STEERING COLUM IN MY CAR HAS A CLUNK/VIBRATOIN. THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS REPLACED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM , BUT LATER THE NOISE RETURNED AFTER THE 36000 WARRANTY WAS OVER. NOW DEALER TELLS ME THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PAID FOR WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR.ALSO THE CAR IS HAVING TRANMISSION PROBLEMS, STILL WAITING TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM.... HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON THEN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I AM GOING TO LEAVE WITH THE DEALER AND HAVE THE SERVICE MGR DRIVE, BUT NOT A LOT OF HOPE IN THIS.*AK
MY 2000 IMPALA HAS A SEVERE CLUNKING WHEN I MAKE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HAND TURNS. TOOK IT TO DEE'S CHEVROLET IN BILOXI, MS AND HAD NO SUCCESS IN GETTING MY PROBLEMS CORRECTED. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY DIDN'T FIX IT. COMPLAINT NUMBER TWO, IS THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONING CONTROLS GET VERY, VERY HOT WHEN TAKING SHORT TO LONG ROAD TRIPS. IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THE AC WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY ALL THE TIME. IT WILL HAVE TO COOL DOWN, THEN IT WILL WORK. AND THEY STILL WOULDN'T FIX IT. AGAIN,THEY WANTED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM TO FIX IT. YOU JUST CAN'T DRIVE IT AROUND TOWN TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. *JB
CLUNKING & POPPING SOUND IN STEERING (INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT) AND RACK AND PINION. TOOK CAR TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS SO I'M TAKING THIS VEHICLE BACK. SPOKE TO SERVICE DEPT. AND STATED ANOTHER MECHANIC SUGGESTED IT WAS THE STEERING SHAFT. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO CHECK THE CAR AGAIN MONDAY. MY CONCERN IS THAT OTHERS MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE I SEE NUMEROUS ENTRIES ON THE WEBSITE (WWW.IMPALAHQ.COM). SHOULD THIS BE AN ITEM OF CONCERN TO GM SINCE IT CAUSES YOU TO LOOSE STEERING CONTROL. AT HIGH SPEEDS CAR WANDERS. AT LOW SPEEDS, FEEL EVERY BUMP THROUGH STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AND I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO LOSE STEERING LIKE OTHERS INCLUDING POLICE CARS HAVE. CHEVROLET SAYS THEY WANT TO LUBE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FIRST, BUT COMPLAINTS INDICATE THIS HAS NOT WORKED FOR THEIR SAME EXACT CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I WANT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED BECAUSE I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. SOME STATE THEY ARE ON THE THIRD SHAFT AND STILL NO HELP WITH THE STEERING. IMPALA 2000. *PH
FAILURE OF RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HUB AND BEARING ON MY IMPALA 2000 AFTER ONLY 37000 MILES.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS FAILED. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING TRANSMISSION WILL LOCK UP, LOCKING THE REAR TIRES, AND IT WILL BE HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WILL BE FORCED TO PULL OVER. *AK
THE PROBLEM IM NOTICING IS THAT MY CAR HAS DEXCOOL IN IT. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS THAT MY CAR RUNS A LITTLE HOTTER THAN NORMAL. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE COOLANT RESIVOIR LOOKS ALL CORRODED. IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THIS COOLANT IN THE RESIVOIR IT LOOKS REALLY CLUMPY AND SEEMS TO HAVE SOME RUST IN IT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2000 . IT'S A 2000 CHEVY IMPALA. AND THE BAD THING ABOUT IT IS THAT CHEVY STANDS BY THIS COOLANT SAYING" IT'S GOOD FOR 115,000 OR SO OR 3 YEARS." I TOTALLY DISAGREE. I HAVE DID MY OWN RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER AND FOUND THAT THERE IS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING TO PAY BIG$$$ TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE THAT ARE CAUSED BY THIS COOLANT CORRODING INSIDE THE ENGINE. CHEVY SHOULD RECALL THIS JUNK, SUCK UP ANY REPAIR COST. I NEED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ADDRESSED.
2000 IMPALA LS HAD ALIGNMENT DONE @35,000 MILES. NOTICED UNEVEN WEAR ON LEFT FRONT TIRE ~43,000 MILES. TOOK BACK TO DEALER, THEY SAID TO REPLACE TIRES AND THEY WOULD REALIGN IT. REPLACED TIRES ~ 47,000 MILES, TOOK BACK IN AND TURNED OUT THE LEFT FRONT TIE ROD WAS BAD THEY CAN'T ALIGN IT. TIRES HAS ABOUT 1/2 OF PLAY IN IT, RECOMMENDED NOT TO BE DRIVEN UNTIL FIXED.*AK
DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK BY KEY OR ELECTRICAL DEVICE. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED LATCH ASSEMBLY. *AK PH *JB
PERIODICALLY THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. THE LIGHT HAS STAYED ON FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT. THE OWNER MANUAL STATES THAT THIS INDICATES A FAILURE IN THE AIR BAG, WHICH MAY DEPLOY PREMATURELY OR NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT NO FAILURE CODE WAS FOUND.*AK*TS

