I FEEL VERY STRONG VIBRATIONS AND GRINDING IN THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES BECOME VERY STIFF AND PUSH UP AGAINST ME WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE. IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO THIS UNTIL THE ABS AND TC LIGHTS TURN ON THEN IT RUNS OK. THE MECHANICS FOUND A SPEED SENSOR ERROR WHEN RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS AND REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING. A DAY OR SO LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THEY DID THE ENTIRE REPAIR AGAIN JUST IN CASE THEY HAD DEFECTIVE PARTS WITH THE SAME RESULT. THEY TRIED BLEEDING THE LINES AND SEARCHING FOR BAD WIRES, ETC UNTIL THEY RAN OUT OF IDEAS. I SPENT THE BETTER PART OF A MONTH WITH MY 05 EQUINOX IN THE SHOP AND SIGNIFICANT FUNDS ON REPAIRS AND THE ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT I AM NOW FORCED TO GET RID OF THE VEHICLE. MY KEYS ALSO BEGAN GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION UNTIL THE ENTIRE THING HAD TO BE DISASSEMBLED AND IGNITION SWITCH SYSTEM REPLACED. I HAVE SINCE BEEN RESEARCHING THESE PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY THE ABS ISSUE AND HAVE LEARNED THAT I AM SURPRISINGLY ONE OF MANY WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW CHEVROLET CAN GET AWAY WITH SUCH A DEFECT WITHOUT ISSUING A RECALL. *TR
MY 2005 EQUINOX IS LEAKING WATER INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. I GET A LOT OF WATER COLLECTED IN THE SPARE TIRE AREA AND A LOT OF WATER IN THE REAR FLOORBOARDS. SINCE MY DRIVEWAY IS ON AN INCLINE IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING IN AT. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED THE WATER DRIPS OUT OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS WHEN I BRAKE. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND THEY BOTH HAVE RULED OUT A SUNROOF DRAINAGE ISSUE SINCE THE AREA IS CLEAR. I HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM I AM HAVING, AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT STEPS TO TAKE AT THIS POINT SINCE IT IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND NOT WEAR AND TEAR. WITH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL SINCE THE ISSUE IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE? *TR
TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER USED TO GO OVER 50% MARK, AND WAS ALWAYS WELL UNDER AND NEVER MOVED. ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO, THE VEHICLE TEMPERATURE GAUGE STARTED TO CLIMB AFTER HIGHWAY DRIVING, THEN IDLING. RECENTLY, THE TEMPERATURE LIGHT CAME ON. I EXPERIENCED A COOLANT ODOR AND THE VEHICLE HAD A ROUGH IDLE ON COLD START. DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS BAD HEAD GASKETS. DEALER MACHINED HEADS, REPLACED GASKETS, REPLACED PLUGS AND FLUSHED/FILLED COOLANT SYSTEM, ALL FOR $2450. READING SOME OF THE WEBSITES, IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A VERY HIGH AMOUNT COMPARED TO WHAT SOME OTHER PEOPLE ARE PAYING AT THEIR DEALERSHIPS. READING INFORMATION PROVIDED ON MYCARSTATS.COM AND MANY OTHER FORUMS/NEWS GROUPS, THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME HEAD GASKET ISSUE WITH THE '05 EQUINOX. IT SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE RED DEXCOOL COOLANT THAT EATS AWAY AT THE HOSES AND HEAD GASKETS, CAUSING GASKET FAILURE, AS WELL AS HEATER CORE FAILURE. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME RECOURSE TO RECUPERATE MONEY FOR THIS PROBLEM. HEAD GASKETS DON'T TYPICALLY FAIL IN MOST CARS. *TR
VEHICLE DEVELOPED A SHUTTER WHEN STOPPING AND ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP. TOOK THE CAR TO ASE CERTIFIED REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY REPLACED THE WHEEL HUB AND SPEED SENSOR. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT FINALLY FIXED IT WAS REPLACING THE JUMPER HARNESS #15773652. I SPENT OVER $700 ON THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE MECHANICS DID NOT EVEN KNOW TO LOOK FOR THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT A BULLETIN ISSUED BY GM ON THIS. THE HARNESS AND INSTALL IS ONLY A $68 FIX AND I HAVE HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS IN OVER A YEAR. I HAVE READ ENOUGH REPORTS ON THE INTERNET TO KNOW THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 EQUINOX. *TR
