The wiper motor failed in a downpour while I drove on the Interstate surrounded by sem trucks. I was in the inside lane and managed to blindly pull off and sat broke down on the Interstate. The event was devastating and could have been fatal. My husband was able to get the replacement at OReilly part store that day. Yesterday 11-4-2022 a dealership cometed the recall work.

On Sunday, May 15, 2022, my daughter was driving on the NJ Turnpike Northbound from Rutherford, NJ when it began to rain. She was traveling 65 mph when the windshield wiper on the driver side stopped working. She explained that it became hazardous to drive as cars were splashing water on the windshield and it was raining and she had to lean over to the passenger side window in order to see. SHE WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. She got off at the next exit and thought the blade needed replacement. She took the car to a mechanic at Sunoco who tried 6 different wiper blades but it was not the blade but the motor which was faulty. The recall letter that was received in April 2022 details that the ball joint in the windshield wiper modules of these vehicles may experience high corrosion and wear that could result in the separation of one or more ball joints from their sockets during wiper operation. This could limit the driver's visibility and may increase the risk of a crash. The part had failed prior to a part becoming available. THANK GOD SHE WAS NOT INJURED. We have been unable to have this part repaired or replaced and we are without a safe vehicle. We had an appt. with Lester Glenn in Freehold, NJ on May 19, 2022 and Anthony has been the representative we have been in communication with regarding this repair. We have been told that the wiper module is not available at this time. What are we suppose to do with an unsafe vehicle? Communication with Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center has not remedied this situation. A loaner car was requested by Freehold Lester Glenn said he had none available. I have spent several hours on the phone without remedying this matter. It was suggested by Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center supervisor that I take the car to a third party to repair. The third party repair that we attempted to take the car too said they did not have the part and so we are now left without a safe vehicle to drive. The car is at the dealership. HELP
My daughter was traveling on the NJ Turnpike during a storm and the safety recall issue which we were alerted to failed and caused my daughter distress while traveling at 65 mph and put her in harm's ways. She was unable to make it home and was fortunate to not have an accident. WE RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL LETTER IN APRIL 2022 REGARDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULES THAT COULD FAIL FOR OUR CHEVROLET EQUINOX 2014 VEHICLE. THE LETTER INFORMED US THAT THIS PART IF IT SHOULD FAIL COULD CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE LETTER INFORMED US THAT WHEN IT BECAME AVAILABLE THEY WOULD CONTACT US. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER THE PART FAILED WHILE TRAVELING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE AT 65 MPH IN THE POURING RAIN. IT BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND OUR DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY HOME. WE CONTACTED CHEVROLET IN FREEHOLD REGARDING THE MATTER AND BROUGHT IT INTO THEIR DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR OF THE PART AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL DAYS AS THEY DETERMINED HOW TO REMEDY THIS MATTER. THE CAR WAS UNSAFE. AFTER CONTACT WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTED IN THE RECALL LETTER THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND A REPAIR SHOP LOCALLY THAT COULD DO THE REPAIR. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PART AND SUBMIT A FORM ALONG WITH A RECEIPT OF THE COMPLETED WORK BACK TO GM CHEVROLET. WE FOLLOWED ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND SUBMITTED THE FORM VIA EMAIL ALONG WITH THE RECEIPT AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED FOR THE PART. GM CHEVROLET IS NOW SAYING THAT UNTIL A RECALL PART IS AVAILABLE THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO REIMBURSE US. I SAVED ALL EMAILS FROM GM CUSTOMER SERVICE . WE WERE WITHOUT OUR VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THIS PART. MY DAUGHTER WAS PUT IN HARM'S WAY AND GM HAS FAILED TO PROPERLY COMPENSATE AND REIMBURSE US FOR THE REPAIR, TRAUMA, TIME AND INCONVENIENCE. PLEASE ASSIST US IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER.
