UPON ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR, NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN TURNING THE KEY. EVENTUALLY THE CAR WILL START AFTER A LONG DELAY. THIS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY OVER TIME, ALWAYS REQUIRING A LONG WAIT (AND NOTHING ELSE) BEFORE THE CAR WOULD START - RESULTING ME BEING LATE FOR WORK OR MISSING IMPORTANT MEETINGS. ON READING EXTENSIVE REPORTS OF THE VERY PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET (ON MANY GM YEARS/MODELS), I LEARNED THAT IT IS A "SAFETY" FEATURE TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM BEING STOLEN A NECESSARY COMPUTER READING OF A CHIP IN THE KEY! FURTHER READING INDICATED THAT (1) THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM (2) GM CHARGES OVER $1000 TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM (VERIFIED BY MY GM DEALER), AND (3) THE "FIX" DOESN'T WORK (THE PROBLEM CONTINUES)! EVENTUALLY THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED, BUT HAS JUST RECENTLY REAPPEARED WITH A VENGEANCE! I HAVE JUST LEARNED THAT A COMPANY MAKES A WIRING HARNESS PASSCODE BYPASS (AT $250) THAT WILL STOP THIS SITUATION OF THE CAR NOT STARTING WHEN THE KEY IS PROPERLY ENGAGED. I CAN THINK OF FEW DESIGN FLAWS THAT ARE POTENTIALLY MORE DANGEROUS (NOT TO MENTION INCONVENIENT) THAN HAVING YOUR CAR RANDOMLY REFUSING TO START - FOR INSTANCE LATE AT NIGHT IN A PARKING LOT OR GARAGE WHEN STORES ARE CLOSING OR CLOSED - OR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ESCAPE FROM A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCE FAR EXCEEDS ANY BENEFIT FROM PROTECTING YOUR CAR FROM BEING STOLEN BY USING A FAULTY PASSCODE SYSTEM. THE REMEDY WOULD BE SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE FOR GM TO FIX BY EITHER SUPPLYING NEW FIRMWARE TO BYPASS THE COMPUTER PASSCODE SYSTEM OR EVEN CHEAPER - THE WIRING HARNESS PASSCODE BYPASS CURRENTLY FOR SALE BY AN INDEPENDENT VENDOR. *TR
EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS IN MY 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA SIMILAR TO THE FOLLOWING EXISTING VEHICLE RECALL FOR THE 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU... CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V327000 DATE: 2003-AUG-28. *JB COMPONENT: EXTERIOR LIGHTING: HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS: SWITCH DEFECT SUMMARY: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES HAVE HAZARD WARNING SWITCHES THAT MAY EXPERIENCE SOLDER JOINT CRACKING CAUSED BY RAPID TEMPERATURE TRANSITIONS AND THE SOLDERING PROCESS. IF SOLDER JOINT CRACKING OCCURS AND RESULTS IN AN OPEN CIRCUIT, THE TURN SIGNALS/HAZARD LAMPS BECOME INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE. CONSEQUENCE SUMMARY: WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE INOPERATIVE, THE DRIVER CANNOT USE THEM TO SIGNAL INTENT TO TURN THAT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. ...THE RESULT IS INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE LOSS OF TURN SIGNAL OPERATION WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS LED TO INABILITY TO SIGNAL INTENT OF DRIVER DURING A TURN, LANE CHANGE, ETC. AND COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.*JB
1. I DISCOVERD I HAD A SLOW GAS LEAK IN THE GAS RETURN LINES. I HAD BEEN SMELLING GAS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BUT JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A SPILL IN THE TRUNK POSSIBLY OR SOMETHING ELSE. I NEVER SUSPECTED IT TO BE A LEAK BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SO NEW AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAD NEVER BEEN TREATED ROUGHLY. 2. I COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS AND IF IT WAS A RECALL OR NOT, IT WASN'T CLEAR. THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF I HADN'T FOUND THE LEAK. 3. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC, THEY SAID IT WAS A RECALL; THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM FIX IT. I DID THAT AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIX IT BECUASE IT WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL MECHANIC AND THEY FIXED IT FOR EXACTLY HALF THE PRICE THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WAS TRYING TO CHARGE... ANYWAY, I AM OUT OF POCKET A LOT OF MONEY FOR A RELATIVELY NEW CAR. THE RECALL ON THE WEBSITE SEEMS TO INCLUDE THE GAS HOSES BUT WHEN I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS, THEY SAID MY VIN # WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECUASE IT CLEARLY STATES THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL!
