About a month ago I noticed some intense shaking in my 2020 Silverado 1500 RST when braking. The shaking is not only felt in the seat and steering wheel, but is also observable in the dash and in the gear shifter. Due to the obvious concern, I made an appointment with the dealer who, after inspection, stated that all 4 rotors were warped due to overheating. I mostly use the truck on the highway, tow a river raft (easily carried by 2 people) on a small trailer 2 times a year (about 70 miles roundtrip), have never used the bed with excess weight, do not ride my brakes when driving, and I live in Alaska where the temperature is cool (high temps rarely exceeding mid 60's). The brake status report on my dash presently shows my original brake pad life to be 83% on the front and 89% on the rear which was inline with the dealer report that the brake pads were still quite thick. These prove that the brakes have not been overused or abused. According to Kaufman and Associates website, "General Motors is recalling over 350,000 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GM Sierra pick-up trucks due to a fault in the brake system....The issue involved a lack of heat-treatment for the bolts used to attach both the front and rear calipers.....The issue comes down to long-term performance and safety....Untreated bolts run the risk of breaking under loads, and this can result in braking issues, wheel rotation problems, and internal damage to other parts of the truck. These trucks also suffered from brake system control module and premature brake wear issues, and countless owners have reported brake system issues as varied as check engine lights to outright brake failure." According to the local dealer, my VIN isn't included in the recall and they cannot fix it until it is included (or I dish out $2k). It seems obvious that the issue in my truck is the same that led to the recall of the other 350,000 trucks and I simply need my VIN added so that it can be fixed before catastrophic brake failure.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated when she started the vehicle and attempted to shift into reverse(R) there was an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel was locked. The contact was unable to turn the steering wheel. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The contact stated that the loss of power steering had occurred once. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The driver airbag has rusted causing a service safety restraint system light.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the emission system warning light and the throttle control warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle shuddered while being started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the spark plugs and made several other unknown repairs. The dealer also informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Around 35k miles had an engine lifter fail and needed to be replaced, covered under warranty. 07/2023 - Had front pads/rotors replaced by Chevy dealer and had loud squeaking ever since. Contacted dealer and was told they are new pads so will just need time to break in. Contacted the dealer again in Sept.Oct. 2023 and brought vehicle in for service for noise concern. They informed me the noise is coming from the rear brakes that was reported as 60% life two months prior. They replaced the rear rotors/pads and noise persisted. Brought vehicle back to dealer in December, they performed a serviced but was ineffective. In March 24 started getting some vibrations when stopping. Brought vehicle for servicing, stated there are rust spots on rotors but everything is wearing fine so this will not be covered under warranty. Also that they do not warranty sounds due to pads can have more metallics then others and they cannot determine which ones do not. I looked under forums and GM Pads seem to be a common issue with noise. My truck was perfectly fine before these brake products were installed and I would like GM to be held accountable for there inferior products leading to loud break noises and violent vibrations while braking !
while driving i smelled what i thought was strong exhaust from a vehicle in front of us. It was actually gasoline fumes entering the cab from my truck's engine compartment. I pulled over and investigated the smell, we had to let down ALL the windows and turn off the AC. There were no warning lamps. There was, however, gasoline dripping from around the transmission area of the underside. It was dripping on the exhaust which was causing most of the stench. It wasn't a heavy drip but enough for me to skip any other planned errands. When we got to the house gasoline was dropping from six or seven places under the car. The next day we set an appointment for the dealership to look at it. When I drove into the dealer the car was still gushing gasoline and I told them about the recall for the High Pressure Fuel Pump. It turns out that's exactly what it was. However, although my RPO (L82) matched the designated recall, I was told my VIN was not included and I would have to pay...bummer. I don't think the recall cast a big enough web to catch all affected vehicles. I have a video but no photos.
The key will get stuck in the ignition cilinder when I try to turn off the truck. This happens several times, I got to turn it on and off several times to get the key out of the ignition barrel. The truck was taken to the dealer to be repaired, they replaced the cylinder (part #13528553) and the housing (part# 84990323) AMD it didn't fix the problem
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the contact experienced resistance while using the gear shift lever to drive and there was a hesitation while shifting gear. Additionally, while in reverse on several occasions, the back over prevention screen went black and failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Lifters are failing. This is an ongoing problem with GM engines. They used faulty parts and engines are failing and nothing is being done about it.
at around 30mph the transmission struggles and jerks.
