BODY CONTROL MODULE, PASS LOCK SENSOR, IGNITION SWITCH. WILL NOT ALLOW CAR TO START CORRECTLY OFTEN NOT AT ALL. IF RESEARCH IS DONE THERE IS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON GM VEHICLES WITH THIS SYSTEM HAVING THE SAME RECURRING PROBLEM. GM REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY HAD A INJURY CAUSED BY THIS PROBLEM BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR AN INJURY IS THERE. IF I CAN NOT START MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM IT CAN AND HAS LEFT ME IN A POSITION THAT IS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS. *TR
PASSLOCK 2 SYSTEM FAILS. VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AND CAN NOT BE RESTARTED FOR 15 MINUTES. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING OR PARKED. IF IT KEEPS HAPPENING WHEN DRIVING, IT WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS, IF NOT FATAL, ACCIDENT. THIS THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM FAILS 2-3 TIMES PER WEEK. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE LOCK CYLINDER, WHICH IS ABOUT $500 AND ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEALER. THIS SOLUTION DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK THOUGH. I HAVE HAD MINE REPLACED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR AND IT NEEDS IT AGAIN. GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND RECALL IT AND FIX IT RIGHT. 2000 CHEVY IMPALA 3.8L PASSLOCK SECURITY LIGHT ISSUE. MY CAR WILL NOT START B/C IT THINKS IT'S BEING STOLEN AND IT DISABLES THE CAR FROM STARTING. *TR
I CURRENTLY DRIVE A 2000 CHEVY IMPALA. MY CAR FAILS TO START BECAUSE OF THE PASSLOCK FEATURE. IT HAS HAPPEN 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. THE MOST RECENT TIME OCCURRED WHILE I WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. LUCKILY I WAS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET BLOCKS AWAY FROM MY HOME AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, FOR NO REASON AT ALL, MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA JUST DIES ON ME. IT LOCKS UP AND WON'T RESTART FOR 30 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENS 3 OR 4 TIMES PER WEEK. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ROAD CONDITIONS. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE LAST 30 DAYS. THE TURNING SIGNALS ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE NOW HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS AS A RESULT. A SIMPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THIS IS NOT A UNUSUAL PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. JUST PASSING THIS ALONG IN CASE ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY IMPALA AND THE TURN SIGNALS FLASHER STOPS WORKING EVERY NOW AND THEN AND I FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TO PUSH THE HAZARD SWITCH A FEW TIMES TO GET THE SIGNALS TO START WORKING AGAIN. IT IS VERY HARD TO TELL WHEN THE SIGNALS STOP FLASHING BECAUSE THE LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND TURNING WITHOUT A SIGNAL IS NOT ONLY GOING TO GET ME A TICKET BUT IT'S DANGEROUS. I ALSO READ THAT CHEVY HAD TO DO A RECALL ON THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM ON THE MALIBU BUT HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE IMPALA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECURITY LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE. SHE BELIEVES THAT THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL AT TIMES OR NOT CRANK AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND FAIL TO RESTART. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY AND ONLY THE SECURITY LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATING CONSTANTLY. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,908 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,103.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION KEPT SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEAR. ALSO THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. ALSO, THE LIGHTS FOR THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND THE TECHNICIAN LOCATED SEVERAL DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,009. TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. IT PROBABLY HAPPENED 1 OUT OF 10 TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY START WORKING AGAIN IF THE HAZARD LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON AND THEN OFF. DEALERSHIP SAID THE UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PART $74.00 INCLUDING LABOR $220.00. NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE REMEDY STATED THAT THE DEALER WILL REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE RETENTION CHANNEL AT THE FRONT OF ENGINE AND INSTALL TWO NEW SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS FOR FREE. OIL HAS ALREADY BEGUN LEAKING FROM THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE; THEREFORE, THE REMEDY WOULD BE INSUFFICIENT IN CORRECTING THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. UPDATED 07/17/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON JUNE 25TH. THE CONSUMER INSISTED THAT THE TECHNICIAN TELL HIM WHERE THE OIL LEAK WAS COMING FROM. THE OIL LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT VALVE COVER GASKET, WHICH WAS BELOW THE SPARK PLUG WIRES AND SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS. THE SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS THAT THEY REPLACED HAD NO EVIDENCE OF OIL, THEREFORE THE LEAK WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL AND DID NOT POSE A SAFETY THREAT. UPDATED 07/21/09.*JB