I LOOK ON HERE AND SEE A NUMBER OF THINGS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. ROLLING ON HILLS, DRIVER WINDOW SWITCH,CONSTANT BURNING OF SPARK PLUG WIRES, MY KEYLESS ENTRY NEVER WORKED, I'VE HAD ROTERS TURNED AND REPLACED NUMEROUS OF TIMES. BUT THE 2 THINGS THAT ARE BOTHERING ME ARE 2 PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR 2000 IMPALAS DON'T MATCH MY VIN # FOR THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF I'M HAVEING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THEY ARE. 1 IS THE RACK N PENION PIECE WHICH IS CAUSEING THE POPIN AND STUFF UNDER THE FRONT END THAT MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS YOU HAVE ARE AND THE SECOND IS THE INTAKE MANAFOLD GASKETS. ARE THEY JUST REPLACEING THESE 2 ITEMS ON POLICE ISSUED AND TAXIS ? AND ALSO THE HESITATION &SHUT OFF THAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IT WAS A WIREING PROBLEM THAT WAS LAYING ON MY EXUAST. I HAVE HAD TO FIX NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND DON'T MIND. BUT A SINGLE MOTHER OF 4 AND GM WHO DO YOU THINK CAN AFFORD TO FIX THINGS MORE. AND I FEAL THAT THE SHOULD FIX THERE FAULTY MATERIAL AS I HAVE FIXED MY WEAR AND TEAR. IF THAT RACK N PENION BREAKS AND I LOSSE CONTROL OF STEARING IN MY CAR MY FAMILY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND I PROMISE IT WOULD OF BEEN ALOT CHEAPER TO GO AHEAD AND FIX IT FOR EVERYONE. IT'S SAD THAT WE HAVE GOT TO GO TO LIMITS OF PUTTING ADS IN PAPER, CALLING PEOPLE, AND ALMOST A ACT OF CONGRESS TO GET ANY KIND OF HELP. HOW MANY CARS HAVE LOST CONTROL OF STEARING? (RACK N PENION) WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I EXPECT MY KEYLESS ENTRY TO WORK BECAUSE I'M IN DANGER AND COUNTED ON IT? OR MAYBE WHEN ONE OF THOSE WIRES THAT'S BURNIG UP CATCHES MY CAR ON FIRE. OUT OF 600 COMPLAINTS THE THREE MOST COMPLAINED ABOUT ITEMS RACK IN PENION, WIREING, AND THE CAR ROLLING BAKWARDS WERE YOU KEEP 1 FOOT ON THE GAS AND 1 ON THE BREAK. IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS THESE ARE SAFETY ISSUES. I WILL GLADLEY LET SOMEONE DRIVE MINE TO SEE.
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE AIR BAG LIGHTS KEEP TURNING ON, HE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY KEEP REPAIRING THE SENSOR, BUT IT WAS STILL NOT WORKING. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE NEED TO CHANGE THE AIR BAG IN HIS VEHICLE, BUT HE FELT THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE, AND THE MANUFACTURER NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT IT. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATES BOTH BACK DOOR LOCKS ON HIS VEHICLE ARE MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN THE RIGHT DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTIONED THE CONTACT THOUGHT THE DOOR UNLOCKED, WHILE LIFTING THE DOOR HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR, THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THEY STATED IT COULD BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITHIN THE DOOR. THEY DID GIVE HIM AN OPTION TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE WITHOUT THE POWER DOOR LOCKS. *THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS, SO THERE IS NO ADDRESS AVAILABLE*. *NM
DT: CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT COLLISION AT 45 MPH. UPON IMPACT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
MY CAR STALLS WHILE I AM DRIVING. I DON'T EVEN BREAK OR ANYTHING IT JUST SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY. THE FUEL REGULATOR WAS REPLACED IN THE END OF MAY 2005. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL REGULATOR, IT SEEMED OKAY FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN IT STARTED MESSING UP AGAIN. I ALSO REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND IT IS STILL STALLING.
