While in reverse and turning stabilitrack light appears and jerks steering wheel from hand. Then a total loss of power and gait to start. No dash panel or power to vehicle.
Rear window shattered after a few minutes of defroster use. Seems to be a problem on these years of Silverado but no recall on mine. No warning, window just popped on its own, safety issue to have window failure during driving.
I was driving in a state Highway when without warning in traffic my truck stopped driving but the engine was still going. I have been to the dealer and complained about electronics like the radio just ceasing to work and the display unit as well as the erratic shift pattern of the transmission 3 times . Thankfully no one was injured and it was late night/ early morning hours, in moderate traffic we might have been injured. Upon looking at blogs and forums online and I am not the only one with these issues, it is a very costly repair. I was told by the mechanic he has another vehicle like mine for the same issue and apparently it’s related to the torque converter (in his words “most are problematic and inadequate from the factory” and the way the engine runs on less cylinders which in turn destroyed the valve body and pump in the transmission. The repair will end up costing me over $6000 now. I really just don’t want anyone injured as well as taken advantage of.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission was slipping and failed to properly accelerate. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who confirmed that transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The truck engine light came on and was not able to be driven very far without stalling. Took it for repair and 2 valve lifters were bad. We had to pay for replacement ourselves. This happened at 41,786 miles. This happened again at 46,000 miles because of faulty GM parts and they needed to be replaced again. The parts were under warranty so there was no charge. This happened again at 59,000 miles and now both side lifters are bad and mechanic suggested engine replacement since he is sure this will happen again. Now it’s costing us 15,300 to repair it and GM/Chevrolet is not helping or do they care! First incident was in April 2023, second in November 2023 and now in December 2025.
The transmission failed at 96,000 miles even though maintenance had been completed. This could have been a catastrophic failure on the highway my family or others at risk. The dealer has the truck now and confirmed a failed transmission. No warning signs other than odd behavior when accelerating which led to odd noises from the transmission.
Backing up slowly with/without a trailer and have to pump the brakes to stop or stand on the brakes or pumping the brakes and having to use the emergency brake to stop, rev up the engine, put in reverse and have to do the previous steps all over again. This only happens going slowly in reverse. I was told by a mechanic it could be the vacuum pump or TSB on the vacuum pump. No warning messages display. This is a safety risk to myself and others and could cause an accident.
The vehicle only has 118,000 miles on it and the transmission cooler lines are leaking and now I have a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear and the same when the vehicle is downshifting as well.
Barking system. it seams like when I’m in the city the brakes will not engage properly, at some point I’ve had to use the emergency brake to stop. on the freeway the brakes work good but when running at low rpm it’s like the brakes go to the floor and the truck is still moving. I went to get my brakes inspected and brake pads are still good, brake fluid was good. They told me to bring it in when the brakes fail again so they could see what was happening. Transmission was replace at 65000 miles because of a faulty torque converter
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle started driving rough. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine lifters had failed, and an engine cylinder rod had been damaged. The engine rod and lifters were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000.
Have taken vehicle to dealership for service and they completed their 21 point inspection and never seem to find the electrical problem or the transmission issue, no transmission has completely stopped working. Shifting hard and truck will not move at times or will only travel at only 8 miles per hour.
No brakes at low speed. Problem persists after recall. Needs a vacuum pump. Known problem with Chevrolet and they won’t replace it.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. Additionally, while shifting gear, the vehicle lunged forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate or reverse. An independent mechanic arrived at the residence and informed the contact that the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
ABS system and trailer brakes lights on dashboard come on and until the truck is off and sits for awhile the abs will start working again. Have had several shops look at it and have heard several different things. Started with the cheaper side of things and still no luck for a solution.
The lifters on one side of my engine failed. This is due to the AFM(Active fuel management) system that GM had in its vehicles from 2016-2021. My truck is a V8 motor and the AFM system drops the motor to 4 cylinders during periods that the vehicle is in stop or coasting. Overtime the lifters in the engine wear out causing the engine to fail. I barely made it to the dealer to fix the issue as I lost full power in the engine nearly causing me to have an accident. The only notification I got was check engine light started blinking mid-stream on my way to work. The cost to repair lifters is extremely high and that is the reason why GM hasn't issued a recall yet. There are thousands of cases of failed lifters in my research online. GM knew this was a problem as they have quit using the AFM feature in all of their vehicles. My servicer at my dealership even told me that they have seen this problem on multiple occasions.