MY CAR IS A 2000 CHEVY IMPALA. THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH WILL NOT CHANGE THE LIGHTS FROM LOW TO HIGH. AS WE ALL KNOW SOME ROADS ARE DARKER THAN OTHERS AND HARDER TO SEE AT NIGHT. I CANT PUT MY LIGHTS ON HIGH BEAM AND 2 NIGHTS AGO I HIT A BLOWN TIRE OFF A SEMI THE DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL BUT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. I AM A GOOD DRIVER WITH OVER A MILLION MILES ACCIDENT FREE. GM NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I HAVE READ ABOUT A LOT OF THESE CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE COMPUTER CHIPS FOR THE TURN SIGNAL AND ANOTHER UNSPECIFIED COMPONENT AND WAS CHARGED $268 FOR THE REPAIRS. HE STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE ONLY HAD 60,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
5/1, 5/2--IGNITION SIMPLY CLICKED . IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED IN EACH CASE. TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP--COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. NOT THE BATTERY. 5/6, 5/8--ENGINE DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IGNITION CLICKED WHEN TRIED TO RESTART. TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP AGAIN--COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. CHRONIC--SINCE I HAVE HAD THE AUTO THE "LOW COOLANT LIGHT" SHOWS. THIS LAST TIME AT REPAIR SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT AUTO WAS LEAKING COOLANT--MOST LIKELY GASKET AND WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. *TR
MY CAR (A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA, 3.8L V6 ENGINE) REPEATEDLY DIED AS I WAS DRIVING OR STALLED. IT BECAME A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I WOULD BE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY WITH NOWHERE TO PULL OVER. I TOOK IT IN, BUT DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED NOTHING. I KEPT REPLACING PARTS, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I FELT UNSAFE DRIVING ANYWHERE AND EVEN GOT A BIKE SO I WOULDN'T BE FACING NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES EVERY TIME I DROVE. EVENTUALLY I FOUND A MESSAGE BOARD THAT SUGGESTED REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I JUST DID AND AM HOPING IT WORKS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS THOUGH, IT'S CRAZY TO HAVE TO GO YEARS WITH A FAULTY CAR AND NO ONE CAN FIND A FIX FOR IT. *TR
MY FAULTY PASSLOCK SYSTEM CAUSES CAR NOT TO RECOGNIZE THE KEY AND DISABLES THE ENGINE FOR ANYWHERE FROM 10MINUTES TO SEVERAL HOURS. SOMETIMES THE "SECURITY" LIGHT WILL APPEAR IN THE MESSAGE CENTER WHILE I'M DRIVING, BUT MOST TIMES IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I WILL PUT IN THE KEY, BUT WHEN I TURN IT, THE ENGINE IS DISABLED AND THE "SECURITY" LIGHT BLINKS. I HAVE TO WAIT 10MINUTES FOR IT TO RESTART, AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, IT JUST TRIPS ITSELF CONTINUALLY AND I'LL BE STUCK FOR 30MINUTES OR MORE. I HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED COUNTLESS TIMES IN THE HEAT, AND DREAD EVEN STOPPING FOR GAS FOR FEAR THAT MY CAR WON'T START AGAIN. IT IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM WHEN I TRAVEL OUT OF TOWN, AS I FEAR THAT IF I STOP IN A SMALL TOWN, I'LL BE COMPLETELY STRANDED IF MY CAR DOESN'T START BACK UP. TWO WEEKS AGO I DROVE OUT OF TOWN AND WENT 6 HOURS ONE WAY WITHOUT STOPPING BECAUSE THE SECURITY LIGHT WAS ON. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, AND A HAZARD TO PEOPLE'S HEALTH. IT'S ALSO DANGEROUS IF I GET A FLAT TIRE ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT WON'T START BACK UP, THEN I AM IN DANGER FOR NO REASON. I'VE ALSO WORRIED ABOUT PARKING IN A SCARIER PART OF TOWN, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO JUST DRIVE AWAY SAFELY IF I SEE SOME SHADY PEOPLE LURKING AROUND. THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS, AS THE DEALER WILL CHARGE $600 AND NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. MY 2000 IMPALA SHOULD BE RECALLED, AS THIS OBVIOUSLY FAULTY PASSLOCK SYSTEM POSES A THREAT TO HUMAN HEALTH AND SAFETY. I WILL NEVER BUY A CHEVY, GM, OR DODGE CAR AGAIN BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THAT CHEVY HAS