TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEED SENSOR FOR THE ABS WAS DEFECTIVE; WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES, THEY WOULD PULSATE AND MAKE A CLICKING SOUND. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN HE WOULD ATTEMPT TO COMPLETELY STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES AND REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER AND CONTACT HIM BACK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 46,600.
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4WD PICKUP - CORRODED BRAKE LINE. FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE HOSE TO CALIPER END COMPLETELY ROTTED (I.E RUST), LINE LEAKED AND LOST PEDAL FIRMNESS. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK NOTICE AND REPAIRED MY SELF WITH NEW LINE. ALL OTHER BRAKE LINE EXHIBIT SIGNS OF SEVERE CORROSION ALONG WITH FUEL LINES AND TRANSMISSION LINES. I WOULD NOT EXPECT THIS SEVERE CORROSION ON A 1970 CHEVY PICKUP, LET ALONE A 2000. NEW STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE NOT AVAILABLE; ONLY THE HOSES LEADING TO CALIPERS. HARD LINES WILL NEED TO BE FABRICATED WHICH IS LABOR INTENSIVE AND EXPENSIVE. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 15 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER, THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AND BROKE CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO FRACTURE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED REPAIRS TO THE FUEL STRAPS WOULD BE OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 126, 544.
DISCOVERED A LOW PEDAL CONDITION WHILE DRIVING ON 695 , INSPECTED AND FOUND RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES AND FITTINGS HAVE CAUSED BRAKING MALFUNCTIONS IN MY 2000 SILVERADO THE VEHICLE HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT . THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE! THE DEALER REPAIRED FIRST PROBLEM @400.00 SECOND PROBLEM IS STILL PENDING. *TR
BRAKES ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET 2500 PICKUP FAILED BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE LINE RUSTING THROUGH. SERVICE CENTER SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WITH THESE TRUCKS. A TEN YEAR OLD TRUCK WITH 33,000.00 ALMOST KILLED ME. THAT IN A WORD IS NOT RIGHT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, AND WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE HIS FOOT IMMEDIATELY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR SHOCK SUPPORT BEAM FRACTURED, AND THE CONTACT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN LOCATING THE PART FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO RUSTED OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE GAS LINE WAS ALSO RUSTED OUT. *TR
I TRIED TO STOP, BECAUSE OF A SUDDEN STOPPED CAR IN FRONT. I EXPERIENCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, LEFT THE ROAD, DROVE INTO A FIELD. NO DAMAGE DONE. INVESTIGATION REVEALED ALL MY BRAKES LINES RUSTED THROUGH, CORRODED BEYOND REPAIR. WORST CORROSION I EVER SAW ON ANY BRAKE LINES. SUDDEN FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED DEADLY CRASH.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT FLAMES IGNITED FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND GARDEN HOSE. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE AND NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WOULD BE A RESPONSE WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE WAS 120,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO . WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THEN DROVE HOME VERY SLOWLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COVERED WITH RUST. THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE REAR BRAKES LINES WERE REPAIRED THE FRONT BRAKES LINES WERE COVERED WITH RUST WITHIN A FEW DAYS. THE FRONT BRAKES LINES WILL BE REPLACED BY THE CONTACT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118000.