Vehicle takes 6 seconds before it does a hard shift into reverse. It also has hard jerks when switching gears. In April it was taken to Don Hall in which I was told that is how this model does and nothing could be done even though it was under a paid for extended warranty. The radio display also glitches out and is extremely faulty
The drivers side seat belt has detached from the anchor on the seat. The cable has pulled out of the crimp on the belt portion of the seat belt / shoulder harness assembly. I have not contacted the dealer about this issue. There was a recall for "certain" Silverado about this condition but my vehicle is not showing up on the GM website as being inlcuded.
3mos ago i had a fender bender in Mesa,AZ(my front end to pasenger side)her car was towed my wasn't for the next 28 days my truck was still driving just fine like nothing ever happened to it,at the end of the month my work was done so i drove bk to Cali and it was till the middle of April when this all started 2 months ago like normal I was getting an oil change from there I went home it was 5:30pm didn't go anywhere else that night ,the next morning I put my key into the ignition and it was completely dead, at first I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one, installed the new battery went on my way to run my errands 3hrs pass came home it was around 12:40pm,around 5:30pm I was planning on going to the grocery store went to start my truck wouldn't start truck battery was dead, nothing was left on no door was open no lights were on, so I towed it to my mechanic so he could put it on the scope to find out the general problem, called and told me that it was an electrical problem and my truck would have to be reprogram starting from the main chip in my transmission, going back in forth from my mechanic to the Chevrolet dealer in Victorville ca, it's still not in working condition yet and still trying to reprogram the last of these codes that keep appearing on the dash(2016 Chevy Silverado 6cyl 4door LT, never had any problems at all from the day I got it from the dealer back in 2019 of Mar, with reg oil changes, tune ups, ran like a brand new truck, very confused, upset, concerned about this matter, not to mention the cost for this, Sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Truck turns off when going in reverse, sometimes when brake is applied, sometimes when turning left and when left turn signal is on. It usually happened when stopping at a traffic stop or light or when turning left. This time it turned off when changing lanes on the freeway and almost caused a pile up. It was scary and it could have caused a lot of unnecessary mishaps. What happens is the engine turns off completely for a couple of seconds and turns back on. It feels like its a battery cable issue or some bad connection. The problem is the dealer cannot replicate the problem. Sometimes it happens often sometimes it happens every other day. So far I know a couple of other Chevy Silverado owners who have the same problem. I have a video of this problem if you need to see. My name is [XXX]. Email is [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My 2016 Chevy Silverado had intermittent hard braking. Especially at slower speeds the brake pedal would get very hard to press and needed a lot of effort to stop. I was especially concerned having newer drivers in my household that the truck was unsafe. I nearly hit others vehicles especially at stoplights and in parking lots. The vehicle was taken to the GM dealer who said it was under recall and completed the repairs. However even though the recall repairs were completed the vehicle still continued to have hard braking issues. It was not resolved until I had the brake vacuum booster pump replaced by a 3rd party as GM was unwilling to complete the repair under the recall
Engine light came on and the code shows fuel module control
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) was reprogrammed; however, the pump failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 168,553.
I developed a oil leak in my oil cooling lines. I don't know why there is a recall for the 2019 Silverado and not my 2016 for the same problem. I reference GM Customer Satisfaction Program number: N212326940.
POWER STEERING FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. FIRST TIME DEALER "FLASHED" ECU AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM. SECOND TIME THE ECU HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE BURNED OUT. NOT JUST BURNED OUT BUT NOT EASILY REPLACEABLE AS IT IS WELDED TO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING! ACCORDING TO THE VIN ON THE TRUCK IT SHOULDN'T EVEN NEED THE RECALL. IF NOT, THEN PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WOULD CAUSE SUCH A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN A VEHICLE WITH 26,000 MILES ON IT. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONES' DEATH TO BE WORTHY OF A RECALL?
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle seized in 4WD mode, causing the steering wheel to become firm and difficult to turn. The 4WD warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where Technical Service Bulletin: PIP5369C was performed to update the transfer case control module with the latest software. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
Had momentary steering loss preceded by an electrical glitch. System recovered after a few seconds. A steering warning appeared on the display but no code was triggered. This is similar to the recall problems on the 2015 Silverado.
