FAX FROM DETECTIVE RUSTY BRAKE LINES ON HIS 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK, INQUIRING WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONSUMER FOUND A HOLE HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PERFORMING ROUGHLY. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER COOLING DOWN. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V52100 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS BEING REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

HI, I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO I BOUGHT BRAND NEW. TODAY I HIT THE BRAKES PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE HIT THE FLOOR. THE LINE BLEW OUT. ALL OF MY LINES ARE RUSTED BADLY. IF YOU LOOK ON THE NET THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS RELATED TO THIS. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE AS I WAS ON MY WAY TO HAUL OUT MY 5,000 POUND BOAT! I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1500 SERIES, 2002 SILVERADO, RESIDING IN SOUTH FLORIDA. WHILE EXITING THE RAMP OFF THE HIGHWAY, AT 50 MPH, WITH A 7,600 POUND CAR TRAILER IN TOW, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR! ONLY WITH THE USE OF THE MANUAL OVERRIDE OF MY ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES WAS I ABLE TO STOP, AVOIDING A NEAR MISS COLLISION, AND A SERIOUS, PERHAPS FATAL ACCIDENT. IT WAS DETERMINED ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES LEAKED AND FAILED AS A "RUST AND CORROSION". THE VEHICLE HAD 52,300 AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, AND IN FLORIDA SINCE PURCHASING NEW. WITH THE HELP OF A FRIEND, A TEMPORARY REPAIR WAS MADE USING A COMPRESSION FITTING TO ALLOW US TO CONTINUE OUR 90 MILE TRIP HOME. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO CONFIRMED "RUST AND CORROSION" WAS THE CAUSE, HOWEVER THERE WERE NO RECALLS, OR WARRANTY, AND I WOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE COST OF $738.00 TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. AT THAT TIME I HAD LITTLE CHOICE BUT TO AUTHORIZE THEM TO PROCEED. HOWEVER AFTER COMPLETION OF THE WORK AND MY INSPECTION, THE LINES WERE INSTALLED USING INTERCONNECTING FITTINGS, AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS, AND NOT CONTINUOUS LINES AS WAS ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED BY THE FACTORY, NOR WAS PLACEMENT. I NOW QUESTION THE SAFETY OF THE REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THE WORK THEY PERFORMED WAS THE METHOD AUTHORIZED BY GM, AND CONTINUOUS LINES WERE NOT AVAILABLE FROM THE FACTORY. THIS IS PROBABLY BECAUSE GM DOES NOT OFFER THEM, AS THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THE MATERIAL USED FOR THE BRAKE LINES WERE OF VERY POOR QUALITY. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND CONTINUE TO AWAIT A RESPONSE FROM THEIR ENGINEERING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS FURTHER ADVISED THERE WAS NOTHING FURTHER THEY COULD DO, AND THE GM AREA REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED THAT WITH THEM. I QUESTION IF IT TAKES A NUMBER OF DEATHS AS A RESULT OF POOR QUALITY BRAKE LINES BEFORE GM TAKES SOME ACTION. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND MANY REPORTS RELATING TO THE SAME PROBLEM. MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATING AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN THE WHEELS WERE NOT ACTUALLY SLIDING. ALTHOUGH THE WHEELS WERE ACTING EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL BULLETIN 05068C, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT COVERED EVEN IF THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. I ALSO CALLED THE GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 800-630-2438 WHERE THEY ALSO SAID MY TRUCK IS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH THE VIN IS WITHIN THE BRACKETS IN THE RECALL. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER OF 71-774131746. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO LARSON CHEVROLET IN SUPERIOR, WI ON NOVEMBER 10, 2009 WHERE THEY INSPECTED MY FRONT WHEELS AND FOUND THE CORROSION DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. I HAD THEM REPAIR THE CORROSION AT MY EXPENSE. I THEN CONTACTED CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AGAIN AND THEY AGREED TO FORWARD MY CASE TO A DISTRICT SPECIALIST. AFTER A COUPLE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DISTRICT SPECIALIST ISAAC I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE 3/4 TON TRUCKS WERE EXCLUDED. NO REASON FOR EXCLUDING 3/4 TON TRUCKS WAS GIVEN. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT GM WAS IN ERROR WHEN 3/4 TON TRUCKS WERE EXCLUDED BECAUSE MY TRUCK HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE RECALL EXPANDED TO INCLUDE 3/4 TON TRUCKS AND TO HAVE MY EXPENSES OF $206.47 REIMBURSED. *TR