FOR THE LAST YEAR MY SECURITY LIGHT WILL RANDOMLY COME ON. SOON AFTER..SOMETIMES HOURS, SOMETIMES DAYS...THE CAR WILL NOT START. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS A PASSLOCK SECURITY CODE PROBLEM. THE CAR THINKS IT IS GETTING STOLEN AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT 15-20 MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN. THE CODE IS EASY TO FIX BUT IT IS ALSO $395. THE ONLY PLACE THAT CAN FIX IT IS THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE DONE SOME INVESTIGATING AND MANY IMPALAS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. MY DEALER SUGGESTED I WRITE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE THEY SEE IT A LOT AND HOPEFULLY A RECALL COULD OCCUR. I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND BEING A YOUNG FEMALE IT IS SCARY WHEN I WALK OUT TO MY CAR LATE AT NIGHT OR ALONE. I HAVE FOUND CAR WEBSITE FORUMS AND MANY HAVE LISTED THIS SAME PROBLEM. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MANY PEOPLE.
RAIN WATER LEAKING IN UNDERNEATH DASH INTO PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD SOMEHOW SHORTING OUT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. HAVE HEARD OF OTHER IMPALAS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. HAS BEEN A CONTINUOS PROBLEM SINCE A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE FROM DEALER. ASKED DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE LOTS OF MONEY TO "LEAK TEST" IT BUT DENIED ANY KIND OF FACTORY DEFECT OR DESIGN FLAW. HAVE SEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND QUITE A FEW OTHER POEPLE WITH SAME CAR HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HAVENT HAD MONEY TO CORRECT PROBLEM.
DT: WITHOUT WARNING THE AUTOMATIC TRACTION SERVICE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON RIGHT BEFORE THE CALLER'S SON LOST CONTROL OF CAR AND HAD A CRASH. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER TO GET IT FIXED. AUTOMATIC TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON TWO OTHER TIMES BEFORE THE CRASH, AND WENT RIGHT OFF. ONCE WHEN CALLER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING ,AND ONCE WHEN SON WAS DRIVING. HAS NOT TALKED TO DEALER OR MANUFACTURER YET.*AK

DT: HARD TO STEER. CLUNKING, POPPING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. LAST YEAR STEERING SHAFT REPLACED (INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, 12/21/04). THEN IN JANUARY PROBLEM STARTED. FEELS LIKE POWER STEERING COMES AND GOES. *NM *NM
2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. VIN# [XXX]. CAR PURCHASED NEW. CURRENTLY WITH ONLY 21500 MILES 3.4 ENGINE. GM HAS A TSB ON THE ISSUE. REPLACEMENT = GASKET OF DIFFERENT MATERIAL. DT: WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING ROD BROKE. WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. DEALER TOLD CALLER THEY DID NOT HAVE A MECHANIC. LATER, THE DEALER TOLD CALLER WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT, AND CALLER'S FATHER SAID IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN WELDED BEFORE. MANUFACTURER STATED THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP HIM. CALLER HAS NOT GOT THE PROBLEM FIXED YET. *AK
STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED IN AUGUST 2004 BECAUSE OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) ABOUT BINDING. IN MARCH 2005 THE STEERING SHAFT BROKE IN HALF, CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL WITH STEERING OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH A NEW STEERING COIL. THE PART WAS STILL BINDING AND SLIPPING AS IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WHEN FIXED IN 2004. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS DONE IN APRIL 2005, AND CHEVROLET TOLD ME IT WAS MY BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER, AND THEY SAID MY BRAKES WERE FINE. PROBLEM NEEDED TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GOT HURT THE NEXT TIME IT BREAKS. *AK
CONSUMER'S SON WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AT 55 MPH. UPON IMPACT, THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INURIES, HOWEVER, BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOTALED.*AK
THE TURNS SIGNAL AND BRAKE LIGHT FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER STATED TURN SIGNAL AND FOUR WAY FLASHERS NEED TO BE REPLACED . *AK
