VEHICLE STATIONARY. NOTICED STRONG SMELL OF FUEL COMING FROM EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AND A LEAK SPOT AROUND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. MOVED THE VEHICLE TO INSURE THE SPOT AND SMELL WAS INDEED COMING FROM THE HHR. SMELL DEFINITELY COMING FROM THE HHR, NOT SURE OF THE SPOT (WAS NOT SETTING IN NEW LOCATION VERY LONG). TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CAR WASH TO CLEAN (IN CASE THE SMELL WAS DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY THE FUEL TANK WAS OVERFILLED DURING REFUELING). DROVE THE VEHICLE AS NORMAL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. NOTICED THE SMELL AND SPOT AGAIN AFTER PARKING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE SPOT WAS MUCH LARGER AND SMELL WAS MUCH STRONGER. DECIDED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FURTHER FROM THE HOUSE (FOR SAFETY REASONS) UNTIL I COULD INVESTIGATE FURTHER. MOVED THE VEHICLE TO A REMOTE DRIVEWAY. IT SAT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, WAS GOING TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DRIVE IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE, SO I COULD CHECK WORK ON IT. THE SMELL WAS VERY STRONG AND THE SPOT WAS VERY LARGE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, IT WAS OUT OF FUEL. WHEN IT WAS PREVIOUSLY MOVED TO THE REMOTE DRIVEWAY, IT HAD AT LEAST 1/4 TANK OF OF FUEL. THIS MEANS THAT ALL OF THAT FUEL WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY. I WAS GLAD I HAD MOVED IT AND THAT MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS NEVER IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I HAD BEEN DRIVING IT WEEKS EARLIER. HAD SOME FRIENDS HELP ME GET IT MOVED BACK TO WHERE I COULD WORK ON IT. FOUND THAT THE LEAK WAS SOMEWHERE ABOVE THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL UNDER A FOIL LIKE HEAT SHIELD. CHECKED ON-LINE, FOUND THERE WAS A NHTSA INVESTAGATION ON THIS ISSUE. REALLY - INVESTAGATION! THIS LEAK IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE REASON FOR THE HEAT SHIELD IN THE FIRST PLACE. REALLY GLAD MY GRANDDAUGHTER HAD NOT BEEN A PASSENGER FOR SOMETIME. FURTHER 'INVESTAGATION' ON-LINE, THIS IS VERY COMMON ISSUE ON SEVERAL MODELS, ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDWEST DUE TO SALT USE FOR SNOW REMOVAL.
GAS SMELL AND LEAKS RESULTING FROM FUEL LINE CORROSION. I OWN TWO 2009 CHEVROLET HHRS. I REPLACED FUEL LINE ON MY FIRST VEHICLE A YEAR AGO. NOW THE SECOND VEHICLE NEEDS SAME REPAIR.
REFERENCE ODI RESUME PE 20-011,CAR STORED IN A GARAGE AS A SPECIAL INTEREST VEHICLE, WHILE ACCOMPLISHING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CAR WAS IDLING AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE GARAGE. NEAR FIRE EXPERIENCE, FUEL LINE RUPTURED JUST ABOVE LEFT REAR WHEEL SPILLING ON TO HOT EXHAUST. CUT OFF ENGINE, BUT PRESSURE IN THE LINE KEPT SPRAYING ON TO HOT EXHAUST PIPE, STOOD BY WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHER UNTIL LEAK SUBSIDED .PULLED BACK INSULATION AROUND LINES OVER EXHAUST AND FOUND THE STEEL FUEL LINE RUSTED THROUGH. THERE ARE SEVERAL REPAIR OPTIONS, A GM SHOP CHARGES OVER $1100.00, REPALCEMENT KITS RANGE FROM $95.00 UP TO NEARLY $600.00
I HAVE FUEL LEAKING FROM A FUEL LINE IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND SEE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS. WHAT IS RECOMMENDED AS A REPAIR???