I WAS ON THE FREEWAY MERGING INTO THE SLOW LANE WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWED SO I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ALL I HEARD WAS GRINDING CLUNKING NO BRAKES SUDDENLY MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD BRAKES. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 5 DIFFERENT PLACES, SPENT 300 + DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE SENSORS, 700+ DOLLARS TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKES AND SYSTEMS (THE GUY FELT BAD BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG BUT HE HIMSELF ALMOST HIT THE WALL BECAUSE NO BRAKES) CLEARLY SOMETHING IS WRONG OVER 2 YEARS I HAVE SPENT OVER 2 THOUSAND DOLLARS BUT STILL THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON HERE AND THE DEALERS RESPONSE TO ME "BRING IT IN AND FOR $105 WE WILL HOOK IT UP AND SEE WHAT'S WRONG" SO WHAT I SPEND ANOTHER THOUSAND WITH THE DEALER AND NO SOLUTION. IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING THE MODELS ON HERE HAVE IN COMMON. WHY HASN'T ANYBODY LOOKED INTO THIS. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE BEING KILLED AND CHANNEL 7 LOOKING INTO THIS BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? LAST NIGHT MY HUSBAND ALMOST WENT INTO AN INTERSECTION BECAUSE HE COULDN'T STOP. I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW CAR IF I COULD I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN RID OF IT IN 2011. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARINGS STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BEARINGS IN THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED AN ADDITIONAL THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
KEY SOMETIMES WON'T TURN, KEY CAN BE PULLED OUT OF IGNITION WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IGNITION WILL CHEW UP OR EAT THE KEY. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX IN MARCH WITH LESS THAN 38,000 MILES. THE AC NEVER REALLY GOT COLD. I CALLED GM AS WELL AS LOOKING @ BLOGS ON THE INTERNET. IT SEEMED LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM. THEY ONLY USED THIS COMPRESSOR FOR ONE YEAR IN ANY VEHICLE. I WROTE A NICE LITTLE LETTER EXPLAINING THAT MY 2005 EQUINOX WITH NOT QUIT 43,000 MILES ON IT HAD A AC COMPRESSOR PROBLEM. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS CAR AND IT WAS EXPLAINED THIS WAY FROM THE START. I RECEIVED A VERY NICE CALL FROM AN [XXX]@ GM, HER NUMBER IS 1-866-790-5600 X32738. I WENT THROUGH MY PROBLEM VERY CAREFULLY AND EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS DIAGNOSED FROM A TRUSTED MECHANIC. SHE UNDERSTOOD BUT TOLD ME IT HAD TO BE LOOKED AT BY A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. I CONTINUED TO LET HER KNOW I PAID FOR THIS DIAGNOSIS ONCE AND REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO PAY OVER AGAIN. I CALLED BACK A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD BE WORTH MY TIME AND MONEY. I WAS PRETTY MUCH ASSURED THAT IF IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT GM WOULD HELP OUT SO I STARTED TO CALL THE LOCAL DEALERS. I STARTED @ 7:30AM THIS MORNING, I CALLED [XXX] OF CAPE CORAL, FL, THE VICTORY LAYNE IN FORT MYERS AND THEN PALM AUTO MALL IN PUNTA GORDA. ALL SERVICE MANAGERS WHERE BUSY SO I WENT TO [XXX] @ 8AM TO FIND THAT [XXX] WAS ON VACATION AND NO ONE COULD HELP ME. I DID GET A CALL BACK FROM A BOB PILGRIM FROM PALM AUTO MALL IN PUNTA GORDA AND SAID HE WOULD SEE ME AT 1PM. PALM AUTO MALL IS ALMOST AN HOUR AWAY AND 31.5 MILES FROM ME. I ARRIVED AND THE SERVICE THERE WAS GREAT, AFTER ABOUT 1 AND A HALF HOURS [XXX] ASKED ME IN HIS OFFICE TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE POLICY IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND THAT THEY MAKE NO EXCEPTIONS, THAT THE 2ND OWNER DOESN'T GET AND HELP IN THIS KIND OF CASE AND YES THE COMPRESSOR WAS GONE WITH NO REAL REASON WHY IT WOULD GO IN SUCH A SHORT TIME (MILEAGE). I ASKED WHY I WASN'T TOLD THIS I WAS TALKING TO [XXX] AND THAT SHE WAS ENCOURAGING ME TO GO TO A CHEVY DEALER [XXX] AGREED THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD OF THIS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE DRIVESHAFT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THE DRIVE-SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO ORDER A NEW DRIVESHAFT AND WAS ADVISED THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN TWO TO THREE MONTHS. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNTIL THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