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A KNOCING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DEALRSHIP WAS NOTIFED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUME STATED VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR ONE WEEK, AND UPON GETTING BACK FROM VACATION, CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND IT BLEW UP. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD WAS BROKEN IN LITTLE PIECES. CONTACTED THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. *AK
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION A KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK *BF *NM
THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LINE THAT GOES THROUGH THE FIREWALL RUPTURED CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL WHEN THE DRIVER WAS COMING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER. *NM THE RUPTURE WAS A RESULT OF PREMATURE TOTAL RUST THROUGH IN TWO LOCATIONS ALONG THE PIPE. *TC
I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND WITHIN 32000 MILES YOU COULD FEEL A CLUNK IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE IMPALA WAS DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL DAY TO DAY USAGE AND WAS PROPERLY MAINTAINED. TOOK THE CAR IN FOR WARRANTY WORK AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD TO LUBE AND REPLACE A PIECE ON THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OF THE STEERING. NOW AT 81000 MILES THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS SHOW UP AGAIN! INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON STEERING COLUMN STARTS WITH A CLICKING NOISE AND THROUGH USAGE AND TIME GETS WORSE. YOU START FEELING THE CLICK THROUGH THE STEERING COLUMN AND WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED WHILE DRIVING! I FEEL AS AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION GM NEEDS TO BE MADE TO HAVE A RECALL ON ALL IMPALA'S PRODUCED FROM 2000 THRU 2004. THIS CLICKING IS A FAILURE OF THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND OTHER STEERING COMPONENTS ASSOCIATED IT AND WILL LEAD TO SUBSEQUENT FAILURE AND ACCIDENT IN THIS VEHICLE. *NM
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR REGULAR CHECKUP WHEN RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE FALLING OFF AND THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF REPAIR PRIOR TO THIS OCCASION, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS IF THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE BRAKES DID NOT OPERATE. *JB
DT: 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT WORK, IT WILL BE ON AND IT WILL SHUT OFF. CONSUMER REPLACED THE FUSE AND THE FLASHER UNIT. THEY ONLY WORK WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON OR IF THE VEHICLE IS OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE JANUARY.*AK
LEAK OF COOLANT, LOW COOLANT LIGHT. *JB
ON JANUARY 10, 2005, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY. I HIT THE VEHICLE, 2005 FORD FOCUS FROM BEHIND AND MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS DRIVING A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED DAMAGES TO THE FORD FOCUS FROM THE BEHIND, DENTING THE BUMPER AND LEADING TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BUMPER AND 1530.00 WORTH OF DAMAGES ON THE FORD FOCUS AND OVER A 1000 DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGES ON THE IMPALA. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE CAR CAME UP IN RED, BUT THAT WAS IT. THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED DURING THE ACCIDENT, EVEN THOUGH MAJOR INJURIES DID NOT OCCUR, MAJOR INJURIES COULD HAVE OCCURIED AND NO SUPPORT TO ELIMINATE OR DECREASE THE INJURIES WOULD HAVE OCCURIED. *JB
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MAKING TURNS WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH. TAKEN TO DEALER FOR CHECK UP, AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT A GEAR IN THE STEERING BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK. THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING DURING TURNS. SOMETIMES IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL, OTHER TIMES, IT WORKED WHEN STARTING A TURN THE STOPPED PART WAY THROUGH THE TURN. A SMALL PERSON WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM TURNING THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO USED CAR DEALER, AND MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT A GEAR IN THE STEERING BOX WENT BAD, AND PUT A NEW STEERING BOX IN. *AK
THE RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY FAILURE. RACK AND PINION LEAKED AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AND STILL HAS PROBLEMS. *BF THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *SC *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY IN RAINY CONDITIONS. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM TO ACTIVATE THE HAZARD LIGHTS EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 140,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