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGES AT SLOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT FREQUENTLY. I TOOK IT TO TWO DIFFERENT BREAK PLACES AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T TOUCH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I JUST WANT TO GET THEM FIXED AND GET RID OF THE TRUCK BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. *TR
BOTH OF THE WINDOWS IN MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WILL NOT WORK. THIS COULD RESULT IN FAILURE TO BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. AND THE TAILGATE WILL NOT STAY UP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2000 CHEVROLET 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND ABRUPTLY ENGAGED THE BRAKES AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO RUST AND DETERIORATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,678. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN 2005 ACCORDING TO RECALL 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK); HOWEVER, IN MARCH 2010, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN OR STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,207. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMING ON AT INOPPORTUNE TIMES AND WHEN IT DOES THE ABS SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. VERY BAD TIMING WHEN ON MY WAY TO WORK THE STREETS WERE WET AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DECIDED TO STOMP ON THEIR BRAKES AND TAKE "THAT"EXIT OFF THE FREEWAY.BRAKES LOCKED UP AND IT WASN'T FOR LEAVING ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN CARS AND MY QUICK REACTION TIME IT COULD OF BECAME QUITE UGLY. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 EXTENDED CAB. I NOTICED A BRAKE LEAK UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. ON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LIKES TO AND FROM THE ABS MODULE WERE BADLY CORRODED WITH AT LEAST 1 LEAKING. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF CORROSION IN OTHER PARTS IN THE SAME AREA. THIS TRUCK HAS 145,000 MILES. THIS IS ALL HIGHWAY MILES. FOUND THAT NHTSA HAS OPENED AN INVESTIGATION WITH GM ON CORROSION IN BRAKE LINES IN 1999 THRU 2003 TRUCKS. WANT TO REGISTER WITH NHTSA ON THIS SAME ISSUE. WAS GOING TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE ITS TOO DANGEROUS TO KEEP DRIVING IT, NOW GOING TO SIT ON THE TRUCK TO AWAIT OUTCOME OF NHTSA INVESTIGATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 PICK UP TRUCK. THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 7 MPH WHEN HE TRIED TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HE HEARD A RUMBLING SOUND. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE DRIVER HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD TO JERK THE WHEEL TO KEEP FROM HITTING A TREE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CLIMATE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE DEFROST TAKES AN HOUR TO WORK. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT THE FAILURE AND THE DEALER STATED THAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO WORK THAT WAY. THE DRIVER ALSO STATED THAT THE FWD INDICATOR MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN HE SPOKE WITH THE DEALER THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,100.
I WAS PARKING MY TRUCK AND LOST MY BRAKES. FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT AND I HAD TO REPLACE THEM. ALSO I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED BADLY. I REPAIRED THE FUEL LINE 6 MONTHS AGO BECAUSE IT RUSTED THREW. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO REPLACE ALL LINES DO TO POOR QUALITY LINES WERE USED. *TR
AT A CHEVY DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND CHECK. WAS TOLD TRUCK WAS READY. IN ROUTE, THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THERE WAS A LEAK IN BRAKE LINE AND THAT BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND BRITTLE. I WAS TRAVELING AND HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPAIR BRAKE LINES. THEY REPLACED BRAKE LINES AND CONNECTORS FROM THE ABS UNIT BACK TO REAR WHEELS @ INCREDIBLE COST. WHEN I GOT HOME, I WENT TO TRUSTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE ALSO RUSTED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THEM TOO IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE BRAKE LINE PUNCTURE HAPPENED WHEN IT WAS AT THE DEALER. THERE WAS NO LEAK BEFORE IT WENT IN FOR SERVICE. THEY REFUSED TO TELL ME HOW THE LEAK OCCURRED EXCEPT TO SAY THAT THE LINES WERE RUSTY. I JUST READ IN PAPER ABOUT A NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO BRAKE FAILURE ON OLDER MODEL CHEVY TRUCKS. I LIVE IN NEW YORK. THE TRUCK IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, REGULARLY SERVICED, AND HAD JUST ABOVE 80,00 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY THE BRAKE LINES DID NOT RUPTURE WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WAS BECAUSE OF CORROSION, AND THE DEALER BACK HOME TOLD ME THAT ALL THE OTHER BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF CORROSION. I'VE ALREADY BEEN TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS. TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES WILL PUT MY EXPENDITURES FAR OVER WHAT THE TRUCK IS WORTH. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY TRIP. I WAS GIVEN NO REASON FOR WHY IT WENT (ANOTHER $2600). THE LAST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS A RUST-RELATED LEAK-OUT OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID. NEVER ANOTHER CHEVY. HORRIBLE TRUCK, HORRIBLE COMPANY. INCIDENTALLY, LONG-BED CHEVY TRUCKS APPARENTLY ALWAYS HAVE VIBRATION THAT THEY NEVER FIX, EVEN IF COMPLAINED ABOUT, APPARENTLY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T. AN OVERALL DEFECTIVE TRUCK, PERHAPS MORE APPROPRIATELY A DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURER. BELIEVE ME, IT DOES NO GOOD TO TRY TO WORK WITH THE COMPANY TO DEAL WITH ANY KIND OF PROBLEM, INCLUDING WARRANTY PROBLEMS. THEY WERE ALWAYS SO UNRESPONSIVE, YOU JUST GIVE UP. *TR
