THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ROOF DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND FELL ONTO THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE HINGES WERE FAULTY AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET, THE CONTACT WAS ALSO MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V181000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
THE REMOVABLE CLEAR TOP OF MY 2003 CORVETTE HAS A CRACK BEGINNING AT THE RIGHT AND EXTENDING ABOUT 3 INCHES AND THE ENTIRE TOP LOOKS AS IF THE CLEAR MATERIAL IS DISINTEGRATING. THESE ARE CONDITIONS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY KNOWN DIRECT DAMAGE TO THE TOP. *TR
