SEVERE CORROSION AFFECTED BRAKE LINE. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WENT THROUGH INTERSECTION. USING MY E-BRAKE I WAS FORTUNATE TO STOP AND NOT HIT ANYTHING. I FEAR IF MY 16 YEAR OLD SON, OR MY WIFE WOULD NOT OF FARED SO WELL IN THIS SITUATION. NOW I HAD TO ABSORB A 800.00 REPAIR FOR NEW BRAKE LINES. NOW 1.5 YEARS LATER I NEED TO REPLACE FUEL LINES AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION LINES DUE TO CORROSION. MY 16 YEAR OLD DRIVES THIS PIECE OF JUNK, AND NOW THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH FUEL LINES. FIRE!!! NOW NEED TO INCUR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. WHY NO RECALL? THIS IS A LAWSUIT IN THE MAKING IF THERE WERE TO BE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO GM'S IRRESPONSIBILITY. I WILL NEVER BUY A GM PRODUCT AGAIN. AFTER I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I STARTED DOWN THE STREET AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED TO PULSE AND I HAD TO REALLY PUSH HARD TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN. ABOVE 35 MPH THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN FOR THIS SAME TROUBLE. IT HAPPENED AROUND 20,000 MILES AND THE DEALER TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THE ABS SENSOR. IT GETS DIRTY AND EITHER HAS TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AT SLOW SPEEDS, UNDER 35 MPH. I WAS TOLD THERE ARE NO RECALLS. IT WAS REPAIRED AT A CHEVROLET DEALER. *TR
I STARTED MY TRUCK AND TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER ON ITS HIGHEST SETTING WHILE I LOADED MY TWO CHILDREN INTO THEIR CAR SEATS. I HAD ONE OF MY CHILDREN IN THEIR CAR SEATS AND WAS PUTTING THE SECOND ONE IN HIS WHEN I SMELLED SMOKE AND QUICKLY REALIZED THERE WAS SMOKE BLOWING OUT OF THE VENTS. I GOT MY BOYS OUT OF THEIR SEATS AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I OPENED THE DOORS AND SEARCHED FOR SOMETHING TO EXTINGUISH FLAMES. AFTER GRABBING THE GARDEN HOSE AND RETURNING TO THE TRUCK I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH BUT I DIDN'T SEE ANY FLAMES. I WAITED TO SEE IT THE SMOKE WAS GETTING WORSE BUT IT WASN'T. I OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTHING WAS SMOKING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I FELT AROUND THE CONSOLE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WERE A NUMBER OF AREAS THAT WERE EXTREMELY HOT. A DAY LATER I TRIED TO SEE IF I COULD FIND THE LOCATION OF THE FIRE. I DISCOVERED THAT ANYTIME I HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND THE BLOWER ON ABOVE LEVEL "3" SOMETHING WOULD BEGIN TO SMOKE. BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER OCCURRED ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD PERIODICALLY TURN OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THERE ARE DEFINITELY SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING ON THIS VEHICLE. I HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I DIDN'T CATCH THE PROBLEM IN TIME. *TR

WHILE CHANGING THE OIL, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME, UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARM, BRAKE LINES, REAR AXLES, HITCH ASSEMBLING, AND REAR SPARE TIRE CARRIER ASSEMBLY WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING SYSTEM FAILED; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO KNOW HOW FAST HE WAS DRIVING AND UNABLE TO SEE OR READ ANY OF THE GAUGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKING. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME WHERE IT BROKE AND IT APPEARED TO BE DUE TO CORROSION OF THE LINE. IT ALSO LOOKED LIKE THE FUEL LINE WAS SHOWING SIMILAR CORROSION. *TR
SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION COULD NOT STOP. THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE WENT. *TR
