRE FUEL LINE REPLACED. I NOTICED THAT I WAS LEAKING SOMETHING WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND COULD SEE THE TRAIL OF GAS ON THE PAVEMENT. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE SHOP IT WAS SEVERELY LEAKING GAS NEAR THE REAR LEFT WHEEL WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN FRONT OF HIS RESIDENCE, AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE HE STARTED TO SMELL FUEL AND SAW FUEL LEAKING FROM THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL UNKNOWN DEALERS WERE CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

IN MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT, I RECENTLY NOTICED A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL WHEN GETTING OUT OF MY CAR AFTER A SHORT TRIP. YESTERDAY, AFTER I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE TO INSTALL A NEW CAR SEAT FOR MY ONE YEAR OLD SON, I NOTICED THE SMELL AGAIN AND NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS DRIPPING AT A PRETTY FAST PACE. AFTER INVESTIGATING, I NOTICED IT COMING FROM A SECTION OF RUSTED FUEL LINE NEAR REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. AFTER LOOKING FOR RECALLS AND SERVICE BULLETINS, I CALLED A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID THE LEAK WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN AND IT WOULD COST ABOUT $850 TO $950 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL LINES FROM ENGINE TO GAS TANK. I NOTICED HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR ISSUES DOCUMENTED ON VARIOUS AUTOMOTIVE WEB CHAT SITES DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE FOR COBALT'S FROM 2006 TO 2010. THERE IS WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN INSULATOR AROUND THE LINES TO PROTECT THEM FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE HEAT THAT ACCUMULATES ROAD SALT AND MOISTURE OVER TIME AND CORRODES THE FUEL LINE AT THAT SPECIFIC LOCATION. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS ISSUE PRESENTED A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION THAT COULD HAVE JEOPARDIZED THE LIVES AND SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN AS WELL AS MY WIFE'S AND MY LIVES. MY CAR IS NOW USELESS UNTIL I CAN SAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