OBSERVED FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE TRUCK ONTO THE DRIVEWAY, AND DETERMINED THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD DEVELOPED A LEAK. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. I HAD THIS REPAIR PERFORMED NOVEMBER 10, 2009, AT A COST TO ME OF $574.61. I STILL OWN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
BRAKE LINES DEVELOPED A LEAK DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. ALL LINES FROM THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER TO EACH WHEEL AND TO THE ABS UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED, INCLUDING THE FLEXIBLE LINES. THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND AFTER NOTICING BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THE LOSS OF FLUID IN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. *TR
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN RECALL FOR FRONT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, RECALL WAS ALLEGEDLY PERFORMED 6/21/05. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT APPLIED BRAKES WHILE TURNING IN, ABS ENGAGED AT A LOW SPEED, APPROX. 2 MPH, AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, COLLIDED WITH TWO CONCRETE POSTS THAT WERE PROTECTING THE GAS METER FOR THE BUILDING DAMAGING THE FRONT BUMPER AND IMPACT STRIP. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL WAS EVER PERFORMED. VEHICLE IS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB 4X4. *TR
ABS SLOW STOP ACTIVATION, A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS AND SUV,S, CHEVROLET HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND SOME MODELS RECALLED FOR THE SAME DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT IN THE VEHICLE ILLUMINATED AND WHEN THAT OCCURRED THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT A LOW SPEED RANGE, 5 TO 20 MPH; HE FURTHER NOTED THAT THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE. WHEN HE LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DURING THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN STOP BUT THE ABS LIGHT WOULD STAY ON LONGER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AT THE TIME THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED TO-DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,260. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000. UPDATED 3/16/10 *CN UPDATED 05/10/10*JB
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT HAS A CLUNKING/KNOCKING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEELS AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500. IN PARKING LOT, PRESSED BRAKE AND TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY SUBURBAN AND ANOTHER CAR RESULTING IN AN INSURANDE SURDHARGE FOR ACCIDENT OVER $2500. DEALER, MIRAK CHEVROLET OF ARLINGTON MA COULD NOT FIND DEFECT. UPON BRAKING TODAY,I FELT A SURGE FORWARD BUT NO ACCIDENT THIS TIME. PLEASE ADVISE OF ANY PAST RECALLS OR SIMILAR INCIDENTS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDOWS WERE MANUFACTURED BY C. R. LAURENCE COMPANY IN HOUSTON TEXAS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE PARKING I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I PARKED AND GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT OF THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. THE BRAKE LINE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I HAD THE LINE REPLACED BUT THE OTHER LINES ARE ALSO LOOKING RUSTED. I DO NOT USE MY VEHICLE OFF ROAD OR LONG DISTANCE DRIVING, JUST AROUND TOWN. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE AND LOSS OF BRAKING DUE TO CORROSION OF REAR BRAKE LINES. BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THRU. ALL BRAKE LINES HAVE SEVERE CORROSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE FRONT BRAKE SENSOR HAS FAILED BECAUSE OF CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
AFTER TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR SIXTY MILES, THE TRUCK WAS BAKED FOR TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY EXIT. THE BAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK DID SLOW DOWN, BUT BRAKING WAS NOT NORMAL. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES COMING THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS AND FROM THE ABS TO THE FRONT BRAKES WERE RUSTED AND ONE LINE HAD A HOLE AND WAS LEAKING. FOUR BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. WHILE COASTING TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. I SAW THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ON THE POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE ON 99-03 PICKUP TRUCKS. THIS HAPPENED TO MY SON IN MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO IN MY DRIVEWAY WHICH IS ABOUT 100 FEET LONG. HE PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY HE WAS GOING SLOW. THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID IN THE DRIVEWAY. I WAS OUTSIDE AT THE TIME AND GOT IN AND PUMPED THE BRAKES. NONE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY REPLACE A DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINE. YOUR ARTICLE HAS MADE ME FEARFUL FOR MY FAMILY. *TR
