The contact had the tires rotated by an independent mechanic. Upon inspection of the tires, the contact discovered cracks along the base of the tire treads on all four tires. The contact notified the mechanic about the defect and was given a credit for the remaining mileage on the tires warranty. The contact notified the manufacturer about the failure through voicemail and email; however, the contact never received a response. The contact stated that the four tires were replaced. The tire failure mileage was 21,942. The vehicle failure mileage was 342,422.

THE CONTACT STATED HE EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE FOR A SECOND TIME ON 10/24/2020 TO THE REAR PASSENGER'S TIRE AND A THIRD TIME ON 11/9/2020 ON ANOTHER REAR TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. 265/65/16 MICHELIN LTX M/S2 TIRE, THESE TIRES WERE NEW AND PURCHASED ON 6/21/16, ON 7/11/16 LESS THEN ONE MONTH I HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE 3 ROWS OF TREADS IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL FOUR TIRES BECAME SEVERELY SEPARATED AND WORN RENDERING ALL FOUR TIRES AS JUNK CAUSING THE PICKUP TO SHAKE BADLY WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE MICHELIN DIDN'T WANT HONOR ANY WARRANTIES, CLAIMS, ETC., INCLUDING THE MICHELIN PLUS GUARANTY. THIS IS WHERE IF YOU ARE NOT 100% SATISFIED WITHIN 30 DAYS YOU CAN GET A REPLACEMENT FREE. AFTER ONE BRAKING INCIDENT ALL THE TIRES WAS JUNK. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TIRES TO ANYONE. THE TREAD PATTERN OF THESE TIRES IS THE DIRECT CAUSE. I ALSO HAVE PICTURES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THIS STARTED IN 2007 WITH THE PURCHASE OF GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES. THEY HAVE FAILED IN 2009 (PAID TO REPLACE), 2013, 2014. THESE TIRE ARE USED ON MY2003 CHEVROLET 2500 DIESEL PICKUP AND WE PULL A 5TH WHEEL. THE TIRES CONTINUE TO SEPARATE AND THE LAST INCIDENT WAS ON MARCH 6TH, 2014. THIS HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT IT COULD. WE WERE TRAVELING TO PHOENIX AZ FROM GRAPEVINE, TX WHEN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT BETWEEN ALBUQUERQUE NM AND GRANTS NM. THE TIRE WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE IN SEP 2012 AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 18000 MILES. IN AUGUST OF 2013 I HAD TO REPLACE 3 MORE TIRES BECAUSE OF TREAD SEPARATION. GOODYEAR WILL REPLACE THEM FOR A PRICE AND IT'S STARTING TO GET VERY COSTLY. THEY REIMBURSE FOR ABOUT 20% OF THE COST OF A TIRE. I WILL BUY NEW TIRES BUT NOT GOODYEAR. THEY ARE DANGEROUS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE TREAD ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE SEPARATED AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO EXPLODE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STRUT SUPPORT RODS AND THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT BECAME DAMAGED FROM THE TIRE FAILURE. THE CONTACT SHIPPED THE TIRE TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY INSPECTED THE TIRE AND NOTICED THAT AN OBJECT HAD STRUCK THE TIRE AND CAUSED THE TREAD SEPARATION FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS 23,000. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,900. UPDATED 12/31/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED EBERHARDT TIRE WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THAT TIRE AND WAS GIVEN THE INFORMATION TO REACH MICHELIN NORTH AMERICA. A MICHELIN REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE NOT APART OF THEIR VOLUNTARY RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN A CLAIM NUMBER AND CLAIM PACKET ANYWAY. EBERHARDT AND THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD A LARGE PROTRUSION ON THE OUTER EDGE. THIS TIRE WAS IN THE COURSE SEPARATING.. THIS INFORMATION WAS DOCUMENTED ON THE REPLACEMENT RECEIPT FROM EBERHARDT'S TIRE. MICHELIN DENIED THE PROPERTY DAMAGE CLAIM CAUSED BY THE LEFT REAR TIRE. TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY, APPROX 70MPH, VALVE STEM SEPARATED FROM NEW TIRE CAUSING COMPLETE DEFLATION WITHIN ABOUT 2 OR 3 MINS. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF HITTING SOMETHING IN ROAD, NO TRAUMA TO RIM OR STEM ITSELF (OTHER THAN THE SHARP SPLIT FROM WHERE IT SEPARATED FROM TIRE), NO EXTREME CONDITIONS, JUST NORMAL CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. TIRE WAS LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OLD WITH LESS THAN 2,000 MILES. TOOK TIRE TO GOODYEAR SERVICE CENTER. THEY REPLACED TIRE AND VALVE STEM WITH NEW ONE. OLD TIRE AND STEM LEFT WITH GOODYEAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION IN THE STEERING. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD SEPARATED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE AND TOOK THE FAILED TIRE TO THE TIRE SHOP. THE TIRE SHOP REPLACED THE TIRE UNDER WARRANTY. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12T003000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. TREAD ON MICHELIN LTX M/S SEPARATED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL AND QUARTER PANEL OF MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO. THE TIRE HAD LESS THAN 18,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS PROPERLY INFLATED BEFORE THE TRIP BEGAN. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED AT APPROX. 60 - 65 MPH AND THE TRUCK WAS STEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. PURCHASED 2 NEW(?) WRANGLER ST TIRES FROM DEALER ON 11/09/2005 BUT DATE CODE ON TIRE WAS 2504 TO MATCH ORIGINAL 2 STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. BREAKS REDONE FRONT END ALIGNMENT PERFORMED. FRONT END OF TRUCK STILL VIBRATED AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON LEVEL ROAD. DEALER TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO IDENTIFY CAUSE OVER 2-3 YEARS. BALANCED AND REBALANCED THE TIRES. DID HIGH SPEED TEST IN SHOP. SUSPECTED TIRES, BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY EXACT PROBLEM WITH TIRES. ON 30 OCT. 2010 WHILE TRAVELING @ 70MPH ON CLEAR DAY ON STRAIGHT INTERSTATE ROAD, FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED. ROAD WAS CLEAR, NOTHING WAS STRUCK BY TIRE, OUTSIDE TEMP WAS ABOUT 73 DEGREES F. TIRE WAS SHREDDED TO BITS AND ONLY HAD ABOUT 31K MILES ON IT. PLENTY OF TREAD AND NO UNUSUAL WEAR PATTERNS. TOOK TIRE TO DEALER AND REPLACED BOTH FRONT TIRES WITH COOPERS AND NOW THERE IS NO VIBRATION IN THE FRONT COMING FROM THE TIRES. *TR
COULD NOT REMOVE SPARE TIRE FROM VEHICLE. THE CABLE LOWERED THE TIRE UNTIL THE SECONDARY CATCH RESTRICTED THE LOWERING ANY FURTHER. FOLLOWED OWNERS MANUAL TO RESOLVE ISSUE, DID NOT WORK. CRANKED SPARE TIRE BACK TO MOUNTED POSITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, THEY HAD TO CUT THE CABLE AND UNBOLTED THE MECHANISM FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SECONDARY CATCH WAS ACCESSED AND RELEASED FROM THE SIDE. THE UNIT IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL AND A NEW UNIT IS WELL OVER $100. I NOW HAVE ACCESS TO THE SPARE BUT NOT THE FACTORY MOUNTING POSITION. TIRE BELT FAILURE, WITH TREAD SEPARATION . I PURCHASED A MATCHED SET OF FOUR COOPER DISCOVERER ATR M&S LT265/75R16 TIRES BRAND NEW. THEY HAVE BEEN REGULARLY CHECKED FOR AIR PRESSURE AND BALANCED AN ROTATED. ON JUNE 28,2008, 26 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE AND WITH ABOUT 24000 MILES ON THEM THE FRONT LEFT TIRE FAILED . I REPLACED TIRE WITH SPARE. ON 10/10/08 WITH ABOUT 27000 MILES ON IT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER. WITH 2 OF 4 TIRES COMING APART IN TIS MANNER, I REMOVED THE REMAINING TIRES AS I FEEL THERE MUST BE A DEFECT. THEY ARE UNSAFE AND I HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH NEW FIRESTONE TIRES. *TR

SHE CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT WHAT EXCEEDED DEFLECTION MEANT AND THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THIS REFERRED TO HER VEHICLE'S WEIGHT OVERLOAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE THAT WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE WAS A BRAND NEW SPARE TIRE. THE TIRE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED. THE FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,890 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,900.