WENT TO MY DAD'S. PARKED IN GARAGE. MY NIECE LATER COMMENTED SHE SMELLED GAS. WE CHECKED FURNACE, THEN WENT OUT TO GARAGE TO CHECK THE CAR. WE FOUND A SIZEABLE PUDDLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN FRONT OF THE LEFT SIDE REAR WHEEL. I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE. LATER WE NOTICED A SOFTBALL SIZED PUDDLE UNDER MY CAR. LATER I CONTACTED A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY COBALTS AND HHRS, THAT I SHOULD HAVE IT TOWED AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD I DRIVE IT AS HE COULDN'T GUARANTEE I WOULD HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN. WHEN WE NOTICED THE FUEL WAS LEAKING, THE CAR WAS PARKED.
FOR SOMETIME I SMELLED GAS EVERY TIME I PARKED IN THE GARAGE. ONE DAY MY SON SMELLED THE GAS AND NOTICED A WET SPOT BY THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND A FUEL LEAK.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2020, I WAS AT MY DAD'S. MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. MY NIECE CAME UP SAYING SHE SMELLED GAS AND WAS CONCERNED. WHEN WE COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE IN THE HOUSE, I SAID MAYBE IT WAS MY CAR. WE WENT OUT TO THE GARAGE AND NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE ON THE LEFT SIDE (DRIVER'S SIDE) IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. I MOVED THE CAR OUT TO THE DRIVEWAY AND WE COULD SEE WITHIN SECONDS IT HAD LEFT A PUDDLE THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL. I LEFT AND DROVE HOME 30 MINUTES LATER. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO CASSIDY TIRE LATER THAT WEEK. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE LEAK, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS PRETTY FREAKED OUT AND TOLD ME MY CAR WAS LEAKING GAS. WE CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE MENTIONED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET COBALTS AND HHRS. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT DRIVE THE CAR WHEREVER I TAKE IT AS I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN. I'VE BEEN OUT TO THE CAR A FEW TIMES AND THE SMELL OF FUEL IS NOTICEABLE. AFTER GOOGLING THE ISSUE AND FINDING AN ABC NEWS REPORT FROM JULY 2020 AND ANOTHER ARTICLE ABOUT A POTENTIAL RECALL AND AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE ISSUE, I CALLED A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO MENTION THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR IT ON MY VIN AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM FOR REPAIR AND WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. WHAT CAUSED THE LEAK? I CAN ONLY GUESS THAT IT IS THE CORROSION OF THE METAL? I DON'T KNOW THAT I EVER NOTICED THE SMELL OF GAS BEFORE THE 10TH. I DID TAKE IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE LATE MARCH, EARLY APRIL AND NO ONE MENTIONED AN ISSUE WITH FUEL LEAKING OR THE SMELL OF GAS. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE LIKE THIS.
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT REMAINS LOCKED. SOMETIMES IT WILL WORK IF YOU ADJUST IT UP AND DOWN BUT OTHER TIMES IT WON'T WORK AT ALL. I HAD TO HAVE MY PASSENGER RIDE IN THE BACK TODAY SO THAT SHE COULD USE A SEATBELT BECAUSE THE FRONT ONE REFUSED TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED BUT RUNNING. STANDARD TRANSMISSION. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS MOVING.
THE FUEL LINE ON MY CHEVROLET HHR 2009 RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $1300.00. THE INSULATED COVERING AROUND THE FUEL LINE CAUSED THE RUSTING BECAUSE IT RETAINED WATER. SMELLED GAS WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY.
THE FUEL LINES UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR HAVE ROTTED. THEY ARE DRIPPING GAS. IT IS HAPPENING RIGHT WHERE THE BRACKET HOLDS THE LINES.
