TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO HER REAR AND PUSHED THE VEHICLE FORWARD, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF A THIRD VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED HOWEVER, THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, AND INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER AND NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000. UPDATED 06/24/14 MA UPDATED 07/1/2014 *JS
I HAD JUST BOUGHT A CHEVY HHR LT THAT HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP ( THIS WAS A TRADE IN). WHEN I GOT HOME WITH THE CAR, THE FRONT END MADE A JIGGLING SOUND. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING STABILIZER SHAFT LINK AND STEERING COLUMN , THANK GOD THIS WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
STARTING APRIL 2011 MY CHEVY HHR HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ITS POWER STEERING. IT HAS TURNED OFF SEVERAL TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. EACH TIME COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I DRIVE A LOT OF WINDING ROADS AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE DOING SO NOW. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY HHR. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF MY CAR FOR A FEW MINUTE BEFORE I CAN START IT BACK UP AND HAVE THE POWER STEERING WORK. IT IS NOW STARTING TO TURN OFF SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY. I HAVE BEEN READING THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME VEHICLE. I FEAR THIS MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENTS THAT COULD BE AVOIDED IF IT IS RECALLED AND FIXED IN THE HHR. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE DEFECT HAD OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
WATER LEAKS IN DRIVER AND PASSANGER FLOORS. MOLD IN CAR. *TR
THE ELECTRIC STEERING SYSTEM OF MY 2008 HHR FAILED SO MANY TIMES ON ME. IT HAPPENED IN COOL MORNINGS AND IN HOT AFTERNOONS. ONE TIME THE SYSTEM FAILED WHILE I WAS MAKING AN U TURN AND THE CAR ALMOST JUMPED ONTO THE SIDEWALK BECAUSE IT WAS SO HARD TO TURN WITHOUT THE POWER ASSIST. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I SAW SOME REPORTS THAT IN CANADA THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. WHY NOT IN US? *TR
I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE POWER STEERING IN MY CAR WOULD INTERMITTENLY FAIL ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MONTHS AGO. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS WHEN I WAS TURNING MY WHEEL WHILE ENTERING INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CAR MADE A DINGING SOUND, THEN IN THE ODOMETER ARE IT READ "PWER STEERING." IT THEN BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICUIT TO TURN MY WHEEL. I STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF, THEN RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT WHEN I TURNED IT OFF, STARTED, THEN RESTARTED, IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL JUST AS IT DID BEFORE. THIS CONTINUED ON FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, EACH TIME IT WOULD BE LESS AND LESS TIME BETWEEN INCIDENTS. NOW, I CAN'T EVEN GET TEN FEET OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY BEFORE I LOSE THE POWER STEERING FUNCTION. IT CONTINUES TO FUNCTION NORMALLY WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED, AND THEN FOR A SHORT DISTANCE, BUT EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR NOW, I HAVE NO USE OF MY POWER STEERING. *TT
I LIVE IN DELTONA, FL AND DROVE TO PALM BAY, FL FROM HOME AND GOT OUT OF MY CAR, RETURNED TO IT A FEW MINUTES LATER AND STARTED IT WITH THE KEY FOB AND GOT IN AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. HAD TO LET THE CAR TURN ITSELF OFF AND TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO TURN THE KEY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT LOCKED, I WALKED TO A NEARBY FIRESTONE DEALER WHO KINDLY AGREED TO LET A TECHNICIAN COME OVER TO MY CAR AND TRY TO TURN THE KEY, HE WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AS WELL AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL INTO THE LOCKED POSITION HOWEVER WAS STILL UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TOW ME TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALERSHIP, IN MELBOURNE, FL. THIS DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T EVEN TELL ME IF THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK TO REPLACE IT SO THAT I COULD DRIVE HOME THEY TOLD ME TO PAY TO BE TOWED AND LET THEM LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHAT THE ISSUE REALLY WAS. I WENT ONLINE AND SAW THAT MANY OTHER HHR OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AND THEY HAD SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO CORRECT IT, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE TUMBLER WAS FROZEN. I WALKED TO A GAS STATION TO BY WAD-40 AND SPRAYED IT IN THE IGNITION HOLE AND UNLOCKED MY STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENT TO ALLOW ME TO PULL IT UP AND DOWN AS QUICKLY AND AS HARD AS I COULD TO GET THE TUMBLER TO FREE ITSELF UP, TO NO AVAIL. 