TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2008, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEAK ORIGINATED FROM THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM TO RESEARCH TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS FAILURE BEFORE HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS PUMP RUSTED OUT AND FAILED. BRAKE LINE FAILURE RESULTED IN NO BRAKING ABILITY WHATSOEVER. ONE WAS REPLACED EARLIER THAN THE INCIDENT DATE BELOW - APPROXIMATELY 2/07. TRUCK WAS PARKED BOTH TIMES THEY FAILED SO NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY. GOT LUCKY, THIS IS USED AS A TOW VEHICLE FOR A TRAILER. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED, THE OLD LINES ARE AVAILABLE. I DON'T HAVE THE VIN HANDY, CAN SUPPLY ON REQUEST. *TR
FUEL GAUGE FAILURE WHEN VEHICLE IS IN "PARK". LOW FUEL SIGNAL GOES ON. THEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE, THE GAUGE GOES TO FULL. THEN EVENTUALLY THE GAUGE GOES TO THE LEVEL OF THE FUEL. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD AND IS STARTED, THE ENGINE KNOCKS FROM THIRTY SECONDS TO ONE MINUTE. ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS WARMED, THE KNOCKING STOPS. GENERAL MOTORS STATED THAT THIS WAS CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND IS KNOWN AS ENGINE KNOCK COLD START, OR CARBON BUILD UP ON THE PISTON HEAD. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE HIS RESPONSIBILITY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 EXTENDED CAB. A FEW DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK I WAS IN TRAFFIC AT SPEEDS RANGING BETWEEN 2-10 MPH. ALMOST EVERYTIME I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD KICK IN AND MY TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP FOR A FEW EXTRA FEET ALMOST CAUSING ME TO REAR END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. NOW I CONTACTED CHEVY/GM AND THEY SAID THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY MY TRUCK UNDER THE VIN # I GAVE THEM DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. THEY SAID I'M SORRY BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO GET IT FIXED ON YOUR OWN. I WAS SHOCKED AT THE RESPONSE THEY GAVE ME. I CANT AFFORD THE CLOSE TO $1000 REPAIR AND I STILL HAVE TO USE THE TRUCK FOR WORK, BUT I KNOW I WON'T BUY ANOTHER GM AND I GUESS BY THE TIME THE RECALL GETS EXTENDED TO MY TRUCK SOMEONE WILL EITHER GET HURT OR KILLED DO TO GM NOT STEPPING UP AND TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY. RECENT VEHICLE INSPECTION REJECTION DUE TO PARKING BRAKE FAILURE TO OPERATE ON 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED TO OPERATE AT A VERY LOW MILEAGE ON THIS VEHICLE. REPAIRS LED TO HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. I AM AWARE OF A RECALL ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, DID CHEVROLET EQUIP AUTO TRANSMISSIONS WITH A DIFFERENT PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT AND STRUCK THE CENTER DIVIDER. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE WET AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. ONE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDERS AND CHEST ALONG WITH A SORE NECK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY BE DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 77,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THE BREAK PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED, WHICH ACTIVATED THE ABS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS SENSORS AND THE WHEEL HUB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE ANTILOCK BRAKES (NHTSA CAMPAIGN #05V379000). THE DEALER REPAIRED RECALL; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 59,000. THE CONTACT FELT THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 233,400.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET K2500. THE VEHICLE HAS FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL TIRES, SIZE LT245/75R16. ON AUGUST 6, 2007, A 24-INCH LONG STRIP OF TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON AUGUST 8, 2007 AND CAUSED TWO REAR WINDOWS TO SHATTER AND DAMAGED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE TIRE AND VEHICLE. THE DOT NUMBER AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,500. BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSIVE BRAKE LINES. ALL BRAKE LINES NEED REPLACEMENT. OTHER BRAKE COMPONENTS HAVE SHOW PROBLEMS DUE TO CORROSION SUCH AS BRAKE CALIPERS - ADDING TO STOPPING DISTANCE - AND ABS SENSORS - VEHICLE WOULD SLOW TO 5 TO 10 MPH FOR A SECOND OR TWO PRIOR TO STOPPING - DEALER REPLACED BRAKE LINES AT MY COST - WILL SUPPLY VIN NUMBER LATER IF POSSIBLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE FAILURES WITH THE BRAKES SINCE 2007. WHILE ENGAGING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO DOWN SHIFT AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND INSPECTED WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COVERED WITH RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $277.92. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NO COMPENSATION COULD BE OFFERED FOR THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, SHE WAS OFFERED FREE OIL CHANGES AND A TIRE ROTATION FOR A YEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,923 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC PUMP FAILED WHILE PULLING OUT OF HER DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE MOVED OR REPAIRED. SHE HAS HAD THREE MECHANICS INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THEY ALL STATED THAT IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED AND WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. GENERAL MOTORS STATED THAT THEY CAN DO NOTHING TO ASSIST WITH THE FAILURE. THERE ARE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE FOR HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE SPEED AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 129,832.
