TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH MAKING A WIDE RIGHT TURN, THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" WARNING INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND IMMEDIATELY THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL LOCKED. THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL TO THE LEFT; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT THEN TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TOWARDS THE LEFT IN ORDER TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER (STEERING: COLUMN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURE AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING COLUMN) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS MAY 2010. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FOLLOWING THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000. UPDATED 01/11/2011*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE PROBLEM INITIALLY HAPPENED, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO PULL VIOLENTLY AND THE REAR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME UNDRIVABLE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE METAL SEAT FRAME WAS SHATTERED INTO 3 PLACES. THE SEAT WOULD NOT RECLINE PROPERLY, AND AS I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO BE FIXED: THE SEAT WAS FLOATING LOOSELY IN THE CAR WHEN IT ARRIVED AT HIS SHOP. THE CORVETTE HAD ONLY 29,900 MILES ON IT, WAS NOT A DAILY DRIVER, AND HAD ONLY SEEN RECREATIONAL WEEKEND USE. THE CORVETTE WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, ALWAYS GARAGED, AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF. AS AN AEROSPACE ENGINEER, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE SEAT FRAME THAT LED TO THIS FAILURE. THE SEAT HAD ONLY SEEN 29,900 MILES OR LESS OF REGULAR, EVERY DAY USE BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THAT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE WERE HAIRLINE FRACTURES IN THE METAL SEAT FRAME BEFORE IT WAS INSTALLED IN MY CORVETTE AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT. FAILURES IN BOTH THE SUPPLIER'S MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND CHEVROLET'S QUALITY INSPECTION PROCESS OCCURRED IN THIS INSTANCE. HAD I BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A SEAT THAT WAS NOT SECURED TO THE CORVETTE, THE INJURIES I WOULD HAVE SUSTAINED WOULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET ABOUT THIS, AND BELIEVE THE COMPLAINT DID NOT RECEIVE THE ATTENTION THAT IT SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED. THERE WAS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FAILED PART, AND I WAS ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. AS A RESULT, I AM FILING A SEPARATE COMPLAINT WITH THE GOVERNMENT SO THEY CAN PROVIDE THE PROPER OVERSIGHT IN THIS MATTER. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE, AND I WAS CHARGED BECAUSE THE REPAIRS WERE DEEMED BY CHEVROLET TO BE OUT OF BOTH THE 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY DUE TO TIME (THE CORVETTE WAS 4 YEARS OLD), AND THE AND THE EXTENDED (GMPP) 5 YEAR/60,0000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER NO DEDUCTIBLE WARRANTY THAT I HAD PURCHASED FOR $1700 DUE TO THE FACT THAT, AS CHEVROLET SAID, BEING "NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY" I HAD PURCHASED FOR EXTRA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE WITH THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHICH WAS A RESULT OF NHTSA RECALL 10V172000, STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE FAILURE SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE BEGAN TO OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I DRIVE A 2006 CHEVY CORVETTE. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF A GAS STATION WHEN I APPLIED SOME EXTRA GAS, GIVING THE CAR SOME UNWANTED ACCELERATION AS I TURNED. THE "ACTIVE HANDLING" SIGN LIT UP AND THE CAR BUCKED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, AND BACK AGAIN. THANKFULLY I WAS ON A WIDE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP WITHOUT INJURY TO MYSELF OR OTHERS (OR THE CAR). AFTERWARDS, A MESSAGE POPPED UP READING "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" AND DID NOT GO AWAY UNTIL I HAD SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR A WHILE. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE, BUT IT DID WORRY ME ENOUGH TO SHARE THE STORY HERE. HOPE IT HELPS. *TR