FUEL LINES RUSTED BY DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE AND UNDER DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR. FUEL LEAKING UNDER CAR WHEN STOPPED AND UNDERWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL SMELL OF FUEL EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING FUEL ONTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND BY THE REAR WHEEL. THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000. *AS

BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN TO BE ON AS PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED AND ESC, TRACTION CONTROL DO NOT WORK ALSO THIS IS A HAZARD TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE HAD ROAD RAGE AGAINST ME BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED THROUGH GM AS A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES THIS IS NOT THE ONLY 2009 CHEVY HHR THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM
FUEL LEAKS FROM RUSTING FUEL LINE AT PLASTIC RETAINER CLIP JUST FORWARD OF LEFT REAR WHEEL. LEAVES A PUDDLE AFTER BEING PARKED AND DRIPS CONTINUOUSLY WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING. ATTACHED PHOTOS TAKEN WITH VEHICLE IDLING ON RAMPS IN DRIVEWAY SHOW FUEL STREAMING FROM AREA OF FUEL LINES AND PUDDLE FORMED AFTER ABOUT 1 MINUTE OF IDLING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR PRESENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK NEAR THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALMART FOR TIRE MAINTENANCE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH FUEL LINES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED BILL WALSH GM SUPERSTORE LOCATED AT 1752 E NORRIS DR, OTTAWA, IL 61350, (877) 289-9257 AND NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,499.
II PURCHASED A BEUTIFUL 2009 HHR FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP, IN MAY OF 2020, AN IN JULY F 2020, IT WOULD BARELY SPEED UP, THE GEARS, WOULDN'T SHIFT ON ME AND I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT I HAD NOT ONLY BEEN OPERATING A "DEFECTED" VEHICE BUT THE CAR DEALER FAIED TO MENTION HE WAS SELLING ME A "RECALLED" CAR, (A NEIGHBOR INFORMED ME) I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY SON'S HOUSE,BECAUSE I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING BACKWARDSI AND IT ONLY GOES IN REVERSE NOW. LONGER GO
STEEL FUEL LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND GUSHES GASOLINE AT THE WELL-KNOWN AREA OF DRIVER-SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL FROM INSIDE THE PROTECTIVE HEAT SHIELD. SEEMS TO BE AN OVERLY COMMON ISSUE FOR HHRS AND THIS DESIGN OF THE FUEL LINE SYSTEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LEAKED FUEL UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, IN FRONT OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE CONTACT CALLED MATTHEWS-HARGREAVES CHEVROLET (2000 TWELVE MILE RD, ROYAL OAK, MI 48067) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A REPAIR KIT ONLINE FOR SALE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED USING THE REPAIR KIT, THE WARRANTY WOULD BE VOIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 210,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING UP THE DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS AN ABNORMALLY STRONG FUEL ODOR ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND BECAME AWARE OF A LEAK FROM A RUSTED FUEL LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,200.
TRIED TO HAVE AN ALIGNMENT DONE AND WAS TOLD I HAVE A SUBSTANTIAL FUEL LEAK. I'M DUMPING FUEL FROM TWO POINTS, ONE OF WHICH IS OVER THE HEAT SHIELD FOR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. IT'S A STEEL GAS LINE, IF THERE'S ONE THING WE KNOW ABOUT STEEL, IT RUSTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MIXED WITH SALT-I LIVE IN MICHIGAN. YOU'D THINK A FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM WOULD BE BETTER DESIGNED.
RUSTY FUEL LINES. CORROSION OCCURS IN EVERY CONNECTION TO UNDERBODY AND BACK PART WHERE FUEL LINES ARE COVERED WITH HEAT RESISTANT MATERIAL. RUST IS SO BIG THAT FUEL LINES START LEAKING FUEL EXCESSIVELY AND VERY CLOSE TO EXHAUST PIPE(EXTREMELY HOT) WHAT MAY CAUSE FIRE. FIRST YOU SMELL FUEL, THEN IT STARTS DRIPPING AND FINALLY YOU HAVE A MAJOR LEAK AND ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE. IT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT CAN STOP YOUR CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE OR CAN START A FIRE OF FUEL IN THE POINT THAT IS VERY CLOSE TO FUEL TANK WHAT MAY CAUSE MAJOR FIRE OR EXPLOSION.
