AIR BAG LIGHT ON DASHBOARD COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
THE CYLINDER HEADS AT 69K MILES WERE CHECKED DUE TO EXCESSIVE VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND THE VALVE GUIDES AND ONE INTAKE VALVE WERE FOUND TO HAVE CLEARANCE MORE THAN DOUBLE THE SERVICE TOLERANCE. *TR
I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT EXCESSIVE VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND AFTER READING SEVERAL ACCOUNTS OF IMPROPERLY MACHINED HEADS BY GM'S SUPPLIER LINAMAR, AND THAT NUMEROUS VEHICLES HAVE HAD VALVES DROP, RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, AFTER HAVING BEEN REBUFFED BY CHEVROLET, I TOOK MY CAR WITH 36,000 MILES ON IT TO A CORVETTE SPECIALTY SHOP TO HAVE MY VALVE GUIDE CLEARANCE TESTED. I HAD SEVERAL EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE THE MAXIMUM SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, INDICATING THAT A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WAS IMMINENT. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED WITH PROPER RE-MACHINING OF THE HEADS TO MAKE THE VALVE GUIDES CONCENTRIC, NEW INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES INSTALLED, AS WELL AS NEW SEALS, VALVES, SPRINGS, ETC. 88% OF THE CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR CYLINDER HEADS TESTED FOR EXCESSIVE VALVE GUIDE WEAR, WERE OUT OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. GM IS VERY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS HUGE SAFETY RISK TO DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, AND NEARBY VEHICLES IF THE ENGINE FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS UNDERWAY ON PUBLIC ROADWAYS. *TR
I HAVE 2006 CHEVY CORVETTE WHAT A JOKE THIS CAR HAS BEEN. I HAVE HAD A NEW ENGINE I HAVE SPENT 40,000 ON REPAIRS TO THIS CAR ITS NEVER ENDING.I HAVE REPLACED EVERYTHING ON IT TWICE. I JUST GOT IT OUT OF THE SHOP YESTERDAY AGAIN FOR THE THOUSANDS TIME AND NOW THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT THE BRAKE LIGHT THE TIRE LIGHT ON THE DASH IS ON. THIS CAR IS A NIGHTMARE. I HAVE PAID SO MUCH MONEY TO NEVER ENDING DRAMA. HELP I BEG YOU. THE CAR HAS CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO THE CLUTCH FLUID LEAKING EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK HAS HAS BEEN REPLACED.TALK ABOUT A LEMON. NO LEMON LAW WILL HELP. *TR
CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. MANY OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID FAILS AND YOU CANNOT GET CAR INTO GEAR.
I HAD A FRIEND WHO HAD AN ENGINE FAILURE ON THIS SAME ENGINE DUE TO A FAILED EXHAUST VALVE. THE VALVE GUIDES WERE EXTREMELY WORN ON HIS CAR CAUSING THE VALVE FAILURE. DUE TO HIS FAILURE AND MANY OTHERS LIKE IT, I REMOVED MY HEADS AND INSPECTED. SURE ENOUGH, THEY WERE SIGNIFICANTLY BEYOND GENERAL MOTORS PUBLISHED TOLERANCES AND REQUIRED MACHINING TO REPAIR. THIS WAS AT SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME AND OUT OF POCKET. GM KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE AND REFUSES TO PARTICIPATE IN REPAIR COSTS FOR CARS OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT'S A DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY CONCERN. IF AND WHEN THE VALVE CATASTROPHICALLY FAILS, THE ENGINE WILL HAVE A COMPLETE SHUT DOWN, LARGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE OUT THE EXHAUST CLOUDING THE OTHER DRIVERS VISION, AND HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF LEAVING OIL SLICKS ON THE ROAD SURFACE. *TR
MY LOW BEAMS TURNED OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT MY LOW BEAMS SUDDENLY GO OUT LEAVING THE ROAD IN DARKNESS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I AM TOLD THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX IS DEFECTIVE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON MANY 2006 CORVETTES. GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS CORVETTE Z06 USED FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. THE ENGINE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VALVE GUIDES AND VALVES IN THE LS7 MOTOR FROM THE FACTORY. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE MOTOR FAILED. I WAS LUCKY TO BE ONLY A MILE FROM HOME WHEN IT FAILED AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO MY GARAGE. THE EXHAUST VALVE DROPPED AND DESTROYED THE #1 PISTON ALONG WITH THAT CYLINDER, AND THE ENGINE BLOCK. NOTHING IN THE MOTOR IS SALVAGEABLE AS IT BENT OR SENT METAL SHARDS INTO EVERY PART OF THE MOTOR. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET CHEVY TO HELP ME WITH THIS MOTOR, BUT THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL. THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT LIFT A FINGER TO HELP ANYONE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CORVETTE AT NIGHT AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF, I WAS SURPRISED AND CONFUSED BUT WAS ABLE TO TURN MY HIGH BEAMS ON, I PULLED OVER AND TESTED ALL THE LIGHTS, ONLY THE LOW BEAMS DID NOT WORK, FROM THERE I USED THE FOG LIGHTS INSTEAD OF THE HIGH BEAMS SO NOT TO BLIND OTHER DRIVERS AND GOT HOME. I LIVE IN A SUBURBAN AREA OF MY COUNTY WHERE THERE ISN'T MUCH STREET LIGHTING, WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT WAS VERY SCARY, LUCKILY I DIDN'T CRASH INTO ANYONE OR ANYTHING. THE NEXT NIGHT I TESTED THE LIGHTS AND THEY CAME ON FINE, BUT AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 20-25 MINUTES THEY SHUT OFF AGAIN, USED THE FOG LIGHTS SO I COULD SEE SOME OF THE ROAD, BUT VISIBILITY IS LOW. I WORK AT NIGHT SO NOW I JUST TURN THE FOG LIGHTS ON WHEN I START THE CAR SO WHEN THE LOW BEAMS TURN OFF I'LL HAVE SOME TYPE OF LIGHT. THE LOW BEAMS TURN OFF EVERY TIME I USE THE CAR, ABOUT 20-25 MINUTES INTO DRIVING THE CAR. THE ONLY NIGHT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WAS WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COOL, I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA BUT ONE NIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER, THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 59 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ABOUT 45 MINUTES WITHOUT THE LOW BEAMS TURNING OFF. I'VE READ SOME CASES THAT SAY THE LOW BEAMS TURN OFF BECAUSE OF SOMETHING IN THE FUSE BOX OVERHEATING, I'M ASSUMING THIS IS WHY THEY WORKED ON A COLD NIGHT. THANKS IN ADVANCE. *TR

MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON DASH FOR NO REASON. IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF PERIODICALLY FOR NO REASON. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO A YELLOW WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. ATTEMPTING TO TOGGLE BETWEEN THE AVAILABLE POSITIONS ON THE HEADLIGHT STALK WILL NOT CAUSE THE LIGHTS TO TURN ON. DASH INDICATES THAT LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT THEY ARE NOT. THIS IS UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED, BUT TERRIFYING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH. *TR
MY SITUATION IS UNIQUE, BUT IT HAPPENS HUNDREDS OF TIMES EVERY. IN NOV AND DEC OF 2013 AND IN JAN 2014 MY LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OUT PERIODICALLY AND I TOOK MY CAR TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM. AND I WAS NOT TOLD THERE HAD BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER CORVETTE OWNERS. WHY DO YOU THINK I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS? DID GM KEEP IT A SECRET FROM ALL THE DEALERS ALL OVER THE WORLD? WHEN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS ON ONE SINGLE ISSUE, IS THAT NOT SOMETHING THAT IS PASSED TO THE DEALERSHIPS AS SOMETHING TO BE AWARE OF, TO LOOK FOR, AS WELL AS A CLUE AS TO HOW TO FIND AND FIX THE PROBLEM? THE CHEVROLET DEALER IN JAN THEY SAID THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING MY ELECTRICAL BOX AT A COST OF JUST OVER $1,000.00. I DECLINED, THAT SHOTGUN APPROACH. THEY DID NOT FIND THE EXACT PROBLEM AS PER THEIR INVOICE. THEIR SHOTGUN FIX WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE ITS WAY TO BECOME A GM RECALL ISSUE. I WAS TOLD YESTERDAY BY THE GM DEALER THEY FOUND SOME WIRES THAT WAS CAUSING MY PROBLEM. WHEN THERE IS A RECALL & A GM CUSTOMER HAS THAT RECALL PROBLEM & IT'S A KNOWN POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THE RECALL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED, IT SEEMS THE PRUDENT, THE REASONABLE, THE COMMON SENSE, THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO SOLVE YET ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE RECALL IS FOR GM TO AUTHORIZE A FIX WHEN THE THE CUSTOMER IS IN THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SPECIFIC RECALL PROBLEM AS IN MY CASE YESTERDAY. THAT IS THE MOST COMMON SENSE SAFE AND COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO HANDLE A SITUATION LIKE MINE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT GM WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE A FIX RIGHT THEN (YESTERDAY) IT WOULD HAVE IN THE LONG RUN SAVED MONEY FOR EVERYONE AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COST AND SAFETY EFFECTIVE, IT'S A COMMON SENSE APPROACH THAT THE BEST MINDS AT GM OVERLOOKED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM STRONGLY APPLIED THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. THE APPLICATION OF BRAKE WAS SUDDEN AND VERY STRONG, NEARLY CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL. *TR
ONE EVENING I NOTICED MY LOW BEAM HEAD HEADLAMPS WERE NOT WORKING. FORTUNATELY, THE HIGH BEAMS AND FOG LIGHTS DID WORK. THE NEXT MORNING THE LIGHTS DID WORK UNTIL THE CAR WARMED UP. THAT EVENING, AGAIN I HAD NO LO BEAM HEADLAMPS. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OTHER CORVETTE OWNERS WERE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS PATTERN CONTINUED FOR ABOUT A WEEK UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE INTERNAL FUSE BLOCK HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THIS IS THE SECOND CORVETTE HE HAS RECENTLY SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM. MY INCIDENT DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, LOSING HEADLAMPS IS DANGEROUS AND IF OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, I HOPE CHEVROLET WILL ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DO NOT COME ON AND IF YOU ARE SOMEWHERE AFTER DARK, YOU ARE FORCED TO DRIVE WITH HIGH BEAMS ONLY WHICH IS DISTRACTING AND DANGEROUS TO OTHER DRIVERS. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP ARMED WITH INFORMATION ON THIS ISSUE WITH THE CORVETTE LOW BEAM LIGHTS AND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO THE NHTSA AND THE PROBLEM IS UNDER REVIEW. THIS CAR WAS CONVERTED TO A RACE CAR. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT ROAD ATLANTA BEFORE TURN 10A. THE ACTIVE HANDLING APPARENTLY CAUSED THE RIGHT BRAKES TO ENGAGE CAUSING A CLOCKWISE SNAP SPIN THAT RESULTED IN HITTING THE INSIDE CONCRETE RETAINING WALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AT THE NIGHT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED AND DECREASED THE CONTACTS VISION. THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE THE HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN ORDER TO REACH HIS DESTINATION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRES WERE CONNECTED TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WERE LOOSE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT WIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE FUSE BOX CAUSED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS TO MALFUNCTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUSE BOX. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
THE HEADLIGHTS OF THE CAR TURN OFF AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME. THE HIGH BEAM HAS NO ISSUE BUT THE LOW BEAM TURNS OFF. I HAVE TO NOT USE THE CAR FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER WHICH THE LOW BEAM STARTS WORKING AGAIN. THIS IS ON AND OFF AND I CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. MOST OF THE TIME IF THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IDLE THEY WORK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN THEY STOP WORKING. THE LIGHTS TURN BACK ON IF I STOP USING THE CAR FOR A FEW HOURS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN THE VEHICLE BE IN 1ST GEAR , IT MAKES A WEIRD NOISE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP,THEY REPLACED A SCREW ON THE REAR END BUT IT DID NO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAR ONLY HAS 16000 MILES ON IT NOW. I CALLED THE CAR MANUFACTURE SHE SAID IT WASNT NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IM AFRAID THE REAR END MIGHT FALL OFF.

