FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS I NOTICED MY POWER STEERING, CRUISE CONTROL BEING CUT OFF AND JERKING WITH MY CAR. BUT UP TIL THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST MY CAR WOULDN'T START, IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. COME AUGUST 18TH MY CAR COMPLLIFE ROY WON'T START. THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER TOOK IN THE CAR FOR THE RECALL BUT NOW IT'S ACTING UP AGAIN. MULTIPLE TIME WHERE I LOOSE CONTROL OF MY CAR AND OR THE CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN TO THE POINT IT FELT LIKE I WAS STOPPING THEN IT WOULD JERK. I THOUGHT THE DEALERSHIP COULD FIX THIS BUT THEY CAN NOT, GM, RIGTH WAY AND ETC ARE NOT HELPING. I'M TERRIFIED MY CAR WON'T WORK AND ALSO IT'LL BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
THE FUEL LINE IN MY 2008 HHR CHEVY WAGON, COMING FROM THE REAR FUEL TANK IS PRESSURIZED BY A FUEL PUMP. JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE, IT UNDERGOES A 90-DEGREE BEND. THIS PAST WEEKEND, IT FAILED, MOST LIKELY DUE TO CORROSION, AND GASOLINE WAS BEING PUMPED OUT OF THE TANK AT A VERY HIGH VOLUME. THIS IS THE THIRD GM PRODUCT THAT I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO IN EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT, THE OTHER TWO WERE SATURN ION SEDANS. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME YESTERDAY THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE FOR GM FUEL LINES. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE LEAK DID NOT CAUSE A FIRE- IT WAS A LARGE POOL OF FUEL UNDER THE CAR! (WHENEVER THE IGNITION IS TURNED ON, IT APPEARS THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS SUPPLYING PRESSURIZED FUEL TO THE LINE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER YELLED AT ME TO TURN THE KEY OFF AFTER I GOT IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY! IT WAS GUSHING GAS! THE NHTSA SHOULD CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. ($100 TO FIX, NOT BAD FOR AN OLD CAR.) THANKS.
FUEL LINE IS UNSAFE AND FIRE HAZARD. NOTICED A LEAK AROUND REAR DOOR. THE LINE IS MADE OF CHEAP STEEL, NOT SOMETHING LIKE STAINLESS STEEL AND NEXT TO THE EXHAUST PIPE. COULD CAUSE BOTH A FIRE AND EXPLOSION. THIS IS A RECALL REPAIR FOR GM.
I noticed a strong odor of gasoline and took the HHR to my local mechanic. He diagnosed it as a rusted fuel line caused by the proximity of a heat shield that traps water.. He was able to repir it by splicing in a section of the line. A bout a yer later the line was leaking again and this time there is not enough line left to splice that isn;t rusted. Obviously this is a danger ranging from leaking gasoline hitting a hot exhaust to a passerby discarding a lit cigarette near the leak and blowing themselves and my car to Kingdome Come. A Check engine light comes on periodically, but is only partially indicative of the gas leak as a possibility. This is a safety issue for both the owner and anyone who might happen by with a lit object
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED LIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
TAKARA RECALL. WHILE PRESSING ON THE BREAK PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP THE ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTOLABLEY. WHILE DRIVING ON BUMPY ROADS FEELS LIKE THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO FALL APART. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO DIFFERENT PLACES AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS FINE. NEXT STOP IS THE DEALER.
POWER STEERING UNEXPECTEDLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I FIRST TURN IN CAR, IT IS FINE AND CAN DRIVE BUT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES POWER STEERING GOES OUT.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND MY STEERING WAS HARD TO TURN. IT'S VERY HARD TO STEER LIKE IF I WAS DRIVING AN OLDER MODEL CAR WITH NO POWER STEERING. NOT VERY SAFE FOR ME AND THE FAMILY
THE SUN VISOR WILL FALL DOWN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND TOTALLY BLOCK THE VIEW OF THE WINDSHIELD.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING ON HIGHWAY. NEARLY RUN OVER BY LOGGING TRUCK TRYING TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. RESTARTED CAR AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE. NOW, THE STEERING LOSS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE. THIS IS THE SAME SYSTEM THAT GM RECALLED FOR 2008-09 HHR'S,(14V153000) AND EXTENDED TO THE 2008 HHR THROUGH GM BULLETIN #14119. GM IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECALL!
DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AROUND 40 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ALARM SOUNDS AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING. VERY HARD TO TURN DROVE HOME AND IT DID IT AGAIN TODAY....ALSO TIRE SENSORS ALARM STATING TIRES ARE DEFLATED...WHEN THEY ARE FINE..