CONTINUED TO IGNORE. THOUSANDS COMPLAIN ON CHEVY FORUMS BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. THE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS ON MY 2000 IMPALA DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE TURN SIGNALS MAY WORK ABOUT 40% OF THE TIME. WHEN THEY DO WORK THEY MAY JUST QUIT W/O WARNING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED TO OCCUR, I COULD TURN ON THE HAZARDS AND THIS WOULD JUMP START THE BLINKERS AND THEY WOULD WORK FOR A WHILE. THIS NO LONGER WORKS, BOTH THE HAZARDS AND THE TURN SIGNALS ARE INTERMITTENT. I AM NOT THE ONLY IMPALA OWNER TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM. THIS APPEAR TO BE A WIDE SPREAD DEFECT WITH THE IMPALAS. THIS PROBLEM IS SIMILAR TO THE FOLLOWING EXISTING VEHICLE RECALL FOR THE 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU... CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V327000 DATE: 2003-AUG-28 . WHY WAS THIS CONSIDERED A GREAT ENOUGH SAFETY HAZARD TO WARRANT A RECALL ON THE MALIBU BUT NOT ON THE IMPALA. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE TRAVELED FOR FIVE MINUTES IN THE VEHICLE AND UPON RETURNING TO HER RESIDENCE, SHE OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS THAT INDICATED A POTENTIAL FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THREE RECALLS FOR HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 04V090000, 01V136000 AND 04V090000). THE MANUFACTURER TOOK POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE APRIL 2009 AND HAS YET TO COMMUNICATE THE OUTCOME TO THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT CONFIRM IF ANY OF THE RECALLS APPLIED SPECIFICALLY TO VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
2000 IMPALA . LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. RACK AND PINION NEEDS REPLACING. CHECKING WITH OTHER OWNERS APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIP. APPEARS GMC CONTINUED TO USE A KNOWN DEFECTIVE UNIT FOR YEARS. WILL NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

JUST RECENTLY MY 2000 IMPALA BEGAN TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS WHEN I USED MY BLINKERS. IT FIRST BEGAN WHEN I JUST USED THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL, ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE CLUSTER CAME ON AND THE ALARM SOUND OF THE KEY BEING LEFT IN THE IGNITION WHEN THE SWITCH WOULD BE OFF, YET THE ENGINE WOULD BE RUNNING. LATER IT BEGAN TO STALL THE ENGINE. THEN LATER IT BEGAN DOING ALL OF THIS USING EITHER TURN SIGNAL. I HAVE BOUGHT EACH AND REPLACED THEM EVEN TO REPLACING THE CLUSTER AS NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND WHAT IS CAUSING ALL OF THIS. I COULD REALLY USE SOME HELP IN GETTING TO ROOT OF THIS PROBLEM. I AM A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER AND AM SCARED TO RIDE THEM IN MY CAR. THIS HAS NOW BEGAN HAPPENING EVERY TIME I USE THE TURN SIGNAL. GOOD THING I LEARNED THE HAND SIGNALS. HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE GO OUT WITH OUT WARNING, AND UNABLE TO CONTROL THE HEADLIGHT BRIGHT AND DIM FUNCTION WITH THE STEERING COLUMN CONTROL LEVER. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION WHEN TRAVELING AT NIGHT AND AN INTERNET SEARCH PULLS UP NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR IN THE 2000-2004 RANGE. SIDE AIR BAG/HEATED SEAT,CLOSED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN CAUSING A REALLY BIG BRUISE ON MY DAUGHTERS SIDE.CONTACTED THE G.M. DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND TO NOT CONTACT ANYONE ELSE. NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM.THEN ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT STARTED BURNING AND IT RUINED THE CENTER CONSOLE ,SEAT,AND CARPET. NO SENSE IN CONTACTING G.M. AGAIN BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO DIE BEFORE ANYTHING GETS DONE TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS THAT EVERYONE IS HAVING AND THAT G.M. BOUGHT 2000 CHEVY IMPALA ON FEB 8,2009,AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE REALLY BAD PROBLEMS. BAD SHAKE IN FRONT END,PULLS TO RIGHT REALLY BAD, HAS SEVEAR COOLING PROBLEMS, TURN SIGNAL FAILURE MORE THEN WORKING, GEAR SHIFT PROBLEMS, AIR BUBBLES BACKING UP IN COOLANT BOTTLE, LOW COOLANT LIGHT ALWAYS ON, CHECK ENGINE IGHT ALWAYS ON MAJOR OIL LEAKAGE UNDER CAR BODY NOT ON GROUND. LOSS OF COOLANT BUT NO IDEA WHERE ITS GOING. SERGING PROBLEM IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND WIRING CONECTIONS AND PLUGS NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING. ICNITION PROBLEMS KEY WONT STAY IN AND CAN BE PULLED OUT WITH CAR RUNNING.HAVE REPLACED RADIATOR,ALL HOSES,ALL GASKETS,THERMISTATE,WATER PUMP,BELTS,DONE TUNEUP,OIL CHANGE, DONE BRAKES,REPLACED SENCERS,BATTERY,AND OTHER THINGS. IM PISSED AND VERY ANGRY WITH CHEVY AND GM FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE WITH THERE VEHICALS AND NOT FIXING THE PROBLEMS.

