WAS TURNING LEFT WHEN IT SUDDENLY BECAME SLIGHTLY HARDER TO STEER. THE DASH STARTED BEEPING AND THE NOTIFICATION "POWER STEERING" CAME UP. POWER STEERING TURNED BACK ON AFTER THE TURN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH NO WARNING SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BREAK LIGHT ILLUMINATED FREQUENTLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT APPLIED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14E044000 (STEERING) AND 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC , VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
ON 17 JANUARY 2015 I WAS DRIVING HOME DOWN A SOMEWHAT WINDING ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING ON MY VEHICLE FAILED COMING INTO A TURN ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GO INTO A DITCH. THE FAILURE WAS SUDDEN AND I HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES TO AVOID DRIVING OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE READ AROUND ON FORUMS AND THOUGH MANY OF THE RECALLS FOR OTHER MODELS AND SAME MODELS OF DIFFERENT YEARS THAT HAVE A SIMILAR STEERING SETUP. I BELIEVE IT IS THE MALIBUS OF THE MODEL YEAR 04, 05, 06, 08, AND 09 THAT ARE COVERED BY THE RECALL WHEREAS MY VEHICLE IS A 2010 WHICH IS NOT COVERED. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAP SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,492.
OWNER WAS DRIVING CAR WAS INFORMED THAT TAIL LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING BY ANOTHER MOTORIST. STOPPED AT SHOP. REPAIR SHOP UNPLUGGED LIGHT HARNESS AND CUSTOMER LEFT THEN APPROXIMATELY 20 MINS. LATER SMOKE AND FIRE WAS NOTICED COMING OUT OF THE LEFT REAR TRUNK AREA AT LOCATION OF WIRING HARNESS AREA. THIS IS THE SECOND WIRING HARNESS TRUNK FIRE THIS INVESTIGATOR HAS INVESTIGATED ON A CHEVY MALIBU IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. A SECOND FIRE WAS INVESTIGATED WITH THE SAME SCENARIO ON A 2006 CHEVY MALIBU THAT OCCURRED ON 8-11-2014. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AS THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT SENDING THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN THE FAR LEFT LANE. I HEARD CHIMES. POWER STEERING. SERVICE ECS MESSAGE SCROLLED ACROSS. THE TRACTION INDICATOR ICON CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO PHILLIPS CHEVY IN LANSING. I WAS CHARGED $119.75 DIAGNOSTIC TEST FEE. THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM WITH MALIBU. THERE ARE RECALLS FOR OTHER YEARS BUT NOT THE 2010. TO FIX IT I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $724 PLUS TAX. *TR
DROVE CAR AROUND TOWN WITH NO PROBLEMS, CAME HOME, PUT CAR IN PARK ON LEVEL STREET AND LEFT IT RUNNING FOR 2 MINUTES, GOT BACK IN CAR PUT IN REVERSE AND NOTICED CAR SHIFTER WAS A LITTLE STIFF. IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING MY CAR IN THE GARAGE, GOING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE A COUPLE OF TIMES, I NOTICED IT TOOK QUITE A BIT OF STRENGTH TO GET SHIFTER TO MOVE FROM ONE GEAR TO ANOTHER. I WENT IN THE HOUSE AND GOT ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS. I DID SEE THERE IS A GENERAL RECALL FROM GM FOR SEVERAL VEHICLES, MY YEAR AND MAKE INCLUDED. THE PROBLEM IS THE TABS ON THE SHIFT LINKAGE COME OFF AND NOT ONLY CAUSE THE SHIFTER TO BE REAL STIFF, BUT CAUSE THE LITTLE SILVER BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF THE SHIFTER TO STICK AND NOT COME BACK OUT AFTER PRESSED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE GEARS, CAUSES IS THE SHIFTER TO APPEAR TO BE IN "PARK" BUT IT REALLY ISN'T AND THE CAR ENDS UP ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER LEAVES IT, PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS GETTING THEIR KEYS TO COME OUT OF THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T ACTUALLY IN PARK EVEN THOUGH THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN THE PARK POSITION. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET DEALER IN WATSONVILLE, CA AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE MY CAR DOES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT LINKAGE, BUT MY CAR WASN'T ON THE RECALL LIST, AND EVEN THOUGH MY CAR ONLY HAS 18,100 MILES ON IT, IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS FIX. I THEN REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO GM WITH SENIOR ADVISOR [XXX], OPERATOR #[XXX], PLEASE REFER TO CASE #[XXX]. I FEEL MY CAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE IT WAS EXPERIENCING ONE OF THE SAME PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND GET BACK TO ME. I WOULD LIKE A CONTACT PERSON I CAN WORK WITH ON THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO AVOID SAFETY PROBLEMS FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS. I HAD A LOSS OF POWER STEERING "SERVICE ESC" LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. CAR WAS COMPLETELY MANUAL STEERING AT THAT POINT, EXTREMELY HARD TO CONTROL. SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL 14E044. ALSO, PART MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY THAT THE RECALL INVOLVED. I PURCHASED A NEW POWER STEERING SENSOR AND HAD IT INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE POWER STEERING STILL DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY, BUT THIS TIME WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED ON, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT, ON ITS OWN. WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY WAS VOIDED ON THE PRODUCT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL GM SERVICE DEPARTMENTS THAT THIS IS A FAULTY PART AND THAT OFTEN TIMES SEVERAL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED BEFORE YOU FIND ONE THAT WORKS. ALSO, I WAS NOT PROVIDED A WRITTEN WARRANTY FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE PART, BUT THE PARTS DEPARTMENT TOLD THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY ON IT. HOWEVER, NO DETAILS AS TO STIPULATIONS WERE PROVIDED. I AM UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT GM AND DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECTIVE PART AND INSTEAD OF ADDRESSING THE ISSUE, THEY ARE TRYING TO PUT THE RESPONSIBILITY OFF ON THE CAR OWNER. THE DEALERSHIP WAS DISHONEST IN ITS PRACTICES IN DEALING WITH THIS DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
4 TIMES IN THE LAST 4-6 WEEKS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN "SERVICE TRACTION" THEN "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" & THE CAR LOSES POWER AND STARTS SHUDDERING VIOLENTLY. WORST SITUATION WAS GOING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY & HAD TO GET TO THE SHOULDER & SLOWLY MAKE MY WAY TO THE EXIT BECAUSE SO LITTLE POWER. SAME SITUATION EACH TIME BUT NOT ALWAYS AT HIGH SPEED. SHUT OFF THE CAR, RESTARTED & CHECK LIGHT STILL ON BUT COULD DRIVE. KEPT IT TO 40MPH & UNDER. VERY AFRAID OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN & WILL NOT DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY WHERE MY LIFE & OTHERS WOULD SURELY BE IN DANGER IF I CAN'T GET TO A SHOULDER & OUT OF TRAFFIC. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT, MAKING IT UNABLE TO STEER THE CAR. THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $400. OUR 2004 CHEVY MALIBU HAD THE EXACT THING HAPPEN TO IT. IT WAS COVERED BY A GM RECALL. HOWEVER WITH THE 2010, THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS, LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION. *TR
DEC 16. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES OPENING AND CLOSING MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE LATCH WON'T HOOK CORRECTLY. I HAVE THE DOOR CLOSE, BECAUSE IF I OPEN IT WON'T CLOSE. IT'S DIFFICULT TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE AND OUT SIDE. RIGHT NOW I HAVE TO CLIMB OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF MY CAR. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY MAKE AND MODULE OF CAR. ITS DEFINITELY A HAZARD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL AT ONCE THE CAR LOST POWER. THE ESC, CHECKING LIGHT, AND ENGINE POWER REDUCE COME ACROSS THE DISPLAY. I COULD NOT GO OVER 20MPH, BUT I'M GLAD I WASN'T FAR FROM HOME NOR ANY CAR BEHIND ME AT THE TIME THIS HAPPEN. I WILL BE TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP DOWN THE STREET FROM MY HOUSE AS SOON AS THEY OPEN UP AT 0700 MONDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2014 TO GET IT CHECK OUT. THIS SCARED ME SO BAD THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THIS IS SO UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY TRAVELING. *TR

