UPON EXITING HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH, I APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRIED TO PUMP WITH NO RESULTS. THIS WAS A SINGLE LANE EXIT RAMP WITH A CAR TURNING LEFT AND ONE TURNING RIGHT AT THE END OF THE RAMP. STILL AT APPROX. 60 MPH I HAD NOWHERE TO GO. DOWN SHIFT TO 2ND AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE. FINALLY ONE CAR TURNS AND I BLAST THROUGH INTERSECTION ABOUT 40-45MPH AND JUST MISSED T-BONING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS I WENT DOWN THE ENTRANCE RAMP BACK ONTO HWY. I WAS ABLE TO BRING TRUCK TO A STOP. LATER INSPECTION OF TRUCK SHOWED ALL 4 BRAKE LINES FROM ABS TO FRONT OF TRUCK SEVERELY RUSTED WITH ONE RUPTURED. REAR BRAKE LINE ALSO RUSTED. G.M. NEED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. AT THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELING I HAD SECONDS TO MAKE A DECISION. I WAS LUCKY THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME TURNED AND I MISSED THE CAR ON THE CROSSROAD. THIS TRUCK HAS 85,XXX MILES AND HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN IN SNOW OR BAD WEATHER MAYBE A HALF DOZEN TIMES DURING ITS LIFE SO CORROSION SHOULD HOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE. I'VE OWNED MANY CARS WITH 200,000 PLUS MILES AND NEVER HAD BRAKE LINE ISSUES. I BELIEVE WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS I READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YOU NEED TO FORCE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS DISABLED FOR THE REST OF THERE LIFE, OR SOMEONE LOSES A FAMILY MEMBER!!!
ON THE 17TH OF AUG., 2017, I WAS ON MY WAY CAMPING PULLING A 28 FT RV WITH MY 3/4 TON CHEV PU, WHEN MY LEFT REAR TIRE WENT FLAT. I PUT ON THE SPARE TIRE AND DROVE 12 MILES AND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT, THE NEXT DAY I WENT INTO A TIRE SHOP FOR NEW TIRES AND MY OTHER TWO GOOD TIRES WERE BOTH LEAKING AT THE VALUE STEM. THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS THE TIRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, ALL THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WARNING INDICATORS FLASHED. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
CRACKED DASH, JUST CRACKED, FOUND BY HEARING A NOISE THEN NOTICED THE CRACK, CONCERN IS AIR BAG MAY MAKE IF DEPLOYED FLYING DEBRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER WHEN HE OBSERVED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD SEIZED AND TOOK GREAT EFFORT TO TURN. ALSO, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP USING THE FIFTH WHEEL CAMPING TRAILER THAT WAS HITCHED WITH ELECTRONIC BRAKES TO SLOW AND EVENTUALLY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT AND IDLER PULLEY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,041.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING, HAD HEAVY GAS FUMES WHEN DRIVING AND AFTER TURNING ENG OFF, NOW I'M SEEING GAS LEAKING ON PAVEMENT COMING FROM UNDERNEATH AND BETWEEN CAB AND BED, FUMES ARE VERY STRONG, THERE'S SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH DASH LIGHTS AND STARTING TRUCK IS NOW NOT WANTING TO START 1ST TRY
