I'VE HAD MULTIPLE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THIS VEHICLE OVER 2 YEARS. ONE OF THE FIRST CONCERN WAS MY HEADLIGHT DAYTIME BULBS MELTED TO THE HARNESS AND THE ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MELTED THRU THE NUMBER SO I STARTED CARRYING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER BEHIND THE DRIVER SEAT. BUT ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS INDECENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY WHEEL BEARING HUB GAVE OUT N THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO SUPPORT THE TIRE ONTO THE TRUCK SO MY FRONT DRIVER TIRE WENT FLYING OFF N MY TRUCK COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP INTO THE GROUND CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY SELF, MY FINDER, THE WHEEL SENSOR, N THE DRIVER DOOR. AFTER GETTING ALL THAT FIXED I'M AFRAID OF THE OTHER HUBS GIVING OUT. ALSO WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS AIR IN THE PEDAL N THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S BC THE SENSOR GOT DAMAGED OR IF THE ABS BOX IS DAMAGE FROM CORROSION AND MY EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS NEVER SEEM TO DO ANYTHING. I HAVE REPLACED MANY OF PARTS ON THIS TRUCK N WHEN I DO IT SEEMS LIKE ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER.
THE LOW BEAM SYLVANIA HEADLIGHT BULB IN MY 2001 CHEVROLET 2500 HD PICKUP TRUCK WENT BAD AND STARTED MY UNDER HOOD AREA OF MY TRUCK ON FIRE. MUCH OF THE UNDERHOOD EQUIPMENT WAS DAMAGED BEFORE I COULD PUT IT OUT. SYLVANIA TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT AND REFUSES TO COVER DAMAGES EVEN AFTER RECEIVING THE DEFECTIVE BULB AND MANY PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A BUMP, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS TO TURN OFF. HE TRIED TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS BACK ON, BUT THEY WOULDN'T POWER BACK ON. HE TURNED ON THE HIGH BEAMS AND THEY WOULD WORK, THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE LOW BEAMS. THE FOLLOWING DAY HE TOOK THE VEHICLE APART AND HE FOUND THAT THE WIRE THAT FEEDS THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND THE COMBINATION SWITCH HAD MELTED DUE TO A T WILT FUNCTION IN THE INSULATION AND HAD TURNED BLACK, WHICH WAS DUE TO HIGH HEAT. IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE DID THE REPAIR JOB HIMSELF, BUT HE BELIEVES THAT IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE ON ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
ON A RECENT VACATION TO CANADA, MY TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING ON MY 2001 SILVERADO. I CHECKED THE FUSE AND THE TURN SIGNAL RELAY AND BOTH WERE GOOD. I NARROWED THIS DOWN TO A BAD TURN SIGNAL MULTI-SWITCH. I ALSO HAD A SWITCH GO OUT ON MY 2002 SUBURBAN. AFTER TALKING TO A DEALER, THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON OTHER SILVERADO WITH THE SAME SWITCH. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS IS COSTING MY A LOT OF MONEY AND I ALMOST GOT INTO A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS ON THE WAY HOME BECAUSE I COULD NOT SIGNAL. *JB

I HAVE A 2001 DURAMAX. WHILE DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT FROM KALISPEL MT, I DIMMED MY LIGHTS FOR ANOTHER CAR AND MY LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO BACK TO BRIGHT THEN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SMOKE AND MY LIGHTS WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER CAUSING ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD. I PULLED THE COVER OFF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE DIMMER SWITCH WAS MELTED. I REPLACED IT AT $130. I KNOW MY WIFE'S 2002 IS DOING THE SAME THING. *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTING SYSTEM AT NIGHT. REPORTED AT 2:05 AM 4-20-02 TO ONSTAR AND TO THE DEALER IN APRIL. THEY TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THE COMPONENT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
IF DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE FOR SAFETY WHY IS IT THAT 2009 (NEW BODY STYLE) THRU APPROX,2004 THE RIGHT FRONT BULB BURNS OUT SO OFTEN.(THE LEFT ONE HAS NEVER BEEN REPLACED) S/N.THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF TV AND NEWSPAPER ADDS ABOUT PRODUCTS LIKE HEADLIGHT RESTORATION KITS.DEALERS HAVE SALES ON GETTING YOUR HEADLIGHTS BRITE AGAIN (FOR SAFETY REASONS) ISNT THIS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE AND WHY IS IT HAPPENING NOW.IF IT IS CHEAP PLASTIC THEN THE MANUFACTURER IS AT FAULT FOR CUTTING CORNERS
I BOUGHT THIS SILVERADO NOV. 2000, WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I HAD REPLACED MY LEFT FRONT DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT. TO DATE I HAVE REPLACE THIS SAME LEFT FRONT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT NO LESS THAN 9 TIMES. MY WIFE HAS A SUBURBAN AND IT IS A 2009 AND WE HAVE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT APPROX. 4 TIMES. YOU CAN NOT DRIVE DOWN A ROAD OR HIGHWAY AND LOOK AT AN ONCOMING CHEVY TRUCK/SUV WITHOUT SEEING A DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT OUT. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A NOTICE OR RECALL OF ANY TYPE. WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, CAUSING CONSUMER TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK *SLC
WHEN DRIVING 70MPH TURNED ON HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN FOG LIGHT POSITION, AND PUT SWITCH BACK ON, AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT POSITION FAILED. ALL LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED EXCEPT CLOCK AND GAUGE LEVER. AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT SWITCH SUPPOSE TO STAY ILLUMINATED WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WHILE DRIVING TRYING TO TURN ON FOG LIGHTS CONSUMER PUSHED DOME, OVERRIDING ONCE, CAUSING ALL OF LIGHTS TO SHUT OFF.*AKTHIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND RUN OF THE HIGHWAY, WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND HIT A TREE. MANUAL STATES THE DOME OVERIDE MUST BE PUSHED FOUR(4) TIMES WITHIN SIX(6) SECONDS. *JG

THIRD BRAKE LIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF VEHICLE HAS A DUMMIE LENS, AND WIRES ARE THERE, BUT NO LIGHT BULBS. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER FEELS THIS LIGHT SHOULD BE ON VEHICLE SO OTHER MOTORISTS CAN SEE HIM BETTER. *JB