SMELL OF GAS ,ENGINE RUNNING . CHECK CAR AND THERE IS A FUEL LEAK BY THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AT FUEL LINES RIGHT ABOVE EXHAUST PIPE. FUEL LEAKING ON THE EXHAUST. THIS RIGHT AT FUEL LINE RETAINER . THEIR IS A HEAT SHIELD ON THE LINES . THIS FULL OF GRAVEL ANS DEBRIS, LINES ARE RUSTED AND LEAKING , THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS,RESULT COULD BE A FIRE! FUEL PUDDLED ON GROUND
I SEE THERE HAS BEEN COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FUEL LINES ON THE HHR VEHICLES. WE JUST HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WE JUST SPENT $617.80 TO GET IT FIXED. I DON'T THINK THE SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. MY WIFE FIRST NOTICED IT WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. SHE TOLD ME SHE COULD SMELL GAS. A FEW DAYS LATER WE NOTICED A SPOT ON OUR ASPHALT DRIVEWAY WHERE IT LEAKING. IT STARTED TO EAT AWAY OUR ASPHALT. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS AND WE CAN GET REIMBURSED FOR THE PROBLEM.
FUEL WAS LEAKING AND PUDDLING ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR TIRE. AFTER STARTING OR RUNNING THE ENGINE. WOULD LEAK FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER TURNING OFF ENGINE. COULD SMELL FUEL WHILE DRIVING.
Heavily leaking fuel line. Read over 600,00 vehicles affected by this! Why the heck has there not been a recall?!!
DROVE TO LOCAL CITY FACILITY PULLING SMALL TRAILER FULL OF GRASS CLIPPINGS AND TREE BRANCHES. WHILE UNLOADING TRAILER, I STARTED SMELLING A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR AT THE REAR OF THE CAR, BUT COULD NOT FIND SOURCE. AFTER ARRIVING BACK HOME AND UNHOOKING TRAILER, GASOLINE ODOR WAS STRONG AGAIN, BUT STILL NO SOURCE. AFTER CAR SAT FOR 30-45 MINUTES, A DRIP WAS NOTICED IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. UPON INSPECTION, THE GASOLINE DRIP WAS ORIGINATING FROM THE PLASTIC SHIELD WHICH CONTAINS THE GASOLINE FEED LINE, FUEL RETURN LINE, AND BRAKE LINE. THIS SHIELD IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE FRAME AND THE MUFFLER. WHEN I CALLED A TOWING SERVICE TO TOW MY CAR TO A LOCAL GARAGE, THE TOWING SERVICE ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAD JUST FIXED ANOTHER HHR FOR A GAS LEAK AT THE SAME PLACE ON THE CAR. THEY NOTED IT WAS QUITE COMMON FOR THE STEEL GAS LINE TO CORRODE INSIDE THIS SHIELDING. THE GARAGE THAT ACTUALLY DID THE WORK ON MY CAR NOTED THE FUEL LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE ENGINE WAS REPAIRED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO RETURN TO THE CENTER. THE CONTACT MANUALLY RETURNED THE WHEEL BACK TO CENTER. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED AT SOUTH HAVEN CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (10159 M-140 SOUTH HAVEN MI 49090, (269)906-9558), AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS A ONE TIME FREE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
SMELLING FUEL/EXHAUST ODOR WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY WITH SUN ROOF/WINDOW OPEN. DID NOT SEE ANY LEAKING. REMOTE STARTING TOOK LONGER TO CRANK INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER A FEW MORE DAYS HAD SMALL WET SPOT ON GROUND AT LEFT REAR AND THOUGHT I HAD RUN THROUGH A PUDDLE. A FEW DAYS LATER AFTER ARRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I WENT BACK OUTSIDE AND HAD A VERY LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS AT LEFT REAR. WENT TO SERVICE CENTER THE NEXT DAY AND HAD BOTH FUEL LINES COMPLETELY REPLACED FOR A COST OF $550.00 PARTS AND LABOR.