VEHICLE IN MENTION, CHEVY HHR 2008, SUDDEN ACCELERATION GOING DOWN FREEWAY REACHING 80 MPH. RPM'S WENT UP TO 6 AND STAYED FOR OVER 7 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO NO WHERE FOR ME TO TURN. I SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN BY ENGAGING NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE BREAKING. THE BREAKS WERE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. MY RIGHT FOOT WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN OFF WHEN SUDDEN ACCELERATION OCCURRED. I DID NOT HAVE MANY OPTIONS ON A TWO LANE NORTHBOUND FREEWAY 101 IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. I COULD TURN TO THE RIGHT AND GO DOWN AN EMBANKMENT OR TURN LEFT AND HIT MEDIAN AND ANOTHER VEHICLE OR KEEP GOING FORWARD AND RAM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING IN PARK WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED. THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVED UP AND RPM'S AT 6 STILL. I DID TURN CAR OFF AND STARTED AGAIN AND CAR WAS STILL REVVED UP, VERY LOUD ENGINE NOISE. TRIED REVERSE AND CAR ENGAGED IN REVERSE FAST. I TURNED VEHICLE OFF AGAIN AND CALLED TOW TRUCK.
WHIAL DRIVING THE POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE TURNS OFF/FAILS AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT SHOWES ON DASH. WHEN YOU STOP AND CUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON IT WORKS AGAIN FOR A WIAL THEN FAILS AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
STRONG SMELL AND PUDDLING WHEN PARKED INDICATING FUEL LINE LEAKAGE AT REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE AREA (JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE). UPON REPLACEMENT THE FUEL LINE WAS DISCOVERED TO BE CORRODED.
THIS IS A VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF VEHICLE. THE DESIGN AND PLACEMENT OF THE FUEL LINES ARE NEAR THE EXHAUST AND WRAPPED IN HEAT PROTECTION WHICH CAUSES CONDENSATION AND THE BUILDING UP OF MOISTURE TO RUST OUT THE FUEL LINES. THEY BEGIN TO LEAK RIGHT NEXT TO THE EXHAUST WHICH IS A FIRE HAZARD THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD TAKE CARE OF BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (PINKERTON CHEVROLET BUICK GMC CADILLAC, 801 GRAVES MILL RD, LYNCHBURG, CA 24502) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR INDEPENDENTLY OPENED AND FAILED TO LATCH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FAILED TO PROPERLY OPERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY DEACTIVATE THE SIGNAL SWITCH TO TURN OFF THE SIGNALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH AND THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER/ SWITCH ASSEMBLY TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. *TT *TR
VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. RESTARTED CAR AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND HAD TO MANUALLY TURN THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN. CAR SET FOR A WHILE AND PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED.
RUSTED FUEL LINE LEAK IN FRONT OF REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE APPEARED TO HAVE RUSTED FROM THE FIRE PROTECTION THE LINES WERE WRAPPED IN TO PROTECT LINES FROM THE HEAT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE FROM FACTORY. STRONG GAS SMELL COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE AND INTERIOR. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A WEEK UNTIL NOTICED SMELL AND COMPLICATIONS ON COLD STARTING VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IT IS VERY UNSAFE IF THE LINES WERE STAINLESS STEEL FROM THE FACTORY WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO TRY AND JUMP THROUGH HOOPS FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE IT SHOULD BE MANDATED THAT FUEL LINES BRAKE LINES ETC SHOULD ALL BE MADE OF STAINLESS TO RESIST ROAD SALTS AND RUST
FUEL LINE RUSTED AND LEAKING NEAR REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR/TIRE (NEXT TO GAS TANK). I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE IN HHRS. FROM MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THE ROUTING OF THE LINE COMBINED WITH THE HEAT SHIELDING LEAD TO MOISTURE TRAPPING AND CORROSION MORE QUICKLY THAN EXPECTED.