IN MAY (2007) I WENT TO NEW YORK AND DROVE MY SON'S 2000 Z71 SILVERADO BACK TO TEXAS WHEN HE WAS SENT TO IRAQ. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS NOTICED ON THE TRIP, BUT AFTER THE TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED FOR APPROX 3 WEEKS IN MY DRIVEWAY, IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE IT ACROSS MY DRIVEWAY WHILE I WAS EDGING. IT FELT LIKE THERE WAS SOMETHING HIGH-CENTERED UNDERNEATH IT. MY SON TAKES EXCELLENT CARE OF HIS VEHICLE AND STAYS CURRENT ON ALL MAINTENANCE, ALWAYS. AND, HE HAD JUST HAD NEW REAR BRAKES INSTALLED BEFORE HE LEFT. I HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND THEY REPLACED ALL BRAKES AND EMERGENCY BRAKES BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY WERE FROZEN WITH RUST. WHEN IT WAS BEING DRIVEN EVERYDAY, THE RUST NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO OXIDIZE ENOUGH TO COMPLETELY FREEZE THE WHEELS UP, BUT AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE IT WAS LIKE IT WAS UP ON BLOCKS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. SHE WAS FORCED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PARTS OF THE BRAKE LINE HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPLACED AT 54,000 AND 55,000 MILES. AT 55,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL NUMBERS 00V055000 AND 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK), HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED AND THE RECALLS WERE CLOSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 58,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER ON JULY 16, 2007. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE PIPES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE INTO HER GARAGE DOOR AT 10 MPH. THE GARAGE DOOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
WE ARE EXPERIENCING UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS GIVING US NO BRAKING WHEN ACTIVATED. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED ON !0/28/05 FOR ABS RECALL #05068 AT 75,484 MILES THIS PROBLEM IS RE OCCURRING FOR THE LAST 18MONTHS. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 115,000 MILES. I,VE NOTICED A NEW RECALL OUT #05V379000 FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS BRAKING ISSUE WAS ONCE IN A WHILE NOW TO BE EVERY DAY AND ALMOST EVERY COMPLETE STOP. COULD THE MANUFACTURER BE REQUIRED TO FIX THIS ISSUE AGAIN AT NO COST TO US? IT DOES APPEAR TO US THAT GM FIXED THE ISSUE THE FIRST TIME BUT NOT THE PROBLEM,THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE.*TR
CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 PICKUP TRUCK, 3 DOOR EXTENDED CAB VERSION. YEAR 2000. SEVERE BODY, BRAKE LINE AND FRAME RUST THROUGH. FRAME MEMBERS AND FUEL TANK, EXHAUST AND SHOCK ABSORBER SUPPORTS RUSTING THROUGH AND FAILING. CREATING VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION TO OCCUPANTS AND OTHER DRIVERS. BRAKE LINES FAILED COMPLETELY TWICE. BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE. VIN: [XXX]. HAVE HAD TO MAKE BODY PANEL REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENT TO CONTROL RUST THROUGH, HAVE HAD A BRAKE LINE FAILURE WHILE EXITING I-10 IN FLORIDA WHILE ON A VACATION TRIP, COULD NOT STOP AT END OF EXIT RAMP AND CONTINUED THROUGH A 4 CORNER INTERSECTION WITH ONLY THE USE OF THE PARKING BRAKE. ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH 3 VEHICLES. HAD TO GET EMERGENCY TOW AND REPAIRS TO CONTINUE RETURN TRIP TO MASSACHUSETTS. SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC AFTER LEAVING REPAIR SHOP HAVING HAD TO REPLACE A RUSTED LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER ! NOW, REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBERS ARE RUSTING THROUGH AND POSING A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN HINGHAM, MA. APPEARS NOT TO BE INTERESTED IN MAKING ANY REPAIRS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. ON JUNE 14, 2007, AT 84,000 MILES, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE BRAKES SERVICED. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE BACK SIDE OF THE ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED, EXCEPT FOR A HALF INCH OF PAD. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE ONE WHEELS WORTH OF COMBINED BRAKING. ALL FOUR ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED, TOTALING $468.49 IN REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 84,159. UPDATED 02/01/08. *LJ