DRIVING BACK TO WORK FROM LUNCH ON BUSY 4 LANE HIGHWAY, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION AT A RED LIGHT. PUT FLASHERS ON, LOWERED THE GEAR SELECTOR, AND USED COMBO OF MINIMAL BRAKE PEDAL AND E BRAKE TO MAKE IT BACK TO THE PARKING LOT AT WORK. UPON INSPECTION, LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON DRIVER SIDE NEAR GAS TANK. LARGE LEAK IN HIGHLY CORRODED BRAKE LINE. ALL BRAKE LINES IN SIMILAR CONDITION AND ARE CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED IN THE SHOP. TRANSMISSION LINES AND FUEL LINE ARE IN SIMILAR HIGHLY CORRODED CONDITION. *TR
I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I STEPPED ON THE MECHANICAL PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. BRAKE FLUID WAS ON THE GROUND.. I PULLED ALL THE WHEELS AND NO BRAKE CYLINDERS OR CALIPERS WERE LEAKING BUT AFTER TRACING THE OIL IT WAS FROM A BUNDLED OF BRAKE LINES UNDER THE DOOR. *TR
THE BRAKES WENT OUT BACKING IN TO A DRIVEWAY AND ALL THE FLUID LEAKED ON TO THE DRIVEWAY AND STREET. THIS COULD OF BEEN VERY SERIOUS IF IT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY COMING HOME FROM PICKING UP FURNITURE. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED?????? COSTLY FOR US? *TR

SINCE HAVING THE HEATER / AC FAN SPEED CONTROL MODULE REPLACED UNDER A RECALL LAST FALL, THIS SUMMER I HAVE HAD SEVERAL SITUATIONS WHERE THE A/C UNIT WILL TURN TO HEAT OR, THE A/C WILL GO TO DEFROST, DEFROST / FEET, WITHOUT MOVING THE SELECTOR CONTROLS. *TR
THE BRAKES FAILED ON MY TRUCK AND I HIT A PARKED DUMP TRAILER. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD SEVERLY RUSTED AND FAILED. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP SAFELY AND UNABLE TO PUMP THEM UP. THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE OCCURED UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. *TR
MY AIR BAG SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED. THIS IS A PART THAT SHOULD BE GUARANTEED BY GENERAL MOTORS. INSTEAD I PAID OVER $500 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AT A DEALERSHIP. 64K MILES / 8 YEARS AND THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? I SEARCHED ONLINE AND NOTICED MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. GM GOT A GOVERNMENT BAILOUT AND SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
ON OUR 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD THE ABS SYSTEM HAS BEEN KICKING IN WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND YOU ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. I HAVE READ A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THIS AND I HAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR OF THE CHEVY TRUCK. THE RECALL ONLY STOPS AT 2002 TRUCKS. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE YOU GUYS DECIDE TO RECALL THIS YEAR OF THE CHEVY TRUCK???? *TR
ALL 5 BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED, 2 WERE LEAKING. FILLED THE RESERVOIR, AND DROVE IT TO LOCAL SHOP FOR REPAIR, {ABOUT 2 MILES}, USING WHAT LITTLE BRAKE I HAD, {PEDAL ON THE FLOOR}, AND EMERGENCY BRAKES. COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS AND WAS VERY EXPENSIVE TO GET FIXED. TALKED TO LOCAL CHEVY DEALER WHO TOLD ME THEY REPLACE BRAKE LINES ON CUSTOMERS CARS AND TRUCKS ALMOST EVERY DAY. GM WILL NOT DO RECALL BECAUSE PROBLEM IS LOCALIZED TO THE "SALT AREA" OF NORTH EASTERN UNITED STATES. BUT GM DOES STATE THAT VEHICLE SHOULD STOP WITHOUT FLUID. THAT IS NOT TRUE! *TR

AIR BAG LIGHT JUST CAME ON AN HAD IT SEE A DEALER TOLD ME I HAD BOTH SENSORS IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK BAD AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME AROUND $850.00 TO REPLACE THEM I DIDN'T HAVE THAT KIND ON MONEY TO SPEND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULDN'T EFFECT THE RUNNING OF MY TRUCK BUT IF I GET IN A WRECK MY AIR BAGS PROBABLY WILL NOT WORK IS THIS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM GM SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEY THOUSANDS OF TRUCKS LIKE MINE WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON AN NOT AIR BAG WANT WORK IF THEY WRECK I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT THEY ARE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE ANYMORE PEOPLE GET HURT OR KILL THAT COULD BE PREVENTED IF GM WOULD DO WHAT'S RIGHT AND FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ISSUE: READS AT LEAST 50 MPH SITTING STILL AND REGISTERS MORE THAN 140 MPG AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE SENSOR IN THE UNIT AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND THEN IT MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN. COST TO REPAIR EXCEEDS $700.00 AS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MUST BE REPLACED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON DEFECT WITH THESE VEHICLES. LACK OF A FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER IS A SAFETY ISSUE! TRANSMISSION ALSO REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT ABOUT 80K MILES. *JS

UPON STARTING THE TRUCK FOR THE FIRST TIME ON 6-11-2013 THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE FAILURE OTHER THAN POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT DETERMINED A SENSOR INSIDE THE FRONT BUMPER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE DEFECT. THE CONTACT ALSO REPORTED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND RUPTURED, WHICH CAUSED THE REAR BRAKES TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
I HAD A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL ON MY 2005 SILVERADO. I THOUGHT I HAD A BAD MASTER CYLINDER. I WORK AT AN AUDI DEALERSHIP AND I WAS BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO WORK TO CHECK IT OUT. AS I APPROACHED THE DRIVEWAY TO WORK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL INTO,THE DRIVEWAY. WE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AT WORK AND FOUND THAT A STEEL BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE THAT RUNS ALONG THE FRAME RAIL HAD A HOLE IN IT DUE TO RUST. I FIND THIS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT A STEEL BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH. CHEVROLET USED A POOR MATERIAL ON THEIR BRAKE LINES. I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESS FOR 31 YEARS IN CONNECTICUT ( YES, SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS ) AND HAVE WORKED FOR FORD, VOLVO, HUMMER AND AUDI. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH. CHEVROLET NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE AND NOT THE CONSUMERS. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS $1500.00 TO REPAIR USING THE SAME BRAKE LINES. I HAVE PURCHASED STAINLESS STEEL LINES AND WILL PERFORM THE REPAIRS AT MY SHOP . *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO IN LATE 2010 FROM A CHEVY DEALER (TOM CLARK CHEVROLET IN MCKEESPORT, PA). APPROXIMATELY JUNE 7, 2013, MY SPEEDOMETER WENT CRAZY STICKING ON 0, 100, OR 120 ... REGARDLESS OF MY SPEED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER MONDAY JUNE 10, 2013 AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO TOM CLARK AT 7:55 A.M. ON TUESDAY JUNE 11, 2013 AND RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THEM AT APPROXIMATELY 8:45 A. TELLING ME THAT THE ISSUE IS THE CLUSTER AND HE AGREED THAT THIS ISSUE IS THE EXACT ISSUE THAT WAS RAISED IN THE GM LAWSUIT BUT STILL TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. (I ONLY BECAME AWARE OF THE GM LAWSUIT OVER THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 7, 2013, WHILE SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE). HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY/RECALL EXPIRED LAST YEAR (2012), SO HE DOES ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS AND HAS EXISTED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AFTER ALL THE ISSUES WITH THEM SURFACED AND A LAWSUIT HAD ACTUALLY TAKEN PLACE AND THEY SOLD ME THIS TRUCK, KNOWING THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND DIDN'T INFORM ME OF THE PROBLEM. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT IT WILL COST $550.00 TO FIX IT. MY VEHICLE HAS 49,809 MILES ON IT, IT'S A THIRD VEHICLE THAT'S HARDLY EVER USED AND THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE DISHONEST PRACTICES OF TOM CLARK WHERE THIS MATTER IS CONCERNED. THEY SOLD ME A VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE PART, WHILE A LAWSUIT WAS EITHER PENDING OR HAD BEEN RESOLVED, AND STILL FAILED TO INFORM ME OF THE PROBLEM. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY $550.00 TO FIX WHAT THEY ALREADY KNEW WAS WRONG. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, LOUD BANG. LOOKED UNDER TRUCK, DRIVER'S SIDE REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLE HAD ROTTED OFF AND THE LEAF SPRING BUSTED THROUGH THE BED OF THE TRUCK. 2 WEEKS LATER, A BANGING ON THE UNDER SIDE OF BED. LOOK UNDERNEATH AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED OFF THE FRAME. NOT EVEN SURE THERE IS ENOUGH METAL LEFT TO WELD OR PUT ON A NEW MOUNT! THE REAR CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE IS NON-EXISTENT. IT HAS RUSTED AWAY. THE BODY OF THE TRUCK IS IN GREAT SHAPE. IT IS JUST THE FRAME AREA AND MOUNTS THAT ATTACH TO IT. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW, IT HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND HAS BEEN KEPT IN EXCELLENT RUNNING CONDITION. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GM. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS AND HOPES THAT THE NHTSA TAKES NOTICE AND ACTION. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING CAME ON DISABLING DRIVERS AIR BAG. AFTER CHECKING THIS OUT I FOUND THIS WAS A REAL COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS AGE SILVERADOS. PROBLEM IS A SENSOR THAT COST 400$ TO REPAIR AT DEALER. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM SHOULDN'T GM FIX THE DEFECT AT THEIR COST? HOW MANY OWNERS OF THIS AGE TRUCK OPT NOT TO HAVE THIS DEFECT FIXED DUE TO COST? THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DEEMED THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO NUMEROUS ISSUES THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,187.
LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS IN HER PARKING LOT AT WORK. SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL HEADED FOR THE FLOOR. THE LINE TO THE REAR BRAKES RUSTED THROUGH MID POINT BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK. THIS IS AN 8 YEAR OLD, WELL MAINTAINED TRUCK! INFERIOR MATERIAL FAILURE? *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES GIVE IMPROPER READINGS INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
RUSTED BRAKE LINE LET GO AND HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP TO STOP. PEDAL WENT COMPLETLY TO FLOOR ,TRIED TO PUMP NO BRAKES. REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES. *TR
WAS ON HIGHWAY WHEN HEARD A NOISE AND PULLED OVER TO SEE A DOUGHNUT FOR A TIRE AND RUBBER PIECES TIED AROUND TAILPIPE,_E-BRAKE AND OTHER PARTS UNDERNEATH. DAMAGED REAR PANEL THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME WAS 30100MILES COULD'VE CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT. ALSO BROKE A CLUSTER LOST ALL METERS ON DASH. *TR
WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I COULD FEEL A CLUNKING, AS THOUGH THE LINKAGE WAS VERY LOOSE. I TALKED WITH THE CHEVY DEALER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE SYMPTOM AND IT WAS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY SAID IT WAS COSMETIC, BUT DID NOT AFFECT SAFETY. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $275 TO FIX IT, BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR IF THAT WOULD BE JUST A TEMPORARY FIX. SOMETIMES, THIS SYMPTOM ALSO APPEARS WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD, BUT MOST OFTEN WHILE IN A TURN, PARTICULARLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. *TR
THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE SHIFT LEVER INDICATOR BUT MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED AND I HAVE THAT EXACT SAM ISSUE. I CANNOT TELL WHAT GEAR MY TRUCK IS IN WHY ISNT MY VEHICLE INCLUDED? MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND GRADUALLY STARTED TO FADE AT START UP.