I HAVE A 2002, CHEVROLET C2500HD PICKUP. THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE THE REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING GREASE ONTO THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES. THIS PROBLEM STARTED AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES. THE CHEVROLET DEALER SAID THERE ARE NO SERVICE DIFFICULTY REPORTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM SO THEY WON'T FIX IT. THE DEALER SAID THE REAR AXLE VENT IS OKAY AND THE AXLE IS NOT OVER FILLED. THE REAR AXLE SEALS SHOULD NOT BE LEAKING AT THIS LOW MILEAGE (BOTH AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING). THE PICKUP HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR, NO OFF ROAD USE, MOSTLY LIGHT PASSENGER HIGHWAY SERVICE WITH JUST A LITTLE TRAILER TOWING. THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE NOT NOISY AND HAVE VERY LITTLE PLAY. *TR
ABS RECALL FOR 2002 CHEVY PICKUPS ISSUED IN SEP 2005. ISSUE WAS WHILE I WAS IN SLOW MOVING 3 TO 5 MPH ABS SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE AND CAN CAUSE A POTENTIAL CRASH. RECALL WAS TO PERFORM A INSPECTION OF THE ABS SYSTEM. CLEAN AND APPLY A RUST PREVENTIVE AND CONFIRM SENSOR WAS RECEIVING PROPER SIGNAL. MY PICKUP WAS SERVICED AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN NOVEMBER 2005. THIS PICKUP WAS NOT HAVING ANY ISSUES WITH ABS SYSTEM AT THAT TIME OF SERVICE. THE DEALERSHIP CHANGE OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR (DUE TO RUST) AND PERFORMED THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON THE DRIVER SIDE. NOW 36,000 MILES LATER I ALMOST HAD TWO ACCIDENTS IN THE SAME DAY DUE TO THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATION WHILE STOPPING IN SLOW SPEED. (I CAN DETAIL THE POTENTIAL ACCIDENT LATER) THE ABS WAS ONLY COMING ON AT RANDOM AND NOT ALL THE TIME. I FOUND OUT FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND G.M. ONCE THE PICKUP WAS SERVICE THE RECALL HAD BEEN TAKEN CARE ANY OTHER ISSUES IF UP TO THE OWNER TO TAKE CARE OF. MY COMPLAINT IS IN JUST CLEANING AND PUTTING RUST PREVENTIVE IN PLACE IS NOT A LONG TERM FIX BUT ONLY TEMPORARY FIX AND THE SAFETY ISSUE STILL EXIST IN THE SALT BELT STATES. THE TEST METHOD IS TO HOOKING THE SYSTEM UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION. THIS TEST SHOWED THE SENSOR WAS DROPPING OFF AT A LOW RPM AND CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVE. THE ISSUE CAN BE CAUSED BY RUST COATING THE SENSOR FACE OR THE RECEIVER FACE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS PLANNING TO CHANGE THE SENSOR BEFORE EVEN TESTING TO BE DEFECTIVE. BECAUSE IT IS LIKELY THE SENSOR WILL BE DAMAGED IN THE REMOVAL PROCESS. MY POINT IS, THIS CAN AND WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND IS A HIGH RISK TO DAMAGE. PROPERTY, PERSONS. IN THIS CASE THE RECALL FIX ONLY LASTED 36,000 MILES. I ONLY HAVE 86,000 MILE TOTAL ON THIS PICKUP. MY FAMILY AND OTHER FAMILIES ARE AT RISK WITH OUT A PERMANANT FIX TO THIS ABS SYSTEM. IS A ONE TIME RECALL FIX THE NORMAL WITH OEM'S ON RECALL EVEN THOUGHT THE FIX DID NOT FULLY FIX THE RECALL ISSUE? PLEASE REVIEW AND GET BACK WITH ME. *TR

WHILE TOWING AN 8000LB HORSE TRAILER AT SLOW SPEEDS, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND THE BRAKE LINE AT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL BROKE AND LEAKED, LEAVING ME ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH NO STOPPING POWER. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON A 2002 WELL MAINTAINED,RECENTLY CHECKED OVER 2500HD. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE SITUATION, AND ONE THAT SOUNDS COMMONPLACE. *TR
CORRODED BRAKE LINES CAUSED THE FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. INOPERABLE REAR EMERGENCY BRAKES PROVIDED NO EMERGENCY STOPPING ABILITY. REPLACED BRAKE LINES. EMERGENCY BRAKE NOT REPAIRED. I UNDERSTAND THAT TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS WERE RECALLED FOR EMERGENCY BRAKE DEFECT CORRECTION, BUT TRUCKS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS WERE NOT EVENTHOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. NOT CERTAIN WHEN EMERGENCY BRAKES BECAME INOPERABLE, BUT MY GUESS IS AROUND 2004 OR 2005, WITH 60K TO70K MILES. BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WAS IN 2009 AT 156K MILES. *TR
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO C1500 PLASTIC CLUTCH PEDAL AND PLASTIC SLATE CYLINDER HAS BROKEN APART TWICE. ONCE AROUND 80,000 MILES AND 128,000 ENDANGER MY LIFE ONCE ON THE FREEWAY AND ON HEAVY STREET TRAFFIC . I FEEL THAT THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS DANGER TO MY HEALTH. I KNOW THESE PART SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED OR APPROVED. SINCE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I FEEL THESE PLASTIC DO NOT BELONG IN THE POWERTRAIN SYSTEM PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEMS I HAVE TWO PLASTIC CLUTCH OLD PARTS FOR PROOF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.