A 'CLUNK' WITH ASSOCIATE 'LOOSENESS' IN THE STEERING OF OUR 2000 IMPALA IS NOTED. OUR RESEARCH INDICATES THAT MANY OWNERS OF SIMILAR MODELS WHO EXPERIENCED THIS OCCURRENCE AND, BY SOME DEALERS, WAS CORRECTED BY REPLACEMENT OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT WE HAVE A PROBLEMATIC STEERING ASSEMBLY AND DO NOT KNOW IF THIS CAN LEAD TO FAILURE OR NOT.*AK

IN CHECKING FOR A CHEAPER REPAIR PRICE, SEVERAL MECHANICS STATED THEY HAVE REPLACED LOTS OF THESE ON THE IMPALA. SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT. REPAIR IS BEING DONE TODAY, 2 DEC 04 AT BEARDMORE CHEVROLET, BELLEVUE NEBRASKA. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE TURN SIGNAL WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR. WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS WERE NOT WORKING HE COULD PRESS THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH AND THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD ACTIVATE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. DURING AN OIL CHANGE A MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIRS. I FILED THIS SAME COMPLAINT LAST YEAR AT THE SAME TIME. THE CAR OPERATED FINE FOR EXACTLY ONE WHOLE YEAR AFTER DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL REGULATOR. THE FAILURE IS THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THIS OCCURS THERE IS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL OF THE CAR. I AM UNABLE TO STEER, STOP, EVERYTHING LOCKS UP. THE CONSEQUENCES OF DRIVING A CAR LIKE THIS IS ME LOSING MY LIFE. ON 11/29/04 IS WHEN THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THEN ON 11/30 AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IT STALLED WITH A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BUS ON MY TAIL, THE CAR LOSS POWER. THE BUS DRIVER WAS HONKING HIS HORN AND FLASHING HIS LIGHTS BUT SHOWED LITTLE SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN FOR A CAR THAT WAS STALLED OUT. I FEEL THESE VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE TOTALLY RECALLED UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER CAN DETERMINE WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I AM WILLING TO ALLOW THEM TO TROUBLESHOOT MY CAR TO EVERY EXTENT. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS AND ALL THEY CAN SAY IS TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL IT GETS WORSE. THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT AN OPTION AS I DID LAST YEAR AND THEY STILL WERE NOT ABLE TO FIX THE CAR. THESE CARS ARE GOING TO CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT A.S.A.P. I REFUSE TO PICK UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALER UNTIL THEY HAVE A FIX, I ALSO REFUSE TO MAKE ANOTHER PAYMENT ON THE CAR UNTIL IT IS IN WORKING CONDITION. I FEEL THAT EITHER THIS CAR WILL EXPLODE ON ME THE NEXT TIME I ATTEMPT TO CRANK IT OR I AM GOING TO BE KILLED WHEN IT STALLS WHILE I AM DRIVING. MY LIFE IS WAY MORE VALUABLE THAN THIS CAR WILL EVER BE WORTH TO ANYONE. I DIDN'T GET MUCH ASSISTANCE FROM YOU LAST YEAR WHEN I FILED THIS COMPLAINT SO I AM HOPING YOU HAVE A NEW INSIGHT ON THE SERIOUSNESS THIS CAR POSES. *JB
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND FLASHED AND STAYED ON. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, AND REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG MODULE HAD AN INTERNALLY OPEN CIRCUIT AND CAUSING DTC. THEY REPLACED THE AIRBAG AT THE COST OF $445. THERE WAS NO TAMPERING ON MY PART, OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A DEFECT SO WHY DO I THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, I AM A PARAMEDIC/ LT AND KNOW HOW WELL AIRBAGS WORK. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD CHECK INTO THIS MATTER AND HOPEFULLY NO ONE WILL BE INJURED BECAUSE OF OTHERS WHO HAVE NOT REPORTED THIS TO YOU. *JB
I OWN A 2000 IMPALA. FROM TIME TO TIME, THE TURN SIGNALS WILL STOP BLINKING OR WILL NOT BLINK AT ALL. IF I TURN THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON AND OFF, THEY WILL RESUME BLINKING.*AK I KNOW OF A MALIBU WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICHLE, THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT SAID THERE WERE ONLY RECALLS ON TWO MODELS AND MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT I THINK IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM.