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT AROUND 8:45 PM AND WHILE DRIVING THROUGH WINDY ROADS MY HEAD LIGHTS SIMULTANEOUSLY TURNED OFF WHICH CAUSED ME TO DRIVE STRAIGHT INTO A K-RAIL, BEING THAT THERE WERE NO STREET LIGHTS SO IT WAS PITCH BLACK OUT. *JB
A RECALL ON 2005/2006 CORVETTES FOR THE 'SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" EXISTS. MY CAR IS NOT LISTED ON THAT RECALL. MY CAR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR AND I HAVE NOTICED A DIFFERENCE. THE LIGHT FOR "SERVICE" OF THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM IS NOW ON ALL OF THE TIME.
SOME TIMES THE LOW BEAM COMES ON SOME TOMES IT DOESN'T JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN A MTH AGO. ALSO ACTIVE HANDLING STILL GIVES PROBLEM FROM PRIOR RECALL GOIN IN AGAIN. *TR
STARTED CAR ONE NIGHT BACK IN JULY AND NOTICED LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK, DROVE WITH HIGH BEAMS ON. OVER SEVERAL WEEKS NOTICED THEY ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO DEALER, ABOUT 12 HOURS OF DIAGNOSING, IT WAS DETERMINED IT WAS THE FUSE BOX AND THAT IT WAS LIKELY OVER HEATING. I PAID A TOTAL OF $886.83 (PARTS & LABOR) FOR REPAIR. *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY LOW BEAM DRIVING HEADLIGHTS WILL SIMPLY TURN OFF AND I WOULD HAVE TO RESORT TO THE HIGH BEAMS TO CONTINUE DRIVING. AT OTHER TIMES, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL WORK AND AFTER ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I WOULD TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND UPON MY RETURN THE LOW BEAM DRIVING HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON. THIS HAS BEEN A DAILY OCCURRENCE SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I READ IN ONE OF THE CAR MAGAZINES THAT THE NHTSA WAS IN THE PROCESS OF APPROVING A RECALL FOR THE INCIDENT SO I FELT IT WAS BEST TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE DATA BEING COLLECTED BY THE AGENCY. *TR
ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM APPEARED AND MY BRAKES FELT DIFFERENT. THE CAR IDLED DIFFERENTLY TOO. FELT LIKE IT WAS MISSING A CYLINDER. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND IS DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE ROOF BECAME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 09V491000 (STRUCTURE) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,678.
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY DRIVING LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING, COULD HAVE LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. I THEN TRIED MY HIGH BEAMS AND THOSE WORKED SO I CONTINUED DRIVING WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ONLY TO GET MY SELF HOME. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
LS7 ENGINE MAKES LOUD "TICKING" SOUND AT IDLE TO ~ 2,000 RPM CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEADS WHICH WERE IMPROPERLY MACHINED BY GM'S SUBCONTRACTOR. LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERS SAID THE NOISE IS "NORMAL"... BUT WHEN HEADS OPENED AND VALVE AND VALVE GUIDES MEASURED, EXCESSIVE VALVE AND VALVE GUIDE WEAR DOCUMENTED. LOCAL GM DEALER & $4,350 GM PROTECTION PLAN (EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I HAD TO BUY TO COVER THIS $5,000 REPAIR) REFUSED TO REPAIR SO I HAD TO DRIVE IT 5 HOURS TO ANOTHER GM DEALER TO GET IT REPAIRED UNDER MY GMPP EXTENDED WARRANTY. MANY OTHER 2006 TO 2015 CORVETTE OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME EXCESSIVE VALVE WEAR INCLUDING SOME OWNERS VALVES BREAKING AND DESTROYING THEIR $16,000 LS7 MOTORS WHILE SPEWING OIL AND METAL EVERYWHERE. THIS ALSO RESULTED IN A FEAR OF DRIVING THIS CAR, A SIGNIFICANT "DIMINISHMENT OF VALUE" OF THIS VEHICLE, AND COMPLICATED ITS RESALE (BUYERS HAD HEARD ABOUT THESE CATASTROPHIC LS7 MOTOR FAILURES.