I BOUGHT A USED 2008 CHEVY HHR FROM LITHIA IN EUREKA, CA 11/3/2017 AND 11/24/2017 THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE THE DRIVE FUNCTION. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND NO LUCK. TRANSMISSION SEEMS BLOWN, AND THE ELECTRICAL WAS MALFUNCTIONING. NO FLASHEERS, RADIO WITH WEIRD NOISES, STRANGE SOUNDS FROM ENGINE AFTER ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE. WE ARE NOW STUCK 200 MILES FROM HOME AND LITHIA MANAGER HAS NOT RETURNED MY PHONE CALL. I AM A MIDDLE AGED STUDENT, WORKING MINIMUM WAHE. I GAVE THE DEALERSHIP ALL MY MOMEY FOR A BROKEN CAR. I SHOULS HAVE RESEARCHED MORE THAT IS APPARENT. I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY MISHAPS. YET, THIS IS 3 WEEKS AFTER GIVING AWAY $5000 FOR A WORKING VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TILLERY BUICK GMC (2221 AUTUMN BRUSH RD NW, LOS LUNAS, NM 87031, (505) 565-3333) FOR REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE MOTOR POWER ASSIST FAILED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE REMEDY DID NOT RESOLVE THE RECURRING FAILURE AND THE ISSUE MAY BE THE COLUMN KIT MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,223.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY GOES OUT. SOMETIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, AN ALERT SOUND GOES OFF, THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" SHOWS ON THE DASH WHERE THE ODOMETER WAS AND STIFF MANUAL STEERING SUDDENLY REPLACES NORMAL STEERING. THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS! IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET BACK HOME, I FOUND THAT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RESET THE POWER STEERING AND IT IS BACK TO NORMAL. THEN IT WORKS FINE FOR QUITE A WHILE BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND WENT INTO NO POWER STEERING MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
GASOLINE LEAKING FROM DRIVERS REAR TIRE AREA. CAUSED BY RUSTED FUEL LINES. THE FUEL LINES ARE LOCATED NEXT TO THE MUFFLER. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I TOOK IT TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD OVER $1000 TO REPAIR THIS FUEL LINE. SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND HE SAID THAT GM SPECIFICALLY STATES NO WARRANTY ON FUEL LINES IN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY THAT USE SALT AND SAND TO TREAT THE ROADWAYS. I LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS AND WE USE SAND AND SALT ON THE ROADS. GM IS AWARE OF THIS RUSTED FUEL LINE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT RECALL AND REPLACE.
FUEL LEAK ON CAR. NOTICED PROBLEM STARTING CAR AND THEN A SMALL PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER CAR AFTER CAR WAS PARKED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS APPLIED BUT IT WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR OF FUEL OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
ON JULY 31, 2017 I NOTICED A GAS ORDOR COMING FROM THE CAR , WHEN INSPECTED I NOTICE A GAS LEAK ON THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE. LOOKING FORDER INTO THE MATTER THE CAR WAS JACK UP TO SEE WE'RE THE LEAK WAS, THE FUEL LINES WERE IN A TERRIBLE SHAPE, RUSTED OUT, WHICH THEN CREATED A CRACK AND FUEL WAS LEAKING. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL, IT IS ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS BIG FIRE HAZARD . WE DID GET THE CAR REPAIR AND THE FUEL LINES WERE REPLACED.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT AFTER DRIVING A FEW MIN. IT COMES BACK ON AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. IT WILL WORK FOR A FEW MIN THEN QUIT AGAIN.
THIS ISSUE INVOLVES A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR WITH THE BASE RADIO SYSTEM. THE MAIN DOOR MOUNTED RADIO SPEAKERS STOPPED FUNCTIONING IN 2017. THE A-PILLAR HIGH FREQUENCY "TWEETER" SPEAKERS CONTINUE TO WORK BUT ARE UNINTELLIGIBLE. WITH THE MAIN RADIO SPEAKERS OUT, TWO SAFETY FEATURES NO LONGER WORK; THE SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME AND THE ONSTAR SUBSCRIPTION SAFETY SERVICE. I BELIEVE BOTH THESE SYSTEMS RELY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MOUNTED SPEAKER. OTHER SAFETY CHIMES, IF ANY, WOULD ALSO BE AFFECTED. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE AS I PERSONALLY KNOW OF OTHER HHRS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING SLOW SPEEDS 3 EVENTS, HIGH SPEED 2 EVENTS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AS IF THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANIPULATE THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,291.
WHILE DRIVING, I WOULD KEEP CONSTANTLY LOSING POWER STEERING. I WOULD PULL OVER, TURN OFF VEHICLE AND THEN RESTART VEHICLE TO REGAIN POWER STEERING. THEN MINUTES LATER THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WOULD BE EXPERIENCED AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHER SPEED TURNS.
STARTED GETTING A GAS SMELL IN THE GARAGE WHEN COMMING BACK HOME. TODAY I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DRIPPING GAS FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER SEAT. FIRE HAZARD. THIS CAR IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD, HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER CAR THAT HAD A FUEL LINE LEAK. LEAKING RAW FUEL TO THE GROUND WHEN RUNNING LUCKILY I SAW IT AND WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR TILL I GET IT FIXED.