THE VEHICLE HAS STARTED LOSING POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS INTERMITTENTLY. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, A RECALL ON THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FOR THIS 2009 HHR WAS FOUND. IN ADDITION, I FOUND THAT GM ISSUED A BULLETIN (14119) UNDER RECALL N140115, STATING THAT FOR MODEL YEAR 2006-2008 AND EARLY PRODUCTION 2009 HHRS, TO PROVIDE EPS MOTOR REPLACEMENT FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. SINCE I HAVE NOT HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2009, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK UP THE RECALL HISTORY AND FOUND THE EPS MOTOR WAS REPLACED ONCE ALREADY. HOWEVER, THIS LATE 2008 PRODUCTION/MID-2009 DELIVERY HHR IS LOSING POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS AGAIN. WHILE MYSELF AND TEENAGE DAUGHTER HAVE DRIVEN IT ON THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP COULD GET NO DIAGNOSTIC CODE OF THIS AND HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE MOTOR REPLACEMENT. I AM VERY DISTURBED THAT THIS PROBLEM 1. GENERATES NO CODE, 2. IS BEING UNACKNOWLEDGED BY GM, AND 3. SEEMS TO BE AN ON-GOING THREAT TO SAFETY FOR MANY HHR DRIVERS. GM HAS MADE A MISTAKE IN NOT INCLUDING MY MAKE/MODEL (OR SO IT SEEMS) IN THE BULLETIN PERTAINING TO REPLACING THE EPS MOTOR FOR LIFE AND IS FAILING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES ON THE ROAD NEEDING TO BE SERVICED, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DRIVER STATES THERE IS A PROBLEM POSING A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. NOTE, THE PRODUCTION OF MY HHR BEING IN 2008, DELIVERED IN 2009 AND FAILURE BY GM TO ACKNOWLEDGE UNDER BULLETIN 14119.
COOLANT RUNNING HOT I JUST GETTING THIS CAR A WEEK AGO AND IT STARTED RUNNING HOT
WHILE DRIVING THE ESC CAME ON THEN IT SAID SERVICE ESC THEN THE CAR CUT OFF AND WOULDN'T START EVERYTHING JUST LOCKED UP WHILE ON THE ROAD
HAVE OWNED 1- 2008 & 1-2009 HHR SS WITH 2.0L TURBO CHARGER AND MANUAL 5 SPEED TRANS,AND RIGHT AT 100,000 MILES THE FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES A HORRENDOUS NOISE LIKE THE FRONT SUSPENSION IS GOING FALL OUT FROM UNDER IT WHEN HITTING SMALL BUMPS . ALSO IF YOU MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH IT WILL MAKE A VERY SIMILAR NOISE. THE 2008 GOT TOTALED FROM A LADY PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF ME HAD CHANGED THE SWAY BAR END LINKS PRIOR TO ACCIDENT MADE NO CHANGE. MEETING THE SAME MILEAGE ON THE 2009 AND ALREADY MAKING THE SAME EXACT NOISE . ALMOST AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ON THE FREEWAY FOR FEARING OF LOOSING THE STEERING AND KILLING ANYONE. I HAVE READ UP ON THIS CONCERN AND HAVE SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH SAME NOISE AND HAVE SPENT 1,000S OF DOLLARS AND NOISE STILL THERE. YOU WOULD THINK SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BEFORE THERE ARE DEATHS INVOLVED BUT EVEN THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND THE FIX. REALLY FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AT ONCE, CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL DONE YET.