WHY, AFTER GIVING THIS CAR ALL THE LOVING CARE NECESSARY,EVERY 3000 MI. CHECK UPS, AND TAKING IT IN LAST WEEK FOR SERVICE, THE SERVICE WRITER SUGGESTED THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE FLUSHED OUT. SO I SAID OK,AND HE SAID IT WAS OK, NOW WHY TWO DAYS LATER THE TRANNY GOES OUT TO THE TUNE OF $3,000. NOW I HAVE BEEN A CHEVY OWNER FOR OVER 50 YEARS AND OWNED A FLEET OF VANS FOR MY BUSINESS, IN ALL THAT TIME I NEVER LOST A TRANSMISSION THIS IS VERY COSTLY AND TO SAY THE LEAST I AM UNHAPPY. THIS CHEVY IS ABOUT TO TURN INTO A FORD. THANK YOU, PLEASE RESPOND.
YOUMANS CHEVROLET INSTALLED INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AT COST OF $277 AND NOW THERE ARE MORE NOISES IN FRONT END WHEN CAR IS STOPPED OR STARTED. DEALER SAYS HE HAS DONE ALL HE CAN DO, BUT PROBLEM WORSE THAN BEFORE. *JB
CLUNKING SOUND IN STEERING AND RACK AND PINION. TOOK CAR TO CENTURY CHEVROLET IN WATSONVILLE CA AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. TOOK TO ANDERSON CHEVROLET IN CUPERTINO IN CA AND THEY REPLACED RACK AND PINION. THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM OF CLUNKING SOUNDS OVER BUMPS AND WHILE TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. AT HIGH SPEEDS CAR WANDERS. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AND I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO LOSE STEERING LIKE OTHERS INCLUDING POLICE CARS HAVE. NOW CENTURY CHEVROLET SAYS THEY WANT TO LUBE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, BUT NHTSA COMPLAINTS INDICATE THIS HAS NOT WORKED FOR THEIR SAME EXACT CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I WANT MY CAR FIXED BEFORE IT RUNS OUT AND I AM TIRED OF GETTING THE RUN AROUND IN THE MEAN TIME. INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS WENT COSTING OVER $600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE AT LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, ASSUMED THIS WAS JUST A SLIGHT PROBLEM BUT I SEE IT HAPPENING TO A LOT OF IMPALAS... I KNOW THERE'S BEEN A RECALL BUT NOT ON THE 3.4'S SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SINCE CHEVY KNOWS THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM HERE... *LA

WHILE DRIVING OIL LEAKED FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAKED TWICE WITHIN 50,000. *NLM *CB *JB
POWER STEERING RACK, PUMP, GEAR AND SHAFT REPLACED AT 72,000 MILES. THERE ARE NO POWER STEERING AND NO LEAKS JUST TOO NEW OF A CAR TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THAT. *LA
WHEN THE VEHICLE MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THE RACK AND PINION MADE A RATTLING NOISE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. *NLM
I WAS DRIVING INTO THE PARKING LOT OF MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. I WAS GOING SLOWLY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED TO A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND, I COULD NOT STOP. I CRASHED INTO A CYCLONE FENCE, 2 CENTRAL A/C UNITS, WENT DOWN A HILL AND NEARLY CRASHED INTO 2 POLES . I FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR BY HOLDING THE BRAKES AND SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. *NM

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS INDICATING EGR VALVE PROBLEM. HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES. WORSE IN THE COLD WEATHER THAN IN SUMMER. ALSO, CHECK COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON LONG TRIPS, THEN WENT OFF. HAD TO SPEND $800 TO REPLACE COVER. *NLM

THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED, HOWEVER THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AT FAIRWAY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHICH INCLUDED A SIMILAR PROBLEM OVER A YEAR AGO THAT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WAS FOR A CRACKED COOLANT CONTAINER AFTER I NOTICED THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON MY MESSAGE CENTER. THIS SAME PROBLEM IS WHAT BROUGHT ME IN FOR MY RECENT VISIT. I WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY THIS LIGHT WAS COMING ON AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE ANSWER WAS $1012.70. COINCIDENTALLY, THIS IS 3 MONTHS AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. *NLM
2000 IMPALA INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT START. SUGGESTION BY DEALERSHIP TO WAIT WITH KEY ONE 5 -20 MINUTES FOR THE SECURITY MODULE TO CLEAR THEN TRY TO START AGAIN. ALSO HAPPENING WITH 2004 IMPALA. *TR
THE FORCE REQUIRED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXCESSIVE. *MR *TS *NLM WHILE DRIVING, AS RESULT OF HIGH EFFORT STEERING IT CAUSED THE DRIVER TO EXERT MORE FORCE IN STEERING THE VEHICLE, THAN THE BODY WAS CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING. CHEVROLET HAS NOT FIXED PROBLEM AS OF YET. FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS ARE OCCURRING. *CB *JB

INADEQUATE LUBRICATION OF LOWER STEERING SHAFT OF 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA, A STEERING JOINT CAN ONLY BE LUBRICATED BY A GM KIT - PARTS AND LABOR 125.00. THIS HAS TO BE AN ENGINEERING FLAW SINCE THE USUAL LUBE JOB AT THE USUAL LUBE SHOP WOULD NEVER KNOW THIS JOINT WOULD NEED LUBRICATION, NOR HAVE A KIT ON HAND. *JB
A/C EMITS FOUL ODORS (MOLD/MILDEW). BRAKES PULSATE, WARNING & ABS LIGHTS COME ON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON, STALLED ONCE, UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION FROM START UP TWICE. STEERING: INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED AT 42,618 MILES; RACK & PINION LEAKING AT 65,307 POPPING & MUFFLED EXPLOSION SOUND IN COLD WEATHER START UPS, PAINT PEELED OFF FRONT & BUMPER OF CAR. WEATHER STRIPPING ADHESIVE LIQUIFIES ON DOOR POSTS IN HOT WEATHER. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON
LOW COOLANT LIGHT ON OUR 2000 IMPALA WAS COMING ON AND THE LOWER INTAKE WAS FOUND TO BE LEAKING - COST $600 TO REPAIR. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON OUR 2003 IMPALA FOR THIS CONDITION. REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR OUR 2000 IMPALA REPAIR AND WAS DENIED.*AK

REGARDING 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS VIN [XXX]. MY LOCAL DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG FOR A CONSIDERABLE FEE. I BELIEVE PER RECALL #00V371000 THAT THIS SHOULD FALL UNDER THIS RECALL AS IT IS EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE RECALLED AIRBAGS, HOWEVER GM HAS NOT MARKED THIS CAR FOR RECALL, AND REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. THE DEALERSHIP DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM AS, "CODE B0041 LH FRT SIDE DEPLOYMENT LOOP OPEN. NEEDS LH SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REPLACED." THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE TIRES.*JB
REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIIP THAT THER AIR BAG LIGHT DISPLAYS ON AND OFF DURING DRIVING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RAN IT THROUGH A SCANNING MACHINE AND FOUND THE AIR BAG DEFECTIVE. THEY SAID IT COULD PREMATURELY DEPLOY DURING DRIVING OR BE DISABLED DURING AN ACCIDENT. ALL AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE REACHING 17,669 MILES. I HAD IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY THE FIRST TIME AND HAVE PAID FOR IT TO BE REPLACED AFTER THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY RAN OUT. THE SHAFT CONTINUES TO MAKE CRACKING NOISES WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PART DEFECT SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE ONLINE HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE HAD THE SHAFT REPLACED THREE TIMES AND IT LAST ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE IT STARTS TO MAKE A CRACKING NOISE. THE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR IS A DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE HAD THE REGULATOR REPLACED FOR ALL FOUR WINDOWS AND NOW I AM STARTING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE REGULATORS AGAIN FOR ALL FOUR WINDOWS. THE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT IS EXPENSIVE ($400+ FOR EACH WINDOW). *TR
POWER STEERING RACK - THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. DEALER FOUND OUT THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS TOO IMMATURE FOR THIS COMPONENT TO FAIL AT THIS AGE OF THE CAR.
PLASTIC UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD WARPED, ALLOWING COOLANT TO LEAK (SUPPOSEDLY NOT INTO ENGINE). I BELIEVE A RECALL EXISTS FOR THE 3.8 LITER "GENERATION II" ENGINE IN OTHER APPLICATIONS, BUT NOT IN THE 2000 (AND LATER) CHEVROLET IMPALA. REPAIR WAS MADE AT MY EXPENSE (OUTSIDE WARRANTY PERIOD), BUT I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN GM'S RECALL.
CONSUMER STATES EACH TIME SHE DRIVES HER AUTO SHE HEARS A KNOCKING NOISE. CONSUMER TOOK AUTO TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, TWICE SHE WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE NOISE, AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AUTO. THE THIRD TIME THEY HEARD THE KNOCKING AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS HER STEERING SHAFT. SHE STATES THAT THIS NOISE STARTS WHILE SHE IS TURNING HER AUTO RIGHT OR LEFT, OR EVEN PARKING.*JB
NAR 04/10/2003 SINCE THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS HAS OCCURRED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES ON WITH OUT ANY NOTICE OF PROBLEMS , THE VEHICLE WOULD FREQUENTLY CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE OF A BARE WIRE DETACHMENT. THE ALARM SYSTEM INSTALLED BY CHEVROLET HAD TO BE REMOVED BECAUSE IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE CAR HAS MET ALL THE STANDARDS TO BE DETERMINED A LEMON. AND REQUESTING THAT HER CAR BE REPLACED AT NO COST. * CB

