My 2009 malibu has had the recall fixed a few years ago for the brake lights but they are currently turning on when I let off the brake peddle and turn off when I press the brake peddle but at random times. Everytime I drive I never know if my brake lights are on when they need to be or if I'm driving with no lights. My ESC and traction control error keeps coming on and going away as well. Not sure if these issues are connected but started around the same time.
My brake light illuminate while driving when not touched.. if I tap the brake they will turn off. they do not always come on when I press the brake .I have taken the vehicle to the shop and they did work on the brake system and it still does the same thing .I then found out there was a recall for 2009 Chevy malibus but for some reason my car does not fall under the category and I am unsure as to why considering I have the exact same issue as the recall States. This has continued for the past year (everytime I drive the car no matter how far or fast or how long ) and is getting worse. My drive to work daily is an hour and 15 minutes one way and it happens at least 30-40 times in one trip.
2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING FAILURE WAS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PIPES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE OWNER. *JS
ON 28 FEBRUARY 2020, MY 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING AS A RESULT OF A LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE DUE TO CORROSION-INDUCED FAILURE OF BOTH THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES THAT SUPPLY BRAKE FLUID FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATION VALVE (BPMV), WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED BUT FOR A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES. BOTH HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES FAILED WITHIN AN HOUR OF ONE ANOTHER AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MILES, FORTUNATELY WITHOUT RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. EACH OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES HAD FAILED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THESE PIPES WERE NOT NYLON COATED AS WERE THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES IN THE VEHICE, AND EACH EXTENDED DOWNWARDS ABOUT 8 INCHES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, TO A CORRESPONDING ELBOW DEFINING A CORRESPONDING LOW POINT, FROM WHICH EACH LINE EXTENDED UPWARDS ' VIA A FLEXIBLE LINK PORTION ' TO THE BPMV. THE ELBOWS ' BEING LOCATED ABOUT 8 INCHES BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER ' ARE IN PROXIMITY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE BODY, AND ARE THEREFORE EXPOSED TO ROAD SPLASH, INCLUDE SALT SPRAY DURING WINTER MONTHS. WITH THE ELBOWS DEFINING LOW POINTS OF THE ASSOCIATED HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES, ANY WATER OR SALT-WATER SPRAYED ONTO THOSE PIPES WILL GRAVITATE, AND THEN CLING, TO THOSE ELBOWS UNTIL BEING EVAPORATED THEREFROM, LEADING TO CORROSION THEREOF AT A SUBSTANTIALLY ACCELERATED RATE RELATIVE TO WHAT WOULD OCCUR IF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES DID NOT EXTEND BELOW ' OR AT LEAST SO FAR BELOW ' THE MASTER CYLINDER; OR IF AT LEAST THE ELBOWS HAD BEEN OTHERWISE COATED WITH NYLON AS ARE ALL THE REMAINING STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES FROM THE BPMV TO THE WHEEL CYLINDERS.
I HAVE A MALIBU THAT HAS ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LAMPS. THE LAMPS MAY EITHER ILLUMINATE WITH OUT THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIES OR TURN OFF WHEN THE BREAK PEDAL IS APPLIED. THERE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE #16188. THIS RECALL REPLACES BREAK APPLY SENSOR AND THE BPPS HARNESS AND CONNECTOR REPAIR. BUT IN THE BULLETIN IT STATES THAT THE ISSUE IS CAUSE BY THE BCM VOLTAGE SURGES. TO ME THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE THE BCM. THE RECALL REPAIRS THAT DAMAGED CAUSE BY THE BCM. WHY IS THE BCM NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED AND HAVE HAD THE SAME BRAKE ISSUE 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES. I CURRENTLY HAVE MY CAR IN A GM DEALER RIGHT NOW AND I AM NOW TOLD THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE BCM. WHEN I DROPPED THE CAR OFF THIS MORNING, I LEFT ALL MY SERVICE RECORDS SO I DO NO HAVE THE EXACT DATES FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SERVICED BY THE DEALER AND STILL I ENSURING THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN AFTER IT WAS RESOLVED VIA RECALL AND GMC VOUCHER , THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN I'M DRIVING!!!! THIS COMPLAINT ISN'T THE FIRST OF ITS KIND AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THINGS THIS ISN'T ONLY AFFECTING MY VEHICLES I HAVE READ THROUGH OTHER REPORTS ONLINE AS WELL AS COMPLAINTS TALKING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. I BECAME AWARE THAT THE PROBLEM AROSE AGAIN WHEN OTHER DRIVERS SPED AROUND ME FLICKING ME OFF. ONE INCIDENT ALMOST RESULTED IN BEING CLIPPED AS THE OTHER DRIVER WAS SO CLOSE TO MY VEHICLE AS HE RACED PAST TO CUT IN FRONT OF ME. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE. IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS BRAKING IS A KEY COMPONENT TO DRIVER SAFETY!
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD COME TO FIND OUT BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON ACTING AS IF I WAS BREAKING AND WHEN I BRAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF SO IN OTHER WORDS IT'S REVERSED. AND ALSO WHEN I GOOGLED ONLINE TO FIND OUT IF I COULD FIND THE PROBLEM MULTIPLE PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS I GOOGLED WHY ARE MY BRAKE LIGHTS ON WHEN NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES AND ALSO ACCORDING TO SOME PEOPLE ONLINE THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THE DEALER WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THEM. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND VERY DANGEROUS AND RIGHT NOW I FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING MY CAR ESPECIALLY IN THE SITUATION THAT I AM IN.