THIS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES, THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED BRAKE LINES. I COMPLAINED TO MECHANIC A NUMBER OF TIMES ABOUT BRAKES SHUDDERING AND GOING DOWN VERY LOW BEFORE CATCHING, THEY DROVE IT AND OF COURSE IT DID NOT DO IT. MORE RECENTLY THEY ARE SHUDDERING AND FEELING LIKE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE IS GOING ON WHEN JUST SLOWING ON DRY PAVEMENT. ON THURSDAY FEB 20, THE BRAKES WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THEY FINALLY STOPPED. I HAVE CALLED GM AND THEY SAID WHILE MANY OF THE TRUCKS IN THIS CATEGORY WERE RECALLED FOR BRAKE ISSUES, THIS VIN NUMBER WAS NOT. HOW IS THAT?? I HAVE YET ANOTHER APPT TO GO BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND SEE ABOUT REPLACING SENSORS, WHICH THEY SAID ARE ONGOING ISSUES ON THESE TRUCKS DRIVEN IN THE NORTHEAST. I DID READ THE RECALL AND IT DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT THIS TRUCK IS DOING, BUT THE GM REP I SPOKE WITH SAID THIS TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE RECALL I READ SAID ALL THESE TRUCKS IN THE SNOW BELT WHICH INCLUDED VERMONT WERE RECALLED. I AM FRUSTRATED AND CONFUSED HOW THEY CAN KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND SKIP AROUND WHICH MODELS THEY WILL SERVICE. *TR
AT SLOW SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 6 TO 8 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP OR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AND AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ABS ACTIVATES FOR NO REASON. THERE IS A RECALL # 05068C THAT MY VIN IS INCLUDED HOWEVER VEHICLES LOCATED IN NC ARE NOT INCLUDED. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN DIFFERENT STATES INCLUDING NY, PA AND NJ. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DAMAGE OR INJURY TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. GM AND THE DEALER SIR WALTER CHEVROLET IN RALEIGH, NC REFUSE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM UNDER RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. HE THEN SHIFTED TO A LOW GEAR AND WAITED FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED HE THEN PULLED OVER AND THEN NOTICED THAT HE LOST ALL HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CHEVROLET HOTLINE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OF 10 MPH, THE ABS ENGAGED WITHOUT WARRANT. WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, IT WOULD CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) AND THE DEALER REMOVED AND THOROUGHLY CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARING, APPLIED RUST INHIBITOR TO THE CLEANED SURFACE, GREASED THE MOUNTING SURFACE, REINSTALLED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND CHECKED THE PEAK-TO-PEAK OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO ENSURE THE WHEEL SPEED SIGNAL WAS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE DEALER ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT BE LIABLE FOR REPAIRS DUE TO PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 99,000.
TRUCK EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. SERVICE STATION INSPECTED BRAKES AND FOUND ALL METAL BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. PLEASE NOTE THE RELATIVELY VERY LOW MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENCE SUGGESTING MAJOR MATERIAL DEFECTS. I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4X4 PICK UP. THE ABS GOES OFF AT SLOW SPEEDS UNDER 10MPH YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF THE BRAKING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD'NT STOP. I ALMOST DRIFTED INTO TRAFFIC. *CN
ABS ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEEDS (LESS THAN 10 MPH) FOR NO REASON CAUSING REDUCED BRAKING. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A BUILDUP OF CORROSION, DIRT AND OTHER MATERIALS BETWEEN THE FRONT HUB/BEARING AND WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CAUSING LOSS OF SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST REPAIRED IN 2005 UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. THE PROBLEM RECURRED AGAIN IN JANUARY 2010 AND WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAD COME HOME FROM BEING OUT ON THE ROAD ALL WEEK, SINCE I AM AN OTR TRUCK DRIVER. I STARTED MY TRUCK TO LET IT WARM UP AND WHEN I GOT IN TO LEAVE, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT MY TRUCK INTO (R) AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SINCE I DO MOST MY MAINT. ON MY VEHICLES I FIGURED THE (MASTER CYLINDER) WENT BAD. AFTER REPLACING I WAS NOTICING THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE FLOOR UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAB. CRAWLED UNDER AND FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BLOWN AT THE ABS BLOCK. THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER DID MY REPAIRS AT THE GRAND SUM OF $850.21. *TR