2006 CORVETTE COUPE- FRONT LEFT TIRE LOCKED UP @ 35 MPH. THE RECALL CLIP HAD ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE TECH AT THE LOCAL GM DEALER CALLED GM.AND WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN 10,000 MILES. THE DEALER INSTALLED AN UNKNOWN CLIP IN THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR TO MAINTAIN ITS STABILITY. THE CONTACT ALSO INQUIRED ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING COLUMN) AND THE DEALER ADVISED THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. THE DEALER WAS ADVISED THAT THE WIRE CONNECTOR AND NOT THE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE DEALER TO BE MISLEADING AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
EA09-002 MY CAR SUDDENLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT AND BRAKES REALLY HARD SOMETIMES DURING NORMAL DRIVING, AND A SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT COMES ON. VERY DANGEROUS!! AFTER RESTARTING EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE UNTIL OUT OF THE BLUE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CORVETTE AND THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON MY DIC. WHEN THIS MESSAGE IS DIPLAYED IT ALSO TURNS OFF MY TRACTION CONTROL. THIS MESSAGE DISPLAYS ABOUT ONCE EVERY THREE TIMES I DRIVE THE CAR. I HAVE ABOUT 28K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOTICED THE MESSAGE SINCE ABOUT 22K. THE MESSAGE WOULD GO OFF SO I DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT. NOW THAT I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH, I CAN TELL THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT I HAVE A LITE CLICKING NOISE IN THE REAR WHEN I 'M DRIVING SLOW. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS RELATED TO THIS "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" ISSUE THAT EVERYONE IS EXPERIENCING. AND AFTER DOING RESEARCH I'M ONE OF THE LUCKY ONE THAT HAVE NOT FELT THE REPERCUSIONS OF THIS DEFECT. I REFER TO REPERCUSSIONS AS WRECKING MY VEHICLE, HURTING SOMEONE ELSE, OR HURTING MYSELF. BASED ON THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROBLEM GM SHOULD CONDUCT A RECALL OF THE CORVETTES THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. I OWN A 2006 CORVETTE C6 AS DESCRIBED IN CHEVROLET'S RECALL NOTICE ON "DEFECTIVE REMOVABLE TOPS. I AM EXPERIENCING THE DESCRIBED PROBLEMS WITH THE REMOVABLE TOP AND MY VIN NUMBER IS IN THE RANGE CHEVROLET HAS DEFINED. I HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET AND THEY STATED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER TO DETERMINE IF I HAD THE SPECIFIED RECALL DEFECT. IF THEY DETERMINED IT WAS NOT WITHIN THE RECALL CRITERIA I WOULD BE BILLED BY THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO DETERMINE IF AN IDENTIFIED PROBLEM, IN THE VIN NUMBER RANGE SPECIFIED IS DANGEROUS OR NOT. IT IS NOT DANGEROUS TO ME BUT COULD DEFINITELY AFFECT ANY VEHICLES BEHIND ME IF THE ROOF FAILS. THIS IS A RECOGNIZED PROBLEM BUT CHEVY SEEMS TO SAY "LET IT FAIL, THEN WE WILL HANDLE IT". MY TOP CREAKS, STARTED ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO AND HAS RECENTLY DEVELOPED A WIND NOISE IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE. THESE ARE SYMPTOMS/PRECURSORS TO FAILURE AS STATED IN THE RECALL. *TR
MY SON OWNS A 2006 CORVETTE C6. HE WAS DRIVING FOR 2 YEARS WHEN HIS CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND SUFFERED A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, IN A COMA FOR 6 MONTHS. HIS CAR HAD A "SERVICE TRACTION STABILITY CONTROL" INDICATION ON THE DIC TWICE WITHIN A 30 DAY PERIOD. HE WAS QUICK TO SERVICE THIS WARNING IMMEDIATELY WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AS THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE TRACTION STABILITY CONTROL FOR 2006 CORVETTE AND GM HAS NOW ISSUED A RECALL. TO LATE MY SON HAS BRAIN DAMAGE. *TR