DURING NORMAL DRIVING OPERATIONS THE VEHICLE ENGINE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES. AUTO REPAIR SHOP STATES IT IS A COMBINATION OF BROKEN HEAD GASKET AND CRACKED EGR VALVE. CHEVY UPGRADED THE EGR VALVE AND THE NEW PART DOES NOT FIT ON THE EXISTING EGR COMPONENT. NOW HAVE TO PAY $280 FOR A NEW EGR ASSEMBLY AS WELL. TOTAL COST OF REPAIR FROM OVERHEATING IS $1900. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS IN MY 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT SEEN, BUT IN THE MEANTIME, THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE BRAKES STARTED TO BUZZ. THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT FIXED, THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS STANDING ON THE PEDAL, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. THE MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH FRONT SPEED SENSORS (THAT'S WHAT THE CODES SAID WAS WRONG). I TOOK IT HOME, AND THAT NIGHT, THE BRAKES VERY BRIEFLY BUZZED AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY, THEY BUZZED AGAIN. THE 3RD DAY, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON BUT ONLY AFTER I LOST MY BRAKES AGAIN FOR A BRIEF MOMENT. THE MECHANIC TRACED THE ENTIRE WIRING SYSTEM LOOKING FOR ANY PROBLEM AND FOUND NOTHING. HE FINALLY REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY ON THE SECOND ROUND OF MAINTENANCE BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT THE CODE WAS TELLING HIM THAT TIME. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND WHEN I WENT OUT FOR LUNCH (ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER), THE BRAKES BUZZED AGAIN (NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THIS TIME). THAT WAS YESTERDAY. I NOW HAVE IT AT THE CHEVY DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. SO FAR, THEY'VE GOTTEN ANOTHER CODE SAYING THAT THE SAME HUB ASSEMBLY THAT WAS REPLACED THIS WEEK IS THE PROBLEM. SOMEHOW, I DON'T THINK THAT'S THE ISSUE. I'M WAITING TO HEAR WHAT ELSE HAD TO BE FIXED AND WHETHER IT WILL REALLY AMELIORATE THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING. *TR
2005 CHEVY EQUINOX...AC BLOWS HOT AIR WHEN IT'S BEEN EXPOSED IN THE HEAT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. WHEN CAR IS MOVING WITHOUT STOPPAGE THE AC RETURNS TO NORMAL. WHEN THERE ARE LONG STOPS, THE AIR GETS HOT AGAIN. HAVE TAKEN IT TO MANY REPAIR SHOPS, THEY HAVE CHARGED THE FREON, NO PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPRESSOR. THEY SEEM TO THINK IT MIGHT BE A SENSOR. *KB
ABS SYSTEM WITH BRAKES HUGE FAIL - COULDN'T STOP. ABS AND NO TRACTION LIGHT ELLUMINATED...DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED BAD HUB, REPLACED. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED WITH 3 DAYS...DEALERSHIP SAID OLD CODE, CLEARED. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, GOING TO DEALERSHIP FOR A THIRD TIME. NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN ABS TRIES TO ENGAGE...ONCE LIGHTS ELUMINATE BRAKES WORK NORMALLY. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD ISSUE, DEALERSHIP NOT SURE OF HOW TO FIX...SHOULD BE A RECALLED ISSUED. HAVE A FEELING ITS A FAILING WIRE HARNESS THAT THE DEALERSHIP WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE. *TT