AIR BAG READINESS LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS BROUGHT FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT?S A LOOSE WIRE. OKAY FOR A MONTH. NOW COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. REPORTED TO GM, INCIDENT#1-114736540. WAS TOLD NO OTHER PERSON HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, TO TAKE FOR SERVICE AGAIN, IT COULD BE A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND WAS TOLD AS LONG AS THE CAR ISN'T STALLING, PROBABLY IT?S JUST A LOOSE WIRE AGAIN. EMAILED GM AGAIN AND TOLD THAT THEY APOLOGIZE FOR ANY CONCERNS, BUT ARE UNABLE LOCATE A PREVIOUS REQUEST, OR CREATE A NEW ONE WITH THE INFORMATION I PROVIDED. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS RESPONSE. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THIS INDICATOR LIGHT CHECKS ,THE AIR BAG SYSTEM: THE ELECTRICAL, THE AIR BAG MODULE, THE AIR BAG SENSORS,THE WIRING AND CRASH SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE. THAT THE BAG COULD GO OFF WITHOUT A CRASH, OR MIGHT NOT GO OFF IN A CRASH. TO ME THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I KNOW 2 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *LA
LTR RE DEFECTIVE STEERING SYSTEM IN NUMEROUS AUTOMOBILES ESPECIALLY THE 2000 CHEVY IMPALA WHICH CAUSED HAND AND FINGER DEFORMALTIES TO THE CONSUMER. *TS *JB THE CONSUMER PURCHASED A 2000 VEHICLE AND STATED THAT HE WATCHED HIS FINGERS BECOME BENT AND TWISTED AS A RESULT OF STEERING. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SIDE VIEW MIRROR HEIGHT OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OF THE ON-COMING TRAFFIC. *TC *SC
PASSENGER HEATED SEAT CREATED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE (NO FLAMES) ABOUT 30 MINUTES INTO TRIP. SEAT TOGGLE WAS SET AT "LOW". LEATHER WAS CHARRED, FOAM SEAT PADDING MELTED IN HOTTEST AREA OF THE BURN, PERSONAL PROPERTY ON THE SEAT WAS DESTROYED. VEHICLE STARTS ONE TIME DAILY AS OWNERS MANUAL STATES ON STARTING VEHICLE. THERE AFTER IT REQUIRES TWO TO FOUR EFFORTS TO START THE CAR WITH MULTIPLE CRANKS OF THE ENGINE. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL START THE FIRST TIME, AFTER THE CAR HAS FIRST BEEN STARTED, BUT MORE OFTEN IT WILL NOT. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY ENGINE CODES BUT ADVISED ME THAT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE WAS LOOSE AND THEREFORE NOT COMMUNICATING TO THE COMPUTER PROPERLY. VEHICLE DRIVEN FROM DEALERSHIP, STOPPED, AND THIRTY MINUTES LATER IN TRYING TO START, IT TOOK TWO CRANKS OF THE IGNITION. WENT BACK TO DEALER WHO THEN ADVISED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING IN OTHER CHEVROLET MODELS. ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT GM TO SEE OF A FIX AND ADVISE ME. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS ON NO RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER, WENT BACK AND WAS TOLD THIS TIME THAT GM WOULD HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A FIX OR SOMETHING. BUT KEEP CHECKING WITH THEM. I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET MY QUESTIONAIRE ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OF REPAIRS.
PASSLOCK SYSTEM FAILURE 3 TIMES IN 100,000 MILES $300 REPAIR EACH TIME. STRANDED IN PARKING LOTS TILL THE CAR RESETS THEN WILL START.