Already paid for transmission repair and now paying for engine wiring harness. Service update was sent out to dealer in May of 2020 to fix issues before selling vehicle. That was not done.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH, the engine started shuddering. The message "Reduced Power" was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after a while. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft intake actuator screws had detached, and the engine and turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 77,200.
I had just left RV Park in Kingman, AZ. I had cruise control set at 59MPH when My truck began a violent shacking and a lot of banging. I pulled over on the shoulder of I-40, Got out to find tread had come off of the tire and was now wedge between brake backing plate and leaf spring. It had not lost air. Just tread came off. When tow truck driver showed up several hours later, tire was still holding air. He jacked up the axle, but deflated tire before he would remove it from truck and put on my spare. I always check my tires when I leave rv parks or after stopping at rest stops. Saw nothing wrong with tire or air pressure that morning. I had only been driving 45 Minutes, outside temp was low 80's.
Rear window seal is leaking causing mold in vehicle.
dash gauge cluster - ALL gauges drop to "zero" while driving speed, oil pressure, engine temp, fuel, etc., a/c compressor stops working but blower still works
While driving down the interstate hi-way, I heard a pop and my truck started to swerve into the adjoining lane. I turned the steering wheel in the opposite direction and the truck started making a rubbing sound and very hard to steer. I finally got it to the side of the hi-way and seen my passenger side front wheel leaning in. The upper balljoint/control arm broke. Luckily no-one was in the lane next to me or it would have caused a serious crash.
2020 Silverado 1500 LTZ, Turn signals on mirror do not work
Electrical acutated tailgate will not come down. The truck came with a soft bed cover that locks. If my child was to hide in the bed somehow it would pose an immediate risk to life and health as the tailgate will not come down and does not have any type of manual override. The interior controls do not work to lower the tailgate, the key fob controls do not work to lower the tailgate.
Brake system light failure. Some system lights came on. I had no breaks car didn’t stop fast enough before hitting a pole
On a 3 year old vehicle, I had a dash full of warning lights come on along with the engine light. Upon checking the code for the engine, it shows a misfire on cylinder 5. Looking online, chevy has a tsb # pip5776c regarding lifter failure. It appears this is an ongoing issue with many of the vehicles as verified by an engine repair shop. They stated then engine may need replacement as they have found in the past. For a 3 year old vehicle with more year of payments this is not right. They know of an issue and after speaking with a dealer, they said its on me because I am over the mileage warranty. I do not have the repair done yet--it is not cheap
The truck only has 54106 MI problem with the key coming out after turning it off . Have to turn engine on and off until the key comes off.
My backup camera is not functional and it stopped working in April a month after I purchased the vehicle before my lease expired in May. I took it into the dealership for a software update and they refused to do anything without charging me a $160 fee.
Component? Multiple: lifters from bank 2 which caused multiple other components to be replaced consistent with GM protocols such as bent rods. Safety: The vehicle jerked causing it difficulty to safely operate the vehicle which ultimately left stranded. This was also unsafe for other motorist as it was difficult to operate while trying to safely get to the side of the road. The dealer repaired the vehicle after confirming failures. No one other than the dealer inspected the vehicle to date. Warning lamps only appeared after vehicle violently shook.
Vehicle is at 67,xxx miles. Vehicle is losing power, check engine light, service 4wd, service esc, service power steering, service parking brake..... the gas pedal has locked on me already with my 3 small children in the truck at highway speeds. GM says it's fine. I have all the work orders where 2 different dealerships have "corrected" these issues under warranty. Go retrieve the vehicle and within a week Vehicle is back acting up. This truck is unsafe to drive on the roadway. I have not been offered a courtesy vehicle to drive while "warranty" work is being done. I am appalled and in fear for my children and my own life with this truck.
Rear window seal leaking.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, there was an abnormal squealing sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the front brake pads. While test driving the vehicle, the front driver’s side brake caliper failed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V116000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 37,000.