1.5 HOURS AFTER THE ISSUE BEGAN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SHOWED UP AND ASKED ME WHAT WAS WRONG AND I TOLD HIM HE COULD TRY AND HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY TO TURN. I DROVE BACK HOME THE 1.5 HOURS AND MY HUSBAND IS ORDERING A REPLACEMENT PIECE TO INSTALL. WHY SHOULD WE PAY TO REPLACE THIS PIECE WHEN THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO SO MANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL? *TR
2008 CHEVY HHR WITH INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. CHEVY COBALT HAD A RECALL ON THE SAME POWER STEERING MOTOR HHR USES, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON HHR???!!! *TR
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY HHR, AND HAVE HAD TO DO QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH TO FIND OUT WHAT THE REAL ISSUE HERE IS. THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON OTHER WEB SITES ABOUT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT GOING OUT EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. THE PROBLEM IS, THAT NO DEALERSHIP CAN SEEM TO DIAGNOSE THE "CLUNKING" NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL AND STEERING COLUMN. HOWEVER THE FEW SHOPS THAT HAVE FIGURED IT OUT ARE HAVING TO RE-REPLACE THE PART CONSTANTLY. GM HAS RE-DESIGNED THE PART FOR OTHER VEHICLES BUT NOT THE HHR. MINE HAS BEEN REPLACED EVERY 10,000 MILES, 4 TIMES NOW AND IT WEARS OUT AFTER ABOUT 10K. GM SHOULD CREATE A BETTER ONE FOR THE HHR AND OFFER A RECALL SINCE THEIR PART IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 10-30 MIN, AT ANY SPEED BUT USUALLY AT OR ABOVE 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WOULD MALFUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY, STEERING/HANDLING BECAME DIFFICULT. FEELS LIKE IT'S OVER-CORRECTING OR IS ICE-SKATING AROUND THE LANE WHEN KEEPING THE WHEEL STRAIGHT. OCCASIONALLY HHR WILL BUCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WOULD SLOW DOWN TO 55-65MPH AND STILL EXPERIENCE ROUGH BUCKING & POOR HANDLING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TO FIX WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE, THEY SAID THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS, BUT STILL EXPERIENCE THEM ALMOST DAILY. ALSO HAVE HAD TROUBLES REMOVING THE KEY FROM IGNITION AFTER SHIFTING THE CAR INTO PARK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE EITHER A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ALL POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 72,400.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, SHE NOTICED THE POWER STEERING WARNING ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL AND THE STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,800. UPDATED 02/03/11*LJ THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL BY HER MECHANIC. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, SHE WAS INFORMED THE RECALL WAS NOT FOR HER VEHICLE, BUT FOR OTHER MODELS. UPDATED 04/21/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING POWER FAILED CAUSING LIMITED STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS FAULTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE PART WAS PART OF A RECALL FOR ANOTHER MODEL BUT NOT FOR HER PARTICULAR YEAR VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,849 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
MY 2008 HHR LOOSES POWER STEERING WHILE TURNING, THEN SUDDENLY RETURNS POWER CAUSING TO OVERSTEER. THIS IS A SEVER SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS A COME AND GO TYPE PROBLEM,I DO NOT DRIVE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER FEARING BODY DAMAGE TO PERSONS AND VEHICLES OTHER THAN MYSELF. I HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD WE CAN NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AS IT IS INTERMITTENT. ALSO THE TIRE PRESSURE DISPLAY IS ON EVEN THO ALL TIRE PRESSURE IS CORRECT, NOT SURE IF THEY ARE RELATED TO "ELECTRIC" POWER STEERING. WOULD LIKE THIS AS A RECORD IF ANY PERSONS ARE INJURED OR WORSE KILLED DUE TO THE POSSIBLE SHORT CIRCUIT IN POWERSTEERING. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLES AT HOME AFTER SPENDING ALL THEIR MONEY ON THEM FOR THIS TO BE A RECALL? *TR