MY SON WAS DRIVING AND JUST COMPLETED A TURN WHEN HE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE STOPPED ABRUPTLY. THERE WAS A CLOUD OF SMOKE AND THEN A SMALL FIRE UNDERNEATH THE CAR FROM THE OIL THAT CAME OUT FROM A BASEBALL SIZE HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK BELOW THE NUMBER 8 CYLINDER. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, A VALVE IN THE NUMBER 8 CYLINDER SNAPPED BELOW THE VALVE GUIDE DROPPING THE HEAD OF THE VALVE ONTO THE PISTON WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. I HAVE THE ENGINE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *TR
WHILE DRIVE STRAIGHT AND AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM ENGAGED CAUSING THE CAR TO VIOLENTLY VEER RIGHT. I FOUGHT FOR CONTROL FOR ABOUT 4 SECONDS UNTIL THE SYSTEM FINALLY DISENGAGED. HAD A MESSAGE OF SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE AND BOTH TIMES COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. THERE HAS BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE AND GM DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I BELIEVE IT IS TIME FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND SAVE OUR LIVES. IT WAS SUNDAY NIGHT AND AS I WAS DRIVING HOME A CAR FLASHED IT LIGHTS AT ME. I GOT HOME AND PUT THE CAR IN THE GARAGE. SHORTLY AFTER, I WENT TO LEAVE AGAIN AND NOTICED WHEN LEAVING, SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY, THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ON. I HAD THEM SET ON AUTOMATIC. I TRIED TO FORCE THEM TO COME ON AND THEY WOULD NOT COME ON. I ALREADY WAS TAKING MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP (LONE STAR CHEVROLET IN CYPRESS TEXAS) AND ADDED THIS TO MY LIST OF PROBLEMS ON MONDAY WHEN I TOOK IT IN. ON MONDAY WHEN I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING AGAIN. WHEN THEY WENT TO TEST THE CAR, THEY ONCE AGAIN HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS AND COULD NOT TURN THEM ON. WHEN THEY CALLED WITH THE REPAIR COSTS, THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE INTERMITTENT SWITCH ON THE LIGHTS. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS. THEY SAID OTHER THAN ON THAT INITIAL INSPECTION THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AGAIN SO IN GOOD FAITH THEY COULD NOT JUSTIFY THAT REPLACING THE SWITCH WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM SO THEY DID NOTHING TO THE CAR TO FIX THE LIGHT PROBLEM. THE EVENING I GOT THE CAR BACK, WEDNESDAY 5/15, THE LIGHTS ONCE AGAIN WOULD NOT WORK. THIS MORNING, THURSDAY 5/16 THEY WORKED AGAIN. I WAS SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM AND TO SEE WHAT THE FIX WAS, AND I NOTICED THAT THE NHTSB WAS RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM CURRENTLY. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE YOU WERE AWARE OF MY CAR AS WELL. I ALSO NOTICED THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ON THE CORVETTE FORUM ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL. THE CAR WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT WHILE WE WERE SHOPPING. WHEN WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR IT WAS DARK. I BEGAN TO MOVE AND REALIZED THAT THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ON. I COULD NOT TURN THEM ON MANUALLY, BOTH LOW AND HIGH BEAMS WOULD NOT TURN ON. THE ONLY HEADLIGHTS I COULD USE WERE HIGH BEAMS WHEN USING THE "FLASH TO PASS" BY PULLING THE LEFT HAND STALK TOWARD ME. I DROVE HOME IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH MY RUNNING LIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS ON AND USED MY FLASH TO PASS HIGH BEAMS WHEN I COULD NOT SEE FORWARD. THE NEXT MORNING THE LIGHTS OPERATED NORMALLY. *TR