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A ROAD AT 20 MPH AND WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES AS WE WERE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING AND I WAS INVOLVED IN A 4 CAR ACCIDENT CAUSED BY A TOTAL BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE GARAGE AND A MAJORITY OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUSTING. THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED AT THE INTERSECTION TO THE BRAKE MODULE MID VEHICLE SO WHEN THE FRONT LINES FAILED, THE PRESSURE BOOST TO THE REAR LINES CAUSED THEM TO ALSO FAIL. SO THE CONCEPT OF DUAL BRAKE SYSTEMS WAS DEFEATED DUE TO A SINGLE POINT FAILURE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE BRAKE FLUID SATURATED THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS SO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NON FUNCTIONAL. THE VEHICLE WAS A 2000 SILVERADO WHICH WAS A $35000 VEHICLE WHERE THE BRAKE LINES LASTED 7 YEARS. I ALSO OWN A 1987 S-10 PICKUP USED IN THE SAME ENVIRONMENT AND THE BRAKE LINES DO NOT EXHIBIT THE CORROSION SEEN ON MY SILVERADO BRAKE LINES. OBVIOUSLY GM USED SUBSTANDARD BRAKE LINES IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 2000 SILVERADO. I OWN TWO VEHICLES MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY AND USED IN THE SAME ENVIRONMENT. THEREFORE, IT IS NOT AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE. THE OFFICIAL COMMENT FROM GM THAT RUSTED BRAKE LINES ARE NOT A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CAN BE STOPPED WITH A DUAL BRAKING SYSTEM IS INCORRECT BECAUSE WHEN THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES FAIL, BOTH BRAKING SYSTEMS FAIL AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE STOPPED SAFELY. *TR
1- FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S II LT245 75R 16. CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 WAS PULLING TRAVELER TRAILER NORTHBOUND ON I95 INTO NC ON 90F DAY. 2- PASSENGER REAR TIRE OF TRUCK AT COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION BUT PRESSURE REMAINED IN TIRE. 35,920 MILES ON FAILED TIRE. DAMAGE OCCURRED TO TOW VEHICLE AS WELL AS TRAVEL TRAILER. 3 - SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED. THE TIRE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE BUT HAVE PICTURES, MARKINGS AND ALL ID NUMBERS ON THE TIRE.
I WAS DRIVING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT HOME AND NOTICED A NOISE BEHIND CHEVROLET 2000G HIGH TOP CONVERSION VAN. I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING INITIALLY FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRRORS. I LATER DISCOVERED THE SPARE TIRE WAS LYING IN THE STREET. THE STEEL CABLE THAT HELD IT UP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE VAN BROKE COMPLETELY. I WAS LUCKY IT HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. IF WE WERE GOING DOWN AN INTERSTATE IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF SOMEONE WERE FOLLOWING ME VERY CLOSE. I WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT. THERE APPEARED TO BE NO OTHER MECHANISM ATTACHED TO KEEP THE SPARE TIRE FROM FALLING OFF. I NOW HAVE A NEW ONE ON ORDER. IF THE SAFETY DEPARTMENT WAS INTERESTED I WOULD ASK THE DEALER TO KEEP THAT STEEL CABLE THAT BROKE. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM STOPPED OPERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT SHORTED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATES. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES FAIL TO OPERATE AND THE BRAKES FUNCTION LIKE NORMAL BRAKES WITHOUT ABS. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,791. UPDATED 06/14/07.*JB

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2006 FOR THE SPEED SENSORS ON MY 2000 SILVERADO. THE DEALER LUBRICATED THE SPEED SENSOR. IN NOVEMBER 2007 THE ABS BRAKE ACTIVATION STARTED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE DAY CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO OCCUR. IT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND BEGAN TO OCCUR FREQUENTLY WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR PARKING. OUR CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK, 2000 MAKE OF YEAR, HAS IGNITION ISSUES. IT IS HARD TO GET THE KEY TO TURN IN THE IGNITION, REQUIRING US TO EITHER JIGGLE THE IGNITION PLATE OR TURN THE KEY TO THE OTHER SIDE AND INSERT IT THAT WAY. I HAVE OWNED A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO EXT. CAB 4WD SINCE DECEMBER OF 2001. TODAY I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, AND IT WAS WET OUT. I WAS TRAVELING AT 25 MPH AND AS I WAS SLOWING TO A LIGHT I COMPLETELY STOPPED THE TRUCK. THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR 10 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PISTONS STRIKING AGAINST THE METAL BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PISTONS AND THE CYLINDER. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE ISSUE. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE HAS EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY; THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ASSIST. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A SLACK IN THE REAR, WHICH COULD BE REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE YOKE WITH A NICKEL PLATED COVER. THE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED BECAUSE THE CONTACT FEELS AS IF THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,350.