AT ANY SPEED MY POWER STEERING STARTED TO FAIL INTERMITTENTLY, WITH ANY SPECIFIC WARNING. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 7 DAYS, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THE LAST TIME I DID GO OFF THE ROAD AND IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALERSHIP. THEY CONTEND THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANY PROBLEM, AND THAT THE DIAGNOSTICS DO NOT SHOW ANY ISSUE.

TOOK AUTO TO SHOP FOR TIRES AND MECHANIC NOTIFIED ME THAT INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING COOLANT INTO OIL DUE TO DEFECTIVE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. MECHANIC IS AWARE OF MULTIPLE OCCURANCES OF THIS PROBLEM WITH 2000 CHEV IMPALA. CHECKED WEB SITE AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM WITH NO SATISFACTION FROM MANUFACTURER.

THE VEHICLE HAD 37,000 ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. HOWEVER, IT WILL START BUT HAS NO POWER. THE VEHICLE SOUNDED AS IF IT WAS IN A VERY LOW GEAR. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE REPAIR SHOP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
MY 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA RECENTLY STARTED MAKING VERY LOUD GURGLING SOUNDS. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM MY COMPLAINT AND ASKED THEM TO FLUSH THE COOLING SYSTEM. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE AND MAKE A THREE DAY TRIP AND UPON RETURNING TO MY DRIVEWAY THE GURGLING SOUNDS BEGAN. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND MADE APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK TO THEM. AFTER THEY PRESSURE TESTED MY VEHICLE THEY SAID I NEEDED A CHEMICAL FLUSH DUE TO ALL THE RUST THEY FOUND. I ASKED THEM WHY THEY DIDN'T SEE THE RUST A FEW DAYS EARLIER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FELT THE FIRST FLUSH MUST HAVE BROKEN THE RUST LOOSE AND THEY DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING LIKE THAT 7 DAYS AGO. THEY THEN QUOTED ME $400 TO DO A CHEMICAL FLUSH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER REPAIR PLACE AND WHEN HE REMOVED THE CAP IT WAS COVERED WITH BROWN SLUDGE-LOOKING GUNK. A YEAR PREVIOUSLY, WHEN I SAW THE NEWS ABOUT DEX-COOL, I HAD ASKED AT THE DEALERSHIP (DURING ONE OF MY ROUTINE SERVICES) IF MY CAR WAS AFFECTED AND WAS ASSURED IT WAS NOT. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE TO HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE AND IT WAS THERE THAT I WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THIS DAMAGE WAS DUE TO DEX-COOL AND THAT THEY SEE VEHICLES CONSTANTLY WITH SIMILAR DAMAGE.*AK

VEHICLE ONLY HAS 33000 MILES, MUCH TOO SOON FOR A TRANS AXLE FAILURE, CONTACTED GM, WAS TOLD TO LET DEALER REBUILD TRANS AXLE, AND IF DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE FOUND, GM MAY PAY SOME OF THE COST.*AK