ACCORDING TO CORVETTE FORUM, THIS IS ANOTHER WIDESPREAD PROBLEM- THE HARMONIC-BALANCER BECOMES WARPED AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT... IF NOT DONE TIMELY, OTHER "PARTS" COULD BE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED AS WELL... *TR
2006 Z06 CORVETTE ENGINE WAS MAKING AN UNUSUAL NOISE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH AND THE FINDING, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VALVETRAIN ON THE ENGINE MAY BE PENDING FAILURE. THE HEADS WERE REMOVED AND VALVE TRAIN TOLERANCE CHECKED TO BE FOUND WAY OUT OF SERVICEABLE LIMITS. THUS REQUIRING REPAIR. THIS WAS CONSIDERED EXCESSIVE WEAR FOR SUCH A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE THAT WAS PENDING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IF THE REPAIRS TO THE HEADS WAS NOT PERFORMED. IN DOING ADDITIONAL RESEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO BE QUITE COMMON FOR THE Z06'S 7.0L LS7 ENGINE. LUCKILY MY ENGINE DID NOT HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE BECAUSE I TOOK PREVENTATIVE MEASURES AT MY OWN COST, BUT THIS DESIGN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A FAILURE AND RECALLED. I WAS NOT GOING TO RISK A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE POSSIBLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND PUT MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WORED FINE. I WAS ABLE TO SWITCH TO HI BEAMS AND CONTINUE HOME. CAR WAS PURCHASED USED LESS THAN 1 MONTH AGO. SEARCH OF CORVETTE FORUMS ONLINE REVEALS THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM AND IS RELATED TO THE FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE HOOD. CHEVROLET KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE COST OF REPLACING THE FUSE BLOCK (APPROX. 600.00) SHOULD NOT BE BORNE BY THE CONSUMER DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE HEADLIGHT COVERS ARE CRAZING OVER WHICH IS MATERIALLY REDUCING THE LIGHT OUTPUT. 1. THE COVERS CANNOT BE POLISHED. NOT ONLY DOES THAT DESTROY THE OUTER COATING, THE CRAZING IS THROUGH-AND-THROUGH. 2. THE COVERS ARE GLUED ON AND CANNOT BE REPLACED BY ANY OFFICIAL MEANS, ALTHOUGH SOME INVENTIVE PEOPLE HAVE MANAGED TO SUCCEED (USUALLY AFTER MULTIPLE FAILED ATTEMPTS) BY STICKING THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY IN THEIR KITCHEN OVEN. HOWEVER, [SEE NEXT POINT] 3. THE COVERS THEMSELVES ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE. 4. THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES THEMSELVES, WHICH COST AROUND $1,000 PER SIDE, ARE SPECIFIC TO THE COLOR OF THE CAR, AND ARE NOW DISCONTINUED. IN OTHER WORDS, THERE IS NO LEGIT PATHWAY TO FIXING THIS PROBLEM. GM MADE A THROWAWAY HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY THAT COST A FORTUNE TO REPLACE WHEN IT WAS PRODUCED, AND NOW IT'S NOT AVAILABLE AT ALL. THIS IS NOT AN OLD CAR. THESE CARS WERE PRODUCED UNTIL 2013. THREE AND A HALF YEARS LATER, YOU CAN'T GET ESSENTIAL PARTS TO MAKE THE HEADLIGHTS SAFE. THOUSANDS OF C6 HEADLAMP COVERS ARE STARTING TO FAIL NOW. THE NHTSA DID A RECALL FOR THE LOW-BEAM WIRING MALFUNCTION ON THIS CAR. THIS IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN ITS EFFECT.