The frame of the truck is excessively rusty and the manufacture undercoating has flaked off. All components of the frame and underbody have significant rust for the age of the vehicle. This was just addressed with the dealership who stated there was no warranty to cover it. There has been no service done to the frame and all preventative maintenance and service checks have been done at the dealership on time. It was just recently noticed to be so rusty. This poses a problem with the safety of the frame of the vehicle which can lead to cracks, broken welds, holes, etc.
Was riding down the road and my front left caliber locked up had break fluid running down from the upper reservoir the truck only has 46,000 miles. the truck was immobile had to have it towed and had to get a new caliber and took the shop almost a week to get air out the system breaks are still not 100 percent also rear breaks are having a problem fully releasing as well. Leaves me worried the rear breaks will seize up as well cost me 1000 dollars for the repairs
My transmission went out
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the rear tailgate door erroneously opened. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on 4 separate occasions and items had fallen from the vehicle while in motion. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
VEHICLE WILL SEND MESSAGE TO MESSAGE CENTER TO SHIFT VEHICLE IN TO PARK WHEN IT IS ALREADY IN PARK. HAVE TO TRICK VEHICLE SYSTEM TO MAKE IT BELEIVE IT IS IN PARK TO TOTALLY SHUT DOWN VEHICLE
Power steering failure upon starting truck. Wheel did not turn. Dash message said Esc and power steering malfunction . Restart car multiple times with same issue. Wait a few hours and start car - no warnings or power steering issues. Went to Chevrolet dealership and was told no codes had been triggered and to bring back when issue arises again.
Power Train Transmission Torque Converter “Chevy Shake” Multiple symptoms. - Shuttering , “ buffeting” , slipping sensation. Continuous almost like “strong wind gust” or “head wind” - Humming, if you have ever heard a “high pressure” hydraulic equipment. - RPM bounces 300 to 500, but transmission does not “down shift” (while driving) - Vibration, of the truck can be noticed, felt at various speeds, 40mph to 60mph(shutter) almost like it struggling to get up to speed (unless heavy on the gas pedal) 70mph and above to say 80mph, then shaking, vibrations worse when coasting back to 70 mph Vibration will “not stop” until truck speed is drastically slowed or come to a stop. - Steering wheel “shakes” , “vibrates” also can happen at 60mph to 70mph and above to say 80mph, then worse when coasting back to 70 mph - “Clunk” when stopped and shifting into “reverse” (new development symptom) Vehicle is in for inspection .
Transmission will hard shift from 2-3. It jerks the truck and causes power loss when in traffic. The RPM's will go up to 3500-4000 and then the truck barley keeps a speed of 45 mph. The engines sounds like it is going to explode! This has happen several times with 32000 miles on the truck.
Trailer brake controls not working. Safety at risk due to electric trailer brakes not working. Other lights and functions work when trailer plugged in.
The tucks are high so a backup camera is now more important than ever. During the day the image very grainy but useful. At night or in a dark garage it completely useless. I took my truck in to be checked and they agreed it was terrible but nothing could be dome until a recall was issued. I've done research and this seems to be a huge problem with the 2020 Silverado. I reached out to Chevy and the lady I chatted with said I should file this here with you. There are multiple chats and message boards about this issue and Chevy lack of being willing to fix it.
Bought this vehicle 4 months ago first month the tire loosing air went on a trip park in a garage left it there for the week end came out passenger front tire was flat put spare on notice crack on inside of the rim...2 month later took another trio on the way home tire was loosing air change out again Crack on inside of rim driver rear different one then first time
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds there was a loud noise present coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who discovered that the front driver’s side axle was fractured. The front driver’s side axle was replaced but the contact stated that a slight noise was still present coming from the front end while driving. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact also indicated that while his wife was driving, the odor of fuel was present inside the vehicle. Upon inspection, his wife discovered fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the plastic fuel line had cracked causing fuel to leak from the vehicle. The plastic fuel line was replaced, and the failure was fixed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.
I drove approximately 8 miles to lunch and parked the truck. It sat about an hour and when I started the truck to leave I had a message to service esc and power steering reduced. The tuck had no power steering. Returns to work and the truck sat about ten minutes. Then everything started normal and is fine.