KEPT HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS OR HITTING REGULAR BUMPS IN THE ROAD. HAVE TAKEN IT TO CHEVY MECHANICS SEVERAL TIMES, AND NO ISSUE WAS FOUND. TOOK IT IN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A TUNE UP AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT BUSHINGS WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AND IT WAS HAVING AN ADVERSE EFFECT ON MY ALIGNMENT. MECHANIC STATED THAT FOR THE BUSHINGS TO BE IN THE CONDITION THEY WERE IN, THIS HAD TO HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. CHEVY NEVER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND NEVER MADE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR REPAIRS OF THIS NATURE. VERY UPSET THAT I AM NOW OUT OF WARRANTY (MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I FIRST STARTED HEARING THE NOISE) AND I AM NOW LOOKING AT A $1200 REPAIR THAT CHEVY SHOULD HAVE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED 4 YEARS AGO WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM. THIS ON TOP OF ALL OF THE RECALLS AND OTHER ISSUES GM SEEMS TO BE HAVING, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM VEHICLE. *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TURNED ITSELF OFF MID TURN CAUSING A DRASTIC UNDERSTEERING LEADING THE VEHICLE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, UPON RESEARCH I FOUND THAT GM RECALLED THE EXACT SAME STEERING COMPONENTS THAT FAILED IN THE HHR IN OTHER GM VEHICLES BUT NOT THE HHR. IF THIS DOES NOT WARRANT SERIOUS INVESTIGATION WHAT DOES. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED EVERYTHING WAS FINE AS WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TURNED BACK ON MID-TURN CAUSING MY WIFE TO OVER TURN INTO SOMEONE'S FRONT LAWN, HAD ANYONE BEEN IN THE WAY THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. WE'VE BEEN LUCKY THIS FAR BUT AS WE ARE A LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLD WE DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO PAY SOME DEALER TO FIX THIS AS THEY ALL SAY IT'S ON US THE OWNERS TO TAKE CARE OF EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE SAME DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT THAT WAS IN VEHICLES LIKE THE COBALT AND PONTIACS LINES, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ISSUED, THIS IS A SEVER DRIVING IMPAIRMENT THAT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND GM DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE DUE TO IT'S AN ACCEPTABLE LOSS! NO LIFE IS AN ACCEPTABLE LOSS, PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS INTO THIS SAME ISSUE IN THE RESEARCH I PREFORMED, BY THE WAY, WHY IS IT GM CANADA ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS PART FOR THE HHR AND NOT THE US BRANCH? OUR HHR IS A 2008 WITH 66000 MILES ON IT AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS THE ISSUE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPUTER MONITOR WAS PROVIDING INCORRECT INFORMATION AND THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OF THE COMPUTER MONITOR WAS CAUSED BY THE OXYGEN SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED. (DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT RISE AND RELEASE. HAD TO BE MANUALLY PULLED UP.) REPLACED. OK SINCE THEN. 33,300 MILES. CURRENT MILES 44,200. *TR
VERY ROUGH FRONT END VIBRATION AND DIFFICULTY STEERING WHILE BRAKING DOWNHILL. THIS IS THE "SECOND TIME" THIS HAS OCCURED AND I NOTIFIED MY DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP RE-CUT MY ROTORS "DUE TO RUST ON ROTORS". *TR
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR THAT HAS THE IDENTICAL POWER STEERING SYSTEM AS THE COBALT THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED, HOWEVER GM HAS NOT RECALLED THE HHR FOR SOME REASON. I AM NOW HAVING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY CHEVY HHR POWER STEERING AS REPORTED WITH THE COBALT. IN THE PAST FEW DAYS THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED 6 TIMES, INCLUDING ONCE ON A HIGHWAY, TRAVELING 55 MILES AN HOUR BETWEEN SEMIS. IT WAS QUITE SCARY. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THAT THEY CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT WAS THERE AT THE JIFFY LUBE THAT I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAR DID NOT TAKE POWER STEERING FLUID AND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME CHEVYS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT THE HHR BUT I SEE FROM SEARCHING THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE LIKE ME POSTING BLOGS AND COMMENTS ABOUT THEIR PROBLEM. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN DECEMBER OF 2010, AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR. IT HAD 13435 MILES AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. AFTER SIX MONTHS, 17000 MILES, SERVICE LIGHTS BEGAN TO LIGHT UP---I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. AFTER TAKING IT HOME ALL SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY WHEN IN AUGUST, 17100 MILES, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A SHUTTERING WHEN BRAKING AND A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. DEALER REPAIRED, HARNESS AND HUB BEARING AND I PURCHASE TWO NEW FRONT TIRES. WITHIN ABOUT A YEAR CAR BEGAN TO SHIMMY AGAIN WHEN BRAKING. AT 25000 MILE , DEALER STATED NOW BRAKES ARE BAD, WARPED AND ROTORS NEED WORK. WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF TAKING CAR HOME, SHIMMYING BEGAN TO START AGAIN. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE WITH REGARD TO THE BRAKES, BUT GM DENIES ANY KNOWLEDGE OF PROBLEMS. HMMMMMMMM! *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR IN MAY OF 2009. THE VEHICLE HAS OVERHEATED 4 TIMES IN A YEAR. THE RADIATOR AND CYLINDER HEADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND I CAN NOT BE GUARANTEED THAT IS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN BY THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE ADMITTED IT IS AN UNSEEN SITUATION, BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) HI, [XXX] , I HAVE A HHR FROM CHEVROLET, IT HAS ALL THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUES THAN COBALT AND PONTIAC G5, THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUES, ME AND A THOUSANDS OF OWNERS OF HHRS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, POWER STEERING SUDDENLY JUST WENT OFF AND IS VERY HARD TO STEER, I HAVE TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND THEN TURN ON TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT SUDDENLY AFTER 8 TO 15 MINUTES OCCURS AGAIN AND IT IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE THE STEERING IS VERY HARD TO STEER, I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I KNOW THE POWER STEERING IS THE SAME AS A G5 AND COBALT, WHY THE HHR WAS NOT INCLUDED? MY 2008 HHR HAS 45000 MILES AND IS A YEAR AND HALF OLD. THE IGNITION LOCKED UP AND I CAN PLACE MY KEY INTO THE IGNITION BUT NOT TURN ON. I CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND SINCE I HAVE MORE MILES THAN THE WARRANTY, I HAVE TO PAY OVER $600 TO GET A PROBLEM FIXED THAT SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. I WAS A CHEVY GUY, HOWEVER I KNOW NOW THAT SINCE MANY ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES. I WILL NEVER PAY ANOTHER CHEVY. POOR QUALITY AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. *TR
BRAKE ROTORS WARPED AND THE CAR WOULD SHAKE WITH SUCH A SEVERE FORCE CONTROLLING THE CAR WAS VERY HARD. AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED FOUR SETS, BEFORE THE CAR HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT AND THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN. JUST BEFORE THE LAST ROTORS WERE, REPLACED THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WOULD CEASE WORKING AND EFFECTIVELY HINDER OUR ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS STILL A PROBLEM DAILY AT DIFFERENT TIMES. I AM GOING TO CHECK INTO THE REPAIR PROCESS SOON. I FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE ROTORS WARPING AND SHAKING THE FRONT END EQUIPMENT OF THE HHR. IN CLOSING, I REPLACED THE PADS AND THEY WERE NOT WORN OUT. I KEPT THEM FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE DECREASED IN SPEED DESPITE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NINE TIMES. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE FUSE BOX THE WIRING HOUSING AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I TOOK CAR INTO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT'S STALLING IN TRAFFIC REPEATEDLY WHEN I AM TRYING TO COME TO A STOP AND EVEN ONCE WHEN JUST DRIVING. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND DIAGNOSTICS WEREN'T REPORTING ANY PROBLEMS. THEY RELEASED VEHICLE THAT NEXT DAY AND IT STALLED ON ME IN LOT. THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO STALL YET IT HAPPENED WITHIN FIVE MIN OF ME PICKING IT UP. I THEN TOOK IT BACK THEY KEPT IT FOR THE WEEKEND. RELEASED IT BACK TO ME AFTER I WAS TOLD IT HAD STALLED ONCE BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I CONTACTED G.M CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEN THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I GOT THE REPORT STATED IT HESITATED AND WHEN I ASKED WHY THEY PUT THAT DOWN AND NOT THAT IT HAD STALLED LIKE THE KATHY HAD TOLD ME ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IT HAD DONE, THEY REFUSED TO ANSWER ME. THE CAR STILL STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. I WILL NO LONGER TAKE IT HERE. I JUST WANT MY CAR TO BE SAFE WHERE I WON'T GET HIT DOING UTURNS INTO TRAFFIC LIKE I ALMOST HAVE BEEN WITH MY BABY THE DAY I PICKED UP VEHICLE. I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK TO START IT OVER AGAIN. CLUTCH PEDAL STICKING TO FLOOR BOARD, CANNOT GET VEHICLE INTO REVERSE GEAR. CLUTCH PEDAL STARTS FEELING SQUISHY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN PEDAL WILL STICK TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE CLUTCH WILL BE FULLY ENGAGED. HAVE TO MANUALLY PULL PEDAL UP WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF TO USE CLUTCH AGAIN. REVERSE GEAR GRINDS AND WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR AROUND THE SAME TIME THE CLUTCH PEDAL STARTS ACTING UP. *TR