2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA CAUGHT A FIRE AND TOTALED. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE AFTER THE FIRE. *NJ
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2000. HE STATED THAT THE EXTERIOR TURN SIGNALS BECAME INOPERABLE INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 88,647. UPDATED 01/12/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE HAZARD LIGHTS DID NOT WORK AS WELL. UPDATED 01/13/10
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATED: NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON BECAUSE IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. WITHIN A FEW DAYS THE AIR BAG LIGHT SHUT OFF, THEN TURNED ON AND CURRENTLY REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE IS BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THEY ALSO ADVISED HER THAT SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE WHETHER THEY FIND A REMEDY OR NOT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE IS 42,000.
I HAVE WHAT I AM CALLING THE "CLASSIC GM PASSLOCK PROBLEM" WITH MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA. IT STARTED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO VERY RANDOMLY NOT STARTING. ON NOVEMBER 28, 2008 I REPORTED A VEHICLE PROBLEM TO THE LOCAL GENERAL MOTORS DEALERSHIP. MY '2000 CHEVY IMPALA ANTI-THEFT WARNING LIGHT WAS OCCASIONALLY COMING ON AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT TIMES.' THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $812.00 TO REPLACE FAULTY PASSLOCK MODULE, NEW IGNITION SWITCH AND CYLINDER. I'M CONCERN ABOUT ALL THE WORK BEING DONE AS STATED AND CHARGED FOR FACTORY DEFECTS, MANY VEHICLE OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR GM AUTO. IN ADDITION, I DID NOT RECEIVE A NEW RECODED KEY. SECOND, THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE FAULTY PASSLOCK MODULE WAS NOT LISTED ON THE INVOICE AS AN ITEMIZED PART ORDERED AND REPLACED AS APPEAR OTHER ITEMS. THIRDLY, IF THE PART NOT LISTED ON THE INVOICE, HOW IS THE WARRANTY COVERED? I LATER LEARNED THAT THE DOOR, TRUNK AND IGNITION SHOULD BE OPERATED BY ONE KEY. AND IF PROCEDURE REQUIRES IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER TO BE REPLACED, NEW IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER SHOULD BE RECODED TO OLD KEY. ALSO, PASSLOCK SENSOR WAS AN INTEGRAL PART OF IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY, BUT I STILL PAID TOO MUCH; I AM SEEKING A FULL REFUND. *TR

I BOUGHT A 00 IMPALA 2 MONTHS AGO AND WAS DRIVING I RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC FROM MY HEART DOCTORS OFFICE WELL A SEMI ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND BECAUSE MY TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING . GM USED A PLASTIC GASKET AND IF YOU CHECK WITH ANY REPAIR SHOP/GM SERVICE GARAGE THEY WILL ALL TELL YOU THE SAME, THE PLASTIC GASKET JUST DETERIORATES, WITH ANY MILEAGE FROM 60K TO 90K AND THE COST TO REPAIR IS FROM $795 TO $995 PLUS TAX AND GARAGE SURCHARGES IE SOME CHARGE CLEAN UP AND ADD ONS SUCH AS COST OF TOWELS AND CLEANERS ETC. I WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL REPAIR PROFESSIONALS THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM THEY KNOW AS SOON AS A IMPALA ROLLS THROUGH THE DOOR, EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. ""I BELIEVE GM SHOULD TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR USING A DEFECTIVE PART AS NO OTHER VEHICLES HAVE SUCH POOR FAILURE RATE, NOR HAVE I EVER IN MY 58 YEARS OF LIVE AND OWNERSHIP OF 15 CARS/TRUCKS EVER HAD TO REPLACE AN INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET BECAUSE OF DETERIORATION. SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V116000, WHICH STATED THAT IF THE MANIFOLD IS HOT ENOUGH AND THE OIL RUNS BELOW THE HEAT SHIELD, IT MAY IGNITE INTO A SMALL FLAME AND SPREAD TO THE PLASTIC SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL AND BEYOND, INCREASING THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAKED TWICE WITHIN 45,000 MILES, HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE SERVICED TWICE FOR THIS INTAKE ISSUE, WHICH INVOLVED MISSING WORK.