2006 CORVETTE ROOF PANEL SEPARATION. ON 10-30-09 WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE ROOF PANEL SEPARATED FROM THE ROOF PANEL FRAME. THE ROOF PANEL WAS DAMAGED WHEN IT CONTACTED THE ROADWAY SURFACE, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO OTHER PROPERTY. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVY CORVETTE. I FIRST GOT THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT WHEN I BOUGHT MY CAR USED AT 31K MI. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE BY PUTTING THE PLASTIC CLIP IN THE SWPS PLUG, AS LISTED IN THE TSB. APPROX 10 MONTHS LATER THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING CAME BACK ON. IT COMES ON SOMETIMES AND NOT OTHERS. FORTUNATELY NONE OF MY WHEELS HAVE LOCKED UP BUT I AM WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY. OF COURSE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY( 900 MILES OUT) AND I HAVE TO PAY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ON MY OWN DOLLAR AND WORRY THAT THE WHEELS COULD LOCK UP. *TR

I WAS PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ONTO A MAIN ROAD MAKING A LEFT TURN. SUDDENLY MY FRONT BRAKES GRABBED WITH FULL FORCE AND STOPPED THE CAR. THE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT CAME ON. I STEPPED ON THE GAS HARD AND OVER POWERED THE BRAKES TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT WENT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY AGAIN. IT WAS RAINING AND ABOUT 60 DEGREES AT THE TIME. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE YEAR I HAVE OWNED IT. I SAW A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR MANY 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTES AND DECIDED TO SEND THIS LETTER ABOUT IT. I NEVER BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS A TEMPORARY MALFUNCTION. *TR
MY FIBERGLASS ROOF (FIXED) ON MY 2006 Z06 FLEW OFF ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 60 MPH IN THE #4 (FAST) LANE. I HAD JUST TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IF LOOKED AT AND THEY ORDERED ME A NEW ONE. WHILE WAITING, I HAD STRONG TAPE ACROSS THE FRONT SO NO AIR WOULD GET IN. AS I WAS DRIVING TODAY, I HEARD SOME WIND NOISE AND AS I SLOWED DOWN,IT COME OFF. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND I SAW THE TOP ABOUT 20 FEET IN THE AIR AND 50 YARDS BEHIND ME!!! I BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, I HAD TO GO TO 2 DEALERS AND GM THEMSELVES BEFORE I GOT HELP. IT IS A MIRACLE NO ONE WAS KILLED OR INJURED, LET ALONE NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED. THIS HAPPENED IN WOODLAND HILL, CA WHILE TRAVELING N ON THE 101 FREEWAY. ON THE WAY HOME, I SAW WHAT REMAINS OF THE TOP IN THE S 101 FAST LANE!!! IT WENT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS TOP HAD ALREADY BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS BY THE PREVIOUS OWN UNDER A RECALL. 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 LOSS OF CONTROL DUE TO RIGHT BRAKE LOCK UP AFTER "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" APPEARING IN DISPLAY. BACK IN 2007 I TOOK MY 2006 CORVETTE IN TO HAVE IT SERVICED BECAUSE I HAD A MESSAGE COME UP THAT SAID TO SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM. THERE ENDED UP BEING A RECALL ON THIS AND IT WAS FIXED. THIS LASTED FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND THE MESSAGE CAME UP AGAIN, I WENT BY THE DEALER WHO DID THE WORK AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME FOR FIXING IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN OVER A YEAR. MY QUESTION IS; HAS CHEVROLET GOT A FIX FOR THIS OR JUST A BANDAID? I HAVE READ THAT THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
HI, THERE IS A KNOWN NHTSA BULLITEN ON 05-06 CORVETTES WITH ROOF DELAMINATION, WELL, MY 2006 DELAMINATED TODAY BUT I FOUND THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT FLEW OFF. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID MY VIN WAS OUTSIDE THE RECALL BY ~500 UNITS. I THINK THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED AS MY PROBLEM IS EXACTLY WHAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN 06V181000 IS DISCUSSING AND COVERING. *TR
ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO MY 2006 CORVETTE'S DIC SAID PLEASE SERVICE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF INDICATION LIGHT CAME ON. LATER THAT DAY I WENT TO TAKE THE CAR TO BE SERVICED. ON THE WAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT THE OTHER LIGHTS HAD GONE AWAY. AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PLUGGED UP TO A COMPUTER I WAS TOLD IT SAID THERE WAS A LEAK FROM THE GAS CAP, WHICH DOESN'T CLOSE PROPERLY AT TIMES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE COMPUTER SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND JUST TO WATCH IT AND COME BACK ANOTHER TIME IF I KEPT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE WARNING MESSAGE OR LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON AGAIN FOR ABOUT 4-5 WEEKS. WHEN IT DID I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND AFTER HITTING A BUMP THE LIGHT AND WARNING CAME ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TURN OFF AND RESTARTED IT WOULD GO AWAY. I HAD NOT BEEN DRIVING IT OFTEN BECAUSE I HAD ANOTHER CAR. THE PAST WEEK I HAD TO DRIVE IT EVERY DAY TO WORK DUE TO IT NOW BEING MY ONLY CAR. THE LIGHT AND WARNING NOW COMES ON ALMOST EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN. THE CAR IS TELLING ME THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS OFF, BUT WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT SOMETIMES PULLS THE CAR TO THE LEFT WITHOUT ME MOVING THE WHEEL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE BREAK MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND IF YOU PLACE YOUR FOOT ON TOP OF THE BREAK IT FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS BEING PUMPING UP AND DOWN. TWO TIMES NOW WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE TO WORK THE CAR HAS PULLED ITSELF OFF THE ROAD CAUSING ME TO ALMOST WRECK AND CAUSING OTHERS WRECK BEHIND ME. I HAVE SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR TOMORROW 11/17/2009 BEFORE GOING TO WORK BUT WAS TOLD THEY ARE UNSURE (EVEN THOUGH THIS IS MAJOR AND I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY) IF THEY WILL HAVE A RENTAL CAR SO I CAN GO TO WORK. IF THEY DON'T I WILL BE FORCE TO DRIVE MY CAR UNTIL THEY DO AND I CAN GET OFF WORK. I CAN'T LOSE MY PROFESSIONAL JOB OVER TRANSPORTATION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MESSAGE AND HAVE FOUND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY GM COVERING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE RESEATED THE CONNECTOR ON THE STEERING COLUMN OUTLINED BY THE TSB ELIMINATING THE DIC MESSAGE FOR A FEW MONTHS WHEN THE MESSAGE THEN RETURNS. WHILE THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT RESULTED IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DO SO. 2006 CORVETTE HAD THE ROOF RECALL (REF. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# 06V181000) DONE ON 6/7/07. I RETURNED VEHICLE FOR RECHECK OF RECALL ON 11/1/07 AS THE ROOF DID HAVE SOME NOTICEABLE CREAK NOISES. THE DEALER REPORTED THE ROOF WAS NOT LOOSE AND LUBRICATED THE WEATHER STRIPS. ON 6/12/09, GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY WIFE NOTICED WIND NOISE AND THEN SUDDENLY THE ROOF PANEL FLEW OFF AND OVER A PICK UP TRUCK THAT WAS FOLLOWING HER. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED ONE OF THE BOLTS THAT HOLDS THE ROOF IN PLACE WAS SEIZED UP AND THE HARDWARE USED TO PERFORM THE ROOF RECALL WAS NOT THE CORRECT HARDWARE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE WRITER STATED THAT THE ROOF WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS ALL HARDWARE AND POSSIBLY THE HEADLINER, BUT THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT SINCE THE RECALL WAS ALREADY COMPLETED. WHEN I CONTACTED GM, THEY STATED THAT SINCE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED, I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX IT. I OWN A 2006 CORVETTE MANUFACTURED IN FEBRUARY OF 2006. FROM EARLY 2009 (JUST PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE GOING OUT OF WARRANTY) I BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM (SAHS) WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. INITIALLY THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A TURN OR WHEN IT HIT A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE WARNING WOULD CLEAR ITSELF PERIODICALLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO TWO SEPARATE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS (GROTH BROS. CHEVROLET, LIVERMORE, CA AND DUBLIN CHEVROLET CADILLAC, DUBLIN, CA). NEITHER FACILITY WAS ABLE TO DEFINITIVELY DIAGNOSE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. DUBLIN CHEVROLET CADILLAC DID PERFORM THE RECALL SERVICE IN WHICH THEY ADDED A RETENTION CLIP TO THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE TILT/TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN. THEY PERFORMED THIS REPAIR AT MY INSISTENCE AND AT A COST TO ME BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED THE MONTH AFTER THE LAST MANUFACTURING MONTH OF THE RECALL. THE ADDITION OF THE RETENTION CLIP REMEDIED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY BUT IT DID RETURN. THE SAHS WARNING NOW COMES ON AND STAYS ON NEARLY ALL THE TIME. I HAVE SIGNIFICANT CONCERNS OVER THE FACT THAT GM HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DEFINITIVELY DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM ESPECIALLY NOW THAT I HAVE LEARNED THAT MANY OWNERS OF 2005/2006 CORVETTES HAVE HAD A RELATED ISSUE WITH THE FRONT BRAKES LOCKING UP. I HAVE A 2006 CORVETTE Z06 WITH 10,000 MILES AND HAVE EXPERIENCED A NUMBER OF STABILITY CONTROL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. IN 2009 I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM MY LOCAL DEALER WITH ONLY 6,000 MILES AFTER COMPLETING THE LAST SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY. I ENTERED A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND PROCEEDED INTO THE LEFT LANE. I ACCELERATED TO PASS A LARGE TRUCK AND THE CAR BEGAN TO THRASH BACK AND FORTH OUT OF CONTROL LIKE I WAS ON ICE. I LIFTED IMMEDIATELY AND ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND AND SENT THE FRONT END OF THE CAR CRASHING INTO THE CONCRETE MEDIAN. NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THE DAMAGE WAS EXTENSIVE. I WAS CONVINCED IT WAS THE RUN FLAT TIRES SO I HAD ALL FOUR REPLACED WITH NITTO HIGH PERFORMANCE RADIALS. THE STICKIER COMPOUND MADE A DIFFERENCE IN TRACTION HOWEVER I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. MY SON AND I WERE CRUISING AROUND TOWN AND I PULLED OVER TO SWITCH DRIVERS. MY SON EXITED THE PARKING LOT AND HIT THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR BEGAN TO THRASH BACK AND FORTH OUT OF CONTROL. HE TOO WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR WITH CORRECTIVE STEERING AND BRAKING. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND OR A CONCRETE MEDIAN TO SMASH INTO. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. WE NOW DRIVE WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OFF AS WE ARE CONVINCED THAT THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM IS SEVERELY FLAWED AND THE CAR IS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS AT ANY SPEED. NOW THE DISPLAY FLASHES AN ALERT THAT THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM NEEDS SERVICING. I HAVE READ A NUMBER OF SIMILAR CASES WHERE THE DRIVER HAS LOST CONTROL OF THEIR CAR AND SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE PERSONAL INJURY AND DAMAGE TO THEIR CAR. I'VE HAD SEVERAL "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" REPAIRS DONE BY AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALERS AND IT STILL COMES BACK LIKE A BAD CASE OF HERPES. MY Z06 IS A 2LZ WHICH HAS THE TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR MY LANKY 190 LB 6'3" BODY TO GET IN AND OUT EASIER WHEN I HAVE TO PARK IN MY TIGHT GARAGE OR NEXT TO A PARKED CAR. THIS CYCLES THE STEERING WHEEL FORWARD EVERY TIME I EXIT THE CAR AND BACK TOWARDS ME AGAIN BEFORE I START THE ENGINE... WHICH FROM MY READING SEEMS TO BE CAUSING THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. WHAT'S WRONG IS THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY PROBLEM DOESN'T SEEM TO EVER GET FIXED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET GM TO FIX IT OR WARRANTY THIS SAFETY RELATED ITEM PERMANENTLY SO I DON'T GET STUCK HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY CONDITION FOREVER? YES GM COMPLETED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON MY Z06 TO INSTALL A CHEAP PLASTIC RETAINER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM... TO NO AVAIL. NHTSA HAS INCORRECTLY CLOSED YOUR NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA09002 OF THIS ISSUE BASED ON GM'S RECALL... BUT GM DID NOT INCLUDE MY 2006 CORVETTE Z06 IN THEIR RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT USES THE EXACT SAME TELESCOPIN STEERING WHEEL AND ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM AS THE "BASE" CORVETTE WHICH IS INCLUDED IN GM'S RECALL. NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE GM TO INCLUDE THE Z06 IN THEIR RECALL... OR ALL OF US Z06 OWNERS WHO BOUGHT GM'S MOST EXPENSIVE CAR IN 2006 ARE SCREWED BECAUSE OF NHTSA'S OMISSION OF THE Z06 FROM THIS SAFETY RECALL! *TR
