TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT DROPPED TO THE FLOORBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,800.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY BRAKE LINES HAVE BUSTED OPEN !!!!!! THEY ARE ALL RUSTED OUT . MY ONLY RECOURSE IS TO REPLACE THEM ALL . THE FIRST TIME, I TOOK IT TO A DEALER THINKING THEY WOULD FIX IT RIGHT .BIG MISTAKE THEY PIECED IT TOGETHER WITH COMPRESSION FITTINGS FOR $400.00. AT LEAST I WASN'T MOVING FAST THANK GOD. THIS MUST BECOME A RECALL , IS ANYBODY LISTENING !!! *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON I-83 NORTH IN THE RIGHT LANE FROM BALTIMORE MD TO HERSHEY PARK PA. A DRIVER ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO MY LANE FROM THE MARKET ST ON RAMP IN YORK PA., AT VERY LOW SPEED CAUSED ME TO JAM ON THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHING IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR YIELDED NO RESULTS. I HAD NO BRAKING WHATSOEVER. LUCKILY THE CAR TRYING TO MERGE STAYED ON THE SHOULDER OR I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. I COASTED DOWN A LONG HILL - DOWNSHIFTING WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON, UNTIL I CAME UPON AN AVAILABLE SHOULDER TO PULL ONTO. CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND IT WAS HALF FULL. FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL A COUPLE FEET BEHIND THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. WITH PLENTY OF LEVEL SHOULDER TO TEST - I WENT UP AND BACK ABOUT 5 MPH TO SEE IF I HAD ANY BRAKES AT ALL AND DETERMINED THERE WERE NONE.. I WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND ENDED UP PAYING $973 TO HAVE THE 2 BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS UNIT, AND THE 2 LINES FROM THE ABS UNIT TO THE FRONT WHEEL REPLACED. I STILL NEED TO HAVE THE REAR LINES REPLACED ALTHOUGH THE MECHANIC SAID THEY LOOKED OK. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT JBA CHEVROLET GLEN BURNIE( USED ) HAS BEEN TITLED IN MD UNTIL JANUARY OF THIS YEAR VA. *TR
A CAR PULLED OUT FROM A SIDE STREET AND WHEN BRAKING PRESSURE WAS APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER DRIVING AROUND THE CAR AND FURTHER BRAKE PRESSURE THE TRUCK SLOWED. I ALSO HAD MY FUEL LINES REPLACED LAST YEAR. AND YES. THERE IS A LOT OF FRAME RUST IN THE FRAME AND OTHER AREAS. WHEN IS CHEVY GOING TO PONY UP. THIS HAPPENED TO MY FRIENDS TAKOMA AND THEY GAVE HIM $12000 FOR A 13 YEAR OLD TRUCK. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH CHEVY. *TR
HI I WAS HAULING DEBRIS FROM MY YARD AND TAKING TO LAND FILL.ABOUT 800 TO 900LBS TOTAL. STOPPED AT CONVENIENCE STORE FOR GAS AND FOOD. PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT, BRAKES GAVE OUT, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING LIGHTS. NO WARNING AT ALL...BARELY ANY BRAKES AT ALL. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GET ON EXPRESSWAY?? WOW! THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO STOPPING THIS THING IN AN EMERGENCY?? I SEE GM ALREADY KNOWS OF THIS FAILURE. I THINK A HEADS UP WOULD HAVE BEEN IN ORDER??? I'VE CALLED ALL THE PEOPLE I KNOW WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES. ONLY ONE PERSON WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HE HAS SPENT OVER A 1000.00 IN REPAIRS. REPLACED RUSTED BRAKE LINES. HE TOLD ME HE JUST REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION LINES ALSO. HAS ANYONE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED?? I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, JERRY'S CHEVROLET FOR INFORMATION. I PURCHASED IT NEW. WAITING FOR SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO RETURN MY CALL. *TR
BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKES FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. FAILURE OCCURED WITHOUT NOTICE. NO ACCIDENT RESULTED FROM FAILURE. INSPECTING THE REMAINING LINES REVEALED ALL WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF NEEDING REPLACED. *TR
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO MAKE A TURN, THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN, I PUMPED THE BRAKES WITH NO RESULT. I DOWN SHIFTED TO THIRD, THEN SECOND, TO FIRST AND MADE A TURN INTO AN UPHILL DRIVEWAY. UPON STOPPING, BRAKE FLUID LEAKED UNDER THE CAB. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME, AND I DID NOT CRASH! *TR
I STEPPED ON BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO FLOOR. HAD TO GO TO GARAGE AND REPLACE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAVE ASKED A FEW PEOPLE WHO OWN CHEVY PICKUPS AND THEY ALL HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM. *TR
BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WENT AT THE SAME TIME RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES DUE TO RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. SEVERE CORROSION ON FRAME CROSS MEMBER. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE BACKING MY BOAT TRAILER AT A BOAT LAUNCH. ALL LINES ARE ROTTED WHERE THEY ARE FASTENED TO DRIVERS SIDE INNER FRAME. BRAKE LINE BLEW NEAR GAS TANK WHERE IT IS FASTENED TO INNER SIDE OF FRAME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED FOR UNRELATED BODY DAMAGES WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS BROKEN. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND FILTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V005000 (POWER TRAIN: DRIVE LINE: DRIVE SHAFT). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 117,000. UPDATED 9/10/12 *CN UPDATED 09/18/12
THE FIRST BRAKE LINE FAILURE WAS IN JULY OF 2012 AND WAS FROM THE ABS TO THE REAR BRAKE HOSE, THIS ONE LINE COST $337.05 TO REPLACE. IT FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY AND I ALMOST RAN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE 2ND LINE FAILED YESTERDAY 10/5/16 WHILE DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD AND AGAIN WAS LOCATED ON THE ABS UNIT. IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. I BOUGHT A STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE KIT FROM DORMAN AND PLAN TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK SO AS WE DON'T GET KILLED OR HARM ANYONE WE RUN INTO ON THE NEXT FAILURE AS THE REMAINING LINES ARE VERY, VERY RUSTY. FUTURE FAILURE OF THE REST OF THE LINES IS BOTH IMMINENT AND EXPECTED. NHTSA PLEASE ACT SO AS TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM GETTING HURT OR EVEN KILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED OF A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK). THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND BOTH ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WAS GOING DOWN A STREET IN OUR CITY SOMEONE STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I TURNED TO AVOID A CRASH AND RAN INTO A FENCE. I CHECKED WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK HOME I NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE TRUCK WHEN I CHECKED IT WAS BRAKE FLUID. I REPLACED THE RUSTED LINE AND TWO WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO DIFFERENT BRAKE LINE,THE TRUCK IS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVE AND I CANT MOVE IT. *TR
ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT 10 MPH DRIVING STRAIGHT ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED, HAD NO BRAKES, PUT TRANSMISSION INTO 1ST GEAR STOPPED 1 FOOT FROM BUILDING. ALMOST WENT THROUGH PLATE GLASS WINDOW! I JUST CHANGED BOTH MY FRONT ANTILOCK SENSOR'S AND HAD NO EFFECT ON THE LOSS OF THE BRAKES, THEY JUST PULSED. OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2001 AND HAVE HAD TWO ANTILOCK BRAKE COMPUTERS REPLACES AT A COST OF $800.00 EACH TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL FRACTURED FROM THE AXLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO THE GUARD RAIL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 240,000. UPDATED 9/18/14*CN UPDATED 02/11/2015 *JS
THE HYDRAULIC PUMP SHAFT BROKE THE EVENING BEFORE VERY COMMON ON THESE TRUCKS AND CHEVROLET DID A LIMITED RECALL. AFTER REPLACING THE PUMP THE REAR MAIN BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND COULD NOT HANDLE THE PRESSURE OF THE NEW PUMP. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON RTE 3 IN NH I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND A CONSTRUCTION AREA HAD SLOWED TRAVEL ALL THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME SLOWED DOWN AND AS I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND MY TRUCK WAS SPEWING BRAKE FLUID FROM UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. UPON EXAMINATION I CAN SEE ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE MAN I HIT HAD A BACK INJURY THANK GOD I HAD MY SEATBELT ON! *TR
THE BRAKE LINES OF THE CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 HAVE ALL RUSTED OUT. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND BRAKE LINES HAVE CORRODED CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. SOME OF THE LINES WERE REPLACED WITHIN A FEW YEARS. BRAKE CALIPERS AFFECTED AS WELL. *JB *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES WHEN THEY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES WAS FRACTURED AND THE OTHERS WERE CORRODED FROM RUST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