ABS FAILING AT LOW SPEEDS. HAVE CLEANED BOTH SENSORS, CHECKED VOLTAGE AND THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. I HIT MY GATE AT THE HOUSE WHERE I PARK THE TRUCK BECAUSE THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP AND RAN FORWARD. *TR

ON DECEMBER 12, 2009, MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WAS INVOLVED IN A TWO VEHICLE COLLISION AS A RESULT OF MY ABS SENSORS ACTIVATING AT LOW SPEEDS. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHICH IN NORMAL HARD BRAKING WOULD HAVE STOPPED WITH OUT PROBLEM. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO MY FRONT BUMPER AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. APPARENTLY RECALL SERVICE WORK WAS PERFORMED ON NOVEMBER 11, 2005 TO FIX THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT PLAQUES NEARLY 1.3 MILLION GM TRUCKS FROM 1999 TO 2002. THE ABS SENSORS BECOME CORRODED AND ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS, GREATLY INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF A LOW SPEED BREAKING SITUATION. THE RECALL MAY HAVE REPLACED THE SENSORS BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS I AM NOW A VICTIM OF THE SAME FAILING SENSORS NEARLY 4 YEARS LATER. I HAD NO WARNINGS THAT THE SENSORS WAS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY AND UNTIL THE CRASH OCCURRED AND I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM, I HAD NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE CORROSION PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SENSORS AND THE RECALL GM ISSUED AS A RESULT. I FEEL THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND GM SHOULD BE TELLING CONSUMERS ABOUT THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP TRUCK RESIDES IN THE SALT BELT AREA OF THE US AND HAS EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE RUSTING WHICH CAUSES WITHOUT WARNING TOTAL FAILURE OF BRAKES. I EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE WITH THE FRONT BRAKES IN DECEMBER OF 2008 AND AGAIN LAST WEEK, THIS TIME THE REAR BRAKES. I HAD ALL THE FRONT BRAKE LINES REPLACED BY GM AFTER THE FAILURE LAST YEAR WHEN THE BRAKE LINES RUST THROUGH, THERE IS NO FAIL SAFE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND YOU EXPERIENCE TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE DRIVER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH IN HEAVY WINDS, SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES AND THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER HEAD AND STOMACH. ONE OF THE PASSENGERS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE BACK AND THE OTHER PASSENGERS HEAD AND HANDS WERE INJURED. THE PASSENGER SEATED IN THE MIDDLE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER FACE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE, BUT CONCLUDED THAT THEY NEEDED MORE EVIDENCE. I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HALF TON Z71 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE PICKUP TRUCK. WHENEVER I HAVE TO BRAKE SUDDENLY THE BRAKES ABS SYSTEM KICKS IN IF I GO OVER A CRACK IN THE PAVEMENT. THE BRAKES FAIL AND I HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO STOP THE TRUCK. MY 16 YEAR OLD SON HAD A CAR ACCIDENT WITH THE TRUCK DUE TO THIS BRAKE FAILURE. HE HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY ON THE FREEWAY DUE TO A CAR ACCIDENT AHEAD OF HIM AND THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE TRUCK WENT ACROSS THE EXPANSION JOINT IN THE FREEWAY. HE REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. IF HE HAD NOT SLOWED DOWN TO LESS THAN APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I THINK TRUCK'S ABS SYSTEM HAS A DESIGN FLAW IN IT AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS RESULTS IF NOT LOOKED INTO. THE CHEVROLET DEALERS SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM BUT IT CONTINUES TO FAIL IN THESE SITUATIONS. *TR

WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A LOW SPEED, THE ABS KEPT ACTIVATING AND PREVENTED ME FROM STOPPING MY VEHICLE. ABOUT 2 INCHES BEFORE IT CONNECTS TO THE RUBBER BRAKE HOSE, A LARGE SECTION OF IT WAS RUSTED. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT MANY SILVERADO OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME BAD EXPERIENCE. IF MY OTHER 3 VEHICLES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, I WOULD THEN AGREE THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO ROAD SALT. HOWEVER, THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED THAT HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN TO IT. *TR
GM REFUSES TO CORRECT ABS PROBLEM. MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO IS EXPERIENCING A LOW SPEED ABS BRAKE ACTIVATION WHICH CAUSES AN EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE. THIS VEHICLE WAS SERVED BY THE DEALER IN 2005 FOR THE RECALL (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE05020).