The air conditioning system is faulty as ac condenser is cracked and released freon. I was in south Florida with no ac. I've seen class action suits against GMC, as this is a known issue. Why can't this be fixed by them and not pass costs on to the owners ? Thanks [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
AFTER DRIVING FOR 4 HOURS BRAKES WONT WORK PROPERLY, BRAKING POWER DECREASES AND IS REALLY HARD TO STOP.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AS DESCRIBED IN THE NOTICE. THIS IS SECOND TIME IT HAS OCCURED . FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED (2 YEARS AGO) TRUCK WAS WITH MY MECHANIC FOR 6 WEEKS AS HE TRIED TO "MECHANICALLY" FIX THE PROBLEM. FINALLY, DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM THEY NEEDED TO "FLASH" THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE TRUCK. MECHANIC TOOK THE TRUCK TO DEALER WHEREUPON THE "FLASH" PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED AND THE TRUCK WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME AS "FIXED"! I HAVE ALREADY BEEN INVOLVED IN 1 LIFE THREATENING VEHICLE CRASH (2017 Dodge Durango) I'M NOT DOING THAT AGAIN. HELPPPPPPPP! LOOK IT UP.
Dash board instrument panel and radio loses all power, May even cause vehicle to shut off not able to steer, If the cruise control is set it shuts it off. It mostly happens when you apply the brake or if I operate my passenger window from driver door controls. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other representatives. No it gives no indication prior to the failure. I have been researching it on google and youtube, I have seen a lot of owners with the same problem but no one seem to have a solution. Thank you
The body and frame of my 2016 Chevy Silverado is rusted from the inside out. The frame under the vehicle has holes and the structure and stability of the vehicle has been compromised due to the extensive rust within the frame. Chevy needs to include 2016 Silverado's in their frame rust recall that extends to 2015 vehicles. They need to replace the frames on these trucks to meet safety standards. Obviously something was missed when assembling these vehicles.
Was driving got up to stop sign the belt made a squaling noise and the brake pedal was hard brakes failed and i couldnt stop
Truck was revving while driving down the highway, would jump up and down gears while driving down the highway, started making a high pitched whirring noise, and when pulling out of my driveway onto a busy street, stopped moving in the middle of the street. The truck wouldn't go into any gear whether it was Reverse, Drive, Neutral or any of the Manual gears. Two police officers pushed my vehicle off of the busy road onto a side street. No lights came on the dashboard to warn of any problems. I have had the truck towed to a transmission shop for repairs. Research shows that there are many complaints about this issue in this particle vehicle. Please research this problem.
At only 72k on the truck while traveling at 70mph down the freeway the transmission started slipping out of gear causing the motor to rev up causing a loss of power. Luckily I managed to get the vehicle off of the freeway without incident. It seemed to go back to normal than continued to slip within 3-4 miles. It turns out that the transmission pump failed and damaged the entire transmission. The truck was taken into the dealer in approximately 2018/19 because of a transmission shudder, to which the dealership said it was normal and there were no issues with the truck.
I have had 2 separate issues 2 weeks apart with the transmission. The first one was "fixed". Now they are stating I need a new transmission.
My truck has 123,700 miles on it. I took my truck to M&T auto mechanic in Grandville, Michigan. They advised me I need a new transmission. I bought my Truck from Berger Chevolet in Grandville, Michigan with zero issues. It had 59,000 miles on it when I bought it used. I have taken very good of this truck and I do not pull anything with it. I feel I should have gotten many more miles out of the transmission. I feel General Motors is at fault for this. Can anyone help me out with this issue?
It appears, after google research, that my torque converter is or has failed. Transmission shudder is happening on my 6 speed trans.
My 2016 Chevy Silverado is experiencing the same low speed braking problem that occurs mostly at low speeds like driving in parking lots or stop and go traffic as defined in 19V-645 and N192268490. Driving at these speeds and braking feels like the brakes are completely failing and require excessive force on the brake pedal to stop. What do I do?
Transmission failure at 141,000 miles while driving on highway.
The transmission failed while driving on a highway the transmission went into limp mode reducing speed down to 1st gear almost causing a wreck . Codes read p0700 and p0796 .after drawing transmission fluid it looked like water in there fluid but I found out it's glycol. There is a recall on my year make and model but not by my vin .
I remote started my vehicle and the rear defrost caused the back window to shatter. I had previously thought I heard what was a speaker going out/crackling, but upon further research, it appears it was the electronics in the rear defrost arcing. This appears to be a known issue with no US recall.