WHILE TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON MD ROUTE 4, UPPER MARLBORO, MD, THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED TO YELLOW AS I WAS APPROACHING DOWERHOUSE ROAD INTERSECTION. I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO STOP AND THE PEDAL SUDDENLY DROPPED A FEW INCHES. I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE AND THE BRAKE SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST ALL BRAKE PEDAL USE. I BLEW MY HORN AS I WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AS THE LIGHT TURNED RED. I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THAT SLOWED MY VEHICLE AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED IT. UPON RETURNING MY VEHICLE TO MY RESIDENCE, EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT THE REAR METALLIC BRAKE LINE ALONG THE LEFT FRAME RAIL HAD RUSTED OR CORRODED THROUGH WHERE THE PLASTIC ANTI CHAFFING CLIP ATTACHED TO THE BRAKE LINE. FURTHER EXAM REVEALED THE FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD ALSO FAILED. THE FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED OR CORRODED AT THE FRONT CENTER PLASTIC CLIP ATTACHED TO THE LOWER CROSSMEMBER. THIS WAS A SIMULTANEOUS FAILURE OF BOTH BRAKE LINES FROM THE SAME BRAKING EVENT. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE IS A MODEL YEAR 2000, IT HAS ONLY 34,250 ORIGINAL MILES AND IS SELDOM USED IN THE WINTER TIME. IT IS PRIMARILY USED TO TOW MY BOAT AN AVERAGE OF 15 MILES ROUND TRIP TO THE BOAT RAMP. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IMMERSED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK, HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHO VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKES WERE ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOOR BOARD. IN ADDITION, BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM BENEATH THE DOOR. THE WAS NO WARNING TO INDICATE A FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BADLY INJURED HAD THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
MY BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING IN A PARKING LOT. CAREFULLY, I MADE IT HOME WITH NO BRAKES AND FOUND THE BRAKE LINES WERE ALL CORRODED AND LEAKED BRAKE FLUID. BRAKE LINES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MADE FROM NON-CORROSIVE MATERIAL. FIXING BRAKES ON THIS MODEL PICKUP IS A MASSIVE UNDERTAKING. ONE BRAKE LINE IS LOCATED UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK. *TR WHEN THE CONSUMER EXAMINED THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE, HE WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THE EXTENT OF CORROSION ON THE MEAL BRAKE LINE. HE WAS ALSO SHOCKED TO FIND THAT FOR ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES, HE HAD TO REMOVE THE TRUCK BED, IN ORDER TO SEE IT. THE FIRST RUPTURE OCCURRED ON THE LINE RUNNING FROM THE METERING OR PROPORTIONAL VALVE TO THE REAR BRAKES. THERE WAS NO WAY HE COULD SEE THAT AREA. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED DURING BLEEDING AND TESTING OF THE FIRST REPAIR. THE THIRD LEAK APPEARED BY THE MOVEMENT OF THE LINE DURING THE SECOND REPAIR. ALL WERE DUE TO CORROSION IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NON-CORROSIVE MATERIAL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE LOCATION OF THE BRAKE LINES AND THE MATERIALS USED WERE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND HE IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR PARTS AND LABOR. UPDATED 06/29/12. *JB
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN SHE WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES ON OUR 2000 CHEVY PICKUP WHEN THE BRAKE LINE ON THE TRUCK RUPTURED AND SHE COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. SHE THEN REARENDED THE JEEP IN FRONT OF HER CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. WE THEN HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO ARE RESIDENTS WERE I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO FIND THE LEAK AND HOW BADLY THE TRUCK HAD RUSTED LINES AND THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK. I FEEL THIS A LIVE AND DEATH PROBLEM TO ANY 1 DRIVING THESE VEHICLES AND IF MY WIFE HAD NOT TAKEN EVASIVE ACTION THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A DEATH INVOLVED. CHEVY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE ON LINE HAVE HAD THE SAME TROUBLES WITH THESE RUSTED LINES RUPTURING. *TR
TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AS I PUMPED BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE SLOWLY CAME TO STOP. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW BRAKE FLUID AROUND BRAKE LINES. I NOTICED RUST ON BRAKE LINES. MY WIFE PRESSED ON BRAKE PEDAL AS I SAW FLUID SPRAY FROM RUSTED AREA OF BRAKE LINE. *TR
BRAKE LINE CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LINE RUPTURED AND I LOST ALL BRAKING ABILITY. I NEEDED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK.