THIS IS THE MALIBU HYBRID WITH DYNAMIC BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE: GOING UP A HILL, THE ENGINE SEEMS TO LOSE POWER, BUT I BELIEVE IT IS WORKING AGAINST THE BRAKES WHICH ARE BEING APPLIED AND RELEASED RAPIDLY. IT STARTS BUCKING SLIGHTLY THEN SEVERELY. WHEN I REACH THE TOP, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND START COASTING AND THE BUCKING STOPS. WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE TO PULL OVER AND STOP, IT STARTS BUCKING LIKE IT DID GOING UP THE HILL. I GET THE CAR STOPPED, PUT IT IN PARK, TURN THE ENGINE ON, PUT IT IN REVERSE, BACK UP A LITTLE, PUT IT IN DRIVE, GO FORWARD A LITTLE, AND PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED ABOUT 100 MILES TO GET HOME. DROVE INTO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND A VERY EXPERIENCED HYBRID TECH SAID "NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE." HE RAN THE SCANNER AND NOTHING SHOWED UP. IT HAPPENS SO INFREQUENTLY THAT I DOUBT THE TECHNICIAN WILL EVER INCUR THE PROBLEM IF HE WERE TO RIVE THE CAR, THIS IS SERIOUS ... ONLY MY SKILLFUL HANDLING OF THE INCIDENT GOT ME OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY ALTHOUGH TRAFFIC WAS BLOWING BY ME. MY GUESS IS A PROBLEM IN THE DYNAMIC BRAKING (E.G WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS, THE "ECO" LIGHT COMES ON AND THE GENERATOR ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM CHARGES THE 24 VOLT BATTERY.
CAR WOULD ACT LIKE BRAKES WERE PRESSED WHEN THEY WEREN'T. BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON, CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES, AND THE CAR WOULD DOWNSHIFT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK OR IN MOTION. THEN WHEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL GENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OFF. PUSHING FURTHER DOWN ON THE PEDAL WOULD MAKE THE CAR RESPOND CORRECTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A MANUFACTURER RECALL CONCERNING NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY FAILURES BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS RANDOMLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEGAN TURNING ON BY THEMSELVES, AND WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THEY WOULD SHUT OFF. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IN LATE 2014, BUT THEN THE ISSUE BEGAN AGAIN IN MAY, 2016. THE DEALERSHIP RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS AND REPLACED THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR, WHICH I WAS CHARGED FOR, BUT THAT DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW THEY DECIDED THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE, AGAIN, AT MY EXPENSE. THERE IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WHICH IS A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE AT GM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL COME ON ANYTIME, WHETHER IT'S IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY OR BEING DRIVEN DOWN THE ROAD.
I HAD A LADY FOLLOW ME DOWN A 55MPH HIGHWAY THIS MORNING, INTO MY PARKING LOT AT WORK, TO TELL ME THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON AS I WAS DRIVING. ONCE I REACHED A SPEED OF 15MPH OR FASTER, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF WHEN I WOULD BRAKE. SHE SAID SHE FOLLOWED ME TO MAKE SURE I KNEW OF THE ISSUE AND THAT SHE ALMOST REAR-ENDED ME, BUT WAS MINDFUL THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES SO FOLLOWED A BIT FURTHER BEHIND. I ALSO HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC DISPLAY WARNINGS ARE ON MY DASHBOARD, AND MY CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, THERE IS AN APPARENT RECALL ON THAT AFFECTS MY MAKE/MODEL YEAR VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED (AFTER PROVIDING MY VIN) THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I AM WONDERING HOW IT IS DETERMINED WHAT VIN'S ARE COVERED AND WHICH ARE NOT. I AM CLEARLY WITH A SAFETY ISSUE ON MY CAR AND SOMEONE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO BE WATCHING OUT FOR ME THIS MORNING. *TR
2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BODY CONTROL MODULE CONNECTION SYSTEM RECALL REIMBURSEMENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED IN JUNE 2014, THE VEHICLE WASN'T RUNNING SMOOTHLY. IT SEEMED TO EXHIBIT A JERK MOTION AND FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE ESC LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THEN GO OUT. THE DEALER MADE SOME REPAIRS ON JUNE ON JUNE 27, 2014. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. GM INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, THE FUEL INJECTOR WIRE WAS REPLACED. RECALL # 14V252000 UPDATED 12/30/15.*JB
AFTER FILING TWO COMPLAINTS WITH YOU, AND RECEIVING A RECALL ALERT FROM YOU, I AM BEING TOLD BY GM THAT MY VEHICLE, A 2009 MALIBU BUILT BETWEEN THE YEARS SPECIFIED IN YOUR RECALL NOTICE, IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL YOU ALERTED ME ABOUT. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? THE REFERENCED RECALL # 14V252000, AS HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME MALFUNCTION, AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER HAS INVOICES, THAT DATE BATE TO 2011, WHERE HE HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE, BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, FOR AN INOPERABLE CRUISE CONTROL AND ESC LIGHTING ILLUMINATING. UPDATED 07/16/14
WHILE DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE SERVICE TRACTION, SERVICE ESC, AND ESC OFF WARNING LIGHTS HAVE ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH. ON TWO OF THESE OCCASIONS, MOTORISTS HAVE ATTRACTED MY ATTENTION AND NOTIFIED ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE REVERSED. APPARENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NOT APPLIED, AND THE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I WENT TO START THE CAR AND PRESSED THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND HAVE NO PARKING BRAKE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEIR DIAGNOSE WAS THAT THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKE BECAUSE THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE LOW, I AM CLAIMING THEM THIS IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, DUE TO A CAR ROLL OVER OR NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE PADS WERE LOW BUT DID NOT WERE ON METAL. *JS

ALSO, THE BRAKE WARNING LAMPS ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BUT THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN BEFORE I COULD HIT THE CAR. *JS