THE SPEEDOMETER IS ERRATIC, DISPLAYING 40, 50, 80 MPH RUNNING, SITTING STILL IN PARK. THEN WILL PEG TO 130 MPH WHEN DRIVEN. ONE DAY AFTER SITTING IN A PARKING LOT THE "CHECK AIR BAG" MESSAGE CAME ON WITH AIR BAG LIGHT. THE PAST WINTER HAD BEEN PARTICULARLY WET AND COLD FOR OHIO. AFTER RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFORMED AND CAUSING THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THE DESIGN CAN ALLOW WATER INTO THE SENSOR, BUT NOT DRAIN OUT. HENCE, THE WATER FROZE INSIDE THE SENSOR, EXPANDED AND DAMAGED THE SENSOR, RENDERING THE AIR BAG SYSTEM INOPERABLE. PART NUMBER 15103522. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED THAT THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED BY ANOTHER PART NUMBER - 10370149. UNSURE IF THIS NEW PART CORRECTS THE LACK OF DRAINAGE OR NOT BUT ACCORDING TO THE ONLINE RESEARCH, IT JUST MIGHT. CONTACTED CHEVY AUTHORIZED SERVICE AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THE PART AT THEIR COST SINCE THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN OFFICIAL RECALL. I WAS PUT ON HOLD FOR 5 MINUTES WAITING TO LEARN OF THE PART PRICE, AT WHICH POINT I HUNG UP. COMING HOME AFTER A NIGHT OF BOWLING WITH A TRUCK FULL OF KIDS. I COULD FEEL AND HEAR A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BRAKES UNTIL I GOT BACK INTO TOWN. WHILE USING A 12V AIR PUMP PLUGGED INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITH THE VEHICLE OFF AND NO KEY IN IGNITION, IT SHORTLY STOPPED WORKING. SOON AFTER SMOKE STARTING COMING FROM BEHIND THE DASH TRIM. I QUICKLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND PULLED OFF THE FRONT TRIM HOUSING THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO FIND THE WIRE'S INSULATION MELTED. I THEN LOOKED FOR THE FUSE FOR THAT AND FOUND IT TO BE MELTED AS WELL. THE FUSE WAS RATED AT 15A, AND THE CORRECT FUSE RECOMMEND BY GM. AFTER PULLING THE FUSE, I RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND HAD NO MORE SMOKE. USING A CONTINUITY TESTER, I CHECKED BOTH WIRES FOR, AND CONFIRMED, SHORT TO GROUND ON BOTH. THE ENTIRE LINE OF WIRES GOING BACK TO THE FUSE BOX MAY BE JUST AS MELTED AND THUS STILL SHORTING TO GROUND. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AND APPLIED THE BRAKES FOR A STOPLIGHT WHEN I FELT A SUDDEN LACK OF RESISTANCE IN THE PETAL. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED AT ALL. I HAVE A 2005 SILVERADO 2500HD WITH 82K MILES. I'M THE SECOND OWNER AND BOUGHT IT IN 2007. WHEN I GOT IN IT A WEEK AGO TO DRIVE SOMEWHERE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I HAD NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM UP TO THIS POINT. I FILLED THE RESERVOIR BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT PUMP UP. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I FOUND THE ENTIRE SET OF BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF BEING ROTTEN. I WIPED OFF THE LINES TO FIND THE LEAK, AND FOUND THE FUEL LINE WAS ALSO LEAKING. AT THIS POINT THE FITTINGS ON THE ABS MODULE CANNOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT BREAKING OR DAMAGING THE MODULE. WITH THE HEATER ON HIGH (SETTING 5), THE FAN STOPPED BLOWING HEAT. I THEN SET THE BLOWER TO SETTING 4, AND THE FAN WORKED FINE. AS SOON AS I THEN PUT THE FAN BACK TO 5, I WOULD HEAR A CLICK BUT THE FAN WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. I THEN BEGAN TO FIDDLE AROUND WITH THE CONNECTOR THAT IS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH WHICH POWERS THE FAN. IF I MOVE THE ONE WIRE AROUND, THE FAN WOULD INTERMITTENTLY WORK WHILE ON SETTING 5. I UNPLUGGED THIS CONNECTOR FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR, NOTICED THAT THE ONE WIRE SEEMS AS IF IT WAS CAUSING A SHORT (THE WIRE WAS SOMEWHAT BLACK FROM OVER CURRENT). I REMOVED THE PIN FROM THE CONNECTOR, RECRIMPED AND SOLDERED IT. WORKED FINE UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN THE FAN ONCE AGAIN BEGAN TO STOP ONLY ON SETTING 5. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE PROBLEM IS ONCE AGAIN THE CONNECTOR THAT GOES TO THE BLOWER MOTOR POWERING THE FAN RESISTOR. I SAW A FEW REPORTS OF THIS ON HERE ABOUT VEHICLE FIRES ALL OF WHICH POINT TO THIS CONNECTION BEING BAD.