ABS BRAKES ENGAGE AT SLOW SPEEDS (UNDER 10MPH) WHILE COMING TO A STOP. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THE ABS ACTIVATES AND THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD A FEW FEET UNTIL THE NORMAL BRAKING ACTIVATES. THIS EXACT COMPLAINT WAS ADDRESSED BY CHEVROLET ON SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN 05058C AND THIS REPAIR WAS COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE BACK IN 2005. THE DESIGN OF THE HUB ALLOWS THE RELUCTOR WHEEL TO RUST WHICH IN TURN DOESN'T ALLOW THE SPEED SENSOR TO ACHIEVE A CORRECT READING AND HAS CREATED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS ADDRESSED IN THE ORIGINAL SAFETY RECALL. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE LINE ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD RUSTED OUT AND FAILED WHILE TOWING MY FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER.FORTUNATLY THE CAMPER BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT. I CURRENTLY DRIVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD WITH AN 8.1L ENGINE. I'VE NOW TAKEN MY TRUCK INTO FOUR DIFFERENT MECHANICS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. MY TRUCK WILL RANDOMLY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I'VE HAD IT SHUT OFF AT STOPLIGHTS, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, DRIVING AROUND TOWN, AND EVERYTHING IN-BETWEEN. OCCASIONALLY, IT WON'T EVEN START. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO TURN OVER BUT TO NO AVAIL. AND WHEN IT STOPS, IT TAKES ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO FINALLY GET IT RESTARTED AND DRIVING AGAIN. OF COURSE, NO MECHANIC CAN EVER FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG SINCE IT WON'T ACT UP IN THE SHOP. I'VE HAD THEM TELL ME IT COULD BE A HOST OF THINGS FROM AIR PROBLEMS TO FUEL LINE PROBLEMS TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES. NO ONE CAN GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER. I'VE EVEN HAD ONE MECHANIC DROP MY FUEL TANK TO INSPECT THE PUMP TO SEE IF IT'S THE PROBLEM. EVEN THEN, NOTHING ACTED UP. THERE NOW IS A CODE SHOWING UP SAYING MY CRANK SENSOR IS FAULTY. ALMOST EVERY MECHANIC IS CONVINCED IT'S MY FUEL PUMP BUT I HAVE GREAT PRESSURE IN THE LINES. I'VE NOTICED SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH MY SAME YEAR AND ENGINE HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AT ABOUT 11:30 AM ON TUESDAY JULY 28, 2009, I STOPPED AT A LIGHT. THE TRUCK CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SUDDENLY I FELT THE ABS KICK IN. THE TRUCK WENT FORWARD, WITHOUT MY TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE, INTO THE INTERSECTION. IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. A CAR HAD TO SERVE TO AVOID HITTING ME. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DUNLAP-JOHNSON CHEVROLET CO.,INC. 919 E LIBERTY ST , YORK, SC 29745-2689 (803) 792-4152. CHEVROLET WAS CALLED AT 1-800-222-1020 AND CASE # 71-742-720900 WAS OPENED. I WAS CONTACTED ON JULY 21 BY CAROLINE LUCERO FROM CHEVROLET WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED BECAUSE OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS IN THE NE UNITED STATES. HAVING BRAKE LINES THAT CAN FAIL WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOORBOARD WHILE PROVIDING NO STOPPING EFFORT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THIS INSTANCE; HOWEVER I SUSPECT THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE IS PREMATURE BASED ON THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE MATERIALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC SUSPECTED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR; THE MECHANIC COULD NOT PRODUCE ANY CODES AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRUCK, FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON, SHUT DOWN CAUSING ME TO LOOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE CAPABILITY. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN TO RE-START THE TRUCK. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE DONE THE SAME THING EACH TIME TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED ONCE IN 2009 AND TWICE IN 2010. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES PER YEAR AT RANDOM TIMES. GM HAS TOLD ME IN THE PAST THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD CAUSE THAT ISSUE. I COULD NOT GET MY LOCAL CHEVROLET SHOP MANAGER TO GIVE ME A STRAIGHT YES OR NO ANSWER REGARDING WHETHER MY PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT WITH THE ISSUES BEING EXPERIENCED BY EFFECTED GM MODELS WITH IGNITION PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE IT MAY BE DUE TO THE RECALLED IGNITION SWITCHES AS I HAVE HAD THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM LOOKED AT AND NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND AN ISSUE THAT WOULD CAUSE THE TRUCK TO SHUT OFF RANDOMLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THEN TURN RIGHT BACK OVER AFTER SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL!! SHORTLY AFTER THAT WHILE COMING TO A STOP I PRESSED THE BRAKES HARDER AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD VERY LITTLE TO NO STOPPING. I HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK AND GET IT OFF THE ROAD. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS BOX RUSTED OUT. THIS TRUCK IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER AND RARELY WILL SEE A ROAD WHEN THERE IS SALT ON IT. WITH THIS FEW OF MILES I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD HAPPEN DUE TO THE FACT THAT I WAS LUCKY AND COULD HAVE BEEN IN A BAD ACCIDENT.