ONE NIGHT I WAS LEAVING WORK AND I REALIZED THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE BLINKER WAS NOT WORKING, INDICATING THAT MY BULB WAS OUT. BUT BY THE TIME I MADE IT HOME IT WAS WORKING AGAIN. A FEW DAYS LATER I NOTICED THAT MY BLINKER WAS NOT WORKING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I FOUND THAT WHEN MY LIGHTS ARE ON THE PARK LIGHT OR BLINKER DOES NOT WORK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF THE BLINKER OR BRAKE LIGHT DOES NOT WORK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. ALSO WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON THE CONSOLE FLASHES WITH NUMBERS THEN WITH THE LINES. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2010 MALIBU WITH THE BCM BODY CONTROL MODULE. THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS LUMINATE WITH OUT YOU STEPPING ON THE BRAKES. WHAT NEEDS TO BE KNOWN IS THAT IS ALSO AFFECTS THE BLINKERS, BRAKE AND PARK LIGHTS. IT CAN ALSO BURN OUT YOUR BULBS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE I TAKE A CHANCE ON MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN AND CHANGING LANES WITHOUT GETTING HIT. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND I PRAY EVERY DAY THAT WE MAKE A SAFE JOURNEY. THAT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.
EXITING THE FREEWAY MY CAR DISPLAY FLASHED "ESC OFF" "REDUCE ENGINE POWER". MY CAR CONTINUED TO REDUCE POWER UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY SHUT DOWN. I WAS IN CHICAGO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT PULL ALL THE WAY OVER BEFORE THE CAR SHUT DOWN. MY CAR WAS DISABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WHEN I STARTED IT BACK UP IT WAS FINE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I CONTINUED TO TRY TO MAKE MY DRIVE HOME AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER. THIS TIME I WAS NOT IN A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD. I DID MAKE IT TO THE PARKING LANE AND SET THERE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING THE CAR. THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER ON ME AGAIN APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AGAIN. THE FINAL TIME WAS AS I WAS PARALLEL PARKING MY CAR IN FRONT OF MY HOME AND I JUST LET IT SHUT OFF AFTER I PARKED. I DROVE THE CAR TODAY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON BUT IT HAS NOT STOPPED. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SCARY AND CONCERNING. HAVING YOUR ENGINE SHUT DOWN OWN A FREEWAY IS TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT OTHER MALIBU OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS THUS FAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, A CHIME WAS HEARD AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE ENGINE. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OR IF ANY INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES IN THE DIC: "SERVICE ESC" "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND "ENG REDUCED PWR." VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 60 MPH, AND THAT WAS WITH PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I HAD TO STOP, THE ENGINE SHOOK. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME - ALTHOUGH, AT ONE POINT, I WAS DRIVING 20 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ACCELERATION LANE BECAUSE THE CAR COULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. THE MESSAGES CLEARED WHEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. DEALER FOUND DTC OF "P2135" AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EMISSIONS/ENGINE/POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND CHARGED $500 FOR THE REPAIR. *TR

POWER STEERING HAS FAILED. WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 15 MILES PER HOUR POWER STEERING WARNING COMES UP AND ANTI-TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AT THAT POINT THE STEERING WHEEL JERKS TO THE LEFT AND HIT THE CURB. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO TRY AND RESET. THIS PROCESS WORKS SOMETIMES BUT NOT RESET EVERY TIME YOU DO THIS WE HAVE TO DO IT MULTIPLE TIMES TO KEEP GOING. THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I CAN SEE THAT THE 2010 MALIBU HAS HAD ENOUGH ISSUES TO GET GM TO ADD THIS CAR TO THE RECALL FROM 2008 AND 2009 MALIBU'S. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BEARINGS IN THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TODAY OCTOBER 24,2014, I TURNED THE KEY TO START THE CAR AND IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE IN PARK, IT THEN BEGAN TO HESITATE AND WANT TO STALL. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON IN MY CAR BUT THE POWER STEERING HAS WORKED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. IT WOULD COST HUNDREDS TO FIX. THE POWER STEERING FAILED, HOWEVER, WHEN I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH.