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE STALLED ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH. HAVE BEEN HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS BRAKES WHEN I PRESSED ON THEM I HAD NO BRAKES HAD TO GO OFF SIDE OF THE ROAD TO STOP SO I WOULDN'T HIT STOPPED VEHICLES. THEN THE ENGINE DOES NOT WANT TO START BACK UP AFTER IT STALLS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. I'VE OWNED THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT. I THOUGHT I BOUGHT A LEMON BUT WHEN I READ OTHER PEOPLE AND THEIR PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS IT SOUNDS LIKE THEIR ALL LEMONS!! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE BACK ON 8.2.11 IT HAD BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP SINCE 5.14.11. THE REPAIR MAN REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION MODULATOR. HE NOTED THAT IT DID "ACT UP" FOR HIM, HOWEVER IT HAD NOT ACTED UP SINCE HIS LAST ATTEMPT AT FIXING IT. IT WAS RAINING WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR. IN THE FIRST 10 MILES I NOTICED THE STEERING PULLED TO THE LEFT A COUPLE OF TIMES. AFTER I HIT DRY ROAD THIS DID NOT OCCUR. AFTER ABOUT 30-60 MILES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE SINCE GETTING IT BACK, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED FAILING AND THE VEHICLE WHILE GOING 55MPH STARTS TO FEEL LIKE IT IS GOING TO CEASE TO OPERATE AND STUTTERS. IT IS ALSO NOTED THAT IT FEELS LIKE IT IS NOT GOING TO AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR. THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY 8.5.11. *KB
WAS GOING UP HILL LOST POWER, SOUNDED LIKE CAR DID NOT HAVE MUFFLER, GOT HOME AND THE HOSE GOING TO HEADERS WAS BROKEN. TOOK TO GET FIXED SAID IT HAD BEEN REDESIGNED AND HAD TO ADD NEW PARTS TO FIX COST 400 PLUS LABOR. IF REDESIGNED MUST BE PROBLEM IN MORE THAN ONE CAR. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PARTS CHANGES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER IS TRYING TO CHARGE A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO REPAIR A SMALL PIPE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED SHE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THE ENTIRE PART WHICH SHE DIDN'T NEED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS TO THE 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN AUGUST 2009 WITH ROUGHLY 42000 MILES FROM CARMAX IN DULLES, VA. SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE SPENT NEARLY 3000 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS AS IT SEEMS THAT PARTS ARE WEARING OUT OR MALFUNCTIONING FAR EARLIER THAN TYPICAL. AT ABOUT THE 60000 MILE MARK, ALL FOUR ROTORS AND BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ROTORS BEING WARPED. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS IS NOT COMMON AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AT THIS TYPE OF MILEAGE. COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS ABOUT $500. TIRES HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE; ONCE AROUND 60000 MILES DUE TO "UNEVEN WEAR" WHICH WAS LIKELY A RESULT OF THE BAD ROTORS, AND AGAIN AROUND THE 100000 MARK ALSO FOR "UNEVEN WEAR". THIS COST $400 ON EACH OCCASION. AT THE 80000 MILE MARK A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT END, AND PROCEEDED TO GET WORSE UP TO THE 100000 MILE MARK. BETWEEN THOSE MILEAGE MARKS, THE FRONT END BEGAN TO FEEL VERY LOOSE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STRUTS PREMATURELY FAILED AND CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS OVER $1300 AND WAS REPAIRED ON JUNE 27, 2011. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY PROMINENT AND COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. ON TOP OF THESE ISSUES, THERE IS ALSO APPARENTLY A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR END AS WELL THAT IS ALSO CREATING A KNOCKING. ALSO, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE BEGUN TO FLASH REPEATEDLY AND VERY QUICKLY AT RANDOM TIMES AS WELL AS TURNING THEMSELVES ON AND OFF. THE CD PLAYER ALSO BROKE. AFTER AROUND A MINUTE OF THIS OCCURRING THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SLOWED DOWN AND DID NOT REGAIN POWER EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS SAFELY BROUGHT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 1 MILE OR LESS THE VEHICLE AGAIN DID THE SAME THING AND WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC.