I have been experiencing this problem for years, but recently it has been getting worse. When accelerating from a stop there is a shudder in the transmission. The wheels feel like they slip or vibrate upon acceleration from a stop or slow speed. Sometimes the wheels don't spin, and I have to put the truck in 4-wheel drive for the wheels to catch. Sometimes while at a steady speed, like on a highway, the transmission slips and catches quickly, like little thumps. I only have 62,000 miles on my truck. I do not haul heavy loads or tow a trailer.
I was door dashing then a service alert came on the dash… I had pulled over to check what it meant about the trailer brake system. I have never towed or have a trailer to tow around! So continued to drive then my truck cut off then cut on while I was trying to make a turn. Then I pulled over again and luckily a mechanic said it’s wiring that’s defected in my truck and I need to get fix! I don’t have no money to get this fix , is there a way I can get some assistance with this?
6l80 transmission filed /malfunctioned it is available or inspection . while driving down a highway running 65mph i noticed a slip in the transmission . all at once my transmission started dropping gears from 6th all the way down to 1st gear .causing increased rpm . i was in the center lane of the highway and could not gain speed to keep up with traffic and was almost hit by a semi truck . as i only had 1st gear 10 mph . i finally managed to get the truck off the highway which left me stranded on the inside lane of a interstate no where to go . i had my family of 5 in my truck on the way home .if it had not been for the fast reaction of the semi driver my family would not be here today . when i got my truck towed home i ran a diagnostic which gave me the code P0796 pressure control soleniod c performance or stuck off. and P0700 transmission control system . i have seen so many youtube videos/ repair videos. of the solenoid pack failure torque converter failure . electrical failure for these trucks i dont understand why their is no recall .
My 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 has just over 100,000 miles, and the transmission is slipping and making a clunking noise which is going to require replacement with a new transmission. I bought this truck with 48,000 miles and it's my daily driver. This truck was not used to haul trailers with heavy loads. There should be a recall for the transmission on the 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500. I had a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500, and It had no transmission issues with 275,000 miles on it when I traded it in.
I was in a drive thru food chain going forward slowly. The brakes seemed hard and I had to really push hard to get the vehicle to stop. I went to a private mechanic who I trust totally. I had the front rotors and all pads replaced due to normal wear. We went on a trip with no braking issues. After returning home and backing down the driveway the brakes seemed hard again and was not stopping the vehicle properly. There were no warning lights on. This only seems to occur at very low speeds and is an alarming when it happens. I have been told by a dealership that there are no recalls on this vehicle. However looking on line I have seen videos and articles about faulty vacuum pumps and braking modules that needed reprogramming that effect braking as I have described. I don't want to take this to a dealership until I know for sure if there is a recall or not. Thanks
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact noticed smoke coming from the rear driver's side seat. The contact referenced the failure to TSB: N192265660 (Rear Window Defroster) The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the passenger’s side air bag remained ON while the front passenger’s side seat was not occupied and would turn OFF while driving. The message "Service Air Bag" was later displayed. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front passenger’s side air bag and occupant seat mat sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that they would cover 10 percent of the repair cost. A case was opened, and the contact was awaiting a call from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Only way I found out that fuel pump wasn’t working was due to transmission problems with sensor and having to get the whole harness replace as well as the Moyer I had to get the motor replaced as well engine light kept coming out and truck felt lost of power and would waste gas a lot, safety wise I was afraid it’d break down in the middle of road with my family trucks been having problems since I’ve got it with motor and transmission and fuel pump problems , yes problems have been confirmed with dealers but dealers just say they fixed it but continued to have problems so I took it to certified shop and having them fix the fuel pump and transmission problem, as of I know the truck has been inspected by warranty company, yes they’re were warnings like engine lights ABS lights.
Rear Defroster malfunction. After starting the vehicle smoke was coming from the rear cab of my truck in the area that the power sliding window meets the rest of the rear window. In the same area, one of the metal strips for the defroster was glowing red hot. Seconds later the rear window shattered within inches of my face. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the defroster malfunctioning. The vehicle is yet to be disabled and the dealer refuses to look at the vehicle until the rear window is fixed. There are messages and recalls from the manufacturer for this issue on the same year make and model as my vehicle but for some reason my trucks vin number is not associated with that recall.