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO CREW CAB AND MY SERVICE SHOP HAS DETERMINED THE CLUSTER PANEL IS FAULTY IT PRESENTS MISREADINGS WHICH IS CAUSING ERROR CODES READINGS IN THE COMPUTER. THEY TESTED THE OIL PRESSURE AND THE TACH AND SAID THE COMPONENTS WERE WORKING CORRECTLY WITH IN RANGE IN SPITE OF THE FACT THE GAUGE DIALS ON THE PANEL WERE SHOWING THINGS WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY OR WITH IN RANGE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE TACHOMETER GAUGE DIAL PERIODICALLY EITHER DOES NOT REGISTER IT WILL STAY AT ZERO, OTHER TIMES IT WILL EXCEED ABOVE THE HIGHEST # ON THE PANEL. THE OIL GAUGE DIAL STAYS CONSISTENTLY IN THE SAME POSITION WHICH EXCEEDS ABOVE THE HIGHEST # READING LEVEL ON THE PANEL. PERIODICALLY THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAYS ON FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THEN IT WILL GO OFF FOR ABOUT 3-6 MONTHS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, HOW ARE DRIVERS TO KNOW IF SOMETHING IS TRULY WRONG WITH THE TRUCK WHEN THE CLUSTER PANEL IS NOT PRESENTING THE CORRECT READING. WE DEPEND ON THE CLUSTER PANEL TO ALERT US WHEN SOMETHING IS GOING AWRY. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY RAN INTO THIS ISSUE WITH MY TRUCK AND IT ONLY HAS APPROX 50,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY STARTED WORKING WITH THE CHEVY COMPANY BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL SO FAR IN GETTING ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THIS AND I AM TOLD IT WILL BE APPROX $800.00 TO R & R IT. I TRULY HOPE THAT OTHER OWNERS WILL COME FORWARD WITH THIS ISSUE AND IF WE STAND TOGETHER WE CAN CONVENIENCE CHEVROLET THAT THEY NEED TO STAND BEHIND THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT AND PROVIDE US WITH SOME TYPE OF COMPENSATION FOR THIS ISSUE. THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ARE BADLY CORRODED AND ONE OF THEM HAS FAILED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I LIVE IN KENTUCKY AND I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW. WE RECEIVE A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF BAD WINTER WEATHER HERE SO I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY SALT. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY 13 YEARS OLD.
BRAKES FAILED ON HIGHWAY DUE TO RUSTED LINES. BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. BRAKE LINE WAS SO RUSTED IT HAD A HUGE HOLE IN IT DUE TO THE RUST.
WHEN BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 5-10 MPH THE ABS ACTIVATES PREVENTING SAFE STOPPING.
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATES DUE TO CORRODED FRONT IMPACT SENSORS.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65-70 MPH TRUCK SHUT OFF NO POWER STEERING NO BRAKES SHOWING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" ALMOST GOT INTO A WRECK WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD SON AND 70 YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER...I STILL OWE $10,000 ON THIS HUNK OF CRAP...IT WENT AWAY AFTER A BROKEN WIRE WAS FIXED....BUT AS I SIT HERE IN MY TRUCK AT 3 AM BECAUSE I HAD TO MOVE IT I STARTED IT UP AND ONCE AGAIN REDUCED ENGINE POWER...JUST SO FRUSTRATING
BRAKE LINES HAVE STARTED RUSTING OUT. ONLY 120K ON THE TRUCK. CALLED GM. GM WILL NOT HELP WITH THIS KNOWN ISSUE OF THE BRAKE LINES CORRODING. HAD 1LINE FIXED AFTER IT BLEW COMING TO A STOP BY MY HOUSE. SECOND LINE BLEW YESTERDAY SLOWING DOWN WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY
VEHICLE IS LEAKING COOLANT WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE. NO EXTERNAL LEAKS WHAT SO EVER. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC THAT DETERMINED IT WAS A CRACKED HEAD CAUSED BY A BAD CASTECH HEAD. THERE IS COOLANT LEAKING INTO MY OIL BECAUSE OF THIS.