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO PULL OVER AND NOTICED THAT I FELT LESS PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS ABLE STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT NOTICE NO PUDDLES. RESUMED DRIVE HOME. CHECK FLUID RESERVOIR, FLUID ALMOST GONE. FILLED RESERVOIR AND PUMPED BRAKES BACK UP. NOTICED SOME DRIPS IN DRIVEWAY. ALSO NOTICED SLIGHT GAS SMELL. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC AND HE DETERMINED THAT NOT ONLY WAS THE BRAKE LINE ROTTED, THE GAS LINES WERE ROTTING OUT AS WELL. THE AREAS THAT WERE ROTTED THE MOST IS RIGHT WHERE THE SUPPORT BRACKETS ARE. THESE WERE UNDERNEATH DRIVER SIDE DOOR, HEADED UP INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT. LINES WERE REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES TO PREVENT FROM HAPPENING FURTHER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT INDEPENDENTLY RELEASED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
APPLYING BRAKES FOR SLOW TRAFFIC THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. RAN OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID HITTING VEHICLE IN FRONT. NOTED FAILURE OF REAR BRAKE STEEL LINE WHICH WAS HEAVILY RUSTED. NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT NO DIAGNOSIS WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

SITTING AT DRIVE THRU WINDOW WAITING ON FOOD WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WENT TO THE FLOOR ALL OF A SUDDEN AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE BURST. FLUID EVERYWHERE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW. *TR
RUSTED STEEL BRAKE LINE BURST LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES. FORTUNATELY(?) THIS OCCURRED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED AS BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO SHIFT TRANSMISSION OUT OF "PARK" . IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR COLLISION. UPON INSPECTION, ALL OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED, AND NEED TO BE REPLACED TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. 3 YEARS AGO, I HAD TO REPLACE CORRODED ROTORS DUE TO CORROSION AS WELL. FROM WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC FOR GM TRUCKS OF THIS ERA. IS GM LIABLE FOR THESE COSTLY REPAIRS? *JS
APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR. ON INSPECTION I COULD SEE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINE. TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHO TELLS ME ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST, AS WELL AS THE ABS AND CALIPER. I HAD THE ABS SENSORS REPLACED 2-3 YEARS AGO DUE TO RUST, AT A SERVICE CENTER NOT AT THE DEALER, AND NOW THE REPLACEMENT ONES ARE BAD. SO I'M THINKING GM IS USING SUBSTANDARD PARTS AND REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE EVEN MORE SUBSTANDARD. THE ABS SENSORS WERE ALREADY UNDER RECALL, I HAVING NOT UNDERSTOOD HOW RECALLS WORKED TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR THE REPAIRS AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE OF A RECALL, BEFORE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. SO WHEN I DID HAVE PROBLEMS THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE ALREADY EXHAUSTED; I INQUIRED WHAT THE DEALER DID WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM FOR RECALL; THE DEALER TOLD ME THE CLEANED THE ABS SENSORS TO SATISFY THE RECALL ORDER. SO 2-3 YEARS AGO I HAD THEM REPLACED WHEN THEY DID RUST AND FAIL, NOW THEY ARE ACTING UP AGAIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. SO NOW THEY WANT $3,200 TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES, CALIPER AND ABS. *KB
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF RESULTING IN PINGING NOISE. MY MECHANIC VERIFIED THE BROKEN BOLTS AND TOLD ME THIS COULD LEAD TO OTHER MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS INCLUDING POSSIBLE FIRE. HE ALSO SUGGESTED I SHOULD CONTACT A GM DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS JUST BREAK OFF. *TR

MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT, ALSO ONE OF MY GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AWAY, MY SPARE TIRE HOLDER RUSTED AWAY. BUT THE WORST THING IS MY REAR FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED AWAY!! THERE WERE 2 INCIDENTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON DIFFERENT PORTION OF BRAKE LINES ON MY CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 2000 EXTENDED CAB. IN BOTH INCIDENTS THE PROBLEM APPEARED WHILE BACKING OUT FROM MY DRIVE WAY. BOTH TIMES THERE WERE COMPLETELY NO BRAKES DUE TO RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THE PROBLEM DID NOT SHOW WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS INVOLVED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED ON DEC. 29 (OR 28), 2011. I WAS TAKING MY SON FOR HIS DENTIST APPOINTMENT AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I DID NOT REALIZE THE PROBLEM AT THE BEGINNING UNTIL I WAS OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND ON THE NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD AND TRYING TO STOP AT THE FIRST STOP SIGN. IT WAS REALLY REALLY SCARY BUT I MANAGED TO STOP MY VEHICLE. IT COST $364 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT WAS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE LINE. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED ON MARCH 18, 2014, WHILE I WAS GOING TO ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. I DID NOT GO ANY FURTHER THAN OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY. THIS TIME IT COST $1235 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE. *TR
APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AS IT TURNED YELLOW I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL GO TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NOT BRAKES, AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES I DID SLOW DOWN, BUT I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE LIGHT (WHICH WAS RED NOW.) WITH MY YELLOW FLASHING LIGHT ON. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE NEXT SAFE ZONE TO PULL OVER AND ASSESS THE BRAKES. FOUND A BROKEN BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVER SEAT ON TOP OF FRAME RAIL. *TR
HARD BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON DRIVER'S SIDE. SOFT PEDAL AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. EXORBITANT CORROSION OF LINES. ALL METAL LINES NEED REPLACEMENT ON INSPECTION. ALSO EXCESSIVE RUSTING OF ENTIRE UNDERSIDE OF VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET K3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS RUST ON THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE FAILURE AS THE CONTACT DESCRIBED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE FAILURE NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
HAD MULTIPLE BRAKE LINE FAILURES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. FIRST BEING THE MAIN LINE TO THE REAR BRAKES, THEN BRAKE LINE TO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, THEN LINE TO LEFT FRONT WHEEL. WHILE TRUCK WAS BEING WORKED ON IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FRAME RAIL WAS STARTING TO RUST THROUGH NEAR WHERE THE FRONT BUMPER MOUNTS, ALSO NOTICED RUST ON THE FRAME AT FRONT OF CAB AREA, THIS IS NOT SURFACE RUST, THIS IS RUSTED THROUGH THE FRAME AND HAS LARGE RUST SCALES. IT IS PRIMARILY IN THE AREA OF THE CAB AND FORWARD. FRAME SEEMS TO BE OKAY FROM THE CAB BACK, PROBLEM IS WHERE THE FRAME IS ENCLOSED. *TR
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHEN DRIVING DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. HAD ONE REPLACED EARLIER. NO PROPORTIONING. FRONT AND REAR FAILED TOGETHER. ONLY WAY TO STOP IS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE (WHICH HAD PREVIOUSLY FAILED AND BEEN REPAIRED). *TR