WHEN I TURNED OFF MY CAR RECENTLY, I COULD SMELL GASOLINE. I COULD ALSO SMELL IT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS ON. I TOOK MY HHR TO HERITAGE CHEVROLET, AND THEY POINTED OUT THAT TWO FUEL LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND I WAS DRIVING MY CAR UNDER DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES...SOME OF THE GASOLINE WAS LEAKING CLOSE TO THE MUFFLER. MY SERVICE AGENT SAID A FIRE COULD HAVE EASILY STARTED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED MY FUEL LINES, AND THEN TOLD ME THAT HE HAS HAD TO REPLACE FUEL LINES IN OTHER CHEVY HHR'S AND CHEVY COLBALTS. AT NO TIME HAS GM EVER NOTIFIED ME THAT MY FUEL LINES CAN RUST THROUGH, AND THAT OTHER CARS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE: HHR OR COBALT. HOWEVER, THIS DANGEROUS RUSTING HAS OCCURRED IN OTHERS. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED RUSTED FUEL LINES, AND SOME HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE LINES THEMSELVES. A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. HOPEFULLY NO ONE WILL DIE IN A TRAGIC FIRE CAUSED BY GAS LEAKS. I COULD SMELL THE GASOLINE BOTH WHEN DRIVING (ESPECIALLY WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON, AND WHEN USING THE KEY TO TURN THE CAR OFF. HOWEVER, WHEN LOOKING UNDERNEATH THE CAR, I DID NOT DETECT GAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH, AND I BELIEVE THIS WAS A SLOW LEAK, BECAUSE MY GAS GAUGE DID NOT SHOW A DRAMATIC LOSS OF GAS. I HAVE WRITTEN A LETTER OF CONCERN TO THE CHAIRWOMAN AND CEO OF GENERAL MOTORS.
I CAN TRY TO SEND PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTATION ONCE I GET THEM FROM THE MECHANIC. FUEL LINES RUSTED CREATING LEAKS. HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS NOTING THE DESIGN AND MATERIALS TO BE THE CAUSE. MY VEHICLE JUST HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT. I AM 69 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN IN ANY VEHICLE NTHAT I HAVE OWNED INCLUDING VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD OVER 140,000 MILES ON THEM. THE DANGER THIS FAULTLY DESIGN HAS CREATED FOR CAR OWNERS AS WELL AS OTHERS DRIVERS IN THEIR PROXIMITY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED NOW. I AM DISABED AND HAVE CARRIED OXYGEN TANKS IN MY CAR AND WILL NEED TO IN THE FUTURE INCREASING THE DANGER BY THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A SAGETYHAZARD TO EVERY HHR OWNER AND NEARBY TRAFFIC. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GM IS NOT CORRECTING THIS BEFORE THERE ARE TRAGEDIES WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE THAT THE PROBLEM IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY SHOULD BE COVERING THE COSTLY REPAIR OF THE DANGEROUS FLAW IN THEIR DESIGN.
CHEVROLET HHR 2009, DOORS MECHANISM. DOOR LATCHES STOP WORKING AND CAN OPEN AT A TURN OR WHILE DRIVING. OR LATCH CAN LOCK YOU IN UNABLE TO GET OUT OF VEHICLE IN AN ACCIDENT AND OR EMERGENCY. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND BACK DOOR FLEW WIDE OPEN I HAD NOT OPENED IT AT ALL BUT WHEN DOORS LOCK AND OPEN THEY ALL DO SO THE BACK LATCH OPENED NEVER CLOSING UNAWARE OF THIS THE DOOR FLEW OPEN ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AT AN INTERSECTION.

AND I SLAMMED ON BRAKES I HAVE TO SEE A I HAVE TO SEE A DOCTOR NOW.