REAR BRAKE LINE BUSTED ON 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. REALLY DANGEROUS! HAD TO HIT THE CURB TO STOP! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE STEEL BRAKE LINES! IN THE SHOP NOW TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES THAT ARE FAULTY! A COST THAT SHOULD BE PAID BY GM NOT THE CONSUMER OF A FAULTY PRODUCT! *TR
THE ABS KICKS IN AT SPEEDS UNDER 5 MPH ON DRIVE PAVEMENT
WHILE TOWING A BOAT REAR BRAKE LINE BURST LOSING BRAKES THANK GOD I HAD ROOM TO HIT E BRAKE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON A BACK ROAD
BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUSTED & CORRODED BRAKE LINES RESULTING IN COSTLY REPAIRS. LUCKILY MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 WAS STATIONARY WHEN BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND I WAS NOT TOWING A TRAILER OR LOADED WITH CARGO AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. THE ABS PUMP ALSO FAILED PRIOR TO LINE FAILURE. MY FATHER IN LAW HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE SAME MODEL YEAR 1500. WHY DOES GM NOT USE STAINLESS BRAKE LINES FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE ENGINE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000. UPDATED 02/24/17*LJ UPDATED 7/11/18*JB *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. DRIVING DOWN A SHORT HILL, BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED COMPLETELY TO FLOOR WITH NO BRAKE RESPONSE OR STOPPING AVAILABILITY. DRIVING @ APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD LITTLE EFFECT AND HAD TO TURN INTO A DIRT HILL TO STOP THE TRUCK. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, 4 BRAKE LINES DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE CAB ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED WITH 2 LINES FAILING SIMULTANEOUSLY RELEASING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE GROUND. THE 2 LINES FROM THE PROPORTIONING VALVE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO THE ABS AND THE 2 LINES FROM THE ABS TO THE 2 FRONT WHEELS RUN PARALLEL UNDER THE CAB AND ARE SEVERELY CORRODED IN 2 PLACES ONLY. THE 4 LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AT THE POINT OF THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT SECURE THE LINES TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HOLD THE BRAKE LINES HOLD MOISTURE AND SALT AND CAUSE ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO CORRODE AT THOSE POINTS. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE IS NO RUST IN THE LINES TO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK OR AT BOTH REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I CLEAN THE UNDERSIDE OF MY VEHICLE EVERY WINTER. THE LINES ARE RUSTING AS A RESULT OF THE CLIPS RETAINING SALT AND CORROSIVES AND CAUSING YEAR ROUND CONTACT TO THE BRAKE LINES. IS ANYONE READING OR INVESTIGATING HERE? THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS HERE REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE POST THAT LIST THE CORROSION IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT AS MY TRUCK. THESE LINES RUST NOT FROM NORMAL WEAR BUT BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE CLIP DESIGN. REPAIR ESTIMATE FROM CHEVROLET DEALER IS $1250 TO REPLACE ALL LINES. WHEN WILL GM CONSIDER THIS A DEFECT OR WRITE A SERVICE BULLETIN? *TR
WHEN PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP. MY BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING FLUID DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION AND MUST BE REPLACED FOR OVER $3000.00. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET.
BRAKE LINES AND RELATED CALIPERS CONTINUE TO RUST AND FAIL. HAVE NOW LOST BRAKES WHILE DRIVING DUE TO FAILURE OF VARIOUS BRAKE LINES THREE TIMES. TWICE I LOST THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. ONCE WHILE BACKING SLOWLY DOWN A RAMP TO A DOCK. HAVE HAD LINES REPLACED 3 TIMES NOW. CALIPERS ALSO REPLACE. VEHICLE IN SHOP FOR EMERGENCY REPAIR NOW. PREVIOUS DEALERS HAVE SAID THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE NEW BRINE MATERIAL APPLIED TO ROADS BY DOT IN WINTER. NOTE THAT I DO CLEAN UNDERCARRIAGE TO REMOVE SALT. ALSO HAVE HAD SEVERAL OLDER VEHICLES OTHER MAKES/ MODELS DURING SAME TIME PERIOD AND HAVE NOT HAD THIS ISSUE. NEVER REPLACE BRAKE LINES ON OTHER VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT HESITATED TO RESPOND BEFORE THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED. THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,340.
SERVICE AIR BAG, LIGHT CAME ON, CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH WIRING, DISCONNECTED FUSE UNDER HOOD, LIGHT STILL STAYS ON, AM AFRAID TO USE VEHICLE. HAD MECHANIC CHECK PASSENGER SEAT, AND HE ALSO COULDN'T FIND ANY THING WRONG, SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE LIGHT GOES OUT, BUT THEN COMES BACK ON AGAIN. I CAN NOT FIND SOLUTION.
STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE PRONE TO CORROSION. REPLACED 2 ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES IN THE LAST 24 MONTHS. 1ST FAILURE THE BRAKE LINE SUDDENLY BURST WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE. SECOND INCIDENT THE BRAKE LINE SLOWLY LEAKED. UPON INSPECTION THE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED.
ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AT IDLE.CK ENGINE LIGHT ON.
"TAKATA RECALL" I DROVE MY TRUCK TO THE SHOPPING CENTER ABOUT 2 MILES FROM MY HOME. PARKED AND WENT INSIDE TO MAKE A PURCHASE. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE MY TRUCK WHICH WAS STILL PARKED, I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY AND BOTH AIRBAGS EXPLODED.
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. RUSTED BRAKE LINES. WHY ARE THESE NOT RECALLED? HOW MANY PEOPLE MUST BE KILLED OR INJURED?
BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ON STREET NEAR HOME. LINE FROM PROPORTIONING VALVE TO ABS UNIT HAS PIN HOLES, I HAD TO REPLACE ALL UNDER CHASSIS BRAKE LINES LAST YEAR, BUT LINES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT REALLY? THE PLASTIC SECURING CLIPS ACT AS A CONTAINER FOR MOISTURE AND ROT THE LINE.
WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH TOWING A BOAT APPLIED THE BRAKES , THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH THE UNITS FINALLY STOPPING . ALL BRAKE FAILURE WARNING LIGHTS LIGHT UP ON THE DASH AND UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINE TO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BLEW OUT ALL THE BRAKE FLUID DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. ALL REMAINING BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND APPEAR SWOLLEN AS TO BE READY TO BURST AS WELL UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR ALONG THE FRAME RAIL. VEHICLE HAS 2,760 ENGINE RUNNING HOURS ON IT WITH 82,500 MILES DRIVEN. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE ORIGINAL TO THE TRUCK .DEALER ESTIMATE TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES WAS IN EXCESS OF $2,000. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND NEVER OFF ROAD. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND THIS VEHICLE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE WHICH THANKFULLY DID NOT END IN A CRASH. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION WITH OTHER SIMILAR TRUCK OWNERS I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM THAT IN NOW SURFACING AND MAY RESULT WITH TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES IF NOT ADDRESSED BY NHTSA AND GM IMMEDIATELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 8 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AND MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. UPDATED 10/07/16*LJ *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO THE GYM WITH MY 2 SONS WITH ME, I LUCKILY STOPPED AT THE DUMPSTER IN MY CONDO COMMUNITY TO DROP OFF SOME TRASH. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP WHEN APPROACHING THE DUMPSTER I LOST ABOUT 90% OF MY BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND NOTICED A HUGE MIST OF FLUID BY MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND THEN RETURN TO MY PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF MY CONDO WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON PARKING MY TRUCK IN THE PARKING SPOT THE REMAINING BRAKE FLUID EMPTIED OUT. WHEN I LOOKED FOR THE CAUSE I QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE SO BADLY CORRODED THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY CAME FROM THE SUNKEN TITANIC. I HAVE LIVED IN 2 STATES THAT GET SNOW IN THE WINTER BUT AFTER EVERY SNOWFALL I'VE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL CAR WASH AND USED THE UNDERBODY WASH FEATURE. I'VE DRIVEN 1987, 1988, AND 1994 VEHICLES IN SNOW STATES AND HAD NO BRAKE LINE ISSUES SO MY 2004 VEHICLE I'D EXPECT NO ISSUES EITHER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK, NOWHERE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL DOES IT WARN YOU TO CHECK YOUR METAL BRAKE LINES FOR CORROSION. FILTERS, PADS, FLUIDS ETC ARE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THAT THE OWNERS MANUAL INCLUDES BUT METAL BRAKE LINES ARE NOT AND SHOULDN'T BE, NOT WHEN AFTERMARKET CORROSION PROOF BRAKE LINE KITS COST $100. LUCKILY MY FAMILY OR NO ONE ELSE'S FAMILY WERE HURT IN MY INCIDENT BUT THE LONGER GM REFUSES TO RECALL THESE BRAKE LINES OTHERS MIGHT NOT BE AS LUCKY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD EXPERIENCED SEVERE CORROSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING TODAY WITH MY LAWN TRACTOR LOADED ON THE TRUCK OF THE BED. I CAME UPON TRAFFIC STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. AS I PRESSED MY BRAKES TO STOP , THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I ALMOST STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. LUCKILY I WAS NOT TRAVELLING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE VEHICLE MANAGED TO MOVE AND AVOID BEING REAR ENDED BY ME AFTER I BEGAN HONKING MY HORN AS A WARNING. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, I DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED, WHICH CAUSED THIS PROBLEM.
BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED UPON ENTERING A HIGHWAY REQUIRING ME TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP. INSPECTION AND ACTUATIONSHOWED BRAKE FLUID SQUIRTING OUT OF RUSTY BRAKE LINES. I AM A METALLURGIST, I KNOW WHAT CORROSION IS. I AM SO THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS KILLED. I LIVE IN FLORIDA. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF THE STATE.

MAY 2016 INSTALLED 5 YEARS WARRANTY BATTERY. BATTERY DEAD EVERY THREE MONTH. CHARGED BATTERY. INSTALLED NEW BATTERY LAST WEEK. BATTERY DEAD TODAY. HAD ALTERNATOR TESTED. (FINE) NOTICE DASHBOARD LIGHT WHERE READ MILAGE LOOKED LIKE THIS AFTER TRUCK OFF #######. ONLY GREEN LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF
POURING RAIN I WAS TAKING MY MOTHER TO SEE MY DAD AT THE HOSPITAL. I STARTED DOWN THE STREET AND WENT TO STOP. PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. I CAME TO A STOP PART WAY INTO THE INTERSECTION. THANK GOD, FOR GOD AND MY GUARDIAN ANGEL THAT I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS CORRODED BRAKE LINES. IT'S A 2004 WITH 80,000 MILES ON IT. NEVER BEEN OFF-ROAD. WHY HASN'T GM AND THE TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE ISSUED A RECALL. HAD THIS BEEN THE NIGHT BEFORE COMING HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL WE WOULD BE AT A FUNERAL. IT WAS FORTUNATE WE WERE DOING MAYBE 10MPH.
BRAKE SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE IN MOTION. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THE BRAKE TUBE LEADING TO REAR AXLE HAD RUPTURED. THE TUBE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED.
ON 4/28/2016 TRAVELING TO WORK FOLLOWING A TRACTOR TRAILER IN A 55 MPH ZONE, THE TRACTOR TRAILER ABRUPTLY MERGED INTO THE RIGHT TURN LANE AFTER A CURVE WITHOUT A SIGNAL LEAVING TWO STOPPED CARS IN MY TRAVEL LANE MAKING A LEFT TURN. I APPLIED HARD PRESSURE TO MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I IMPACTED AN AVALANCHE THAT WAS PUSHED INTO A SMALL COMPACT CAR CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND THE AVALANCHE. THE DRIVER OF THE AVALANCHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. WHILE AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE I NOTICED FLUID LEAKING UNDER MY TRUCK JUST BEHIND THE LEFT REAR TIRE. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE TO A BODY SHOP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED 2 RUPTURED BRAKE LINES IN BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND PROPORTIONING VALVE. ATTACHED PICTURES SHOW SEVERALLY RUSTED BRAKE LINES WITH NO OTHER RUST OR CORROSION ON PARTS IN THE SURROUNDING AREA. INITIAL ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS ON MY TRUCK WERE $6,371 BEFORE TEAR DOWN.
