I HAD SEPARATION ON MY ORIGINAL TOP AND RECEIVED THE "FIX" AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL MEMO BY GM, HOWEVER, THE NEW TOP WITH THE "FIX" IS SEPARATING ALSO. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG BEFORE GM STOPS TRYING TO PATCH THE PROBLEM. THEY NEED TO MAKE THE TOP ONE PIECE. *JB
2006 CHEVY CONVERTIBLE CORVETTE (MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO MYSELF) HAS FAILED TO CRANK ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FROM MAY 06 THROUGH OCT 06. THE FIRST AND SECOND TIME WITHIN A MONTH. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO CLOSET DEALERSHIP ON EACH OCCASION. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE IN GOING OUT OF TOWN - DON'T TRUST VEHICLE NOT TO CRANK. *JB
ROOF PANEL SEPARATED ON 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. VEHICLE HAS 1800 MILES, DAMAGE OCCURRED AT 1650 MILES. PANEL IS LOOSE FROM FRAME 80% AROUND. IF THIS PANEL HAD COME OFF IN TRAFFIC IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS DAMAGE TO OTHERS. GM IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *JB
I OWN A NEW 2006 CORVETTE, VIN [XXX], PURCHASED FROM MAROONE CHEVROLET, PEMBROKE PINES. THE PAINTED (SILVER) ROOF PANEL BEGAN TO SEPARATE LAST WEEK WITH NO WARNING. THERE WERE NO POPPING, CREAKING OR OTHER SOUNDS. THE ONLY INDICATION OF THE IMPENDING SEPARATION WAS INCREASED WIND NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE NOISE BEGAN ONE DAY WHILE AT 70 MPH, AND WOULD STOP IF SPEED WAS REDUCED TO 60 MPH. BY THE TIME I ARRIVED HOME FROM MY 30-MINUTE DRIVE, HOWEVER, SPEEDS OF 55-60 MPH WERE CAUSING THE NOISE, AND OBVIOUS CONTINUED SEPARATION. I MUST USE MY CAR, AND FROM AN ONLINE FORUM, CORVETTEFORUM, I KNEW THAT THOSE TAKING CARS FOR REPAIR BY GM DEALERS ARE WAITING UP TO SEVERAL WEEKS FOR THE REPAIR, WITH NO CAR, SO I PURCHASED A $1600 CLEAR REPLACEMENT PANEL FROM MY OWN FUNDS TO USE FOR NOW. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AND EXTENDS FAR BEYOND THE VEHICLES CHEVROLET WILL ADMIT ARE AFFECTED. IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT SOMEONE WILL EVENTUALLY BE SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR IF THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE RIGHT THERE COULD EVEN BE DEATH AS AN IMMEDIATE OR SECONDARY RESULT OF ROOF SEPARATION WHILE AT SPEED. WE OWNERS DESERVE A PROMPT AND EFFECTIVE FIX. THE ATTEMPT BY GM AT FILLING THE VOIDS WITH FOAM GLUE CLEARLY DOES NOT WORK, AS SEEN FROM THOSE RETURNING THE REWORKED TOPS HAVING SUBSEQUENT FAILURE. I DON'T KNOW IF PRESCRIBING A SPECIFIC REMEDY IS WITHIN YOUR JURISDICTION, BUT SINCE GM HAS TRANSPARENT PANELS, AND THOSE ARE NOT SEPARATING, OWNERS SHOULD RECEIVE THESE IN THE INTERIM. THOSE OF US WHO PURCHASED THEM ON OUR OWN DUE TO THE DEFECT IN OUR ORIGINAL TOP SHOULD BE REIMBURSED AS WELL, TO ENCOURAGE PROMPT AND COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF ALL AFFECTED PARTS FROM USE ON THE PUBLIC ROADWAYS. *NM UPDATED 07/16/2012 *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE, AND STATED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WERE RETRACTING WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES. ON ONE OCCASION, THE SEAT BELTS RETRACTED UNTIL THE SHOULDER PART OF THE BELT WAS ON THE CONTACT'S NECK AND HE FELT AS IF HE WAS BEING CHOKED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT BELTS, AND ADDED A SEAT BELT EXTENDER, BUT THE DRIVER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500. *AK UPDATED 05/21/07. *JB
OWNED 2006 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE 3/15/06, HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER SERVICE SHOP FOR TOTAL OF 26 DAYS FOR SAME REASON EVERY TWO DAYS SYSTEM GOES DEAD. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT MODERATE SPEED, ROOF PANEL SEPARATED AND FLEW OFF. ROOF PANEL DAMAGED. FORTUNATELY, IT (BARELY) MISSED MISSED HITTING THE CAR BEHIND ME. PANEL HAD SEPARATED FROM FRAME (ROOF FRAME IS REMOVABLE BUT THE FRAME ITSELF REMAINED PROPERLY ATTACHED TO VEHICLE). VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT DEALER WHO HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE ROOF. WHEN VEHICLE BROUGHT IN, I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE SECOND 2006 CORVETTE COUPE SEEN WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT WEEK! *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR AXEL FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 26, 2005 AT 357 MILES. WHILE DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE THE REAR AXEL FRACTURED. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS ON DECEMBER 13, 2005 AT 1,305 MILES. THE THIRD WAS ON JANUARY 11, 2006 AT 2,316 MILES. AFTER EACH FAILURE THE REAR AXEL WAS REPLACED BY A DEALERSHIP AND THE PART NUMBER OF THE REPLACEMENT AXEL WAS DIFFERENT. THE CONTACT FELT THE CHANGE OF PART NUMBERS COULD HAVE REFLECTED A DIFFERENT AXEL MANUFACTURER. WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH ON MARCH 7, 2006 THE REAR AXEL BROKE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE IS AWAITING REPAIRS AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HIT A SMALL POT HOLE. THE ALLOY RIM OF MY NEW C6 CORVETTE SPLIT IN HALF AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE CAUSING PARTIAL LOSS OF CONTROL IN TRAFFIC. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 MPH. IT APPEARS THE WHEEL INDUCTION WELDING IS FLAWED. I FEAR OTHER WHEELS HAVE THE SAME FLAW. AT SPEED, THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF A FATAL ACCIDENT. I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEER AND IT APPEARS FLAWED TO ME. I HAVE THE WHEEL IN MY POSITION AND I HAVE PICTURES I CAN EMAIL.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY LOST POWER STEERING, AND IT VEERED TO RIGHT ON ONE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE GAVE NO PRIOR WARNING, AND COULD DRIVE WELL UNTIL THE SAFETY LIGHT ILLUMINATED GIVING A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. THE VEHICLE IS PART OF A BBB LEMON LAW CLAIM. UPDATED 06/07/2006. *AK *TS
2006 CORVETTE ROOF DELAMINATION AND DETACHMENT WHICH COULD LEAD TO INJURY TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEAR PROXIMITY TO VEHICLE WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN - DETACHMENT HASN'T OCCURRED YET HOWEVER IN MY OPINION POSES A SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. *NM