WE OWN A 2008 HHR AND IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE . FIRST WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN DEC 2008 IT HAD 23,000 MILES ON IT. TWO MONTHS AFTER WE GOT THE CAR WE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT ROTORS ON IT AND AFTER FIGHTING WITH GM THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE ROTORS. AT THIS TIME THEY TOLD US THAT THE CAR NEEDED NEW TIRES AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AT 26,000 MILES . THEN JUST TWO MONTHS AGO AT 61,000 MILES IT HAD A RUMBLING NOISE IN THE FRONT END ,THE DRIVETRAIN WAS STILL UNDER WARRENTY.THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RIGHT SIDE AXLE BEARING WAS BAD AND THEY REPLACED IT,AND ALSO AT THIS TIME THEY TOLD US THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO US OF OVER $400.00 . JUST LAST WEEK THE RUMBLING NOISE RETURNED , I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY TOLD US THAT THIS THE LEFT AXLE BEARING WAS BAD, WARRANTY ALSO COVERED THIS REPAIR. ALSO THEY SAID THAT THE CAR NEEDED THE FRONT ROTORS TURNED AND NEW BRAKE PADS ON IT .MY WIFE HIT A POTHOLE ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO AND BENT THE WHEEL . COST TO REPLACE THE WHEEL WAS $150.00 . WHEN I ROTATED THE TIRES AS PER GMS ADVICE I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT WAS LEAKING ,AND AS WELL AS THE LEFT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER. THE ONLY THING I LIKE ABOUT THIS CAR WAS ITS LOOKS. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY TAKEN INTO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,430.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2008 CHEVROLET HHR FAILS OFTEN. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THEN MY POWER STEERING IS GONE. THIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES A DAY AND THEN WILL NOT HAPPEN SOMETIMES FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THERE IS NO PARTICULAR TIME IT HAPPENS. I WAS JUST EXTREMELY LUCKY IT WAS EARLY IN THE MORNING AND I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE WHERE I COULD DOWN SHIFT TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO REMOVE THE TOP OF THE KNOB. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO BRING IT IN HE SAID THERE WAS SOMEBODY STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKES SHUDDER IN FRONT WHEN MODERATE APPLICATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED 120KPH - DEALER FIX IS HAVING ROTORS MACHINED BUT EVERY TIME THEY DO THAT THEY GET THINNER AND HEAT UP QUICKER THEREFORE WARP QUICKER. THIS TIME THEY HAD TO REPLACE ROTORS AND MACHINED REAR DRUM BECAUSE I LITERALLY HAD TO YOU USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP ON THE HIGHWAY TO GET BACK HOME FROM OUR TRIP. I'M A LICENSED MECHANIC AND HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH POOR PERFORMANCE IN BRAKES, MY SOLUTION WOULD BE TO INSTALL DISC BRAKES ON THE REAR AXLE TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE IN BRAKING. THIS PROBLEM STARTED AT SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED 2008 FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS AT 5K (KM) NEW ROTORS WERE PUT IN AT 45K (KM). PLEASE RECALL THESE BRAKES. *TR

HE HAS TO CLIMB OVER THE CENTER CONSOLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE BODY CONTROL MODULE AND THE LEFT FRONT DOOR LATCH WERE REPLACED. ALSO THE LUBRICATION WAS APPLIED TO THE DOOR LATCHES AND LOCK RODS. NEITHER OF THESE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,091.

I PURCHASED A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR IN 2009 WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT. I NOTICED BRAKING/SHAKING PROBLEM. DEALER FIXED IT THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT IT. UNDER 500 MILES LATER, BRAKING/SHAKING STARTS AGAIN. DIFFERENT DEALER TURNS ROTORS TWO MORE TIMES. PADS ARE WEARING EVENLY, SO THE DEALER MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO PURCHASE AFTER-MARKET ROTORS AS THE OEM DO NOT APPEAR TO RESIST WARPING VERY WELL. WHEN THE DEALER'S MECHANIC RECOMMENDS PUTTING ON A NON-DEALER PART, THERE HAS GOT TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINEERING OF THE CAR OR THE INTEGRITY OF THE METAL IN THE ROTORS. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON PEOPLE TURNING AND RE-TURNING THESE ROTORS ALL OVER THE WEB, ULTIMATELY LEADING THEM TO REPLACE WITH NON-GM PARTS. *KB