I NOTICED STRONG GAS SMELL WHILE CAR IS RUNNING, EXHAUST MAKING FUNNY SOUND. FUEL LINE LEAKING ON DRIVERS SIDE REAR, RIGHT NEXT TO EXHAUST PIPE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS INJURY IF CAR HAD EXPLODED OR CAUGHT FIRE!
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. RECEIVE A 3 CHIME WARNING AND POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARS ON DASH BOARD AS POWER STEERING IS LOST. HAPPENED WHILE TURNING ON LOCAL STREETS.
STEERING WILL LOCK UP AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING WILL OCCUR. THIS HAS HAPPEN WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION OR PARKED AND ENGINE TURNED ON. WHEN IN MOTION WILL PULL OVER AND STOP ENGINE WAIT A WHILE AND POWER STEERING RETURNS, WHEN IN PARKED WILL TURN ON ENGINE IF POWER STEERING IS ABSENT WILL TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT AWHILE AND POWER STEERING WILL RETURN, THIS HAS HAPPEN FREQUENTLY.
STARTING SMELLING FUEL ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND NOW IT'S REALLY STRONG. LOOKS LIKE THE LINE IS RUSTING OUT NEAR REAR TIRE. I WOULD THINK THAT IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I AM FINDING A LOT OF HHR OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IN MY OPINION AND IS DANGEROUS I WOULD THINK.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING TURNS OFF ON A CONSTANT BASIS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND ALL POWER STEERING IS LOST !
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE WHEN PROMPTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. UPDATED 06/29/17*LJ UPDATED 09/21/2017*JS
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON THE CITY STREETS THE DOORS SUDDENLY UNLOCK THE LIGHTS FLICKER OFF AND BACK ON AND THE CAR JERKS AND THEN THE CAR DOES THE SAME THING AND LOCKS THE DOORS AGAIN AND THEN UNLOCKS THE DOORS AGAIN WITH THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT AGAIN AND BACK ON AGAIN JUST AS QUICKLY. IT DOES THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK OR TO RUN TO THE STORE OR WHERE EVER. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY CANNOT TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. NO CODES ARE SHOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE HAD IT TO THREE DIFFERENT GARAGES AND NO ONE CAN SEEM TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE LAST DEALER TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE AND EVERY TIME THEY GOT INTO THE CAR TO DRIVE IT TO SEE IF IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN FOR THEM IT WOULD COST ME RIGHT AROUND $130.00 EACH TIME. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. I ASKED THEM IF IT COULD BE THE IGNITION AND THEY SAID NO. I DID HAVE THE RECALL DONE ON THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT AFTER READING MANY OF THESE COMPLAINTS IT MAKES ME THINK THAT MAYBE IT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. HELP *TR
WED. DEC.21 CAR FLOODED WHEN RAINED. TOOK TO DEALER WAS TOLD OVER $4000 TO FIX. REWIRING, CARPETS RIPPED OUT AND REPLACED NEED TO BE DONE. CHECKED ONLINE. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. NO RECALLS.COULD NOT AFFORD SO PICKED CAR UP. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT AFFECTS WIRING (POTENTIAL FIRE) DOES IT NOT ALSO AFFECT BRAKES,STEERING,ETC.IS THIS NOT A HAZARD?CAR HAS LESS THAN 36,000 MLS ON IT. SEEMS TO ME TO BE A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING AS MINE IS NOT THE ONLY CAR THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. SHOULDN'T MANUFACTURER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. SO I PURCHASED A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR AND HAVE CONSTANTLY HAD TROUBLE WITH IT! HERE GOES THE LAST ONE! THE ESC MESSAGE SHOWED UP IN THE DIC WITH A MESSAGE ABOUT THE POWER STEERING! I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY STEERING ANGLE POSITION SENSOR AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES! CHEVROLET SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THAT I'M PAYING $1400 TO REPLACE THIS! I PURCHASED THE BEST EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEM THERFORE IT WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET! THE CAR IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER WHILE IN THIS