ON MAY 6TH 2011 I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK ON THE 17W EXPRESSWAY. AFTER EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ON TO GRANT AVENUE WHERE I AM EMPLOYED MY STEERING WHEEL FELT FUNNY. UPON MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IN TO THE PARKING LOT MY STEERING COMPLETELY WENT LEAVING THE STEERING WHEEL TO SPIN COMPLETELY AROUND WITH NO CONTROL OF THE TIRES WHAT SO EVER. THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE COMPARTMENT THAT HOLDS THE RACK AND PINION. IF THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BECAME DEFECTIVE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESS WAY AT SIXTY FIVE MILES AN HOUR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING I COULD DO BUT BRAKE AND GOD KNOWS WHAT WAY THE WHEELS WOULD HAVE TURNED AND HOW MANY INCIDENT PEOPLE I WOULD HAVE WIPED OUT BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP PROBABLY FLIPPING BECAUSE OF LACK OF CONTROL. STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND AFTER AWHILE THE BRAKES WOULD VIBRATE EVEN WHEN NOT BREAKING AND SOMETIMES HAVE TROUBLE STOPPING UNTIL THE ABS AND TC LIGHT COMES ON. 1ST DIAGNOSTIC DETERMINED I NEEDED A RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. REPLACED IT AND 2 DAYS LATER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. NEXT I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED THE LEFT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. REPLACED IT. 2 DAYS LATER STARTING HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THEN I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING. REPLACED BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. STILL HAVE A PROBLEM ONLY NOW THE BRAKES ONLY VIBRATE AND LIGHTS COME ON HILLS, WHEN TURNING OR GOING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR

TOOK TO DEALER FOR ANOTHER ISSUE JUST HAD THEM CHECK TO SEE WHAT THIS "NEW" SHAKING WAS AND THEY TOLD ME THE CENTER CARRIER BEARING WAS "SHOT" AND NEEDED REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED THAT THIS REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF AROUND $1200 PLUS LABOR. THE SAFETY ISSUES HERE ARE ENORMOUS. IF THE DRIVE SHAFT LETS LOOSE THE VEHICLE COULD FLIP, ROLL, OR ANY NUMBER OF THINGS. WHY HAS A RECALL NOT BEEN DONE? I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. IT IS NOT COMMON FOR A CARRIER BEARING TO FAIL ESPECIALLY SO OFTEN AND EARLY. I HAVE 77,000 MILES ON THIS 2005 EQUINOX, WAY TOO SOON FOR SUCH ISSUES. I AM THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED WITH GM. DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROAD AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN THE IGNITION KEY FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH ONTO THE CAR FLOOR. THE SWITCH WAS STILL IN THE RUN POSITION AND I WAS ABLE TO REINSERT THE KEY INTO THE SWITCH. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73500. I NOTICED I CAN MANUALLY PULL THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH AT ANYTIME. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE MOVING TO SEE IF IT WILL LOCK WHEN THE KEY IS OUT AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION. IT DOES NOT LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND THE SWITCH IS IN THE RUN POSITION WITH THE KEY OUT. I HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE ISSUE AND IN A FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL BROUGHT THE KEY ISSUE TO THE SERVICE WRITERS ATTENTION. SHE SAID TO HAVE A NEW KEY MADE BY THE DEALER USING THE VEHICLE VIN. I DID NOT DO THIS YET. I HAVE THREE KEYS MADE BY LOCAL HARDWARE STORES ALL WITH THE SAME RESULT. *TR

AT 60 MPH MY 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX WAS RATTLING. WE BROUGHT THIS TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED US THAT THE CARRIER BEARING AT THE U-JOINT WAS FAILING. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE IN A VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 56,000 MILES ON IT. COST TO REPAIR WAS $550.00. *TR