GOING DOWN EXIT RAMP BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. HAD I NOT MANAGED TO GET VEHICLE STOPPED WITH AGGRESSIVELY PUMPING BRAKE PEDAL WHILE READY ON PARKING BRAKE WE WOULD HAVE GONE INTO THREE LANES OF CROSS TRAFFIC GOT VEHICLE HOME AND FOUND EXTREMELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH DRIVER SIDE WITH ONE LEAKING OVER THE YEARS I'VE WORKED AROUND EQUIPMENT AND NEVER SEEN ANYTHING THIS BAD ON A PASSENGER VEHICLE OF ANY KIND. WE LIVE IN THE SOUTH AND THIS VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY EXTREME WINTER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND I CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
DRIVING LATE AT NIGHT, ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH NO WARNING A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES AND ALL FLUID. BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND BROKE.. WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN TO SLOW AND USE PARKING BRAKE THANKS TO NO TRAFFIC LATE NIGHT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AS THE LINES ARE NOT VISABLE WITHOUT CRAWLING UNDER VECHICLE WHERE THEY ARE UP IN THE FRAME. ONLY HAD 41,000 MILES ON TRUCK. THE COST FOR REPAIR WAS $600.00 WHICH I BELIEVE SHOULD BE BORNE BY CHEVROLET. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC, IT WOULD DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THEY ARE NOT LOCATED IN A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN BE SEEN EASILY.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 05/31/2016*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, HE PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. HE PUMPED THE BRAKE AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE SAFELY. IT WAS DETERMINED, THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. UPDATED 06/09/16.*JB
ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES ON MY TRUCK FAILED. SADLY, GM HAS KNOWN FOR YEARS THAT THESE LINES WERE MADE POORLY AND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE. YET THEY HAVE FAILED TO NOTIFY CONSUMERS OR VOLUNTARILY REPLACE THESE PARTS WITH SOME OF HIGHER QUALITY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE NHTSA ISN'T ANY BETTER, AS THEY HAVE BEEN "INVESTIGATING" THIS ISSUE FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS BUT HAVE YET TO FORCE THE AUTO MAKER TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM THIS ISSUE TO MERIT THEM WORKING IN THE PUBLICS BEST INTEREST AND NOT BE IN THE AUTO MAKERS BACK POCKET.
FUEL GAUGE AND TEMP GAUGE STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. STATIONARY.
AS WITH MANY OTHER POSTS HERE, I TOO HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH BOTH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER(BAD SPEEDOMETER AND GAUGE READINGS, "ELECTRICAL") AND ALSO THE TRANSFER CASE WITH HOLES WEARING THROUGH THE CASE, "PUMP SLAP". EVERYTHING I HAVE RESEARCHED HAS LED TO ISSUES IN BOTH PROBLEMS. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED BOTH PROBLEMS BUT STILL NOTHING BACK FROM GM. WHAT A SHAME THAT THESE AND ALL OTHER ISSUES CAN'T BE ADDRESSED BY GM. I HAVE NOT YET HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES, YET, BUT I TELL YOU, IT WILL BE LOOKED INTO. THESE BOTH HAVE HAPPENED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.

BRAKE FAILURE TODAY ON CHEVY SIVERADO. DRIVING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY. THE CAR AHEAD OF ME SLOWED AND I BRAKED. PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING VEHICAL. WAS ABLE TO COME TO STOP AND COULD SEE RUSTED BRAKE LINES BY DRIVER DOOR. HAD WIFE PRESS BRAKE PEDDLE TO SEE FLUID SRAYING FROM RUSTED AREA. HAD ZERO BRAKING POWER WHEN FIRST WENT OUT
I HAVE HAD A COMPLETE BRAKE JOB BECAUSE ALL OF THE LINES RUSTED OUT AND FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP SAFELY. I SPENT ROUGH.Y $3,000 TO GET THIS REPAIRED. NOW THE FUEL LINES, FUEL COOLER AND EVERYTHING ATTACHED HAS RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT THAT IT IS GOING TO BE AN ADDITIONA $2,500 TO REPAIR THIS. ALSO, THE COMPLETE UNDER CARRIAGE AND REAR END HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT I AM EXPECTING IT TO FAIL AT ANY TIME. THIS IS NOT ONLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION, BUT IS EXTREMELY COSTLY TO THE CONSUMER, ME. WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED, I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET APPROACHING A BUSY INTERSECTION. WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES. THE REPAIR FACILITY MECHANIC SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN A SYSTEM SO BAD. I KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A GARAGE AND HAVE WASHED THE UNDER CARRIAGE IN THE WINTER TO KEEP ROAD SALT FROM ACCUMULATING.