THE FUEL LINES RUSTED AND LEAKED ONTO THE FLOOR. THIS WAS IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL. IT WAS LEAKING WHILE OPERATING ON CITY ROADS AND HIGHWAY. THEN DRIPPING AFTER PARKING. I HAD THE ENTIRE FUEL LINE ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY PENSKE CHEVROLET IN INDIANAPOLIS. THIS FILLED MY GARAGE WITH FUMES
ONE MORE HHR THAT HAS A RUSTED FUEL LINE, THE CAR HAS 128XX MILES ON IT WHEN WE NOTICED A GAS SMELL. WHEN INQUIRING WHAT THE SMELL WAS I FOUND IT WAS LEAKING UNDER THE BACK DRIVE SIDE DOOR IN FRONT OF THE REAR WHEEL. I LOOKED ONLINE TO FIND THE FIX, BUT FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THIS CARS ARE LEAKING GAS DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND FAULTY PARTS. CALLED GM AND ASKED FOR HELP. THEY WERE RUDE AND SAID THE CAR IS OLD AND PAST WARRANTY. WELL I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES AND NONE OF THEM EVER LEAKED GAS. WHEN I ASKED THE REP, DO YOU KNOW WHAT GAS DOES? HE IGNORED THE QUESTION AND STARTED TO READ FORM HIS SCRIPT. SPOKE TO THE SUPERVISOR SAME THING UNWILLING TO LISTEN TO REASON AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER. ALMOST THE SAME DEAL UNDERSTANDING BUT AGAIN UNWILLING TO HELP WITH FIXING. AFTER A BATTLE. WE GAVE IN AND HAD THE DEALER FIX IT. CONVENIENTLY THE TECH CUT THE GAS LINE WHERE IT WAS LEAKING. THE BILL CAME TO $795. GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUES. THIS IS LIFE THREATENING. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS AND MAKE IT RIGHT.THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON AIR BAGS, WELL WHAT GOOD ARE THE AIR BAGS IF THE CAR BLOWS UP.

IN REGARD TO THE FUEL LINE INVESTIGATION OF THE 2008-2009 CHEVY HHR, IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR A LOCAL FIREMAN AND POLICE WE COULD HAVE HAD A REAL PROBLEM. THE FIREMAN WAS BEHIND ME AND SMELLED GASOLINE SO HE SIGNALED ME TO PULL OVER WHICH I DID, BY THAT TIME HE HAD CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND A PUMPER SHOWED UP, FUEL WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR, A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND IT WAS TAKEN TO WEBER CHEVROLET IN COLUMBIA ILLINOIS OUR KIDS HAD TO COME AND PICK US UP AND WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAID THE TOW TRUCK FEE BUT SINCE IT WAS THE WEEKEND WE LEFT THE CAR ON THE PARKING LOT ALONG WITH A PILE OF OIL SOAK. BETWEEN TOWING AND REPAIRS IT WAS ALMOST $1000.00! (WHICH WE HAD TO BORROW AND PAY BACK)
I WAS NOTICING WHEN I EXITED THE CAR A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. UPON LOOKING UNDER THE CAR I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FUEL UNDER THE CAR AND IT IS CONSTANTLY DRIPPING. THE CAR HAS 90,000 MILES AND I STILL OWE MONEY ON IT!

FUEL LINE BEGAN TO LEAK IN THE FALL OF 2018. I HAD A LOCAL SHOP REPAIR THE ISSUE FOR $339.99 + 6% SALES TAX FOR A TOTAL OF $360.39 ON 10/24/2018

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE AND TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
THE FUEL LINES ARE LEAKING NEAR THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. UPON INSPECTION BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BOTH LINES ARE LEAKING. FROM EXPERIENCE AFTER CHANGING NUMEROUS THIS IS A FLAW WITH BOTH GM'S DESIGN AS WELL AS PARTS CHOICE. THE LINES ARE RUN CLOSE TO EXHAUST SYSTEMS. TO PREVENT POTENTIAL PROBLEMS GM WRAPPER THE LINES IN HEAT INSULATION FABRIC. THIS FABRIC IS HOLDING MOISTURE WHEN IT GETS DAMP PROMOTING ACCELERATED RUST ISSUES. GAS LINE MATERIAL ITSELF APPEARS TO BE MILD STEEL AND NOT STAINLESS. SO THE DESIGN WAS BAD WHEN FUEL LINES WERE RUN IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO EXHAUST SYSTEMS AND SUB-PAR MATERIALS WERE USED. THOUSANDS OF EXAMPLES OF THIS PROBLEM ARE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET, GOOGLING "HHR FUEL LINE LEAK PROBLEM REAR TIRE" RETURNS 549,000 RESULTS.