STAGE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW...IT IS NOW 8 YEARS OLD...170,000 MILES ...IT IS DRIVEN IN THE NORTHERN IL AREA MCHENRY COUNTY ...I PUT ABOUT 80 MILES PER DAY ON THE UNIT...FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS MY FUEL MILEAGE HAS DROPPED FROM 26 MPG TO 22MPG...SO I TUNED UP THE UNIT AND THE MPG REMAINED THE SAME...ON 11-16-2016, I WAS DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 12 HEADED HOME ,MY RIGHT REAR TIRE SENSOR CAME ON SO I PULLED INTO A BEST BUY PARKING LOT TO CHECK THE TIRE, IT MIGHT BE GOING FLAT. AS I WAS DOWN ON THE GROUND LOOKING FOR A NAIL IN THE TIRE , I SAW A WET SPOT ON THE PAVEMENT IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE... I WENT THERE TO CHECK OUT WHAT THAT MIGHT BE AND IT WAS FRESH GASOLINE...THEN LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE I SAW A PULSATING FLOW OF GAS COMING FROM THE STEEL FUEL LINE MOUNTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR AT A PLASTIC RETAINER HOLDING 2 FUEL LINES COMING FROM THE FUEL TANK HEADED TO THE ENGINE ALONG WITH 2 BRAKE LINES...I DROVE THE HHR HOME AND INSPECTED THE FUEL LINE CAREFULLY... IT WAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THRU INSIDE THE PLASTIC LINE RETAINER...THE RETAINER SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM...IT CATCHES AND HOLDS ROAD SALT INSIDE THE RETAINER...IT TOOK 8 YEARS TO RUST COMPLETELY THRU THE FUEL LINE...A GREAT FIRE HAZARD...I'M VERY LUCKY THAT MY TIRE SENSOR MADE ME LOOK UNDER THE HHR AND SEE GASOLINE LEAKING... I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WILL NOT EXCEPT RESPONSIBLY FOR RUSTED FUEL LINES... ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY...I TOLD THEM THAT IT TOOK 8 YEARS TO RUST...THEY SAID THAT IT HAS 170,000... IT PAST ITS LIFE SPAN...IT'S 8 YEARS OLD...WHAT DO I EXPECT...I TOLD THEM THAT I EXPECT FUEL LINES TO LAST FOR EVER... IT'S THE 21 CENTURY...INTERESTING THE 2 METAL BRAKE LINES IN THE SAME RETAINER ARE IN PERFECT CONDITION...THEY SEEM TO BE POWDER COATED, SO WHY NOT THE FUEL LINES. 2 THINGS THAT WE NEED, IS TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND NO GASOLINE LEAKING ON THE PAVEMENT ...I HAVE PICTURES OF THE FUEL LINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT WANT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
THE MILEAGE IS 84475. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS, OUR POWER STEERING HAS BEEN RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF WHILE WE ARE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND ON COUNTRY LANES. IT STARTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. IF YOU PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING MAY COME BACK FOR FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP OR IT MAY JUST KEEP SHUTTING OFF. WHEN I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM, I QUICKLY FOUND MULTIPLE LINKS DOCUMENTING OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I FOUND THE FOLLOWING VIDEO ON YOUTUBE OF ANOTHER HHR DRIVER SHOWING THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE DIC DISPLAYS A WARNING "POWER STEERING" AND THE CAR BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER.
FUEL LINES IN FRONT OF DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL COMPLETELY CORRODED THRU. PARTIALLY DUE TO HEAT SHROUD, RUBBER COVERED WITH FOIL, INSTALLED DUE TO LOSE PROXIMITY TO EXHAUST PIPE. RETURN LINE STARTED LEAKING,PRESSURE LINE BROKE IN HALF DURING REMOVAL. CHEVY DISAVOWS ALL RESPONSIBILITY ALTHOUGH THE REST OF THE LINES ARE NOT RUSTED. HEAT SHROUD CONTAINED ROAD SALT, SAND AND GRAVEL WHEN REMOVED. CORROSION WAS EXFOLIATE IN NATURE. ON LINE RESEARCH SHOWS AT LEAST ONE INSTANCE OF A HHR CATCHING FIRE DUE TO THIS. PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED AFTER SMELLING FUEL AND DISCOVERING FUEL LEAKING UNDER VEHICLE. AUTHOR OF REPORT HAS BEEN WORKING ON CARS FOR 45 YEARS AND HAS HELD AN A&P CERTIFICATE FOR OVER 40 YRS. HAVE NEVER SEEN 8 YEAR OLD FUEL LINES IN THIS CONDITION. BLACK COATED BRAKE LINES RUNNING NEXT TO FUEL LINES WERE COMPLETELY UNAFFECTED. AS PREVIOUSLY STATED THERE ARE MANY TEXTS ONLINE CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, ALL RECEIVED THE SAME LACK OF CONCERN FROM GM, INCLUDING THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE.