At approximately 42k miles my 2020 Silverado started flashing a very frequent “service safety restraint system” warning light and beeping (either constant or every 10-15 minutes). Immediately contacted a Chevrolet dealer to have it corrected. They have assured me that the repair is simple, will cost me $602 to replace a few steering wheel component parts to get the clock spring working correctly. They assured me they knew the issue would be resolved since their tech has “seen this a lot” but it took them all day to diagnose, and said since I was just past my bumper to bumper warranty it was not covered. That I could pay the diagnosis fee and take it home if I wanted. Since when is a faulty safety restraint system “fine” to drive? Of course I immediately authorized the out of pocket repair to be safe, but I am surprised and alarmed that Chevy would allow them to return an unsafe vehicle to a customer and tell them it’s “fine” rather than put them in a loaner vehicle or report the issue, since there are thousands of similar complaints for these Silverado’s. Truck is currently in the shop, on my dime and I am terrified that this will end up costing me more than $602.
While driving hauling trailer, tailgate randomly flew down, could have been very very bad had someone been behind me when wheel barrow flew out of the back. It severely damaged my tailgate when it flew down, and then got wedged between top of trailor.
2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 8L90 transmission failure at 40,000 miles and I am now at 90,000 miles with the same issue. I have been working on this truck tirelessly tried to fix the transmission. I’ve had 3 transmission fluid replacements and a full torque converter replacement. General Motors knowingly sold these models to consumers when the transmission was faulty and underperforming. It shudders, shakes, and slips while driving. It’s almost caused me to get into a few accidents. I just want compensation and to be a part of the class action lawsuit they are being filed upon. My phone number is [XXX] And my email is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact's son owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while her son was driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the "Service Brakes System" message displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred and that the vehicle was unable to accelerate over 40 MPH. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,500.
Lifter failure caused several different warning lights and misfiring and chugging. Vehicle never died, but might have if it had continued to be driven.
Brake system failure. While driving vehicle, brake system and traction control stopped working. Vehicle was then limited to 62 MPH. Almost no braking available and pedal needed to be pushed very hardly to the floor.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that moisture was leaking into the vehicle from the rear passenger’s side window. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where the window was resealed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was discovered that there was crack in the rear passenger side window frame. The window frame was replaced but the failure persisted. The contact stated that mold might form inside the vehicle due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Truck was purchased new in 2020. The transmission has worked fine until recently. Since this summer there is a distinctive whine coming from the engine department. Very hard to isolate. The transmission this winter has been terrible. The cold functionality of the transmission now is even worse than when new. It hesitates to shift to second and to third gear when cold. The transmission now also exhibits a failure to up shift when the vehicle is moving. It will hang with elevated rpms 2300 to 3000 for a second or two before upshifting and lowering the rpms. The truck now also has random clunking when shifting into reverse from dead stop. The transmission does not shutter but there is definite loss of power and that can be contributed to a bad torque convertor. If it is not locking up correctly when in gear power will suffer to the convertor failing to engage the transmission correctly. The shifting issue have persisted and gotten worse. Dealer said he put a computer on it and said there were no codes. The dealer mechanic did not even try to road test the truck That is just ridiculous. I will be taking the truck in again
While driving the engine jumps/jerks then goes back to normal, it continuously happens every 3-5 minutes while driving. A friend had his exact issue with exact make model year vehicle and it ended up being the gas sensor. Please look into this issue for this vehicle. Our local dealer will not fix it because the sensor doesn’t show the issue but that is the issue. The dealer knows it does it but won’t fix it.
I hit a concrete light pole at 10-15mph on the right side and zero air bags went off, I hit my face and arm and chest on steering wheel, broken my nose, messed left arm up and brushed left lung it’s got fluid on it and ribs are bruised it’s hard to breathe and move after a week happened on 2022 thanksgiving around 1030 pm cops showed up truck was undrivable, had X-rays and Ct scans and have a heart scan this week,
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and attempting to drive out of a parking spot, the power steering failed to function as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the wiring harness for the power steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,624.