01/21/2011 THE EQUINOX WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND WAS HAULED TO THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THERE APPEARED TO BE A SLOW LOSS OF COOLANT, REQUIRING A GALLON OF COOLANT TO BE ADDED OVER THE PREVIOUS THREE MONTH PERIOD. THERE WERE NO LEAKS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR, NOR ANY INTERIOR CABIN LEAKS APPARENT, BUT THERE HAD BEEN A "SYRUPY" SMELL IN THE PASSENGER CABIN. THE DEALER PUT IN A NEW BATTERY AND ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE HEATER CORE WAS LEAKING. THE NEW BATTERY AND HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT TOTALED $1090.11. APPARENTLY, WHEN THE BATTERY DIED, THE DIAGNOSTICS CODES RELATING TO THIS INCIDENT WERE LOST. 03/16/2011 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED FREQUENTLY IN THE PAST BUT HAD ALWAYS BEEN RELATED TO A LOOSE GAS CAP AND WAS EASILY REMEDIED BY TIGHTENING THE CAP. WHEN THAT SOLUTION DID NOT WORK, THE EQUINOX WAS TAKEN INTO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. IT WAS THEN DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT, WHERE IT IS NOW BEING REPAIRED. THE REPAIR TOTAL IS EXPECTED TO BE ABOUT $1400. IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS, THIS VEHICLE (WITH ONLY 68K MILES ON IT) HAS REQUIRED AT LEAST $2400 DOLLARS IN HEATER CORE AND ENGINE HEAD GASKET REPAIR COSTS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE HEATER CORE LEAKS WERE LIKELY TO HAVE HAD THE SUBSEQUENT EFFECT OF COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE HEAD GASKET. I HAVE FOUND MANY DOCUMENTED REFERENCES TO SIMILAR PROBLEMS OCCURRING IN THIS ENGINE MAKE, THE 3.4L GM V6. THERE ALSO SEEMS TO BE A RELATED LINK TO PROBLEMS WITH THE TYPE OF COOLANT USED IN THIS ENGINE (DEX COOL). AT THIS POINT, I AM NOT AWARE THAT GM HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS PROBLEM. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT SO THAT IT CAN BE ADDED TO THE MOUNTING EVIDENCE OF PRODUCT DEFECTS IN THIS ENGINE TYPE.

THIS VEHICLE IN TO A GM SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR HEATING ISSUES. THE FIRST TIME THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED. A YEAR LATER IN THE FALL, THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN NOT BLOWING HOT AIR. TOOK IT BACK TO GM AND THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER, IT WAS BROUGHT BACK IN BECAUSE THE HEAT WAS NOT BLOWING AGAIN. FOR THE 2ND TIME THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT. FOLLOWING YEAR, WOULDN'T BLOW HOT AIR AGAIN, THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM 3 TIMES AND FINALLY GOT THE HEAT WORKING AGAIN. FAST FORWARD TO FALL 2010. SAME PROBLEM, NOT BLOWING HEAT ONLY THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. GM DIAGNOSED A CRACKED HEAD GASKET AND A LEAKY WATER PUMP AND WOULDN'T COVER ANY OF THE SO CALLED PROBLEMS. THE FIRST 3-4 TIMES THAT THE CAR WAS IN TO BE WORKED ON IT HAD THE SAME "SYMPTOMS" 1. WHEN THE HEAT WAS WORKING AND I SLOWED TO STOP - IT WOULD START BLOWING COOL AIR, BUT AS SOON AS I ACCELERATED, THE WARM AIR RETURNED. 2. IF I TURNED THE FAN KNOB PAST THE 2ND TICK, IT WOULD START BLOWING COLD AIR. IN 2010, STARTED WITH THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS AND ONLY TO HAVE THE HEAT GO OUT COMPLETELY. GM WON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT.THIS GO AROUND DIAGNOSED A CRACKED HEAD GASKET AND A LEAKY WATER PUMP AND WOULDN'T HELP PAY TO FIX BECAUSE IT WAS A "NEW" DIAGNOSIS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. FUNNY HOW EACH TIME IT WAS IN PREVIOUSLY, THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS ARE DOCUMENT IN THEIR SYSTEM AND NO CRACKED HEAD GASKET OR LEAKY WATER PUMP WAS THE CAUSE. THEY'RE SKIRTING BY ON AN UNDERLYING ISSUE AND AREN'T WARRANTING THEIR PRODUCT! WE'VE SINCE TAKEN IT TO TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS AND THEY'VE BOTH TOLD US THE ISSUE ISN'T CAUSED BY A CRACKED HEAD GASKET OR LEAKY WATER PUMP. VEHICLE IS USED FOR COMMUTING TO WORK (35 MILES/DAY) ON PAVED ROADS.

2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX---WITH A BLOWN HEAD GASKET @ 63,000 MILES. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS VEHICLE AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE! IT IS A SHAME THAT GM/CHEVROLET WILL NOT STEP UP TO THE PLATE TO HELP OUT ALL OF US POOR UNSUSPECTING OWNERS WHO BOUGHT THIS SHODDY MADE CAR. IF ANYTHING, IT LOOKS AS IF THE NHTSA WOULD INTERVENE ON OUR BEHALF. *TR
